Nigerian comedian, Basketmouth is a year older today and Banky W took a walk down the memory lane as he celebrated him on his big day.

Banky W who thanked Basketmouth for being a true friend through his cancer battle wrote; 

Almost a year ago, I was recovering from Cancer surgery in the US. It was a trying time for me.. for weeks I could barely move, I had tubes running out of my back draining blood, I was on so many pain meds and even then EVERYthing still hurt like hell. And one day out of the blue, Basketmouth called me to see how I was doing. He knew I was in the US but I hadn't told him about the surgery. We'd been friends for a long time, so when he sensed something was up, I told him what I was dealing with. Now at the time, he was on tour, while also visiting/caring for his family.. but as soon as he heard the details, he insisted on coming to visit me the next day before flying to Texas. He asked if I needed anything and I said no, but he kept insisting that there must be some groceries in Momsie's house that were finished, or something that I needed from the store that he could bring.

He wouldn't take no for an answer so I said okay, pls bring me a bottle of apple juice. My brother got a friend to drive him almost an hour out of their way, and showed up at the front door with like 3 months worth of apple juice. I kid you not. The bottles were MASSIVE. And then he sat with me for a couple hours, before his flight. We talked, he made me laugh, we compared testimonies and war stories, and just spent time catching up. We encouraged each other, and in a period where almost every day was incredibly painful, rough and downright depressing, he was an unexpected ray of sunshine that made me feel so much better.

So today I want to thank him for being my friend especially when I really needed one. Sometimes, that strong person who everyone leans on, needs someone to lean on too. He's one of the most gifted & accomplished entertainers I've ever met.. but more importantly, he's one of the kindest. May God bless you and reward you for all you do for others. May your back never be weary from the loads you bear. May your children be greater than you are. May the rest of your years be the best of your years. May your show at EKO HOTEL ON THE 29TH AND 30TH OF SEPT BE SOLD OUT. Honoured to call you my friend. Happy birthday bro.

A white Texas police officer who entered an apartment mistaking it for her own and shot dead the black man who lived there was arrested on manslaughter charges.

Officer Amber Guyger with the Dallas Police Department was arrested Sunday and booked into the county jail, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

At the end of her shift and still in uniform, Guyger entered the apartment in a complex near downtown Dallas late Thursday and shot the black man who she thought was an intruder, police said.

Minutes after shooting she called emergency services and told responding officers that she thought she had entered her own apartment.

The victim, an African-American, was identified as Botham Shem Jean, 26, an immigrant from the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia.

Jean had graduated from a private Christian college in the state of Arkansas in 2016 and had since been working at the accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers in Dallas.

According to the Dallas Morning News, Guyger got off on the wrong floor of the building complex and approached an apartment exactly one floor above her own.

The door was unlocked and the lights were off and when Guyger saw a figure moving in the dark she pulled out her pistol and opened fire thinking it was an intruder, the newspaper reported.

Dallas police said that Guyger, 30, has been with the department for four years. Local reports said she was involved in an earlier shooting in May 2017.

The Dallas-Fort Worth NBC affiliate reported that Guyger was released late Sunday on a $300,000 bail.

Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall took the unusual step of handing the case over to the Texas Rangers — a division of the Department of Public Safety — to “eliminate the appearance of any potential bias”, police said in a statement.

“On behalf of the Dallas Police Department, we are continuing to pray for Mr. Jean’s family, and ask that the community remain patient as this investigation is conducted,” Hall said.

Hall, who is African-American, became the city’s first female police chief in September 2017.

Jean’s mother Allison Jean, earlier told NBC News that the incident “feels like a nightmare”.

Her son “was in no wrong place at any wrong time. He was in his sanctuary, in the place where he called home. He didn’t deserve this,” she told NBC.

Excerpts:


PT: Whenever your name is mentioned, the first thing that comes to mind is a man who is always standing up against the federal government.

Wike: No, that’s a misconception. I don’t stand up against the federal government; I stand up against injustice, I stand up against marginalisation. It has nothing to do with you as the federal government. If this government is not in place tomorrow and another government comes in and perpetuates injustice, I will stand up against them.

PT: You mean if it were a PDP government…?

Wike: (Cuts in) …. Of course, go and ask people! Now, let me tell you something. When (goodluck) Jonathan was the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Aminu Tambuwal was not the one that was supported to be the Speaker of the House of Representatives; Mulikat Akande-Adeola from Oyo State was the one PDP proposed and I said ‘Look, we are talking about how to move the country forward’ and I supported Tambuwal then.

PT: Publicly?

Wike: Of course, it was not hidden! Even before Mr. President made me a minister! So, it has nothing to do with whether it is PDP or another political party in government. I have no delight to say because it is APC-led government I must, therefore, stand up against it. No! What is right must be done. What is wrong is wrong and what is right is right!

PT: You have constantly accused your predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, of election-rigging. As one of the pillars that helped him to become governor, it could be assumed that you may have also taught him the art of rigging?

Wike: I admit I am one of those who helped him to win the election. But who is that person who contested against Rotimi Amaechi that would have won the election against him as at that time? People must be realistic in life. Who contested against him that would have won that election at that time? The issue of rigging does not arise. Who would have won the election against him as at that time? Abiye Sekibo? Under ACN? How would ACN have won election in Rivers State as at that time? You must take into consideration that Rivers State has been a PDP state since 1999. For you to say that the election was rigged, you must also know who contested against him. Is there any way ACN would have won election as at that time? Not possible!


PT: Will there ever be peace between you and Rotimi Amaechi?

Wike: I don’t have any problem with him. My concern is in the interest of the state which supersedes the interest of individuals.

PT: Some of the leaders in the PDP complain that you have a strong grip on the party because you are one of its major funders. And they are uncomfortable with it.


Wike: In politics, every governor supports the party. Most leaders support the party. Those who are complaining about me are those who are afraid because they are the agents of APC. We know those PDP presidential aspirants who are agents of PDP. We know them. The presidency and the APC have planted people within our party, and we know it. They planted Modu Sheriff and we fell for it. I bought into it not knowing it was a set-up. And then when we realised, we said no, we have to fight it. And we fought it. I cannot again fall the fool that I became under Ali Modu Sheriff. I know some of our presidential aspirants who are running on the sponsorship of the APC and the presidency.

The Lagos State Police Command has busted a kidnappers' den located at No.15, Irepodun street, Egan, Igando, Lagos, operated by a mother, Aminat Karimu Ajibola, age 60 years and her two sons, Akeem Bashiru, 32 years and Ojo Solomon, 26 years.

A statement released by the state police command spokesperson, CSP Chike Oti, says the family is a deadly bunch of kidnappers who thrives by using the social media to lure out their victims and put them in captivity until a ransom is paid.

The trio met their waterloo when one Ms. Bridget Obazee, approached the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Igando Police station, CSP Taiwo Kasumu at about 4pm on Friday September 7th and complained to him that her brother, one Osahon Obazee, has been missing for days and that the kidnappers were threatening to kill him unless they pay a one million, five hundred thousand Naira ( N1, 500,000.00) ransom. She added that they warned her not to involve the police else her brother will be killed.

The DPO quickly contacted the Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal, who reinforced his team with men drafted from the Intelligence Unit of the Command and together, they left in search of the victim.

Same day, at about 11pm, through discreet investigation, the following suspects were arrested at the aforementioned address, namely, Aminat Kareem Ajibola, a Chief Priestess and custodian of an Ifa shrine, her two sons, Akeem Bashiru and Ojo Solomon.

Also rescued during the operation, were two other victims found in the apartment, namely, Fadugbagbe Akindele, male, of No.7 Peace Crescent Salolo, Meiran, Lagos and one Ekwegbalu Augustine who was lured all the way from Anambra state with the promise of a job placement in an Oil company. They had been held for weeks by the kidnappers pending payment of ransom by their families . All those rescued had been identified and reunited with their relations.

During interrogation, the youngest member of the family of kidnappers, Ojo Solomon confessed that he was able to lure out the victims with the promise of getting them an employment and to some, a gay relationship. While his mother empowers him and his brother spiritually, she uses the charms (Juju) to intimidate and instill fear in their victims.
