By wearing skirts, she gives other participants in the scheme the impression that the laws can be bent to suit her idiosyncrasies.

What is the purpose of a uniform? To create equality. When members of a designated unit are dressed alike, that unhealthy competitive feeling about looks and image, are eliminated.

So why create a breach by letting participants of the scheme tamper with the uniform? I repeat, that lady would make a very bad employee, as she cannot follow simple rules and she is trying to tamper with the rule and bend it to suit her selfish desires.

Strawman’s Argument...
Wearing skirts do not render pants “unreasonable” nor vice versa.

Wearing a uniform does not mean that everyone must dress identically, but rather uniformly, as can be seen in the picture of military uniforms that I previously posted (in other words, it merely requires uniformity in respect of all persons wearing the same attire). Accordingly, the NYSC can regulate the sort of skirts that a corper should - just as corpers are not permitted to wear just any kind of pants. Nigerians have to learn to think outside-the-box in an increasingly diverse society. The era of being mindlessly Zombies should have been confined to our past.

Successful employers recognize PEOPLE as their greatest assets...

And make reasonable accommodations for PEOPLE (flexible hours, paternity leave, home offices, casual wear, insurance benefits for gay couples etc.). Unfortunately, that’s why many Nigerian business are stunted and Nigeria remains perpetually a Third World S-hole!

Most rational people would not think that making reasonable accommodations for reasonable religious (or such other cultural) observances are frivolous. Exactly how does her wearing skirts (when she is not engaged in physical training or similar activity) INFRINGE on others? SMH

Or if an Ogun worshipper decided to attach cowries and raffia palm to her NYSC uniform, you would ask that the uniform should be changed to a raffia mat to accommodate diversity?

Why do people like to complicate things in this country?

Didn't the lady know exactly what the NYSC uniform looked like, before she enrolled into the scheme?

Why didn't she raise an objection to wearing trousers before enrolling into the NYSC scheme??

Rules as an end of itself or rules just for the sale of rules is just a DUMB concept...
Rules are made for people (not vice versa) and if the rules can REASONABLY accommodate diversity, why not?

Oga, skirts are not part of the NYSC approved uniform. So stop comparing apples with oranges. The NYSC rules are clear, on what is acceptable to be worn as the uniform.

The rules are NOT cast in stone or otherwise inviolable...
REASONABLE changes can be made to accommodate reasonable diversity.

People act as if these “rules” were not drawn up by some civil servants...
Even the NYSC itself was a military creation that was IMPOSED onto the Constitution.

Nothing in either the NYSC Decree 1993 (now an Act under Section 315 of the Constitution) or in the Constitution itself (Section 315(5) dealing specifically with the NYSC) compulsorily MANDATES the wearing of pants. These bylaws, rules and regulations are made from time to time to accommodate the realities of PEOPLE and there’s absolutely NOTHING that prevents making REASONABLE (a term that I have used repeatedly) changes to accommodate the REASONABLE religious (or other cultural) observances of PEOPLE - whether they worship “religions” IMPORTED into Nigeria or the so-called “dieties” that are INDIGENOUS to Nigeria. SMH

Maintenance Culture is the problem challenging infrastructures in NIGERIA.

We have the TBS Terminal and several parks/structures that remain well-maintained...
Also, this is a PPP arrangement and doubtful the private capital providers will allow its deterioration.

Nothing wrong with the BRT buses (except ordinary wear and tear)...
In fact, Primero (the private operator) has raised a corporate bond for more/newer buses.

Many people erroneously conflate the red LAGBUS buses (operated by NURTW) with the BRT buses...
The difference in maintenance illustrates the advantages of a well-run PRIVATE sector operated service.
