Another building has collapsed in Lagos on Monday, March 25. The building, a two-storey edifice collapsed midday on Lagos Island. According to the Lagos State Management Agency (LASEMA), no one was trapped in the rubbles. Security operatives and emergency workers have arrived at the scene to ensure others residents are safe and that the rubles are disposed of properly. The incident on Monday comes on the heels of a similar mishap which was recorded in the metropolis on Wednesday, March 13, when a three-storey building housing a school collapsed, trapping more than 100 persons, including pupils. The ill-fated building was located on the crowded Ita-Faji street within the heart of Lagos Island. Thousands of residents and many emergency workers descended on the scene and rescued many upon arrival, but some remained trapped and witnesses gave early death toll figures at eight to nine. source: Channels tv |
The management of Club Leicester has dismissed African Billionaires willing to buy the club citing that the club cannot be under an African. This follows shortly after Leicester’s club owner, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha passed on in a plane crash last month. Africa’s Ruto and Dangote had partnerd in an attempt to buy the club and share ownership on equal terms. Ruto had told of his plans to transform Leicester into a football giant in Europe and the entire world if given the opportunity to own it. The Leicester city management has however not welcomed the two insisting that the club owner should not be of African descent. Other Billionaires willing to buy the club are from Russia, The United States,China and England. Source: Hi Sport. |

The White House is plagued with cockroaches, mice and ants, building maintenance files have revealed. Cockroach infestations were found in at least four parts of Donald Trump’s official residence, while a colony of ants were living in Chief of Staff John Kelly’s office, according to hundreds of work orders obtained by NBC 4 Washington. Mice were also discovered to be living in the Situation Room – the US President’s crisis management centre – and the White House Navy mess food area. White House officials sent hundreds of requests to the General Services Administration, which helps maintain the White House and other government buildings, documents show. Requests included the redecorating of National Security Adviser HR McMaster’s office and a new toilet seat in a bathroom in the Oval Office. Former White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, had also asked for new furniture and pictures to be hung in his office shortly after Mr. Trump’s inauguration. General Brian Miller, a former General Services Administration inspector, told NBC maintaining the White House was an “enormous job.” “GSA hires contractors and subcontractors for the work. Then the agency must watch over the contractors.” He added: “They are old buildings. Any of us who have old houses know old houses need a lot of work.” Despite the large number of requests in 2017, the Obama administration filed a similar number in its last year in office, NBC reports. How Fayose Was Humiliated In Isan The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, this afternoon got more than he bargained for in Isan Ekiti, the home town of former Governor Kayode Fayemi, as his plot to steal the show in his usual manner to embarrass the minister turned awry, resulting in a huge embarrassment as he was booed to no end by the crowd of angry women, including those he had recruited to be among his cheering crowd. From across the local government, Fayose recruited his supporters, women and drummers to outshine Fayemi in his own town. In his usual style of always wanting to steal the show whenever Dr. Fayemi is present at any occasion, he came late to the coronation ceremony of the new Onisan of Isan Ekiti, Oba Ayodele Adejuwon. The Master of Ceremony had earlier announced that Fayose's Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kolade Kolapo, represented the Governor. Long after Dr. Fayemi made his speech and departed for an urgent national assignment, Fayose came with his usual razzmatazz when the Erelu of Isan Kingdom and wife of Minister for Mines and Steel Development, Chief (Mrs) Bisi Fayemi, was doing her traditional dance as demanded by custom and as contained in the programme. The women were dancing with Erelu and were oblivious of the arrival of Fayose. The crowd of a singing party that Fayose had assembled had thinned out when the governor did not show up. By the time Fayose arrived when the programme was about to be concluded, the remnants of his rented crowd who had lost their patience did not have the courage to identify with the governor as Erelu Fayemi danced away with a huge crowd of women dancing with her. Fayose entered the arena thoroughly embarrassed and became uncomfortable where he sat. The women singing Erelu's praises became very angry when the Chairman of Oye Local Govt insinuated that he caused Dr. Kayode Fayemi to run away from the event because Fayose was coming. This infuriated the women, as they increased the tempo of their songs and started abusing Fayose with parables that he will soon vacate his position. As if that was not enough, when it was time for Fayose to make his speech, life was choked out of the loudspeakers, as they refused to work. He tried in vain for several minutes to bring the microphone and loudspeakers back to life. Frustrated, Fayose started to deliver a message that nobody heard, as the crowds watching a masquerade performance were more interested in the entertainment by the heavenly creature than what their governor wanted to say. With the loudspeakers refusing to work, Fayose resorted to governorship monologue, as the governor only spoke to himself, even as the women increased the tempo of their singing and dancing. Nobody heard what he was saying. A furious Fayose came back to his seat next to the oba and started complaining to Erelu Bisi Fayemi and former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, that they should help appeal to the women to calm down and stop singing. Erelu tried to calm the women down but they didn't bulge, citing the utterances of Oye local government chairman insinuating that he chased Dr. Fayemi away as the reason for their anger. Promptly, Fayose who was by then sweating profusely as a result of the embarrassment, summoned the local government chairman and asked him if he actually said he sent Dr. Fayemi away but he flatly denied it. The women became angrier in reaction to the lie by the LG Chairman, even as the tempo and pitch of their singing increased. A restless Fayose kept complaining to Erelu Bisi Fayemi and Prof. Adelabu who were also helpless in calming the women down. Olota News Review observed that Fayose contributed to his own humiliation, as it was apparent that those he used to rely upon in such occasions had turned their back on him over unpaid salary while allegations of frauds that benefit him alone and neglect of his followers were also cited for non-support for him at that crucial public function. Fayose was simply left to his fate. It became so bad that one of the APC women told Fayose to his face, saying: "In or before 2018, you shall be removed." A shocked Fayose could not stomach this, as he asked loudly: "You will remove me"? And he received a thunderous "yes" from the women. Impatience was boldly written on Fayose's face, but to leave the table in the face of the hostility became a problem. But a foxy Fayose, as usual, had an answer to make a photo-finish disappearance from that hostile environment. To the surprise of everyone, Fayose pushed a fast one, appeasing the women with N500, 000 and joined them in dancing but the women increased the praise songs for Dr. Fayemi, saying he is their son who has done well for them not only in the town but in the state. Fayose left the occasion highly subdued and embarrassed. One indigene of Isan who was telling another person what happened remarked in Yoruba, saying: "Bawo ni man yi se le ro wipe oun le wa si Isan wa yeye Omo won, ki won de maa woo niran?" (How did this man think he can come to Isan and embarrass their son and think the people of the town will keep quiet?) Sources close to Fayose hinted that he was very angry with the Oye Local Government Chairman and the member of House of Assembly representing the area, Dr. Samuel Omotoso, for allowing him to be humiliated in such manner. Fayose is said to be strategising against next week's burial of General Adeyinka Adebayo so that he doesn't suffer similar fate. |

There was a well in a part of Madinah belonging to a Jew. It was the only source of water in that part, and the Jew charged Muslims exorbitant amounts for water. Uthman (ra) offered to buy the well, but the Jew refused. Uthman (ra) then proposed to buy half of the well, with an agreement that each would fetch on alternate days. The Jew knew Uthman (ra) as a clever businessman, and was flattered to have him as a business partner, thinking that this would increase his sales. The exact opposite happened... no one bought water from him again. Uthman (ra) opened the well for Allah's sake, allowing people to fetch as they wanted. The people would fetch two days' supply on his day and ignore the Jew's day. Despondently, the Jew offerred Uthman (ra) the other half, which Uthman (ra) bought for 20,000 dirhams (really kind of Uthman, if me, I would have negotiated it down to almost zero, since it was now worthless to the Jew... A few years later, a sahabi offered to buy up the well from Uthman (ra). He refused, saying that he had been offered much more. The man kept increasing his offer, and Uthman kept refusing on the ground that he had been offered much more. Baffled, the man asked him who had offered so much, and how much had been offered. Uthman (ra) said... "Allah has offered ten times the reward for charity given to Muslims". The well was kept for the free use of Muslims, up to and after the death of Usman (ra), but the story does not end yet... During the Ummayyad dynasty, the well and the surrounding ground (still nominally in the name of Usman (ra) since it was charitable and not inherited) were kept for free use by Muslims. Date palms grew on the grounds, and grew numerous overtime. The dates were also harvested and given to charity in the name of Usman bin Affan (ra). This continued during the time of the Abbassid period and later. In the present history of Saudi Arabia, the decision was made to organise it into a modern plantation. The money was shared into two parts, half to be given in charity, mainly to widows and orphans, the other half to be reinvested. This plan was (and is still) being carried out. Today, a bank account exists in the name of Usman bin Affan, from which half of all moneys gained from the plantation are remitted, while the other half is still being given out as charity. Out of this money, an amount was invested into purchasing land around the Masjid anNabawi in Madinah. This was developed into a hotel and accomodation for visitors to the mosque, and as per arrangement, half the income was also given out as charity, while half is being remitted to the account to be reinvested. As at now, disbursements from this charity, started off by the virtuous sahabi, Usman bin Affan, is upwards of SR50million monthly. The well is known today as Bi'ir Uthman or Bi'ir Rummah. One charitable deed that has earned its giver rewards for over 14centuries. May Allah reward the Companions of the Prophet (ﷺ ), not only for their charitable deeds, but also for the help they provided in aiding our noble Prophet for us, and transmitting his message faithfully down to us for our own benefit. May Allah grant them jannat al alfirdaus and join us with them in the hereafter...Ameen |
At last, it is with excitement, capital joy amidst jubilation and celebration of over 20 years struggle of Nigerian Polytechnic students and graduates including the staff unions and heads of Polytechnic in Nigeria. I am pleased to announce to the public that the COUNCIL OF ESTABLISHMENT which comprises of all the head of service of the 36 States of the Federation and the head of service of the Federation approved the removal of this long overdue dichotomy which hinder the career progression of HND holders in civil service in her meeting held in Minna Niger state capital during the week after an exhaustive deliberation, pro and anti deposition which ended with tie vote of 16 against 16 while the head of service of the Federation voted in support as presiding officer after the tie, to earn the Polytechnic sector the victory. Making the vote 17 pro against 16 anti. Henceforth, This resolution automatically lift embargo on HND holder career progression in civil service as the holder can now rise beyond Deputy Director in civil service as well enjoy all sort of benefits/promotion to the topmost rank due to BSc holders in civil service. It is on record that this same Council was the sole obstacle for this struggle since year 2005 when President Olusegun Obasanjo pronounced the removal of this dichotomy, the Council called the then president statement a mere pronouncement with out documentation and refused it adoption nor implementation. It will be recalled that the last meeting of the council which was held at Ilorin kwara state capital witness heavy presence of Nigeria Polytechnic students which I personally led as the National Senate President of NAPS to the council in protest for the need for the council to reconsider her position on the said matter. A position paper was submitted after the protest as demanded by the then head of service of Federation who was the chairman of the Council, unfortunately, the matter was completely discussed nor concluded at Ilorin until now in her next meeting in Niger state. The Council often meets every 3 years, On behalf of the entire West Africa Polytechnic students and most especially the Nigeria Polytechnic students, I express sincere gratitude to the head of service of states and that of the Federation who stood for us and with us, the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Board for Technical Education NTBE, Council of Head of Polytechnic and Colleges of Technology COHEADS, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic ASUP, past and present leadership of National Association Of Polytechnic Students NAPS and by extension the Nigerians Union of journalist for their support all through the struggle. We look forward for immediate implementation by all state of the Federation, Federal government agencies and departments while I call on all Polytechnic student to join us as we Commence appreciation/celebration. Aluta continua, Victoria Ascerta, No retreat no surrender, As long as we live, struggle continues. Amb S A Lukman #AIG Immediate past Senate President NAPS, Outgoing Regional President WAPSU |
