Oga this post is at best laughable and shows you are just arguing for the sake of it!

This is straightforward....if indeed you have worked in an oil company, you will know that wearing an overall kit is a must for safety reasons and for comfort esp during field work.... and no sir,she can't be excused from not wearing the overall kit because its non negotiable and a prerequisite for ALL staffs who work at the oil company to wear such kits!

If such person says wearing trousers like the overall kit is a 'taboo' to her,she can simply resign and look for another job that doesn't require her to put on an overall trouser which is the same as a lady applying for an nysc exemption if she feels wearing a khaki trouser goes against her beliefs!

She cannot decide to design and wear a 'skirt overall' and go do her field work at an oil company... she will simply get queried or even fired for disobeying a rule that she is already aware of!
Its that simple!

Like I have said which you have explicitly failed to comprehend, NYSC service is NOT BY FORCE!
Alternatively, such lady can apply for an NYSC EXEMPTION!
Sadly, some people read but don’t understand...
The result of Nigeria’s “repeat-after-me” school system. cry

9jaRealist:
Again, people read but don’t seem to comprehend...

For the umpteenth time, the rational question should be what is the purpose of the ‘requirement’ and could the purpose be satisfied in other ways? Accordingly, if people cannot do “oil field work” without overalls (presumably for safety reasons) then the response would be ‘no’ that it cannot be satisfied otherwise. However, (1) when oil company workers leave their “field work” they are NOT required to wear same overall in the offices, and (2) this woman was most definitely NOT engaged in anything remotely “oil field work” (I already noted that it makes sense to wear appropriate attire for training and drills).

Sadly, this mentality to mindlessly “obey the last order” and the attendant elevation of rules for its sake instead of for its purpose betrays the dearth of initiative and lack of disruptive innovation so pervasive in Nigeria.

the nysc people from that video, are not acting like professionals, but rather, they are mocking her. so in the end, i cannot say if they are actually concerned with doing their job and enforcing the rules, or if they are just being bigots. that lady has been wearing that skirt all through her service year. are they just seeing it for the first time?

a lot of people who complain about religious intolerance are ultimately hypocrites. a lot of Christians who talk about freedom of religion regularly celebrate each other for burning up and destroying shrines of traditional worshipers. they do not remember Nigeria is a secular country at that time.

a lot of racism is always wrapped up in 'enforcement of the rules'

Nevertheless, the reason that we are here discussing the plight of this old lady and how she might be helped is precisely because Yekini played for Nigeria, and as others already pointed out there have been several other fundraisers and interventions for her. Perhaps it time to look at if there are family members/relatives taking advantage of her, because (as I often say) Nigerians are the worst thing to happen to Nigeria!

overpopulation man. Lagos is the smallest state in Nigeria but with almost highest population, prolly little behind Kano et all. So it will continue to be like that. FG is trying to push people to Ibadan with that rail, port and now the airport is fully functioning, the population will reduce a little. Ibadan can contain all of them buh them no wan go because everyone wan famz "i be Lagosian."
dejibanjo:
That's not how to move people to other states. People mostly migrate due to economic oppportunity, so unless there are jobs in ibadan, folks will rather remain in Lagos to hustle.
It will probably get worse when the refinery in Lekki becomes funtional. FG and other states really need to wake up, cos apart from 3-4 states that are economically relevant, the rest are just civil service states.
Folks do not need to go all the way to Ibadan...
Ogun State is already the “New Jersey” to Lagos’ “New York”.

The reality is that many parts of Ogun State have effectively become ‘suburbs’ of a huge sprawling Lagos Megapolis, and many folks who work or otherwise do business in Lagos but seek cheaper housing or land have elected to reside in Ogun State. This has been particularly given a boost with the network of 21 border roads and bridges completed in the border areas of Alimosho under Amobode, as well as the ongoing project to add a BRT lane to the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway all the way to Ota Toll Gate. Accordingly, many Lagos-based manufacturers have relocated or built new factories in Ogun State (Agbara and Ota especially) while maintaining their corporate offices in Lagos.

PS: In respect of the new Dangote Refinery, one would think that the new multi-tiered Alaro City being developed in Ibeju under a PPP arrangement with Rendeavor, which is reputedly Africa’s biggest new city developer, will absorb most of the new population of the LFTZ.

Oga the uniform she converted to skirt is used for 'physical training' not for formal presentation like the picture you presented!
Secondly, there are rules governing the wearing of trousers,if the person does not like such,he or she can forfeit the service and apply for an exemption!
Once you permit one person to wear skirt, the next person will wear shorts!
There is a reason why it was called 'UNIFORM'
Uniformity is NOT synonymous with identical...
As already pointed, female Nigerian army officers may wear skirts (see below).

Even in football, players may wear short or long sleeves on the same team...
Players may even wear different colors of shoes, and of course goalkeepers wears a different color.

Rules are made for people (and by people), and not vice versa...
Thus key question is to what end the rules were made for, and is there only ONE way to achieve it.

Exactly what’s wrong with wearing shorts (so long as they’re regulated like the pants)?

Military forces in many parts of the world sometimes wear shorts...
So what exactly is amiss with uni graduates wearing shorts in HOT HUMID Nigeria?

I realize that regrettably many Nigerians were reared on a diet of “repeat-after-me” in the cram-and-regurgitate methodology of what passes for ‘education’ in much of Nigeria, but (for seemingly the zillionth time) rules should NEVER be an end of itself. Sadly, that tendency to blindly and mindlessly follow rules has apparently manifested itself in the attendant incapacity (or perhaps inability, but I desperately hope not) to imbibe the sorts of disruptive culture that fosters innovation.

I asked you earlier, is there anything she can do wearing g a skirt that she cannot do while wearing trousers? You have not provided a coherent answer.

Why you are now advocating for an item of dressing to be changed is rather frivolous. It is not about being a zombie. It is about the purpose for which the uniform was designed. sad

If she had to do man-o'-war exercises during orientation camp, by climbing the ropes and jumping under the poles, would she be able to do so wearing a skirt? Not likely. Those under the rope bridge would see her undies, in all its colourful glory. cheesy

Asking for rules to be bent so that you can wear a skirt, instead of the approved khaki pair of trousers, is nothing short of frivolous. undecided

If there were health grounds to justify such a request, then it might make a bit of sense. But trying to bend the rules out of a misguided sense of religiosity, is the height of indiscipline. There is nothing rational about her act of indiscipline. angry It doesn't matter if she is born again, born before or born afterwards.

Nobody gave her approval to wear a skirt. There is even no indication that she had sought for permission beforehand from the authorities to do so. She chose to discard the approved uniform, and invent her own outfit. undecided What is that called, if not breaking the rules?

Let her live with the consequences of her actions.
I see now you are using “bent” to give it a negative connotation... grin grin grin

Meanwhile, you are focusing SOLELY on this one case rather than the concept that I am actually discussing (which admittedly would encompass this one particular case but stretches well beyond it), but there used to be rules and regulations governing where people were allowed to serve (or more precisely not allowed to serve) until those were changed to ACCOMMODATE reasonable matrimonial and other familial realities. For the umpteenth time, these rules and regulations are not bequeathed by Omnipotence but are made by civil/public servants and thus could be reasonably changed to accommodate reasonable realities.

What you have CONSISTENTLY failed to explain is exactly how changing the rules to accommodate skirts (which would be regulated in exactly the same manners as pants currently are) would INFRINGE on other corpers - except to keep repeating that it would be “different” as if difference is inherently a bad thing.
