Mix ratio for or plastering is 1:1:4

For these plastering work, we will be using the following materials
1 . ordinary Portland cement
2 . plaster sand
3. Sharp sand

This is for the benefit of those who may reason along with Rilwon.

There is no where God command man to rape or disrespect women in such ways in the Bible. I think that is the biggest mistake and problem with what we do and call mat or raft foundation.

Raft foundation always come with a basement if done properly because the beam and slab construction need to be monolithic (i.e both cast at the same time). The strong soil strata good enough to support the weight of the building will not that close to the surface of the soil.

Here are some basic fact about raft foundation.
It is a former of footing like isolated pad, combine or continuous footing that cover the entire building, it can be a simple slab without any beam (flat slab raft), it can be with beam upstand beams (where the beams are projecting upward from the slab, it can also be a downward beam slab raft (where the beams are projecting downward).

Common mistakes made with our downward beam slab raft are
. The beam are founded on very loose soil without adequate bearing capacity.

The foundation is refill and the slab is founded on filled soil instead of on an undisturbed soil strata

The connection between the beam and the slab are not monolithic because of been cast differently

The slab detailing is poorly down because in raft slab the main reinforcement should be on top at the center while bottom at the support.

I have an ongoing project where the first building(bungalow) in that project were supervised by the relatives of the client,from inception to completion the total sum spent for area boys was 500k by the relatives and the ongoing project handled by me from foundation to finishes the client has spent only 80k for the area boys.
The client is still amazed at the margin.

Excavations are charged based on partitions not meters (1 partition is 3.6m (12 feet)). It might depend on location o. For the DPC, 4" is 100mm not 1000mm.

Block work of about 1,800blocks, 50bags of cement and 5trip of sharp sand= N N500,000
Lintel, head beam = N250,000

Assuming a solid soil of bearing capacity above 150kN/m2

Assuming water level is below 2m
The following estimate should work well

Foundation:
Setting out : N20,000

Excavation of foundation with a linear measurement of 81m and Excavation rate of N600/m = N 48,600

Strip foundation of about 150mm to 225mm thick, you will need about N50bags of cement, 15tonnes of gravel and 3trips of sand. = N240,000

Foundation block wall, about 1000 blocks of 9'' block, 20bags of cement for mortar and 2trip of sharp sand = N265,000

Filling depend on site conditions... Wise thing to do is to dig your soak away and septic tank then use the sand to fill the foundation.

Dpc of about 1000mm (4'') and a mix ratio of 1:3:6
About 60bags of cement, 15tonnes of gravel and 3trips of sand = N250,000

For the stone coated roofing tiles, we use shingles type of good quality with relatively moderate price.
The client and I use nairaland platform to get a very good and reliable supplier.
The supplier is here on nairaland and goes by the name Donald stone coated roofing sheet.
Price of square meters = N2,400

We just completed the installation of the stone coated roofing sheet today...

It has really been great working on the job so far. We are still on course to deliver a simple and very meet finished as it is in the three dimensional drawing

The clay one or polystyrene one is just a different type of reinforced concrete slab.

What we do in that type of rib slab, we just substitute some concrete section that don't really serve any structural purpose.

In that rib slab we reduce cost of the slab by introducing either clay block or polystyrene former. But such building has to be design from conceptual stage as rib slab and all the floor walls has to be positioned on the either rib beam or edge beams.

3.2 million naira ! Any builder that charges that much is either a thief or he is simply incompetent. Nigerian builders are fond of overloading a building. The building in question is fortified with extra columns. All I need is a surface that will serve as upper floor. The British used to build 3 story houses with wooden upper floors. There is absolutely no need to load an upper floor decking with steel rods.

It could be done with that amount. I just seek a builder with the same vision as me. You guys should learn to think outside the box. Avoid building collapse through unnecessary overloading.

'I laugh when I hear people say "Nigerian builder a fond of overloading a building" I don't think you really understand the generic of reinforced concrete structures. They don't over load building but build according to lay down rules/codes.

You just don't suddenly start thinking out of box after the building foundation and ground floor has been done. Prior to construction you carried out all your analysis and decide on what building materials to use, either wood, steel or reinforced concrete.

Wood deck is not popular outside South west (in the sixties) because of lack of standardization and adequate properties of the wood.

How do you design wood deck when you don't have wood structural properties like stresses, shear, deflection etc.

Steel deck is not popular because of cost

Reinforced concrete deck and suspended floor slab is the most popular among the three due of durability and lower cost

I'm just a curious novice here, my question: what difference does it make when you raise the pilers first before laying the blocks and laying the blocks first before pouring the pilers concrete between the blocks.
I'd also love to know the cost estimate o. This structure from foundation to roofing stage.

The major difference is that raising pillars/columns is the correct ways to build column in a frame structure in high rise building. The columns get good vibration and adequate curing when the Formwork is removed.
But it is more expensive with the Formwork and workmanship for carpentry works.
You will also need to use a binder to bind the column to adjoining partitions wall.

Laying blocks before Formwork save you a lot of cost since Formwork is reduced greatly and as well as workmanship. This method is good for a low rise building one to three suspended floors. But when structural integrity and strength is the overriding factors in the construction, this method fall short because of the following
1 . Proper vibration is not possible.
2. Columns don't get adequate curing hence proper strength not achieve
3 . difficult to actualized the design dimensions etc
