I remember when Super Eagles where begging rich Nigerians that promised them cash gifts to pay-up long after their nations cup victory in 2013. Many rich folks just made empty promises to jump on the trending train but had no intention to redeem their pledge.

Most Nigerians that make promises when issues are trending, lose interest the moment the folks they made offers to are no longer in the public's consciousness. Those guys were delusional if they thought the Pastor would continue to pay for their fees in perpetuity when he is not Santa clause. They should have collected the cash(equivalent to promised scholarship), then learn a trade and start a business with the payment, when they were still hot cake and trending.

Genius capitalist move. They probably stockpiled lots of Petrol before the price hike. They would eventually raise prices after they have frustrated their competitors out of business.

Below is what real MIT graduating looks like.

Politics › Can Subsidy Removal Crash The Nigerian Economy? by abhosts(op): 1:19pm On May 31, 2023
Many Nigerians have now realized how Petrol is intrinsically linked to every facet of the economy. Poor and unreliable public power supply makes most poor and middle-class Nigerians rely on petrol generators to carry out their daily tasks that require electricity.

Removing Petrol Subsidy without a viable alternative on ground, could spell doom for the Nigerian Economy. Telling suffering Nigerians to trust corrupt politicians and saying that savings made from subsidy removal would be invested into Infrastructure and Jobs would simply not fly.

It is really surprising that none of the top Presidential Aspirants brought forth any well articulated multi-pronged plan regarding subsidy removal. Even the much taunted Peter Obi repeated the stance of Buhari(Before he became President) that subsidy was a scam and would be ended immediately.

It would be wise if the government suspends the subsidy removal and embarks on national drive to create a viable alternative for the masses. Removing all import duty on all equipment and hardware linked to renewable sources of energy would be a good start. When solar panels and batteries are affordable for most Nigerian, the reliance on petrol would be greatly reduced.

Diesel cost should be a good indicator.

Deregulated AGO(Diesel) current costs ₦650 per litre so PMS(Petrol) should be somewhere in that range.

Here is how it works in a democracy:

Ask all Nigerians if the quality of their lives is better or worse after 8 years of Buhari's Presidency. The majority response would determine if Buhari was successful. It is not by writing embellished essays.

I bought dollar @ ₦780 on Friday.

So what magic do you want new President to perform about weak Naira? Does he have a dollar-printing machine?

His only realistic approach would be to convince multinational oil companies to increase their investments in Nigeria to raise our oil production to about 3m barrels per day. But even this option would take a few years to achieve.

Here are my predictions:

Stamp duty and other Taxes would be hiked to keep up with Buhari's debt repayments.

Dollar exchange rate would be around ₦1500 in 2 years time.

Shetima would be the most powerful Vice President since Idiagbon.

By this time next year, Nigerians would be paying between ₦500-₦800 for a litre of Petrol.

Government would go after online platforms like Nairaland and Twitter.

New CBN Governor would remove Banking restrictions against Crypto Currency.

Government would continue to pay lip service against bandits.

Insecurity may worsen in North and South East.

New Government would make lots of investment in Renewable Energy.

New Government would go after outspoken Pastors.

Osinbajo would play a role in new Government.

Fashola would be a Shining Star in new Government.

ASUU would finally become autonomous and Nigerian Universities would hike tuition so they can fund themselves.

Atiku would fade away from the public consciousness and Peter Obi would become the face of the Opposition.
Politics › Re: Will Dangote Refinery Reduce The Cost Of Petrol? by abhosts(m): 12:40pm On May 23, 2023
People need to understand that situating a Refinery in Nigeria does not necessarily make its refined products cheaper than refined products produced in an Indian Refinery.

Other factors like electricity cost and general costs of doing business in a country would weigh in . Dangote cement is cheaper in other African countries because they have better climates for business than Nigeria. Many Nigerian manufacturers switched to importation because their products made in Nigeria could not compete with China-made products even after paying for shipping and import duty. So Dangote Refinery may save the country some foreign currency, but it is unlikely to be cheaper than imported refined products.

Lol. APC of the past 8 years values party loyalty over competence. So expect someone like Ganduje or El rufai as head of economic team.
