With the A levels, she will gain admission at the next likely opportunity and into 200 level. It's better than queuing for jamb admission DAramis: The price you mentioned is definitely much and private school is out of option for her. As for the A-levels, she will use it to gain admission straight right or what?
Thank you for the information so far. |

Most federal schools are good options. Some state schools like LASUCOM are great too but in my opinion, private schools are the best because of the incessant strikes we've been experiencing. If 180k -200k is not much per session, she should try her shot at University of Ibadan. However, I would suggest to you she registers for A levels. It'll cut her years for the admission process. Currently, there are about two sets on ground that's yet to resume 100 level (UI is still in 2018/2019 session) DAramis: Thank you for your detailed reply. My younger sister is an aspirant and she made similar remark on not being interested in pursuing her program in nursing school. That she would prefer the university route though she didn't have any cogent reason for such.
If you don't mind, do you have idea of good federal universities with great admission rate, affordable fees and good pass rate/graduation rates? Also, which university are you attending if it is not much asking?
She is making plans for it and I want to gather as much information I can get as possible for her in order to direct her appropriately. |

As a nursing student in the University, I can say the content of education is different. Schools of nursing only teach what is needed to pass their exams and as such, their curriculum is deficient. As for the degree, one is required to take courses from several fields including sociology, political science, administration, microbiology, statistics besides the general nursing and clinical courses. As for clinical postings, there is no difference in the level of competence between the two groups. Both pathways have to sit for a licensing exam in their final or penultimate year of study and so far anyone can pass it, they are competent enough to be nurse. The University education affords you a plethora of experiences that can't be gotten at the school of nursing. This alone is a good reason to opt for the university pathway DAramis: My question is this, why do people still have to go to back university after attending school of nursing?
Is it that, the education and skill acquired in nursing school is not adequate or could it be due to salary structure between them and nurses that graduated from universities being different ( Like it was obtainable between HND and university graduates)? |

Developing and acquiring skills (informal or formal) are integral part of education so I wonder why you assume I do not have some. I wonder where Nigerians got this wack mentality from. I like book no mean say I no get marketable skills..I'm just more interested in getting more quality education since it's what makes me happy. On the contrary, I'm surrounded by people who banked on degree and make it big/make something good out of it in less than 3 years so.... Abcruz: Been passionate about school doesn't prevent you from learning a skill. If you should look at the current state of Nigeria, banking on the degree alone may lead you off the bridge.

Those of us that are passionate about school and education nko? mudiana: I think u feel it's only tru school you can achieve something in life, that's not true. I have a master's but lemme shock u, I haven't used both my b.sc Nd m.sc to get a job. I learnt how to fix laptops in 3 months Nd steadily I grew from dere to selling laptops. I have a big business by God's grace now. School is good no doubt but don't let it limit your progress in life. You can achieve more without school, just look for what you are passionate about and go for it. soon it will become a money magnet for u. |

American employers love their education and job experience. The more of these you acquire, the juicer you become. Don't listen to anyone that says it's impossible to get ahead in America, do what is required and it will push your career ahead.
Current students, try to get an internship. I'll drop my resume here this weekend - one page long that includes anything remotely related to the role I was interested in. *Format it to appeal to your field.
Loaded the resume to the brim and was ready to defend everything written in it. Some things inside na partially dagbo! |

Nursing is one of the fastest growing profession in the world. The diverse opportunities are crazy! Once you leave the shores of this country, the wide range of options will always make you improve. Cetacean419: NURSING SCIENCE: Do you care so much about people that you are willing to take enough time to nurse them back to Health? Do you like building solid and Honest relationship with people? Are you looking for an Advancing Career where you never stop rising? Can you hold your bladder for a long time? Are you not really Grossed out(Strong Stomach)? Do you not mind being there for a Patient even at his or her death period? Then Nursing is for you. Nursing has being in existence from time immemorial. It is a profession which was designed to bring back a patient to Health and wellness. For example after serious Surgery a Patient has undergone,a Nurse (Perioperative Nurse) is the person who was there before, during and after surgery to ensure the patient is getting better or ailing even more. Nursing Science: The science of nursing is characterized by three themes of inquiry that relate to the function of intact humans: (1) principles and laws that govern life processes, well-being, and optimum function during illness and health; (2) patterns of human behavior in interaction with the environment in critical life situations; and (3) processes by which positive changes in health status are affected. The Myth: The myth is that Nursing is thought to be a Female profession or at least appears so. This became very pronounced during the Crimean War when Soldiers were injured and sick. The Lady Florence Nightingale was actively involved in treating patients using are two trademarks; Aseptic and Her Carrying Lamp. She is referred to the Mother of Modern Nursing. She propagated this Propaganda which is still in play till today" they are too dirty(Men) and less of a heart to handle this" when she was asked about men in the profession later. Another cause that there was an age of technology and advancement of Technology and Medicine. Then Many Men left for them because they were paying a lot of money. Then women filled in this things. Another Problem was there was poor enlightenment of young males to enhance them coming into the profession. Nurses who are Men are doing great in their field and thriving exponentially. Nursing Science In Nigeria: It started in UNIMAID in 1978. It seeks to understand the science of wellness of patients and not only that, it seeks to understand patient response to psychologically, spiritually and Physically. Where Can I work? *Hospitals * Care Homes * Pharmaceuticals * Military and Paramilitary * Teaching Facilities * Public Health The advantage of Nursing is that it is an independent profession. It has virtually all the various disciplines in Medicine and even More. They work very closely with Doctors to help patients get better. A Big advantage when you study Nursing Science(BNSc), you get three Certifications i think * Registered Nurse (R.N) * Registered Midwife (R.M) *Registered Nurse of Public Health (R.N PH) CONS: * As a man you build your confidence to overcome Gender Discrimination * You may not get so much mouth watering pay initially * You must continually build yourself to avoid being static * Endure a lot so you don't lose your cool. * So much Quackery |

As regards teaching, lecturers show up to teach and self directed learning is encouraged (no one can teach all one needs to know in class). If it's about public health and saving lives, should the government not be more concerned about road accidents? Also, as some of those accidents are a result of irresponsible behaviors (like over speeding), should the government not enforce a 15km/hr speed limit on all highways, so that irresponsible drivers like you (who like to do over 100km/hr) will not cost the lives of other innocent road users? Go figure! This reasoning no follow at all. Nigeria has conducted less than 250k tests so far for a population of 200M and you're here bathing in mediocrity.
