NwaAmaikpe:

While I may not agree with some of your submissions, I'm proud of you pretty AdesuwaObasuyi. You are the real feminist....you've redefined the narrative for Edo females and shown us that a woman's true beauty is not in her facial features but in the strength of her brain.
I hope other ladies here can realize that being a feminist is standing up to societal ills and global challenges like Environmental sustainability and social injustice in a world that thinks it is the job of a man.
Not to see themselves as bosses because they can smoke shisha and party just as hard as slaykings. Then demand equality.
Nice one. Not going to be tempted to derail Adesuwa’s thread by educating you on the crap you just spewed... > |

I cannot believe in a supreme being who weighs in on the number of priests ordained or the number of churches or mosques without any significant result to show for it in the country. I don't believe a billion Indians are going to hell. I don't believe we get cancers to learn life lessons and that young people die early cos God needs angels. I think it's bullshiit and on some level that we all know that. I understand religion makes it easier to deal with the random things in life we can't yet explain, or the random shitty things that happen to us. And I wish I could get on that ride, I'm sure I would be happier. But I can't, so can't other rational people. Feelings aren't enough, I need it to be real. Preach! MaNyEsq: Why do Nigerians always have to blame everything but the real culprit. He jumped off the boat into the water according to the article. The question that was not addressed was whether he could swim? If he jumped into the water knowing fully well that he could not swim but only to show off to his friends, then that has nothing to do with his village people. People all over the globe including Nigerians who do not know how to swim drown every day. So, to blame something else other than his inability to swim thus resulting in him drowning is very preposterous. Nigerians have gotten accustomed to believing and blaming "juju" for everything that ails the country hence allowing people to not take responsibility for their bad choices and mistakes. This type of belief and thinking takes away the "can do" spirit that is required for nation building. The first couple of comments were clearly facetious... > |

But as a black man, I don't jump in to swim, i don't even go near the sea. I just sit on the edges drinking Beer and smoking weed, while my 6 years old mixed raced old son and his sister who is 9 years old and their mothers Swims like fishes in the sea.
I also ussually sees other black people dressed up in their Best clothings and shiny trainers just standing or sitting on the sea Esplanade benches watching white people in Bikinis and boxers swimming like fishes.
Again, black people can not swim!! leave swimming for whiteys. Very unfortunate for this guy, I hope he recovers. Huh?! Isn’t that a tad bit too late? > |

MaNyEsq: Dumb ass here are the definition of the two words. You ado not have enough brain cells to engage in intellectual discourse.
tox·ic /ˈtäksik/ Learn to pronounce adjective adjective: toxic
1. poisonous. "the dumping of toxic waste" synonyms: poisonous, venomous, virulent, noxious, dangerous, destructive, harmful, unsafe, malignant, injurious, pestilential, pernicious, environmentally unfriendly;
nox·ious /ˈnäkSHəs/ Learn to pronounce adjective adjective: noxious
harmful, poisonous, or very unpleasant. "they were overcome by the noxious fumes" synonyms: poisonous, toxic, deadly, virulent; Glad that I motivated you enough to discover a dictionary... However, the literary meaning of words is not the same as science, and thus while something can be both noxious and toxic, not everything that is colloquially 'noxious' to the neighborhood nostrils is scientifically toxic. It's an understandably difficult concept for someone likely groomed in the "repeat-after-me" method of what passes for education in much of Nigeria, but at least you are headed in the right direction. > |

MaNyEsq: I guess we are getting into the silly season here. Yea, we need a scientist to tell the residents of the area or the cops who arrested them that the fumes that the factory was emitting is toxic or not just like you need a scientist to tell you that the fumes spewing out from cooking with coal is toxic. And besides, if your initial comment was based on the same article that I and every other person read including you, then your comment was headed in the wrong direction and totally out of place. Yes, you do... Noxious and toxic are not synonymous. SMDH > |

MaNyEsq: There should have been no reason for your qualifier "if properly done" when the article clearly stated that their operation was emitting toxic fumes. Any reasonable person who read the article would understand that their operation was not following the best practices. So, I just did not get your point unless you read the article with lack of comprehension. I decline to engage in childish personal insults/attacks... MaNyEsq: I know the difference between "e-waste" and "recycling e-waste" but just because "waste" has a prefix "Recycling" before it does not necessarily mean it's safer or good for the environment. I can understand you lauding their efforts in trying to recycle e-waste but the issue of recycling in Nigeria is fraught with problems. There are no safety laws implemented for e waste recycling. Lots of environmental issues are created in the process of disassembling of the electronic waste. There's huge costs involved and is highly dangerous because they consists of the heavy metals, like Cathode Ray Tubes, Mercury, Lead, Chromium, Brominated Flame Retardants, Arsenic, Selenium, Cobalt etc.
With increase in substandard recycling factories means more pollution. Several gases are emitted during the recycling process like Methane, which is known to contribute to global warming and the ozone diminution if not managed properly and allowed to leak in the open. And judging by their operation, they had no intention of spending the money to make the process safe. Their main goal is to make as much money as they possibly can and could care less whther or not their process is safe for the enviroment. Just because it's called recycling does not always mean the process is safer than not recycling. So, all I am saying is that, sometimes you're better off leaving well enough alone! You seemed to have completely missed my qualifier if properly done...Of course almost anything not properly done can cause a lot more harm than good. Since neither you nor I are privy to the operations of this particular plant... You are NOW arguing on the ASSUMPTION (which you previously did not make) that it’s improperly run. > |

Jig5aw: If you understand the monies been made by Dangote cement and BUA in Edo state, you won’t commend this project. They pay taxes and employ local people as well... CSR is great, but you should instead be asking your govt what they’re doing with tax revenue. Btw, these companies are not picking up “monies” by the roadside (if your govt built any)... They are mining limestone and converting it into products and subsequently it becomes “monies”. Many Africans/Nigerians lose this critical nexus between investment and wealth... Same mineral deposits wasted away for years while Bendel Cement Co. made contractors/politicians wealthy. > |

Donchukz: If a every body around that environment are subjected to medical test, what the laboratory technicians will discover from each and every one them will send shivers down your spine.
Every E-waist is a potential health hazard, electronic materials are a carrier of mercury, when they are been handled in an unprofessional ways, like what the Chinese expatriates just did and their likes, and in the process water washes them down our water bodies. The effect of it arises when we use the water domestically, for our food, when we drink it,considering that most people don't have potable drinking water, and the fishes are not left out,we consume them their by causing more harm to our body tissues,if a pregnant woman consumed mercury infested fishes,it affects the unborn child, leading to poor mental development,it can cause cancer etc.
Now,your question is,why are the workers not affected, have u thought of the gradual deposition of all this substances and its long term effects. Just google about mercury to educate yourself more. Thank u and do have a wonder day First, you do NOT know (and btw neither do I) how the Chinese handle or treat the e-waste in this plant, so you are in no position to make the sorts of sweeping generalizations you are indulging in. Nonetheless, you cannot (at least not RATIONALLY) be arguing that what these dudes are doing is worse than the what the vast majority of Nigerians currently do with their e-waste, which is just discarding in the nearest bin, gutter, canal or landfill, and/or burning same. That’s what should be bothering everyone, not the xenophobic concept of foreign boogeymen. > |
