dru23:Owners manual did not say you can't install double cell. Do you even know double cell means? There are instances where you can retrofit even better items in your car instead of what the car came with. E.g. 1. On the mdx, if you want to tow in hot weather, you are better off installed a separate transmission cooler instead of relying on the radiator to cool the trans fluid for you. 2. There are instances where obeying the 5w20 and MID oil change recommendations have backfired and owners have come to realise that 5w30 and shorter drain intervals was the key to staving off the oil burn issue on the 2010 to 2012 mdx. Going against manufacturer recommendation of 5w20 and MID 7500 mile OCI saved them. 3. Low profile tyres fitted on new cars look nice and of course handle well but if you traverse rough terrain and don't track your car, you are better off with higher profile tyres with longer side walls. Your car won't flip over while doing legal speed limits. Speedo error is negligible (don't bring that up by the way). 4. A radiator (whether single or double cell) is a heat transfer device. It is as simple as that. It is not going to increase the workload of the water pump. It is not going to affect the volume water that the engine block can hold. Rather, a double cell radiator may ultimately even be a life saver by accommodating more water (handy if you have an overheating car), provide more volume to absorb the heat from the engine, reduce the run time of your fans since it will be more efficient that a single cell, pits less strain on your cooling fans (less on time), produces less strain on your electrical system (battery, alternator relays etc). Come to think of it, it may even be better than the single cell. Manufacturers cut a lot of cost and if a single cell can do it why would they install a more expensive double cell? They are all looking at the bottom line remember? For radiators, new over old. |
chrisja:Bros, listen and listen carefully. Double cell oo, single cell oo, e no matter. Double cell improves cooling die to increased surface area. It's better. It does no harm to your car as long as your thermostat is present and your fans are working in the factory state. Radiators have plastic parts which go brittle with age and repeated heating and cooling cycles. It is not advisable to buy used radiators unless you are in a bind either due to location, availability or financially. If you can afford a new radiator (wether single or double cell is irrelevant), can find it and timeframe for delivery allows, then by all means get a new radiator. It's even a maintenance item on some cars (Acura MDX at least). |

Johnwicked:It's not associated to old cars. It's caused by worn belts, lazy belt tensioners or faulty accessory systems such as ac, alternator etc. Your mechanic should be able to figure out the issue easily. |
