Tinfoil: Just because you haven't witnessed it does not mean that Africa does not help itself, there are many who individuals and in societies provide charity. The main problem in South Africa is that it is still suffering from the after shocks of apartheid where its Black citizens were herded into concentration camps, forcefully disposed of their land, raped, murdered,... Which makes them susceptible to AIDS and other poverty induced problems. The time cannot come fast enough when land is appropriated from the white land owing class and redistributed to back to its ancestral Black owners LOL... It's strange that the so-called free and intelligent Africans flood the EU, US, Australia and South Africa in search of a better life. Millions of Africans would rather be refugees in South African slums while begging for petty jobs not even poor South Africans want THAN to be free in their own ancestry land. Your civil wars, starvation and lack of development are a shining example of your intellect. |

Obostone: my brother pls excuse me but u are holucinating. In Africa it prosper or death we can make it pls. Do u know the amount of talent we have that are being employed for bad stuff and by the way u make Ngo's sound like GOD, what natural resource and human resource do their country of origion posses that we do not have. It about priority. We have people with barin and talent but have no power and the people with powers have no idea about how to run this field- PLO Lamumber. Two things a nation has to be disctatoral about is in the area of food production and medicine. No foriegner should be involed if we want to continue killing our self let leave it to others, it a perfect military strategy foriegners can use to low key control a population simple. Dude, spare us the conspiracies. When an African child is starving and has malnutrition, what does Africa do? NOTHING. You keep talking about how much talent Africa has and on, it's useless because Africa is the world's poorest and least progressive content. I say it in your face, your so-called African intellect is a joke. The Western money has saved plenty of African children who would have eventually died while your so-called talent tells you to do nothing.... Bro, you're displaying the same mindset that Thabo Mbeki had and caused South Africa to have 2 million AIDS orphans. |

Tinfoil: Most NGOs would rather have Africa poor and uneducated because if not they would go out of business, rather than build capacity, enabling Africans to help themselves they actively conspire to have them remain poor even though this is mostly unintentional. I can give an in-depth explanation of what I am thinking but don't want to type a multiple page long post. This is a photo and video forum only.
. I have worked with NGOs for many different kinds of projects. The NGOs would either be local or foreign based... In South Africa, foreign NGOs collaborate with the local ones to bring tangible results on the ground. If an NGO builds 20 houses for pensioners in a rural area using local material. How is that tampering with self-sufficiency? Would the pensioners miraculously build their own houses at their age? We have examples with orphans, health (which South Africa gets plenty of), even the city of Pretoria gets some US funding to supply free WiFi to Pretorians... How's that crippling self-sufficiency when they're actually helping the Municipality to deliver a service. In the case of foreign food being supplied to drought victims. Do you honestly think Africa has food in surplus to buy from other parts then supply others. Did you know that even South Africa struggles to supply itself with maize in a case of droughts, how do you think they'll supply the rest of the maize-meal eating SADC facing the same droughts? NGOs operate in Africa in such large numbers because the local governments can't provide even basic services to its citizens. |

Henry24o: I'm glad this whole thing was a propaganda fail. African militaries need to understand that propaganda has a 50% input in the war victory itself.
Releasing statements on paper like the Soviets no longer cut it. This isn't 1970. Even the Russians no longer do that crap, they are now pushing as much military propaganda as the Europeans. Not yet on the level of the Americans though, those guys are playing in a much higher league of their own.
There's a KDF soldier with a giant digital camera, what's he doing with it? Photos should be released atleast on a weekly basis and after engagements with the enemy. No one pushes propaganda like the Russians. |

bendeniceguy: There is a first time for everything. These murderers are already established in North, West, East and Central Africa and are gradually pushing Southwards!! Hoping they go away or fighting them on the cheap is not an option. If the AU cant see or smell the imminent danger of having these a..holes overrunning the continent at this rate, then they (AU) should be disbanded and their responsibilities handed over to to the UN or even better still, to Mr Trump. This is a clear and present danger they cant ignore. Most African countries are too vulnerable to allow these murderous extremists dig-in or fester on for much longer without the AU trying at the very least to rally everybody to the fight. A word they say is enough for the wise. Terror and all kinds of insurgencies are intelligence not military issues. When a country has homegrown terrorism issues it simply means they have no solid intelligence institutions. As for Al-Shabab, they can't go beyond Kenya. Southern Africa is a different region. Islam is rare and state intelligence is on a different level. |

bendeniceguy: Goverments all across Africa must realise that these animals are in this for the long hurl and quit pretending that groups like al shabaab an boko haram will go away by themselves!!! These animals view Africa as easy prey and wont give up until they are overwhelmed by superior force. Methinks the AU should pass a law making it compulsory for African countries to spend atleast 5percent of their GDPs on re-arming and re-equiping their militaries to defend the continent against these wild animals. This is not "gloating" This is REAL. We must quit hoping to fight murderous religious extremist on the cheap Make it compulsory? There's no law under the sun that can make such things compulsory unless the AU could magically fund it to all its members. |

frumentius: Pulling out was a rather stupid decision. Yes the delays at Airbus resulted in a cost escalation, but compare that with what we've been paying since then to charter heavy lift. And of course, it didn't help that someone at MoD confused the life-cycle price with the sale price, and the resulting public outrage was simply too much. Indonesia is paying $2 billion for 5 planes whilst we were going to pay $2.5 billion for 8! At least Denel Aerostructures and the rest of our aeronautical industry are still working on the A400M and earning from it. And Airbus hasn't given up trying to sell it to us. That's why they signed an agreement guaranteeing Airbus dynamic components to support any future Rooivalk MK2. So the nonsense that killed prospective Rooivalk sales to Turkey and Australia will not be repeated. The cancellation came at the time when the Arms Deal inquiry was in the air. The media started to associate this acquisition with the Arms Deal even labeling it the New Arms Deal, they went on about how costly this project was. You know how sensational local media is especially the likes of eTV and of City-Press. Anything the military has to buy nowadays would have to be under the Secrecy Bill or as "skills transfer and job creation". |

frumentius: Don't know about now, but when I was there FARDC Hind crews were not armed, unlike our Rooivalk crews. There was some talk of having them come over here for the SAAF SERE course, but I don't know where that got to. If maybe they had received such training, they could have resisted the capture until the Rooivalks arrived. I think FARDC is too negligent. |

frumentius: More bad news: It now appears that a rebel group, suspected to be M23 remnants who absconded from a camp in Uganda, got to one of the downed Hinds before the Rooivalks and captured 4 crew members still alive. And all along the Ugandan military has been denying that these arseholes escaped. They refused to hand them over and now say they can't find Makenga and about 150 of his men. Ain't the crew armed? |

chkil: depending on what SAM or hostile air space , may against manpads, but i dont think a transport helicopter (big radar cross section, slow ) have any chance against a modern air defense systems ( short, medium, long combined network system) , an old shilka or Tunguska , Pantsir for exemple with it's autocannon can hit him easily from short range . You missed the part where that helicopter is a dedicated EW platform, ie it jams hostile radars and forms of communications (theoretically as I said). Think of it as the EA-18G Growler. |

frumentius: Reading this just reminded me that the mobile EW/COMINT system has not only been installed in CASSPIRS, but also in the Oryx operated by 17 Squadron SAAF.
PIC 1: the latest version after the Project Deer upgrade; PIC 2 & 3: Pre-upgrade; PIC 4: the pre-ugrade EW console. Theoretically you can land that Oryx on top of a hostile SAM. |
