Sure, it will be enough depending on how dedicated you are. Don't skip the drills, take as many practice as possible, take simulation tests. I studied under 5 weeks and I got 306 which is considerably low. if you can dedicate 6 to 8 weeks it will be better
sheeda995:
Please I wanto know if 3weeks will be enough for me to score above 300 in the GRe.
I have finished the Manhattan quant, but I Skipped the drills.I have as well completed 5decks in the Magoosh app.I haven't touched Awa at all.and as well I Havent read the verbal section. I have the magoosh videos and Princeton cracking the GRE. My IQ is average. I wont be doing anything for the three weeks, but just reading, am planning to start doing 6hours reading daily, and if I can even read more than that I will. But I just need to know if the target is reasonable. I plan to finish the pricton cracking GRe, do Just 9decks more, watch some magoosh videos(The one I have) like 10,(though I don't understand how I can gain from watching the magoosh videos, but since it seems like everyone here does watch it and say they gain, I plan to watch it as well.

So, I confirmed this information today after 11mins call with a professor in USA. She told me frankly that it's hard but not impossible for Msc students to get funding because most faculty members have long term project which they need committed students to help them with. So, we have higher chance if we go for PhD. Still waiting for decisions. I think she digs me tho grin grin

So far so good, I've gotten admission into King Fahd University of Petroleum and Mineral Studies (MSc in Chemical Engineering) with full sponsorship and Imperial College, London (MSc in Petroleum Engineering) no funding whatsoever, hoping on PTDF scholarship. I applied to LSU, KSU, Utah, Notre Dam. I just got a rejection email this morning from Notre Dam. I applied for PhD program in all USA schools as funding is most important. My profile: Bsc chemical Engineering, GPA 4.58 (3.74 WES conversion), toefl 98 and GRE 312.
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by aanexplus(m): 7:32pm On Feb 03, 2017
I will try your method bro. Cos, They categorically state it - Admitted without funding. Thanks big boss... I'm from Osogbo omo iya.
Time2Smile:

Hello, from a few things I have read on online, the initial admission letter for most MSc doesn't include funding. Sometimes funding can still be given to MSc. students after admission. Was it stated categorically in the admission letter that you have been admitted without funding? If so, mail them and let it be known that you are willing to accept the offer, but you would not be able to attend unless you are funded. Sometimes this school wants to see if one is in dire need of funding. There is a lot of money concentrated in few hands in this country that some are willing to pay the exorbitant fees, Let them know you are not one of those.

Still in vexation mode, Illinois Institute of Technology is a scam. They evaluated my app without reference letter. I mailed them twice complaining about this issue but they never send those letters and they evaluated me. Imagine.
# money wasted

I got a mail this afternoon from IIT (Illinois Institute of Technology). I mentioned earlier that this school gave me admission to non degree M. Eng structural engineering. They removed the decision last week. When I got the mail with subject Your application has been decided, I was scared to the bone.

I was disappointed. IIT gave me admission to the same M.Eng structural engineering with no funding. This admission is so useless. This is a very bad news. Feel like crying tho

Thanks boss. You help my mission.
seeker88:

For now, I can't specifically recommend schools that are not stingy with funding as I am also an applicant for Fall 2017. Your profile is okay. I'd suggest you search for schools that offers your course (with your desired specialization). You could narrow down your search to schools whose GRE requirements are close to your scores.

Also, check the research expenditure of schools/faculty.....I noticed that schools with higher research expenditure tend to give more funding to their students. Send emails to the graduate coordinator of the schools selected; certainly, most won't respond to your emails and few will respond. Strategize further based on responses received..... Send as many emails as you can; there's no fee for emailing the grad coord at least wink wink

During my search, I stumbled on a copy of Engineering School ranking from US News and World Report, and it was quite helpful in making my selection (I have attached a copy here for your use). I applied to very few top schools considering my 'not-stellar' profile, and turned more applications to the schools down the ranking while believing God for my testimony soon smiley smiley
https://www.dropbox.com/s/e9p1vxwrnnqszdy/All%20Engineering%20Ranking%202017-US%20News%20%26%20World%20Reports.xlsx?dl=0

Whichever strategy u wanna stick to, act fast because the priority deadline for most average school is around mid Feb 2017.

I wish you all d best in your application.

As long as it is added then it is fine. It appears they may very well give you the MSc Civil engineering as well and hopefully with the scholarship.

I think the problem is my SOP, I focused on structure and that is because they want me to be specific on the branch of civil I want. But it was boldly stated that I want to go for research based course. Although when I called the admission coord, she said the non-degree is just added because I qualified for it. I stated in my SOP that I need funding.

Scholastica16:

It means they want you to enroll for the non-degree program instead, which is absolute rubbish by the way.

Non-degree means that you would not get a degree at the end of the program and are just doing it to gain knowledge in structural engineering.

The reason they did this could be 2-pronged:

1. You stated in your SOP that gaining knowledge on structures is of utmost importance to you or

2. That you have a hefty bank statement and are willing to splurge.

I am saying this because non-degree students get zero financial aid or scholarship and when one juxtaposes it with the fact that IIT are pretty stingy with funding, you can see that the whole thing seems to be a dead-end.

My advice? Tell them expressly in your email that you want a degree program which you applied for except this non-degree program is an addendum to the one you applied to and would come at no extra cost.

What program exactly did u apply for? And what's d response from the graduate coordinator and d admission office when u mailed them?

I applied to Msc. Civil Engineering. The grad coord didnt reply my text. The admission coord said I have been admitted to Non-degree Msc. struct. Engineering. she mentioned it was because I qualified for that non-degree course that's why they add it. Her exact reply is bolded You have been admitted to a Non-degree Graduate in Structural Engineering.
The AppTracker for this is as follows :

Guys. How are you doing? I applied to Illinois Institute of Technology civil engineering. The admission officer created another application for me which is non-degree msc structural engineering. Does this means I won't be admitted to the normal app I want?

Go to the first page of the thread and you would get all the information you need. BY Mafit charges 50k for GRE if you consult their services. Otherwise, you may need to pay $205 at any rate your bank charges you at via PayPal.

Perhaps apart from Ebdib (deactivated account), EssayHelp, Hirschfelder, Time2Smile and to some degree Topiipii no other person on this thread can help you get 330 (as most of us did not hit that grin ). Be that as it may you could learn a lot by just reading the first page of the thread and posts of the afore-mentioned GRE-pulverizers.

Alternately, you could check platforms like quora.com and the likes to see how many Indians hit such scores and learn from them. Take note however, that the endpoint to this is gaining graduate admission to particular schools with as much funding as one needs. Which invariably means that you should be prepared to present a robust application with a lot of (prayers, luck, grace) or any other word that could cover up for serendipity, as getting the funding could swing either ways.

This post was done in a bid to elicit subtle amusement. Do not take it too seriously.

That's true. Quora helps a lot. Quora taught me how gre calculate dere score.

Hey bro thanks a lot. I apreciate.

Actually am looking at this year fall. I know it seems fast of me but I believe I can nail this with the right info.

Like I said, I have been preparing but the whole procedure seems confusing however, you just made me understand that I gotta nail GRE first and that's why k need to nail it ASAp

So should I register towards when I wanna write the test or should I register earlier?

Most schools fall deadline is feb 1 some might be feb 15. Do you think you can beat this deadline? The deadline I gave you is for funding. If you don't need funding well you can register for gre. Register earlier because centre might be filled up. You can register in advance so that u secure you space. Hope that helps?

Hello guys...
Sorry am gonna be a bit backward on this...

I hope to gain admission for msc mechanical engineering in USA. Right now, I understand that GRE comes first and having been following the thread, ive downloaded all the books necessary? The ones listed here) but the issues are...

When is best to apply for the GRE?

When is best for me to write the GRE test?

Should I go for paper based or computer based?

Which 4 schools do u recommend? (I need visa)

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi. Lemme answer the one I couod
1. Apply when you have prepared well. When your simulation tests shows u r ready for the test. Also that's the best time to write is some weeks after you are sure you have prepared well. Lemme give u a scenario. After studying for 2 months, powerprep shows you score of 305, in my opinion u r not ready, study more, when you have >315, register for the exam. Note that this depends on when you r targeting for admission. If it's fall 2018,you have to start preparation soonest.

2. Go for Computer based. You will have your unofficial results immediately and you don't have to kill yourself with unnecessary tension. If you wanna faint, u faint immediately in test hall... Lol

3. Schools depends on your gre score. So, ask that after your gre score. Make sure u register for school finder. It will make more sense.

Others will come in

Yes something good can come out of this. In my opinion you dont need to rewrite, just get a good SOP, LORs. And make sure you contact potential advisors, talk about their research area and why you are interested in it. Tell them problem solving is a thrilling experience for you. Attach your cv to the email.

Also you can check out. Uni of Notre Dame; the grad cord has sent me about 3 emails to apply( I registered for GRE score locator). I have a similar profile to yours. Although I wont be applying because I dont like their research concentration for my discipline.

Below is the mail I was sent. You can check the school out.

Dear ********

Greetings! I am the Director of Graduate Studies for Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at the University of Notre Dame, and am writing to encourage you to consider our graduate program. Notre Dame is a private university located about 90 miles east of Chicago, in the city of South Bend, IN. Our students come from every state and from around the world. Our doctoral program in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences (formerly Civil Engineering and Geological Sciences) was recently ranked by the National Research Council (NRC) as one of the top programs in the United States.Over the past 10 years, our M.S. and Ph.D. graduates have obtained high-profile positions in industry, government, and academia, with about 25% of our Ph.D. students placed in teaching-and-research faculty positions across the U.S. and around the world. We place great emphasis on the total education of students through coursework, research and personal mentorship. This is reflected in our low student to faculty ratio (4 to 1).Allstudents in our graduate program receivefull financial support, which consists of a stipend and a tuition waiver. Our standard stipend is over $27,000 special fellowships with stipends as high as $37,500 per year are offered to the most outstanding doctoral applicants.  Our department has a vibrant research program, with 24 full-time, teaching and research faculty and over 80 graduate students. Our department's research is grouped into four broad areas:Structural EngineeringEnvironmental EngineeringEnvironmental Fluid DynamicsEarth SciencesT
he department has decided to waive your application fee, which means you will be able to submit your application without being charged

May God crown our efforts. Search wide. You should be good.

Wow. Thanks bro. This is very good. I sent you a PM. Kindly reply. Thanks

The test is much more difficult in Q and about the same difficulty level in V (especially if you do well in the first V). This is based on my 2nd experience. Perhaps, selecting "unenrolled college graduate" has a role to play in why that was so. I was hoping to get Ebdib's 168 or Topiipii and Chem Engr01's 167 Q but when I started seeing GRE questions with paragraphs, I started telling God that any score above 156 is not bad grin

Yes o. The test was so difficult my head start aching. I used lot of guessing and logical reasoning to get that Quant score. Yday wasn't funny. Rara. Please if you want to do gre make sure u do everything in 5lb even if you know most of the stuffs. It helps a lot
Education / Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by aanexplus(m): 7:11am On Dec 19, 2016
Scholastica16:

Only consider rewriting if you have time and are sure the improvement is worth it. If you had say Q- 166 V- 140. I would tell you pointedly that a retake will be unnecessary seeing that you are an engineering student whose Q ably represents his stronger skill. Your TOEFL could help augment the weak V score.

That notwithstanding I think you should make do with this score now even if you are considering a retake as your GPA is competitive. I personally am beginning to think the GRE is overrated based on the information I have been reading online. In fact, on Nairaland, someone got admitted into LSU with a 306 (Q- 156 V- 150) whilst someone else with a 332 said he did not experience any benefit. People's experiences differ sha. The synopsis.

Thanks. I had Q157 V149. I will make use of this score like you said. Thanks a lot sir

The truth is that you cannot use one single material. Every material has its own strength and weakness.

For Quant
Use Grubber, ets and 5lb Manhattan
For verbal
Use Magoosh and Manhattan. Use Manhattan 500 essential and 500 advanced word lists.
