Well said.
@ bolded above, how is it over - regulated?
Seems u work or have someone close in d aviation sector.

BTW may God help them.
A lesson I picked, ensure you are properly prepared for a task/project b4 announcement /engaging the public.
Between 2003 and 2006 Nigeria witnessed a number of plane crashes which led the then president to engage Dr. Harold Demuren as DG of NCAA. When he came on board he introduced massive reforms in the sector to improve safety and leave no stone untouched. He also turned NCAA into a kind of training/knowledge centre with its employees being trained and re-trained all the time. The NCAA act was also amended in 2006 to legitimise these reforms thus making it difficult for successive DGs to change. This resulted in an over-regulated aviation sector that made it very difficult to even secure an AOC to start an airline business. Then Nigeria had many one-aircraft airline but that changed . These reforms made the skies safer but also made
It difficult to penetrate and survive in the industry as cutting corners come at a huge cost. That is one side to it.
Another side to it is that FAAN generates most of its revenue from Lagos and Abuja airports. When they get this cash they use it to cater for 22 other airports across the country thus all the airports end up being underfunded with no money for expansion, replacement of equipments and procurement of enough equipments to Match the traffic. With this in mind it becomes very difficult to avoid flight delays as an operator if you’re maximising your aircraft usage. For instance when it rains in yola planes are unable to land because the airport has no navigational equipment as a result the flight is delayed till the weather clears. With the same aircraft booked for 5 more trips on that day all 5 flights will be delayed.
Then you also have this belief that aviation is elitist with the airlines being charged by multiple aviation agencies and service providers . When you buy a ticket look at the tax and charge component that makes up the total fare . Makes it difficult to operate profitably at even 20k per trip. You also have the dollar scarcity problem, insurance problems , issues with lessor and many others. All these factors have made it difficult to operate an airline in Nigeria. The few that are in operation are struggling.

O no
This is not gonna be funny. In this economy, with hopes raised so high and travel plans already in place,
What if there isn't any program that would warrant a traveler to book in August?

Thats how I lost one arik flight from kano to lagos one certain period like that. No refund, no flight. Arik stopped flying to kano.

God help Green Africa. All d best to them
I commented on this airline's promises about a month or two ago and some contributors bashed my comments from a tribal prism. I pay less attention to media hype thus I still prefer arik & air peace despite their shortcomings. First they lied to the public that they had ordered 50 A220s in 2019 . I logged into the airbus order book and saw nothing like that. Somebody was quoting media release from newspapers. Then they went to lease 3 ATR72-600 from south africa and started selling seats for as low as NGN16,500 without a valid Air Operator Certificate (AOC). There first flight is supposed to be in 5 days but they are still yet to secure an AOC.

If you follow the NCAA guideline you'll find that an AOC is one of the toughest certificates to get. NCAA doesn't care about what is at stake to airline/customers. All they care about is meeting the stringent requirements. Discovery air went as far as buying three aircrafts in 2013/2014 but was not able to secure an AOC for a long time. When it eventually did it was already bankrupt and collapsed shortly after.

Airpeace in 2013/2014 bought and parked down 7 aircrafts for up to one year struggling to secure an AOC while spending money on staff, aircraft maintenance and many charges. To even give you an insight they recently purchased a set of new aircrafts (one delivered in January 2021, another in march and another yesterday). They have not yet received NCAA approval to deploy these planes into service . They have flown these planes empty across multiple cities burning fuel with no revenue to demonstrate to NCAA that they are capable. On the engineering side NCAA is also grilling them while they are burning cash. Adding big names in US aviation to your board room and selling tickets for NGN16,000 is far from the realities of aviation in Nigeria. Richard branson of virgin atlantic failed in Nigeria despite all the concessions FG granted him. The Nigerian aviation sector is over-regulated and soon the financiers of green africa will be frustrated out of the market. You need more than money and knowledge to survive in that sector.

You don’t like to hear the truth. How can I be jealous of akwa ibom airline that is basically based in Lagos operating all its flights from Lagos. They can’t even buy an aircraft of $100 million and come out to lie to the public that they bought a new A220. Keep lying to others not me. Congrats to toplop. Please guys, In addition to waiting and praying, if anyone has applied for a visa and still awaiting the outcome of the application and he/she thinks it is taking longer than normal, please be encouraged to send the South African High Commisson a constructive and polite email "EVERYDAY" and "VERY EARLY IN MORNING" possibly around 8am Naija time "UNTIL" you receive the outcome of your visa. From experience, doing that could also fast track the processing. SA visa application for Naija don dey gradually become "winners never quit and quitters never win". Good luck!!
The question should be why are applications being delayed ? I had to wait 7 weeks to get my passport back and I wasn’t happy about that. All enquires made were greeted with just pray about it which for me is not a prayer point. On Saturday the NIS officer that stamped me out of Lagos airport told me about how difficult it had become to secure an SA visa recently. On arrival at OR Tambo yesterday was granted one month stay but will be here for less than a week . The weather is a bit cold particularly at evenings but the government of SA needs to understand that most of us are only coming to do one or two things legitimate activities and leave long before the timeline granted to us. Not cool going through such documentation and wait times

They don't have the capacity to do that, Airpeace are also expecting almost 20 aircraft from Amber Brazil to add to what they already have, I think they have like 40+ Aircraft presently

Ibom Air don't have up to 8 or 10 Aircraft, so how are they going to do that
Was about asking the poster same. Airpeace has a much broader reach and are a force in Nigerian aviation. Air peace owns its aircrafts and its not like they are sleeping . They are expecting 11 more aircrafts from embraer and 10 from Boeing over the next 3 -4 years. They’ve secured AOcs in Ghana , Gambia , Senegal , Sierra Leone , Liberia , South Africa and UAE. They are likely to get AOC for india and China this year. They’ve got land for a hanger at Lagos airport . They seem to be lobbying to partner with embraer to build something in Nigeria. With many other things they have in plan that we may not know . Posts like this make the assumption that airpeace is sleeping while ibom is awake and working.

Have you heard the term Wet lease?
It's allowed in aviation even among big names.
I know and no harm in announcing a lease arrangement as a lease arrangement instead of masking it as an acquisition and also crowning self as the first this and that . Ibom is a good performing airline and I believe they’ll get to the point of acquiring soon. They don’t need all these false media releases

Ibom air will get their own A220 end of next year.
Airbus order book is open to the public . Till date ibom air has made no firm orders. Most of these statements are for the media. Months before now the government used the word acquisition only for them to end up leasing. A year or two ago a start up airline also made a similar claim of ordering 50 A220’s and I commented on the post after going through the Airbus order book. Today that airline is operating or about to operate 3 ATR72-600 leased from a South African leasing company. The only Nigerian airline with firm aircraft orders today is airpeace and may be a private jet operator. They ordered from embraer and the delivery has started . They also ordered 737s from Boeing then mentioned that delivery will start in 2024. Media hype doesn’t get the job done . An A220 cost between $80-$100 million. Can ibom state government make such a purchase with all their obligations as a state government ? Aviation is not cheap

We all know they were leased. Nobody is lying to anyone. The facts are online. The point is Ibomair is making sound progress. There are some businesses like the printing press where purchase of fairly used machines still gives excellent results. Start from somewhere
Ibom air is excellent especially in the area of on-time performance . But the media release has always painted the lease arrangement as outright acquisition of new aircrafts which I later found to be false by checking reg number of each of their aircrafts on planspotter database. It’s used to create the impression that the govt is investing heavily in aviation which is far from the truth

I don’t know why promoters of ibom air are fund of lying to the public . As far as we all know airpeace is the only airline that has bought a new aircraft in the last 10 years . Ibom air leased five 7-10 year old crj900s but told the public they bought those planes . Now they’ve leased 2 A220s from air Sinai but also lying to the public that they’ve acquired an A220. Misinforming the public is uncalled for . At the end of the tenure the people will realise that ibom air doesn’t own any of those planes and will have to continue meeting its financial obligation to lessors .

The first of the new aircraft with registration mark: SU-GFD touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport at 18:15 local time while the second SU-GFA is still expected as it is said to be airborne

The aircraft leased from Egypt Air are anticipated to be game changers as they would strengthen the airline’s fleet for route expansion and bring its size to seven (7).

A source had told Nigerian FLIGHTDECK that Ibom Air had been suffering lack of capacity that the CRJs been good buys, but people are struggling to get seats on the airline’s flights but with the A220s and their great operating costs it is almost same as the CRJs but with much better operating economics and better capacity.

The two A220-300s once operated by EgyptAir’s purpose-built subsidiary for Tel Aviv Ben Gurion flights, Air Sinai are both an average of 1.6-year-old aircraft bought just before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the globe.

South Africa seems to be one of those countries that uses perception in deciding whether to grant an applicant a visa or not . While travel history is not a requirement those visa officers may be of the perception that you want to visit and remain in their country beyond the approved period. You can improve your chance of positive outcome by showing that you have a job/stable income, travel history and a plan of what you intend to do in South Africa. This plan should be stated in an introduction letter.
Ordinarily you don’t need to go to this length but since you are encountering difficulties in getting your application approved you could try that.

TravelRe: Breaking News Green Africa Airways About To Relegate Airpeace by abnot: 3:08pm On May 30, 2021
johnmartus:
This is an exciting and rewarding time for flight passengers in the Nigerian aviation sector, as airlines have begun to slash airfares from Lagos to Abuja, Port-Harcourt, Ilorin, and Owerri.

In what appears to be a reaction to Nairametrics‘ report, which found that airfares to the cities listed above rose by 100%, some airlines have now slashed their fares to these destinations and this price slash is being championed by Green Africa, a new entrant in the sector.

Here are the different airfare slashes that the airlines are offering their existing and potential passengers.

Green Africa Airways
Though the Nigerian start-up airline won’t begin its flight operations earlier than June 24, 2021, it has started selling tickets to passengers.

Contrary to the projections of some experts, who had said that airlines would not reduce fares due to some operational challenges, Green Africa broke the jinx as it slashed its prices by over 50%. For instance, its airfares for Lagos and Abuja and vice-versa are between N16,500 and N23,000.

The airline, which primarily focuses on six domestic destinations, including Abuja, Port Harcourt, Akure, Ilorin, Enugu and Owerri, charged N16,500 from Lagos to Port Harcourt, while others charged about N60,000 in April. Flights to Akure, Ondo and Ilorin, which used to be around N50,000 in April, were fixed at N16,500 respectively.

These are the lowest fares in the industry when compared to current prices charged by other airlines operating in the country.

Air Peace
Air Peace Airline, which is the acclaimed biggest airline in the country, has also reduced its fares across some destinations like Ilorin, and Abuja, just to mention a few.

For instance, the airline slashed the airfare from Lagos to Ilorin (flight operations to Ilorin are slated to commence in June 2021) from N52,500, which some airlines charged last month, to N32,700.

Also, the fare from Lagos to Abuja has dropped from N60,000 (in April) to between N23,000 and N29,000.

The spokesperson of the airline, Stanley Olisa, said that the airline is set to “kick-off daily Abuja-Ilorin-Abuja and Lagos-Ilorin-Lagos flights on June 17, 2021.

The new route further exemplifies the airline’s unwavering determination to interconnect various cities across Nigeria while filling the gaps in Nigeria’s air travel connectivity. The flying public can start booking on our website and mobile app.”

What you need to know about airfares in the last month
In April, airfares across Nigeria increased by as much as 100%, as recent checks by Nairametrics confirmed. Ticket fares to cities like Port Harcourt, Ilorin, and northern states like Kebbi, Borno, Adamawa and Kano increased by as much as 100%.
Business and student travellers who spoke to Nairametrics about their experiences expressed shock and resentment about the rising cost of airfare in Nigeria, especially as travelling by road continues to be risky due to the activities of bandits and kidnappers.
Air peace is more grounded in the industry. I don’t even believe the naira metrics report because airpeace never reduced any ticket pricing. The aviation regime in Nigeria makes it difficult for any low cost carrier to operate a low cost model so let’s see how it goes. There are companies and individuals that fly only airpeace. They won’t change their stance just like that and mind you airpeace is even introducing more comfortable aircrafts to the market ( Boeing 737 max , Boeing 777 and ERJ 195). The south east (owerri , Enugu , asaba and soon anambra) is basically dominated by airpeace. Unserved routes like kaduna , akure, Ilorin also has their footprints . Politically too the airline works hand in hand wirh authorities as they generate the most income for aviation agencies among the local carriers. It took them 7 years to get here and it looks like they are not sleeping. In Nigerian agip their staff are asked to only fly arik & airpeace . There are many other companies that have such policies. There are a wide pool of travel agents partnering with them. You need more than cheaper tickets to muscle them out

2. For how much duration.
3. Should I put the money Once or pay into the account small small

5. Should I disregard this account thing or just use gift deed or treasury Bill's.
6. If I want to through no 5 route how do I go about it.
Sorry for the numerous questions
I’ve read about situations where questions are raised over sudden large deposits without a traceable source. Thus I’ll suggest you either place the funds in a fixed deposit or save up monthly. Assuming you get an ITA in July you can apply in September.
On another note the visa fee, result verification fee and language test fees are all investments you’re making to secure a second residence permit (Canada) thus endeavour not to see placing $10,000 in a low yield account as a loss

In 2013, I was issued a fine of overstay of 1500Rand on my way back to Nigeria. But I didn’t bother paying the fine till date. My question is, can I still pay the fine today? ( please note that I was robbed 2015 here in Nigeria so I don’t have the passport anymore).

Secondly, applying for another country’s permanent residency, will this affect me since I have not paid the fine. I do want to pay the fine now but I don’t know where exactly I should.

Also, is there a clause that says if you don't pay a fine, you're automatically be ban for a number of years? This is because someone advised that I don't need to pay again since it’s more than 5years.
Call them up and ask but not a good act on your part. High rate of visa overstay by Nigerians has helped promote the narrative that Nigerians are lawless people. Over time genuine visitors with the Nigerian citizenship have their applications denied. You also refused paying the fine.

na so e happen well am back to lag, but my people there no want me to come back
Rejections come under many reasons. South Africa isn’t that open to Nigeria/Nigerians. When I applied recently the hotel cancelled my reservation after two days without notifying me but visa still got issued . I don’t think they verify these bookings

God have mercy but you never close your thread requesting about SA permanent residency Sir undecided .

Somewhat strange.
The fact that he’s there doesn’t necessarily change the facts he has pointed out.
