I would write those comments without hurting the parents. Those comments are too direct. The question is why did they bring their children to school. it is for these characters to be corrected. If there is need for those comments to be written. It should have been mildly. There was this student of mine who was always coming to school dirty. My colleagues called my attention to it and I told them I had noticed it. I was told to inform the parents. Before informing the parents, I called the girl, talked to her. She refused to listen . I had no choice than to send a message to her parents. I wrote ' my daughter ........ has not been appearing near to school lately'. The father called and started apologising. 2 Likes |

officialmario: I don't blame the teacher but the school for not vetting the comments before it got to parents. There's this private school in my town that vet CAs and examination results of students before giving it to them. The vetting process helps to correct the errors made by teachers while marking the scripts. The school also ensures that Comments on students' report cards are vetted and any correction is also effected before giving it to the students. |

Amotolongbo: You obviously know little or nothing about education. The teacher has the duty of assessing both the cognitive and affective domain of the students. It is his duty to pass appropriate and correct judgment on both. However, in reality, the form teachers are usually asked to make comments on the affective domain of a child while the principal comments on the cognitive domain based on the academic records of the child. 1 Like |

Very good he was relieved of his job, firstly it's about order if he could refuse his boss order what do you think he is teaching other staffs also to the main issue he lacks everything we saw one recently a teacher wrote "he does not behave like human being" what do you think the parents will do , tell the teacher he is doing well. School employ just anyone just to fill classes their are better way of expressing your displeasures to writing rubbish in which that report card will forever be carried all her life with that stupid comments. He deserve to be over sacked without benefits. |

I am an educationist. To be honest, the comments may be factual but unprofessionally made. When building people, you are advised not to be brutally frank. What it, more often than not, does is to diminish their self-esteem. Now, he was making qualitative analysis which requires him to assess a situation subjectively. So, he should rather see the cup as half full first then proceed to encourage the filling to the brim. For instance: honesty can't be evaluated with numbers; for a child who is fond of being dishonest, your comment should read, 'He is being counseled to be more truthful..." Lets apply it to one of the comments: 'He is not active in class.' First of all, this comment is ridiculous. Is the child a statue? Of course, NO. Why don't you rather comment that she should get involved more in class group tasks by ...' Another comment is the 'she is rude and not respectful.' That looks more like a label. 'be more respectful' would suffice. On the other and you can add specifics such as 'he ones refused to stop humming during a class, however, we are hopeful that he'll begin to respect others' spaces... Another thing is that parents want to feel that their children are being raised to be better. They are not playing the ostrich. They are not unaware that their children are not saints. Don't leave them feeling hopeless with a tactless comment. Don't forget that most of this issues ought to have been sorted out before now. Why are all of them on the report card? officialmario: |

officialmario: If only we have functional govt the activities of some of these private schools need to be checkmate. Especially Abuja private schools, some dehumanising treatment the melted on staffs just because they know the high level of unemployment and people must eat. From overworking staffs, to ill comments, staffs are beating and thrown outside the compound with your belongings if dear to correct, suggest, or make demand. Some tell them everyday how worthless they are and that they can be replace within 2hrs. The list is endless. It will never be well with our leaders, they have reduce graduate to beggars looking for peanuts just to survive and business owners are capitalising on this big time 2 Likes |

Kingcalls:If your parent, your mother, had been useful as good parent, she would have known the kinda behavior you exhibited before the end of the term by visiting the school and making enquiry from your class teacher. She would have corrected it before the end of the term and such comment wouldn’t appear on your report card. |

He deserves to be sacked. As a teacher you should at all times give constructive criticisms. A teacher's personal opinion for any pupil/student is irrelevant and most often is a reflection of one's true self. For instance, from the comments, I can tell that the teacher is truly disturbed and has no business teaching anyone. |

officialmario:The teacher isn't exactly right. If a student had been a truant or keep gang, parents should be notified and called, not plastering the report card with such remarks. It shows a failure on the part of the teacher himself. |

this is one of many problems of private school, they run it as a business thus "customers" are always right meanwhile they are breeding monsters but making the parents think all is well with their kids...spare the rod indeed and spoil the child...if my child is ill-mannered or show disrespect let me know on the report card so i can do the needful and be on the look out.....dont worry bruv you did the right thing another door will open no be only that school de exist na..... 2 Likes |

Both your friend and the proprietor are wrong. Your friend's remarks are negative and condemning. I presume that your friend is a teacher by circumstance and not trained. Every one has a positive trait. Your friend should have first, emphasized on the positive aspect before following it up with the challenge. He must learn to be a good critique. He will not be seen as a good teacher for not stating a child's positive side. He would have written a constructive comments like; "Peter is a reserved and attentive student however, he needs to be more active in class." "Martha is a social bee nevertheless, she needs to channel the energy on her school work or "Martha is a sociable student who needs to put in 100% attention to her studies for a good result next term" "Paul is an energetic student who finds it challenging to stay in class. He would perform well next term if he intensifies his interest in his academics" "Aisha is a neat and expressive child who needs to be more respectful. She needs to understand that good attitude and behaviour are prerequisites to learning". The proprietor needs to train teachers on writing good report and not to sack |

Who writes this kind of comments about children and send it to parents? Is it not his job to fix these rough edges of the student rather than writing and sending these kind of 'remarks?? |
