Spy360:
Should any culture or its aspects be termed or qualified as good or bad?

We know that cultures are the ways of live of peoples. These ways were adopted based on their idea of what's good and necessary for their continued survival and even existence.

Culture is dynamic and transient. So that, those aspects as time progresses that do not ensure the ultimate goal of survival are ditched or adjusted.

So for example, animal sacrifices were required to appease gods for good agricultural productivity. Then with time, when manure was discovered, there was no longer the need for such sacrifices. So we cannot conclude that animal sacrifice was bad culture, because as at that time in reference it was good practice.

It is similar to the use of greenhouse fuels today, some day it will phase off but the future generations should not then consider our generation as barbaric.

Cc A001, Donjazet2, Bombblacks
Good and bad are relative, and no culture is absolutely good or absolutely bad. Cultures evolve over time just as humans evolve.

In all cultures of the world, there are good and bad aspects.

Osimhen na correct player. Highly talented and passionate. He always gives his all in our matches.

He hit the woodwork today and could have scored at least a goal today if Chukwueze had a brain.

Interesting paper by the top astronomer, Prof Avi Loeb: https://www.space.com/alien-mothership-lurking-in-solar-system-pentagon-official-suggests

Otem claims the ETs that gave him those histories have eyes in the sky which are surveillance technologies, ships, or UFOs they built to mimic the shape of stars so they don't scare humans.

Watching out for the discoveries that'll be made in space science on UFOs and ETs in the years ahead.

Jorginho na Portuguese name. You know Guinea Bissau was colonized by Portugal. So, you'll find many Portuguese names in that West African country, and many of their players that played against us today even ply their trade in the Portuguese league (the lower division).

The Africans shouting about homosexuality all about, especially the Christians may even be shocked to learn about the history of homosexuality in Christianity and in Africa.

According to Otem, Yeshua, who was the black African the Romans invented the fictional Jesus Christ from, was the first gay person on this planet.

Some early Christians even copied this act from Yeshua and passed down the practice to some so-called reverend fathers in the religion.

Many hidden secrets in religion, many hidden histories in the Vatican City.

Anyway, homosexuality is natural like those of us that are straight.

Homosexuality, bisexuality, heterosexuality, etc. are all natural sexual practices that animals engage in, whether higher animals like humans, or lower animals like bats.

Na me go dey educate you about the good sides of your Ibo culture or it's the good sides of the Yoruba culture you want to know.

So, I should start showing you the good sides of over 1.4 billion people in a region.

No need. All Africans are backward, savage, and barbaric.

"African history is useless and has no value. I don't rate African cultures, they're barbaric and savage."

That's what he said on this thread. Now, he don change my mouth.

Here we go again, around in circles!

It's good you've actually taken my point about Africa not being a monolith, I corrected you after you kept talking about "African culture". Good to know you've learnt something from me, the ignorant one.
Mention where I grouped all cultures in Africa as African culture. I clearly said African cultures in all my posts on this subject.

I can see you're hallucinating.
Donjazet2:
Now could you answer the question about positive African culture you keep talking about. Be it Yoruba or Igbo. What are tr aspects of our culture you find worthy of emulation?
Ask your people at home that "what are the good aspects of the Ibo culture (an African culture) worthy of emulation?"

No dey ask me silly questions on Nairaland. I no get time

I really wish that rather than repeating this one million times, you actually get to correcting why you think those words are wrong.

Maybe I said something someway, you took it another way or maybe indeed I'm largely ignorant about African culture and think it's all barbaric, savage and it all belongs in the dark ages, how about you get to educating me on why you think that view is wrong, and not just condemning and condemning and condemning and condemning till eternity?

How about you set to making valid points that expose how my own points are wrong?

Let me guess, you're first sentence is about to be , "I don't have your time". cheesy
To know about African cultures, start from your immediate environment: the Ibo culture. That's an African culture.

What you want to learn on Nairaland is better learnt from your people at home.

When I was a Muslim years ago, I used to consider African cultures as evil and barbaric as taught by the book of lies from Arabia.

But when I got older and read many books of history, I broadened my scope, left religion, and realized I was wrong about our cultures.

Then, I moved closer to the pagans in my vicinity and Osun to learn the Yoruba culture from them. I still do so till now.

Donjazet2:
Notice how you're yet to answer this question.

Maybe to make it easier, rather than hammering on about my "ibo brothers", how about you use your own Yoruba culture as a reference point and tell me the positive aspects of African culture that we should imbue and imbibe within ourselves.
There's nothing like African culture. All these frivolous discussions. SMH

Yoruba culture, Ibo culture, Ebira culture, Ijaw culture, Hausa culture, and thousands of other cultures in different parts of Africa are what's called African cultures.

Each of those cultures has their good and bad sides, like all other cultures in the world.

As said earlier, cultures, like people, have their good and bad sides.

If you can't see the good sides of the Yorubas, your fellow Ibos, Ebiras, Ijaws, Swahilis, and other ethnic groups in Africa, I'm not the one to convince you.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by A001: 9:27pm On Mar 27, 2023

Why do you keep supposing that I'm saying EVERY thing about African culture is "barbaric and savage" despite my best efforts in clarifying that stance.

A001, I'm not saying that everything about African culture is barbaric. I'm saying some, if not most are outdated.
That's what you've been saying here. Why are you suddenly lying?

You said the African cultures are barbaric, backward and savage and should be abolished, arguing that Africans should then adopt the English culture, the culture of their colonial masters.

Every right-thinking person knows there are many aspects of the African cultures that are barbaric and savage and need to be abolished.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by A001: 9:13pm On Mar 27, 2023
Some of the kindest people I know on this forum are Ibos, Ebiras, and Ijaws. So when you say African cultures are barbaric and savage because of the bad sides, you should know you're just making a noise and being unreasonable.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by A001: 9:07pm On Mar 27, 2023
Donjazet2:
So I ask again, A001, can you point out the positive aspects of African culture which we must nuture and imbue within us and possibly export to the world?
I don't have the time for that. There are many good aspects of the African cultures and many bad aspects as well.

They're visible to the blind and audible to the deaf.

To see the good sides of the African cultures, start from your immediate environment: the Ibo culture.

There are many kind and generous Ibo people. If you don't know this, I'm not the one to convince you.

Secondly you never gave me your answer on Ugandan anti-gay law or your perspective on gay people.

I'm particularly curious about your view on this because there is a woman like you I follow on twitter, her name is uju-anya. Just like you, she champions the supremacy of African culture, the difference between you two being that while you are Yoruba-centric, she is more igbo-centric. Note that she is also an atheist.

Here comes the caveat, this woman despite being a very vocal champion of "African culture" is an open homosexual. A lesbian with a married Nigerian female partner. A phenomenon which is looked upon as largely "unafrican". But this doesn't stop her from championing the African cause which is why I'm curious as to your views, seeing as you're also irreligious but largely afrocentric.
I don't see anything wrong in homosexuality. It's not my business what a person chooses to do with their body.

We've more serious problems to deal with in Africa that focusing on trivial issues like homosexuality.

All these religious people in this part of the world making noise about it are hypocrites.

Cultures are dynamic, and African cultures need to evolve and get rid of their stone-age beliefs and backward ideologies.

These are the negative aspects one should be condemning in the local cultures, not condemning the whole cultures altogether.

When you say the cultures of over 1.4 billion people in a region are barbaric, backward, and savage, you're calling those people barbaric, backward, and savage.

No sense in that.

All cultures have their good and bad sides, including the more advanced cultures of the West.

I'm sure you read about the shooting incident that just happened in the US claiming lives.

We both know more will still happen this year (hopefully, the US leadership gets a solution to the regular shooting incidents soon).

These shootings are one of the various bad sides of the American culture. But you can't say the American culture is evil and barbaric just because of this.

Cultures, like people, have their good and bad sides.

A001, I never heard back from you on my pertinent questions.

As a champion of "African culture", what are the aspects of African culture you believe we should all imbibe and possibly export to the world?

On my part, I listed negative aspects of culture that must be left behind and abolished, misogynistic bearings of our culture, scarification and immolation of children.
Diabolical practices. Female mutilation of private parts etc etc.

Now I'm eager to hear the positive aspects of our culture which we should imbibe. Because personally for me, I'm more for, acculturation than retrogression.
Not interested in this discussion. If you can't see the positive sides of over 1.4 billion people in a region, then you need serious psychiatric help.

Cultures are the software of the mind, and all cultures have their good and bad sides. The answers you seek are all around you.

Start from your culture at home, unless all your people in that side are savage and barbaric.
