JohnBullMySon:Charity begins at home . If a local airline connects anambra to China and UAE successfully anambra airport will get on their radar. In addition if the facilities are top notch compared to what is in Enugu with favourable charges the airport will boom. |
JohnBullMySon:No harm in asking. Cheers .. |
AsomughaChuks05:They won’t shut down Enugu but I like the diplomatic approach of obiano. He is in the opposition but plays opposition politics in a gentleman-like manner even in though many condemned him and called him a slave. Same thing with Allen Onyema of airpeace . He lobbies and is now a major stakeholder in the sector . |
leicestercamper:Good . Because decisions like this (if true ) can even push the state governments to fund secessionist movements |
Can someone verify the authenticity of this ? Hope not true as it will reduce the moral of obiano and team
|
iamkingrobert:10 weeks to process a visit visa. Nigeria had better not participate in this ACFTA as it will be a fraud against Nigeria. Humans still can’t move freely within Africa yet countries like USA process applications from Nigeria under one week and 14 days for U.K. and most EU nationals. |
imaxdocuments:You cannot tell me my state of origin when you don’t even know me or my name. You are living in the past. Air France pulled out of PH in March 2019 And as a fly blue member they sent me an email to that effect. If you are interested go and watch the session between Wike’s team and Ethiopian management in Addis Ababa where the chief commercial officer of Ethiopian mentioned that the average load factor on the being 737 from PH is 40%. If Turkish and Lufthansa are able to fill up their planes from port harcourt why do they both stop at Abuja to fill up their seats ? I cannot argue with you further on this . I am not one of those who will see something not doing well and say otherwise because it’s my state of origin. Since you cannot engage on an issue without attacking my person you can continue with others. I |
imaxdocuments:I am from rivers state and visit there very often. Aviation is not viable in rivers state. Turkish air, Lufthansa and air France have never been able to fill up their flights from port harcourt . The cargo volume processed is below expectation (right from pre-covid days ) Airlines merge PH passengers with passengers from Abuja. At some point Air France and virgin Atlantic pulled out. Wike went to Addis Ababa with his team promising heaven and earth using this “third busiest” word . Ethiopian downgraded the equipment on that route from 787 to 737. Even that was not a success. I don’t need to be in anambra to know where anambra stands in the midst of Abuja and Lagos. On the political side there are challenges that may come up as aviation is one of the items on FG exclusive list . I can only be cautiously optimistic about the project . That does not mean I hate it as it has no effect or influence on me . |
FOXDOSSIER:My comment was strictly issue based . But you are now personalising things. How can I envy anambra ? Of what benefit is it to me ? Lagos and Abuja are miles ahead of anambra in aviation and that is the fact. It is not my doing . Don’t lash me over it . I’ve never even been to anambra. And for your information third position in Nigeria means nothing as Lagos/Abuja are not even performing as well as airports in Nairobi, Addis Ababa , Cairo & j’burg . We see your type every now and then who get annoyed easily upon hearing the truth |
Rocksvibes234:In governance and diplomacy you don’t expect the minister to say otherwise. 60-70% of trade in Nigeria takes place in the southwest . Most corporate organisations are based in Lagos . The seaport is in Lagos . Outside Abuja, Lagos has the highest number of government agencies with many other factors which make aviation viable in Lagos. Even as rundown as the airport/terminal buildings of the Lagos airport are , the market is there. Ibom air told there world they were building a hub out of uyo but today most of their flights depart out of Lagos .United Nigeria said same thing about building a hub out of Enugu but they have more flights out of Lagos. That’s what I mean by viability . Building a hub out of anambra is very possible but requires some strategic investments and development. Unfortunately the Nigerian man is wired to go after quick cash thus the Allen Onyemas and co will come and say they want to build an MRO at anambra in the daytime while at night he has been lobbying the FG to allocate land to him in Lagos for a maintenance hanger. A few weeks ago he told the press his company has been allocated land at Lagos airport for maintenance. Until then the investors in aviation will continue to crowd Abuja and Lagos . |
Faithful007:You spoke my mind. We are all shouting resource control yet if FAAN asks every airport to sustain itself only Abuja and Lagos airports will survive. One of the reasons lagos airport is Wack is because revenue surplus from there is used to finance other unprofitable airports. State governments are just going all over the place building airports and asking for international flights. The minister of aviation has said he has many applications from foreign based airlines to operate into Lagos airport. When he suggests Kano or Enugu to them due to the congestion of Lagos airport they take a step back. In west Africa Lagos airport still generates the highest traffic . Someone told me two years ago that emirates , British airways and Lufthansa were anxiously waiting to operate into Enugu. I’m still waiting |
Hunchogee:And also stop spreading lies for your paymasters . You can’t deceive some of us by lying with two nairaland profiles. Not everyone is gullible . |
Hunchogee:Those are lease companies known globally for leasing aircrafts. The LSD is a short for for lease. You are very ignorant but using rude words such as “nonsense” to prove a baseless point. Since you have access to the purchase details how much does it say the aircrafts were purchased for ? Go and check your facts and stop dragging me into this. I don’t engage with mentally lazy individuals . |
rvp2018:That’s what the airline operators have been pushing for but it seems the government and the airline operators are permanently at variance with each other . This is just aviation when you take a look at other sectors you’ll also see a myriad of problems . All these contribute to the underperforming economy, poor infrastructure and the general shithole narrative. |
Hunchogee:Bought from which company ? Those aircrafts were leased . If your government lied to you go and check the records. In Aviation, some databases are available to the public. And also check the age of those embraer planes you made reference to instead of displaying hate here. There is nothing bad in leasing an aircraft it doesn’t make you less as an airline. Even Ethiopian leased some aircrafts in their fleet . |
rvp2018:Yes it’s tough to operate cheaply here as there are a number of agencies that rely on revenue from air passengers for their funding which makes aviation somewhat elitist in Nigeria |
NkanAkpanika:Im. For your information in aviation the records are there for every one . If those embraers are 8 years old and global aviation databases have them on record as 3 months old then one must wonder where you got your information from aside the usual hate. If you are interested go and check the records of ibom lease deal. Even the COO of ibom has made reference to their obligations to lessors at different forums so I don’t know where you get your info from except you’re just here to throw insults . Ibom leased three of those aircrafts from Avmax aircraft leasing company and the other two from falko regional leasing under a dry lease agreement .

rvp2018:There is a startup called green africa that is promising to offer cheap commute across the country using the fuel efficient ATR72-600. I believe that will bring down prices however the multiple charges to aviation agencies on each flight ticket issued in Nigerian may make lowcost travel a wishful thinking |
rvp2018:I dont want to totally right off nigerian airlines because upper middle class Nigerians are mobile and travel a lot. Also the population is large and the geographical position of Nigeria is good for aviation but the airlines are weakly capitalised as a result they cannot afford to buy modern efficient aircrafts. But I feel for some of the operators too. They borrow at 24% interest rate, they cannot lease, they operate at very ancient airports with poor infrastructure, they source for dollars on the streets, the pay huge premiums on insurance (due to thetype of aircrafts they operate ), they ferry aircrafts to MROs in europe, the unions are harsh towards them, the government is harsh towards them and so many other things working against them. Its as a result of these factors I don't want to bash them because as it is the foreign airlines will continue to dominate the nigerian market if all these issues are not resolved. But if these things are resolved some Nigerian airlines will stand a chance in the near future. As for airpeace I've been frustrated by poor performance in area of punctuality and also disappointed that they made many mistakes other airlines previously made. However looking at the investments they are making I don't want to bash them too much. Even richard branson or delta (with their huge capital base) wont make that kind of investment in Nigerian aviation of today knowing the myriad of problems in the sector. It is for this reason that I try not drag them based on their many shortcomings (poor timing, poor customer service, unprofessionalism and others). I want at least two or three Nigerian airlines to do well in Africa. The klm partnership was very expensive and while it helped them on one hand it also eroded their finances on another hand. The best bet for africans is to do things rights. No european or asian country will do it well for us without a heavy price |
rvp2018:Lol KQ is way ahead of airpeace but since KQ is losing steam and airpeace is growing the dynamics may change a few years from now. The weak position of many Nigerian airlines is a reflection of the harsh environment they operate in. But for now KQ is still top 5 in Africa though I must admit they are likely to continue losing their share of the market as airlines are coming up . In east Africa air Tanzania, rwandair and Uganda airlines are gradually taking control of their local markets and you have the might Ethiopian growing aggressively . In west Africa if Two or three Nigerian airlines succeed nobody will want to transit through east Africa |
Hunchogee:I’m sure every operator wants to fly a new aircraft but it’s expensive and unaffordable. In addition most of these operators want to make quick money out of aviation and close shop afterwards. Regarding ibomair it’s a state funded airline and they leased those regional jets . They didn’t buy them. Akwa ibom tax payers are contributing towards the lease. At the moment it is difficult for Nigerian airlines to lease (dry lease ) an aircraft as they’ve been kind of black listed. These are some of the challenges they face. Each of those airplanes Allen Onyema bought from Brazil cost $60 million whereas this 22 year old one cost $2million. In 18 months time the 22 year old one will go for c-check and cally air will spend $3 million dollars on repairs . Most operators will dump the aircraft and pick another cheap one for $2 million . After doing that twice or thrice they exit the business |
Belle35:Ontario had a tech draw this morning for those with CRS 456 to 467 |
sophxx:He was a contractor at the amnesty program and also got lots of contracts from the IOCs . IOCs were using him to get the boys off their facilities and in return paid millions of dollars to his NGOs . But I don’t believe he was a poor man before these contracts came however everyone looks for opportunities to make money and I’m sure if he left his cash in treasury bills and landed properties it would have appreciated with nobody criticising him. Truth is people will always criticise you no matter what you do. They started criticising this man as far back as 2013/2014 when he bought those cheap old planes (737 classics). Many people started this business with cheap old planes and shut down within a few years . Even the almighty arik that started with new aircrafts would have collapsed if not for AMCON. So I don’t see why anyone will give money to someone to setup and manage an airline in Nigeria where airlines die after max 5 - 7 years . There are many other more lucrative and more profitable businesses |
Ammishaddai:They and arik have a good safety record. In fact if arik had compromised safety they’d have been more capitalised than they are today . I believe the ground back up engine (APU ) broke down that day that’s why the AC’s didn’t work on ground that day. It’s an old aircraft and things break down often on old planes . Since they are replacing these old planes with new ones I don’t think they deserved the kind of image bashing they got. But like I said so many people have been against that company for a longtime and will go to any length to pull them down. That’s why they need to get things right ASAP |
slachtoffers:Well if you want to know the history and information regarding any jet log into planspotter website . |
Ammishaddai:lol that fanning thing was overheated on social media . That company has a lot of interest working against it. Lots of stakeholders will go to any length to rubbish their image so the earlier they resolve all the challenges they going through the better for them. |
rvp2018:I can only make projections but cannot compare KQ with airpeace. KQ is an industry that use to be no 1 in Africa . It has a fully armed MRO, fully armed cargo group , modern fleet ( 8 Dreamliners and a couple of Boeing 737NGs and embraer 190s) along with subsidiary airline Jambi jet and a thriving tourism industry that supports aviation. I recently flew KQ002 to JFK on a Dreamliner . However KQ is fast losing grounds to Ethiopian and KLM partnership will kill KQ faster than Can be imagined . Nothwithstanding I wouldn’t want to bash Airpeace because it’s a private operator ( probably the biggest private operator in Africa ) and is surviving in an environment that is very harsh towards airline operators. They are trying and have good prospects in Africa due to the mobile nature of Nigerians, location of Nigeria and absence of a strong airline in west Africa . I believe Airpeace can compete with asky and air Côte d’Ivoire if Nigerian government protects them from the hostilities of the francophone governments. As for KQ they’ll eventually go the way of SAA as other East African countries are launching their airlines ( Uganda , air Tanzania, Rwandair and the giant Ethiopian) |
Limassol:We'll both agree that ghanians enjoy cheaper and stable power supply than Nigerians on one hand and the average ghanian city (accra, kumasi ) is safer than the average nigerian city. In the area of economic strength, output and prosperity Ghanians/Ghana is no match to Nigeria. Nigerian cities are more developed than Ghanian cities (Accra is the most developed Ghanian city). The reason I'm emphasizing this is that prior to 2015 I had been to cities in europe , north america and two middle eastern cities and I was hearingso much about how nigeria was a shithole and how ghana was everything that Nigeria was not. Then 2015 came with my girlfriend moving to accra. I made many trips there and was disappointed probably because my expectations were high. I later got a job in 2016 that got travelling to banjul, monrovia, accra, addis ababa, nairobi , j'burg, cotonou, dar es salaam, maputo, luanda and dakar. Of all these cities only nairobi , j'burg and to some extent luanda impressed me. Nigerian cities of Lagos (particularly lagos island) and abuja were far ahead of these cities. In fact the locals in most of these cities still serve the europeans and from the hotel to the gym to the restaurants the locals were more like workers to the white people there. Nigerians own and run most of the businesses in Nigeria. In these countries the white man is still seen and regarded as the alpha & omega. In ethiopia the chinese run the show from sme to the big sectors. This experience made me respect the hardworking Nigerian man/woman more. If Nigeria had a better government the issue of security and power will not even be as pronounced as it is but amidst all these challenges the Nigerian man/woman has built strong enterprises and a much stronger economy than any of the countries in west africa. Look at the area of aviation, ghana has not been able to build both private or national airlines. In nigeria the govt failed in its quest to build a national airline yet nigerian investors built arik, air peace, associated airlines, bristow and now green africa. In the area of banks nigerian banks play a dominant role in ghana with the government constantly squeezing them and threatening their existence. In telecoms Glo is also been squuezed but managing to survive. In ghana african world airline is owned by the chinese and not ghana or ghanians. Down to the sme sector the ghanian investment promotion council recently went round shutting down shops owned by Nigerians as there businesses were performing better than that of the ghanians. I can go on and on but I dont subscribe to the notion of seeing nothing good in Nigeria/nigerians aside negativity . Every society or country has its positives and negatives |
When you say Ghana is ahead of Nigeria kindly specify in what areas. It was this same kind of praises I heard and decided to visit Ghana for the first time in 2015. Between then and now I’ve made 5 visits and will liken Accra to a city like port harcourt. Definitely not at par with Lagos and Abuja in terms of development. If a city is quiet and free from the hustle & bustle of another city it doesn’t mean it is ahead. Every city has its pros and cons. It’s just like comparing Mozambique with Angola and saying Mozambique is ahead of Angola |

. It can work on domestic route flying to very dangerous places - where airline can go down for any reason. Fly to Somalia or Chad or Darfur. Actually fly to Maiduguri - and take UN staff feeding the people there...they don't care if they die or live..it part of their job. That is how many airlines in Kenya operate flying to dangerous places.
