I think you guys need to understand that we are in Nigeria. So no matter how good Google map and others seem to be, the best one for us is the Nokia Map, or as we have it now the Here Map. It is the only map that you can successfully download on your device and use it anytime anywhere without needing to go online, it gives you full navigation support, unlike someone said that he/she lost attention and almost hit a car, that will hardly happen with me because the voice nav on my nokia/here map is enough to direct you, you hear things like : "take the 2nd exit at the next roundabout", after 150 meters take a right turn to Ahmadu Bello way, etc.
I have google map on my android and HereMap on my Nokia Lumia, but for convenience i use the nokia more. it is so sweet that you can just look for an address online, copy it and paste in the map, then Bingo! you're good to go.
Another advantage is that if you go somewhere you've never been before all you need to do is to save the location and name it as you like, and you don't have to ask anybody for direction when next you are going there, cos from anywhere you are in the world you can locate the place . It makes me feel like a King of the road whenever I'm going to an unknown place, esp with friends.

Here maps is great, but u can't really judge if u haven't used others. I have here maps on my Nokia lumia, works great. I also have google maps and sygic on my android and I can tell u nothing beats sygic when it comes to navigation. You don't need internet connection at all. Where here maps fail is lack of POI's, like if u are trying to locate a particular hostpital, just type the name and sygic will direct u to the closest one based on ur location without needing internet connection.

U are saying here maps has voice navigation, my friend voice navigation is standard on every GPS, google and sygic has voice navigation that even calls street names. Sygic will give u alternative routes which here and google doesn't have.

base Avensis offer fog lamps and 5 extra airbags than similar Camry American spec or not. ,The highest trim, which my relative had featured 8speaker infotainment system, factory fitted DVD on headrests that can be operated separately, rain sensitive wipers and parking sensors. What the xle Camry has that is lacking in the Avensis is a more powerful 3.0V6 engine and rear vents.

I don't see having fog lights as a big advantage. Even a 2014 Mercedes Benz S class doesn't have fog lights.. does that make it any inferior? XLE models of 2005 camry has fog lights. The only area I see the Avensis superior to the Camry is the number of airbags. If u think the 2005 Camry is boring to drive then the 2005 Avensis is terrible to drive. The car is slow as hell, 9.1 secs 0-60 for the 2.4L engine? No wonder pundits say the 2005 Avensis is less fun to drive than a Vectra.

Let's put it this way, get a high end android device like HTC one against the highest grade Blacberry and tell me which one lags or hangs more? I use an LG G3 and HTC one and I have never had to do a battery pull (my HTC one doesn't even have a removable battery and it has never hanged on me). I can't count the number of times people that use Blackberry around me have to pull their battery due to hanging.

But tell me which phone would have a snapdragon 801 and QHD display that won't drain battery? Blackberry and Iphone users are known to be wall huggers. In fact android have been using 1080p display since 2013 while blackberry are just starting to make phones with 1080p screen.. android on the other hand are already moving to QHD. Motorolla moto droind turbo, Sony xperia z3, HTC one M8, Samsung galaxy note 4, one plus one, all have better batteries and screens than any blackberry and Iphone.

Compare Japanese Avensis with Japanese Camry and kindly stop comparing Japanese Avensis with the watered down North American variant of the Camry. This is an Apples to Apples comparison.

What insult? The car wasn't branded 'big for nothing' for the fun of it. It does not look good. Toyota got to their blandest point with that camry. Besides, except for the rear vents in the xle, a base avensis has arguably more features than an xle camry.

Can u name those features present on an 05 avensis that are lacking on 05 Camry? We are all here to learn but no assumptions.

The auto leveler is there to adjust ur headlamps so u don't blind upcoming drivers at night. I assume ur car came with hid xenon lights from factory. Removing the part will cause ur headlights not to auto adjust, and of course u have those error codes on ur dash.

If the man was heading to Kaduna to deliver the victim, it means there was an intending buyer. why didn't the Nigerian police make him take them to those people buying the kidnapped victims? I disconnected the wire in the last pix and connected the switch. The fan does not run even with the AC switched ON. However, I drove the car for about 20 km (40 minutes drive) within the city but it didn't overheat. I noticed that the RPM which usually rises to 1500 and later idles at 1000 is now idling at about 500-600. Dunno if there's any correlation. The pix below shows the engine temperature after the trip. is this the ideal engine temperature of a 1996 honda civic? I'm yet to get a thermostat but will continue searching for one tomorrow.

At this temperature ur car is running normal and I see no reason to replace the thermostat. Honda civic's normal temperature doesn't have to be at the halfway mark, its got to be a tad below it.

from the temprature guage in the photo you posted your car appears to be running a little bit cold. the guage should be exactly half way.
i ll briefly explain how the cooling system works to help you understand me more.
the engine has an optimum operating range at which efficiency is at its maximum.what the thermostat does is it stays shut when the enigne is cold to restrict the flow of the engine coolant so the enigine can warm up quickly.once the enigine gets to the low point of the operating temperature range the thermostat opens and the coolant starts to flow but the fan stays off, thus slowly cooling the engine and keeping it within the operating range. when the temperature is about to exceed the maximum operating temp the fan comes on and cools it down a bit. when the car is in motion there's enough air flowing through the grill and the radiator of the car to effectively cool the radiator.
that said, what you need to do now is remove that short wire from the fan switch and connect the switch directly to the fan switch sensor, make sure theres good contact then let the engine run with the hood open. keep watching the temperature gauge in the dash cluster when the guage is exactly halfway the fan should come on. if it doesnt the fan switch is bad

Sir u are wrong. The picture of the temperature posted is the normal temperature a 96 civic should run. Not all cars have their normal temperature at the halfway mark, Hondas particularly. The norm temperature of a VTEC or I VTEC engine is always a tad below the halfway mark.

The avensis is just the European version of Camry with smaller engine. Those saying the 2005 avensis is more powerful just because they added a 2.4L option (which is very rare) forgot the Camry also has a 3.0L v6 with 190hp.

You probably have too much atf in there. Check the level while car is idling and if over filed drain some.

Now to the most important part. What is normal atf? Any at u buy for 500- 700 naira is not the recommended type. Honda reccomends atf DW1 for ur car and anything else will damage ur transmission (that is if it has not been damaged already). Atf dw1 sells for between 2,500 - 3,000 naira per quart depending on where u buy it from and Honda atf dw1 is clearly written on it. Honda transmission does not tolerate any abuse, use the wrong fluid and kiss ur automatic transmission goodbye. Those cheap atf cannot stand the test while the transmission is hot. Yes transmissions get hot while ur car is working and only the recommended atf can stand that temperature.

Would suggest you follow these procedures before buying; Write down, detailed information about your vehicle narrow it down to VIN, when you get to the shop ask for the mileage on the engine, you can allow them do an auto history check on the engine, or ask for the engine history report, ask for major faults on the engine especially if it was Accidented, also ask if it's a V4 or V6 engine, find out if the Auto shop has Waranty on the engine.

Mileage of tokunbo engine in Nigeria? Auto history check on tokunbo engine? Any faults on tokunbo engine? Dude when will u get real? I know some tokunbo engines have mileage tag on them (only very few and it is easy for dealers to just change the tag. Also u want engine history for an old mazda 626?).

The only way to know a good tokunbo engine is by physical inspection, check the color or the oil inside and turn the engine to see if it still got pressure so u still need someone with experience to go with u. Most importantly PRAY luck is on ur side. Mount the engine as soon as possible because boys in ladipo will not give u more than 1 week warranty.

I use my mirrors exclusively, never turn my head. And now that I have parking assist and reverse camera things just got a lot easier. I think I've been spoilt and whenever I try driving a car without parking assist and reverse camera it normally takes me a few seconds to adjust to using just the mirrors.

So far, I've used only mobil engine oil with it, and that's what I'll continue using.


Engine is an IVTech 2.4L, 4 valves, Double overhead cam (DOHC) Engine.

If what u used is Mobil Super XHP then I'm afraid u are using the wrong oil. That oil is 20W50 which is too thick for ur Ivtec engine. Most Mechanics just recommend that oil not minding the car, that oil is meant for older cars not modern engine. Even Mobil 1 sold in Nigeria is 0w40. What's the point of buying a really good car and then use some cheap oil in it? Honda recommends 5W20 oil which is the oil that will bring out the best result in ur engine. If u can't find it at the stores then order it from Konga online.

This is indeed bullshit. Tropicization my foot. A quick question, in cities like Windsor Ontario, do they change their radiator to double cell and remove their thermostat in the summer? Because in their summer their temperature gets as high as 28 ℃. Also during the summer in Arizona USA, their temperature get as high as 35℃, that is hotter than the temperature in kano, do they also change their radiator and remove thermostat? Car manufacturers test their cars with extreme weather conditions before putting them on the market.

I drive a 2005 Honda accord that was imported from Canada and I don't dare remove the thermostat. I have the factory single cell radiator and been driving it for 3 years now without any problem. Oh and I never bypass my cooling fans. It is a joy to watch the temperature meter rise to the optimum temperature within 2 mins after starting it in the morning. Engines are meant to run warm and can only perform when the temperature is at optimum. Using a double cell radiator and removing the thermostat will make the engine run colder for longer period which is not good for the engine. If u are experiencing overheating, the best thing is to fund out the culprit rather than removing thermostat all in the name of tropicalization.

I don't think they even build windows 8 laptops with less than 1gb of ram. I think 1gb is the minimum but we all know 1gb of ram is not even enough for smart phones these days not to talk of a full computer. If u have less than 3gb u are on ur own.

This is just like someone using a low spec tecno phone and when the phone lags he blames android kit Kat for it.

Konga for me. I been using jumia a long time before trying konga. Both services are good, but konga delivers faster than jumia. What I do these days is when I see something I wanna buy, I'll just order for the product on both websites using pay on delivery. Konga delivers within 3-5 days while jumia always call me about 1 week after konga might have delivered and I just tell them never to bother as I've gotten the product somewhere else. I've done this countless of times and konga always deliver first.

No matter how u put it, chrome is still the best all round browser for android. Might not be as rich and might lack features on other browsers but talk about overall functionality, chrome is the best.

Bros u try no be small. Any modern car will not survive being abused, even ur dearest Toyota. When u get an 08 camry and remove the thermostat, bypass the fan, use 20w50 oil and use abro atf, do u think it would survive? The answer is NO.

I have been driving a Honda accord for 3 years and have experienced ball joint failure just once. That was because on buying it my mechanic advised I change the ball joints and he replaced the OEM ones with substandard ones. The reslut, lost a ball joint after 2 months decided to change to OEM and have never lost a ball joint for close to 3 years. I do periodic check on them and change as at when due. Every car has its own problems.

OK the MDX might be a little more fragile but not enough to say someone who admires it should stay away from it. It all books down to proper maintenance culture and using recommended parts. I see lots of accords lose ball joint but I've never seen an MDX lose one.

If ur car is imported from north America and the navigation is OEM, I'm afraid u are out of luck.

Mr Mike I guess this is a follow on the discussion between lexus and Acura, if the Acura MDX can't do all what the Rx330 nav can do then I give the lexus. A better mark in this NAV category. Oya chucky123 what you have to say.

Ha ha, pls don't start that one. The MDX will do all those things a Lexus can do and even more in terms of tech. My point is just that the particular model of MDX I drove had navigation but the navigation screen is useless without the navigation DVD which is not available in Nigeria. Honda/acura normally have a separate screen for their media. In this particular MDX the secondary screen is very small and monochrome which it uses to display media and air con. There are 2 standard screens on newer models of Honda /acura, though both screens can be confusing sometimes.

Even most v6 engines have turbos added to them.
That means i4 engines can behave somewhat like a v6 if turbos are present.

Bros there are no turbos on corollas and civics. As a matter of fact most jap mobiles don't have turbo until recently.. And turbos have never been fitted to any corolla, Camry, civic, accord, etc. U can find turbos mostly on German cars like the vw Passat and golf. Modern i4's have fast acceleration naturally and are just about 2-3 seconds s slower than their v6 counterparts.
