Some African ancestry tracing companies claim to have information for over 160 ethnic groups in their databases. How many groups in Africa are higher priority than Ishan?

not only esan but yoruba and igbo together laughable- the person would already know that they have this mixture so it would be of no surprise to dem

The origianl pessin wey post am want to show that we take daddys side instead of mommy.

which still doesntmake sense in her reasoning she said

1) this type of dna I think is limited to females
2) if this DNA is from mother side only- why would there be any conflict in saying whether he is yoruba or not, considering everyone takes after daddys side, n this test is form mommy DNA.

Tpia is right. This sounds like a Nollywood script.

[size=15pt]So  my friend, yoruba 2 went back to his parents with the results, and in the midst discovered that  his mother  and father are not his biological, so after growing up a yoruba boy and now  at 25 years of age finding out that you belong to another tribe, should that change anything?

His mother is obviously Yoruba, so how can his mothers side be of Igbo descent while they all claim Yoruba? Obviously his parents would have to reveal to him the truth, if this story is true anyway,

Why are you getting angry? Is there no tale of an aboriginal people being absorbed or pushed out in Yorubaland? By the way, it's you that has just brought up claims of Igbo being the original owners, not anyone else.

you're the one getting angry, not me.

kindly post any links to stories of aboriginal non-yoruba people being pushed out of anywhere in yorubaland.

the claims of igbos being the aboriginal owners of the southwest has been brought up here on nl a few times, and those who base their knowledge on nl postings might be erroneously taking it as fact.

nigeria alone has over 300 ethnic groups how how would africa be limited to 160.

How many of those 300 ethnic groups have a significant population, plus how many of those ethnic groups have a chance of being involved in the slave trade? Are talking about groups like Bassa which cover one village? (By the way one village would have been sold of in the slave trade, talk less of what these people's population was back then).

Ishan is among the top 20 or even 10 ethnic groups in Nigeria so it's obvious they will be tested.

Do you know how many women in Nigeria rely on adoption or baby factories for children?

bassa claims to have their people all over the west african coast- from nigeria to gambia.

their own is another story entirely. undecided

i think you mean a lot of ishans are on the www and in IT so they were added to the "database".  Think ekpoma.

and besides, a lot of the babies end up outside nigeria.

Obviously some of the posters here have VERY LOW IQ. They couldn't make that judgement without someone shoving it in their faces.

@OP,

The test seems plausible. Foreigners are not as allergic to tribal identification as Nigerians. Some of the foreign companies have information about Nigeria that even the Nigerian government doesn't have.
Again they are focusing on specific areas in their research, mainly areas where slave trade took place.

how does he belong to another tribe and live as another, when the type of DNA would only revealed mother side which is why it doesnt make sense.

well, i've pointed out before that the nigerian govt needs to conduct a study to find out if the fertility rate in nigeria is dropping, and why.

ie why exactly are babies being bought and sold in the country.

however, many of the kids are indeed shipped outside to various destinations. undecided

i'm waiting for the full story you're referring to.

What doesnt make sense is

1. How Yorubas have Igbo ansc.

2. How Igbo does not have Yoruba ansc.

Maybe it's just those ppl. Esp since Yoruba men are historically  known for banging anything in skirt.

Why is it that Yorubas from the old ondo state are usually fair in complection as opposed to other Yorubas? And may of them have the disposition of Igbos.

Igbo men hit the spot each time - Yoruba men fire blanks. (Low spermatoza potency)

I had earlier explained to people on this site that the migration root of the ancients was from the south to the north, then east before west, just like the shape of our continent.

This is common knowledge to those that studied anthropology. Hence, it is not a big deal Igbo have efik dna and Edo's have Igbo dna more than the yoruba nad then the yoruba have lesser percentage of Igbo DNA. ETC.
Re: Ancestral DNA Results of Nigerians. by Afam4eva(m): 7:26pm On Jul 26, 2011
Do u need me to spoon feed you b4 you know who the other Yorubas are?
Re: Ancestral DNA Results of Nigerians. by tpia5: 7:26pm On Jul 26, 2011
yorubas have a saying

eni bi ni lan jo or something like that.

the fact of the matter remains you will look like your father and mother, and as such there's very few "surprises" when it comes to genealogy.

and the yoruba look is rarely confused with other ones, ie people know what they're supposed to look like.

in some instances, there might be similarities between hausa and yoruba, but that's not surprising.

also, in a few cases where a child looks like neither the father or mother, it will look like a relative- possibly a grandparent.

so, to claim a yoruba is actually igbo, is laughable at best because all that shows is the person has KNOWN igbo lineage to begin with, and most likely from the mother's side.

oyos have the highest percentage of fair people in the southwest, imo.

actually, the level of fairness might be evenly distributed, not that people consider it important.

I wouldnt say so because based on Afem4eva's theory, Igbos have more darkskin than light skin ppl and those dark skins are from the pleasure of Yoruba men.

EzeUche thatz always yelling about light skin Igbos is even darker than me, dark as tar. And the dude looks Yoruba. sth is going on in his genes.
Re: Ancestral DNA Results of Nigerians. by tpia5: 7:34pm On Jul 26, 2011
most yoruba males, no matter how loose, are very particular about their children's looks.

 the relatives too.

so any child he has, who doesnt look like him, would have been carefully investigated as soon as the child's features are formed.

because that's a sign the mother played away matches.

yoruba no dey joke with that kind of thing.

how do you think yorubas have maintained their features for so long even when most of yall are going on about blah blah blah .

too dark, too this , too that etc etc.
Re: Ancestral DNA Results of Nigerians. by ezeagu(m): 7:34pm On Jul 26, 2011
People are missing the fact that the only Yoruba person by genes there only had 20% Igbo. While the Igbo had high amounts of Efik.
