Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu has warned south-east governors to steer clear from the group’s Eastern Security Network following the governors’ rejection of the security outfit, Igbere TV reports.

Mr Kanu had launched the Eastern Security Network on December 12 to tackle “terrorists” threats to the south-east people.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Sunday, the IPOB leader said the rejection of the security outfit by the governors was a cowardly move, adding that it would not reversed.

“We condemn in very strong terms the recent shameful statement credited to Governor Dave Umahi on behalf of his fellow lily-livered and coward governors of the South-East against the newly established Eastern Security Network,” the group said.

“Such a cowardly statement is nothing but a shameful display of their irredeemable enslavement and loyalty to their caliphate slave masters, who in the first place appointed them governors.

“…But our message to the treacherous South-East governors and their South-South counterparts is that the train has since left the station and can’t reverse its cause.

“It’s pretty too late to have a rethink. The people have got what they long desired, which the cowardly governors failed to give them because of selfish political interests.”

Kanu restated that the security outfit was not a Biafra army “but a vigilante group established to protect Biafrans against terrorists.”

Citing transparency, humility and commitment to accountability the National Assembly yesterday resolved to lift the ban it earlier placed on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), the parliamentarians also adopted the 2021 budget proposal of the commission, Igbere TV reports.

The resolutions were reached at the joint budget defense session which had in attendance members of the committees on Niger Delta and NDDC of the Senate and House of Representatives, where both chambers agreed to work with the NDDC led a sole administrator.

The meeting had in attendance committee Chairmen Senate committee on Niger Delta, Senator Peter Nwaboshi and the Chairman House of Representatives of Niger Delta Development Commission.

Making his maiden attendance before the committee, the newly appointed interim sole administrator of the commission, Mr. Effiong Akwa had in a letter addressed to the President of Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan indicated his commitment to transparency, honesty and accountability in the discharge of his duties. On accountability Effiong, explained in the letter his awareness of the implications of spending funds outside budgetary allocation and appropriation.

In view of the objective of the letter , Senator James Manager moved a motion for the NDDC budget proposal to be adopted by the committee, the motion was subsequently seconded by the spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, this was followed by an unanimous.resolution by members of both parliament to receive the commission’s budget.

Prior to the resolution, Nwaboshi had in his remark charged the Effiong to see the gesture by the committee as a privilege, he urged the new sole administrator to remain firm in his words, not to take undue advantage of the privilege given to him by the committee.

In his words “The motion on the floor.moved by Senator Manager seconded by Hon. Benjamin Kalu saying that in view of the new administrator’s humble disposition and in line with the letter he wrote telling us that he understands the implication of spending money without it.being appropriated. I want to thank the Senate President for lifting the ban placed on them for incompetence and some of the infractions the IMC committed.

In his remarks on the letter Chief Whip of the Senate , Senator Orji Kalu rallied his colleagues to lend their support to the new administrator.

He said :” Given the letter that distinguished Senator Nwaboshi read , the letter was written to the Senate President I think that should give us some hope , we are not in this hall to be fighting everyday. Let’s give this gentleman a benefit of doubt . He will come again and we are going to throughly scrutinize this budget.Let’s give him the benefit of doubt to go and we shall work on the budget.

On his part Chairman House of Representatives committee on Niger Delta Commission, Hon.Tunji Ojo drew attention of Effiong to the issues which had bedevilled the commission under the erstwhile Interim Management Committee (IMC) He urged the Effiong to seek for alternative means for funding the commission.

He said “It is imperative to draw.attention to some of the concerns that we have consistently raised during our interactions for the purpose of reiterating the objective of NDDC which is to drive sustainable development in the Niger Delta region. It’s a proposal we would like to propose to you and advice that the NDDC has to look at alternative means of revenue generation, hopefully 30% for partnerships, joint ventures agreement and 50% for capital development projects and 20% for completion and payment of existing projects.

“Thank you for this beautiful award, I’m humbled,” she wrote.

A youth group, Ebem Ohafia United Front has expressed sadness over the bad state of the road leading to the home of the Paramount Ruler of the community, Eze Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, Kpoke 1 Ekelougo Ebem Ohafia.

The National President of the group, Comrade Ojo Kalu in an interview stated that the palliative works carried out last year on the road was done by the royal father himself.

He wondered why the appropriate authorities have not intervened to alleviate the suffering of the community.

Comrade Kalu emphasized that this has affected the economic and social lives of the people, calling on state government and representatives of the community at state and National Assembly to save the community from the hardship infested by the state of the road.

"Our traditional institution in Igbo land has not been accorded with the needed honour and this is just an example of it. This cannot happen in the North or West. I see it as shameful and embarrassing. No car can drive to the king's palace. This is not something to be happy about and I think it's an indictment on all of us" he said.

He called on well to do sons and daughters of Ebem to put hands together and ensure that the community is saved from further embarrassment for immediately mobilizing resources to effect repair work on the road.

Former Governor of Abia State and Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Kalu has described the demise of the Publisher of Leadership newspapers, Mr Sam Ndah-Isaiah as a huge loss to the media industry and Nigeria at large, Igbere TV reports.

The former Governor, while extolling the virtues of the deceased, stressed that the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a patriotic statesman and detrabilized Nigerian with passion for a prosperous and united Nigeria.

Applauding the worthy legacies of the late Publisher, Kalu admonished family members,friends and associates of the deceased to sustain the good deeds of Ndah-Isaiah, noting that the late media guru contributed immensely to the media industry locally and internationally.

In his tribute, the Chief Whip of the Senate, commiserated with people and government of Niger state, adding that the late Ndah-Isaiah was a notable figure beyond the media industry.

He said, " the passing of the Publisher of Leadership newspaper, Mr Sam Ndah-Isaiah is a big loss to Nigeria.

"The deceased played various roles in nation building as a columnist, entrepreneur, philanthropist and politician.

"The late publisher was dogged, humble, forthright and consistent.

"His invaluable contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria are worthy of commendation and emulation.

"The late media guru, no doubt, will forever be remembered for his good legacies"

Kalu, who also extended his sincere condolences to Newspaper Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN) and other stakeholders in the media industry, prayed to God to rest of the soul of Nda-Isaiah and give the deceased's family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.

The Rivers State Police Command, on Thursday, December 3, paraded three suspects arrested in connection with the attack on the Christian Universal Church International that belongs to the father of Rivers Governor, Nyesom Wike, in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Saturday night, November 28, Igbere TV reports.

Parading the suspects this afternoon, the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph G. Mukan, said the suspects confessed to their complicity in the dastardly act.

He gave the names of the suspects as Progress Onwudinjo ‘m’ 37 years from Etche LGA, Rivers State, Apuru Victor ‘m’ 23 years from Ebonyi State and John Okorie ‘m’ 38 years from Abia State.

Mukan added that in their statements, the suspects confessed to being members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), admitted they acted on the directive of a certain benefactor whose name will not be made public for obvious reasons pending the outcome of the investigation.

He said the investigation is still ongoing after which the suspects will be charged to court.

The police boss warned miscreants in the State, especially those operating under the guise of IPOB to have a rethink or face the full weight of the law.

He reassured the residents of the State that there is no cause for alarm as the Command under his watch is more than ever prepared to deal with all criminal elements in the State.

He appealed to residents of the state to share credible and actionable information with the Police and take advantage of the Community Policing Initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, NPM in bringing policing to the communities.

A suspected wizard, identified as Omamuyovwi, who was returning from the coven, has crashed landed on the rooftop of a building with N100 in his hand at Okpokpor Street in Okpara-Inland in Ethiope-East Local Government Area of Delta State, Igbere TV reports.

He was caught by indigenes and residents of the community who beat him to stupor on Saturday, November 28.

He was flogged with plantain leaves and while at the point of setting him ablaze, the community vigilante came to his rescue.

The vigilante pleaded against jungle justice and took him to his family Compound at Igberhe Street, where he allegedly confessed to have committed so many atrocities against man and God.

The said wizard who’s also a motorcycle operator, said he was being chased by a deity(Igberhe juju), from the coven, when he ran out of fuel and crash-landed.

Former vice-presidential candidate Peter Obi has condoled with the Catholic Bishop of Awgu Diocese Most Rev J. I. Okoye over the road accident that recently claimed the lives of some staff and students of Presentation Nursery and Primary School, Awgu, Igbere TV reports.

About 10 persons both staff and students of the school died in the accident.

Mr Obi who paid a visit to the school on Wednesday said he was saddened over the accident.

He recalled how some of his friends died during his school days at St Charles College, Onitsha.

Obi further presented a cheque of N1 million to the school to help them step up their educational facilities.

Welcoming the former governor to Awgu Diocese, Bishop Okoye said they had accepted the accident as the will of God.

“Obi called to condole with us immediately he got the news of the accident. We appreciate him for sacrificing time to be here with us today,” he said.

Diocesan secretary Fr Leander Ezeh, cathedral administrator Fr Emeka Nwadi and school principal Sr Udechukwu Chisomma all joined voices to appreciate Obi.
