Block work up to lintel level
|
To the next stage of work which includes the following: 1. Block work up to lintel level 2. Ring lintel round the building 3. Additional block work up to decking level |

Finally, we are casting the DPC of the foundation we are going to use a mix ratio of 1:2:4, gravel, stone dust and sharp sand
|
We have more pictures of this stage.... Before I come with more pictures let me explain the nominal reinforcement we provided above. The reinforcement is Y8 ( 8mm diameter high yield steel) spaced at 350mm center to center across all the foundation area to help prevent cracking of the ground floor slab
|
After this stage, we will need to apply a DPM and a layer of hardcore to prevent moisture rising through the foundation. follow us as we apply these and we also make allowance for nominal reinforcement to prevent cracking of the DPC or german floor mass concrete
|
After completion of the filling, we have to allow the fill to settled by gravity and rainfall for two weeks before we finally compact the soil through the use of a mechanical roller

Here is another duplex under construction https://www.nairaland.com/4142180/construction-five-bedroom-duplex-pent |
Having completed the block work, we will start making arrangement for foundation filling.
|
We have more final pictures from the foundation block work for you guys
|
We also introduce some tie beam at the center of any walls taller than 5 courses of block to break them and protect them against the active soil bearing pressure from the foundation filling
|
completion of the foundation walls. Here, we are going to fill all the block holes with concrete to convert the foundation walls int a load-bearing structure.

mufutau55:you are right sir, it definitely depend on the type of door to be installed |
alstacs:From my own personal experience, I will advise you to carried out the work in the following orders 1. Window installation 2. POP work 3. Tiling work 4. Door installation should come after completion of tiling work |
kolnel:When properly done felting should solved such problem. We are going to felt the building and that will be enough to prevent moisture penetrating through the side. |

Preparation and setting of foundation block wall: The foundation will be built in three different stages due to the topography of the site. The site slope from back to the front with such differences in level gotten through the help of our leveling instrument. We have been able to set our back height of damp proof course (DPC) to 4 courses of blocks and 450mm plinth beam ( the DPC of 150mm included in this dimension), while the lowest point in the front was pegged at 4 initial courses of block work with an intermediate beam reinforced with Y12 with ring spaced at 300mm c/c, 4 additional courses of block wall and a final plinth beam of 450mm (which also include the DPM) All the substructure block wall were filled with weak concrete of M5 to give them more structural rigidity The plinth at the DPC level was expended throughout to connect all the foundation columns to serve as a horizontal tie

Completion of foundation footing concreting: The following observation can be made 1. the concrete mix is not too watering: we batch based on a water-cement ratio) to enable us to have adequate workability without compromising the concrete strength, because too much water will render our concrete weaker while too little water will make our concrete not workable (workability is the ease at which concrete flow when poured into form) 2.It can be observed that adequate vibration of the concrete was carried out to expel air burble from the voids of the aggregates in other to have a more consistent concrete 3. It can be seen that the mix is rich in cement and other constituent aggregates in their correct proportions 4. The anchorage of the starter bar to the basket is adequate ( about 450mm ) in other transfer loads from the column to the foundation footings adequately 5. starter columns are positioned at the center of the footing to have zero eccentricity |
omio4real:where is the building located ? what is the height of the roof? |
megacontrol:From my own personal experience, having used both styles of roof, I will summarize there advantage and disadvantage as follows: 1. The low pitch roof with hidden parapet wall is cheaper - The roof area is much smaller which result in lesser quantities of roofing materials - Ordinary long span is used, which is much cheaper per square meters compared to stone coated roofing sheet - The quantity of timber truss required is considerably smaller because of lower hight, longer spacing of purline, fewer number tie-beams, and rafters - Cost of workmanship for both roof truss and workmanship is cheaper because of the smaller job required to be done. 2.Both are similar in durability - this is a very close one between the two, a very good quality stone coated roofing sheet on a high pitch roof will last for a very long time provided that the color remains unchanged.the problem arises from a change of color which may render the roof looking ugly without any damages to the functionality of the building. - A flat roof will make use of ordinary long span aluminum roofing sheet (most preferably 0.5mm gauge and above) which when done properly will last for a very long time, any changes in the appearance of the roofing sheet will have no effect on the look of the building since they are hidden by the parapet wall 3. The flat roof with low pitch and parapet wall is easier to construct than high pitch roof with stone coated roofing sheet 4. The flat roof with parapet is also easier and cheaper to maintain than high pitch stone coated roofing sheet - The high pitch roof is harder and riskier to climbed during repair since the slope of the roof is steep and such can cause slippage easily compared to roof with relative gentle slope For example, It will cost us about 800k plus for the wood, roofing sheet, accessories, logistics and workmanship to do the roof of this building below, While a similar building with high pitch and stone coated roofing sheet will cost about 3million naira |

Preparation for the casting of the foundation: For this foundation, we have the following concreting information 1. Concrete anticipated strength: M25 ( strength of 25/mm2 after 21days) 2. Depth of pad footing is 450mm 3. Size of the coarse aggregates ( gravel/granite) is 19.5mm 4. Sharp sand free clay and dust 5. very sharp stone dust 6. Concrete mixer 7. Poker vibrating machine Batching method, we batch using 7 portions of granite, 2 portions of stone dust and 2 portions of sharp sand for one bag of cement water to cement ratio of 0.55

Placement of foundation pad footings and columns starting bar: The reinforcement for the pad footings is 16mm. The main reinforcement for the starting bar is Y16 (16mm in diameter) while the stirrup or ring is Y10 (10mm in diameter). The spacing for the isolated pad base is 200mm center to center only at the bottom of the pad base (after placement of concrete cover) The combined footings are reinforced with both bottom and top reinforcement all spaced at 175mm c/c. The columns are made up of 4 vertical bars (as the main bars) and rings spaced at 200mm c/c at regular intervals, leaving an allowance of 1000m ontop for continuation columns.
|
Starting with excavation check on the already excavated foundation: The foundation was excavated to the required depth by the estate responsible for setting out, but checks were carried out to verify the depth and width specified by the estate. The design provides the following foundation information; 1. width of the strip footings is 675mm and depth of not less than 1000mm 2. The width of the isolated pad footing were 1500 x 1500 and depth of not less than 1200mm 3. The width of the combined footings were 1750 x 1500 and depth of not less than 1200mm 4. There were 14 isolated pad base footings and 3 combined base footings. The excavation was checked and all adequate corrections were made to suit our work plan before commencement of blinding and subsequently placing of reinforcement |
Harney project structure brings to you the construction of this beautiful five bedroom duplex with a penthouse. The building is going to be sitting on a 450sqm of land (15m x 30m) Duration of project: unknown construction team: Harney project Location of project: Guzape, Asokoro extension Abuja |
spyjoe:I think you should budget about 15m for this type of building |
