, and to think that some mad thinking fools are thinking of banning the use of canes in Lagos. This will be one of the biggest mistakes that the government will make. The youths in the UK have absolutely neither feat nor respect of authority/elder and this is largely due to the lack of discipline in schools. A whole generation has been lost because of the stupid laws/policies by the hopeless PC government. I honestly fear for Nigeria. sad

Politics / Re: It’s Bad To Put Mubarak In Cage – Obasanjo (fear Dey Catch Dem Small Small) by Abuna: 10:14am On Aug 06, 2011
For those of you who think it can't happen in Europe, ask yourselves what happened to Mussolini? Also, how bad is it that some American states still endorse and enforce the death penalty. You see, when the West does it, It's justified but when we do it, It's barbaric. I can assure you that most of the citizen of the UK are clamoring for more drastic form of punishment. As you make your bed so you lie on it. If taking the despot in a cage is how they do it in Egypt so be it.

Someone wrote earlier that we should close our eyes for a minute and picture whether such can happen in Europe. My reply is close your eyes and visualize Mubarak at the height of his power/swagger and not of a deceptive old man.
Education / Re: Lagos State Outlaws Flogging Of Students & Apprentices. by Abuna: 1:50pm On Jul 09, 2011
aikuda:

@Abuna and camaldina,
What are you guys talking about? Do you know how many studenst get frustrated out of school by their teachers? So you think the only way to correct a child is to spank them.

Let me give my experience: When I was living with my uncle as child, I was late to school because as usual his wife wanted me to do so mcuh work ( cooking, sweeping the compound, and ensuring the my uncles children are taken to school etc) in the morning before going to school (as was always the case). On this fateful day, I met this teacher whom we all know smokes indian hemp before coming to school- he was dreaded even by other teachers. The teacher flogged me so hard on my back that my white uniform was all stained with blood. After that he asked me and the others to kneel on a concrete floor under the hot sun. When I got home even my uncle's wife that never normally cared cringed when she saw the marks on my back. Ofcourse she blamed me for going to school late.

Ofcourse, I was late on so many other occasions because of the chores I have to do as a child before going to school daily and got beaten many more times. This example is extreme I know, but there are many people who will tell you different beating episodes they suffered in the hands of teachers. My girl friend had to move to another school because of a school teacher. Not everyone has that luxery.

I can understand what you mean by the low moral standards in the western world, but at the end they are still better, overall, than us. Many white people I know respect others. but they also know how to fight for their right. It is wrong for teachers to be beating children for whatever reason. Its child abuse.

No, I'm not advocating for child abuse but children need firm boundaries and if its spanking within reason then so be it. Here in the UK, the government is regretting all these 'rights' that have been given to pupils and are looking to pass a bill that will give schools some power to discipline pupils with some sort of reasonable force. We're quick to copy the West! Why? We're totally different from them. The demography is different. There are different races hence it made sense to outlaw it in the West. Just imagine what would happen when a white teacher clots a black pupil. There will be outcry of racism and if and do you honestly think a white parent will accept an African flogging thief wards?

There is complete breakdown down in the moral fibre of the UK society and the is clearly evident in the spate of murders especially amongst black kids. Kids killing kids. Why? Because their parents aren't allowed to discipline them. Sad! Even some white gloat about is saying its good because that way, the blacks would eliminate themselves. What shame! I'm going to rest my fingers now and these are entirely my own personal opinion by the way. Cheers.

Won't exactly say mine was  'lost' in that sense. Let me explain; I lent N1,500:00 to a friend of mine back in 1996 (big money then) and we got on a bus on our way back to campus but got waylaid by some area boys/robbers and my friend said to them to wait and he 'paid' me back the money lent to him that very day! You should see the massive grin on the robbers' faces!

I felt used and duped. What a friend!  angry
TV/Movies / Re: Are Nigerians Pround Of Nollywood Actors & Actresses? by Abuna: 10:31pm On Mar 24, 2011
Desola:

At the OP - Listen, Nollywood is not a representative of Nigeria as it merely shows you the customs and traditions of a fraction an ethnic group known as the Igbos.

Whether you like it or not, you tribalistic Arrow, they represent Nigeria. I can't fathom why ignorant cunts like you can't appreciate and stand other tribes. Lets call a spade a spade, Yoruba films are nowhere near films produced by your so-called 'fraction of an ethnic group'.

The fortunate truth is that your thought and sentiments are irrelevant anyways. Just a waste of my time replying to a LovePeddler like you and your mother!!!

First and foremost, English is not her mother tongue and we all understand what she's trying to communicate. I don't know about Americans but quite a proportion of English people don't even speak the so called correct 'English'. I'm somewhat sure some Americans don't from what I see on tv. This is my own opinion though.

I know you all have you different opinions and you're all entitled to them so fair play. However, I don't remember the British getting visas to come and colonise us. They made their beds so they must lie in them! What is 'common' in the Commonwealth of Nations? Why are black Africans treated that way and other EU Members (East Europeans) are given everything?

We (former colonies) should be closer to the Motherland (Britain) but because we haven't taken care of our countries that's why they treat us this way. Believe me, if our country becomes like Dubai tomorrow, the West will make going to their countries visa free.

That is the way they are. They always want something in return.

I have come to realise that society would expect you to be generous with the truth at all times but they can't handle it! Why don't you go to the Western Embassies and honestly tell them that you want to just come and better your life in their countries?

Poster, take care and console yourself with the poem below. It has worked for many great men including Nelson Mandela.
Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
