@ Backslider I have read your post. You have to understand that you JUST CANNOT HAVE A HUNDRED PERCENT PUREMAN TO RULE A STATE OR NATION. I hate this argument, so Nigerians deserve less and Atiku should be president since he is not 100% corrupt. OBJ has not performed above pass mark level. If we separate his institutional development from infrastructural developments, you will see that he has not done a lot. THE MONIES ARE STOLEN TRULY BUT THE PEOPLE ARE INVESTING THE MONEY IN NIGERIA. BS. So you would like someone to steal your land, build a factory and employ you as a gateman? [sup]IF YOU KNOW ABOUT THE HISTORY OF GREAT NATIONS THERE WAS FORGIVENESS. Obj has been very clear that he wants a shift but we as the people must TRUST HIM AND OUR SELVES ONE MORE TIME.[/sup] Another junk solution, because trust is what you earn not what you deserve. OBJ has not performed creditably to earn our trust. There can never be forgiveness without justice. Selective prosecution cannot work. I wish you would tell us specifically which great nations forgave those who committed atrocities without adequate compensation to victims. AMERICA DRAINED THE STRENGTH OF AFRICANS AND IS STILL DOING SO. Why are you blaming America for Nigerian problems, so your argument is that it's OK for Nigerian leaders to subject their fellow country men and women to inhuman treatment? White colonialists were wrong, but Nigerians rulers are right. WE HAVE TO KNOW THAT WE MUST LOOK AHEAD AT THE POSITIVES AND CRITICIZE. I we are not supermen we are humans we will make mistakes but we should not DWELL in our mistakes. I will say this that Obasanjo has done mistake but he has made great progress. I wonder what you call future, when power output is at the lowest since the history of Nigeria. Please stop making excuses for failure, because Nigerians are capable of doing great things if given opportunity. In 1996 I was Arguing with a friend and he told me that Nigeria was ok to be corrupt. You must appreciate that people have lived on Corruption for years and feels that is what is right. What is the difference between you and your friend who had argued in favour of corruption? because you are arguing that it's OK for OBJ to be corrupt. You believe it’s human to misappropriate funds meant for Nigerian development. I say Prof is not informed on this Issue because we Need to have Change of Power Several times Over and People Need to Be sent to Jail before the rule of Law will prevail. I would say that you are not informed, why don’t you critique every thing Achebe said in his letter. Give your own rebuttal and let's see your informed mind at work. Your post is myopic and sentimental. It did not address issues, but rather resorted to emotional outburst. I wish you be more comprehensive and analytical in your subsequent posts like Orinkinla. Give instances and comparisons. |
I think Nduka Irabor, a member of National Assembly did a project like this in his constituency , I don't know if he is still serving in the house, may be you can check up on him or his office to get a first hand information. You have to be very cautious with Vsat and ressellers, because they will be telling some technical information you cannot really understand. How do you measure a dedicated bandwith or shared bandwith? How do you measure byte speed. I think you may also need a consultant. |
Never ending Onitsha Owerri Road is still at 22.36% completion. This contract was awarded before elections of 2003 and its about 55 KM. About 35% of the total cost has been paid without considering the work done. Why is that the Ministry of Works did not specify when these contracts were awarded and date of completion. |
I said earlier that I have some flaws when it comes to handling two women at a time. I can only handle one person at a time , but who am I to say that polygamy or polyandry should be criminalized given the fact that it not consistent with western beliefs. If we criminalize polygamy or polyandry, can we also criminalize adulterous couples who are engaged in sexual relationships ? If we criminalize polygamy or polyandry, can we also criminalize those who have children outside wedlock? If we criminalize polygamy or polyandry, can we also criminalize those who break marriage vow? If we criminalize polygamy or polyandry, can we also criminalize those who are in gay/lesbian unions? I still insist that the west should not define marriage for us. |
I am particularly interested in this guy called Clint Osuofia, not related to Nkem Owoh. I am not sure if I got his name right. I once read his interview on The Sun. I would also like to know about Okey Bakasi, Dauda, and Basket Mouth |

http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=74804. Dangote is an economic power in West African region. I hope to see his name on Forbes list one day. |
You also need to need to carry out a feasibility study on your venture. I think that you have to compare cost of production in Nigerian with Chinese imported toiletry products. |
I am awed by Sexyme and Afam's illustrations. Sexyme, you still insist on not being a technical expert even when most folks on this forum do not know what you are talking about. |
Seun, would you say the samething to OBJ, your idol. If Okotie lacks "substance" in Nigerian politics, then I wonder what OBJ and Atiku lack- may be character and discipline. |
BIG GBOOOZAA FOR HORUS |
terracota, I was not surprised to see your attack on my "poor grammar" when you compared Chinua Achebe with TUface, so who am I to speak good English? If Achebe is a political neophyte as Ramsey Nouah, then a rambling block head like me will say " me no speak Inglisi, '' Gracia I think that the burden of proof is on you since you have disagreed with Achebe’s assertions. Why don’t you present your facts to rebut Achebe’s claims. You have tactfully avoided Anambra issues which prompted Achebe to write on the state of the nation. You selectively reiterated Mckren' sentiments without looking at the reasons given by Debosky. @ tera Bayelsa--the list goes on. Simplistic minds will see the invisible hand of Obasanjo in everything instead of placing blame squarely at the feet of the vampires sucking their states of birth dry. Either way, that old soldier will vacate Aso Rock next month and I'll be tired about debating his pros and cons. Later all. May be Anambrians are too naive and shortsighted to see that Andy and Chris Uba are working for PDP and OBJ. Nigerians always twist facts when it concerns them. By the way, all your encomiums on OBJ's achievements are all institutional not infrastructural. Did OBJ use about $200 Billion to fund EFCC? Did OBJ use $200 Billion to fund CBN capitalization program? Did OBJ use $200 Billion to fund GSM project even when GSM providers paid about $200 million dollars each? They have spent billions of dollars on power generation, yet power output is very low. I don’t know if PHCN is supplying power to NASA instead of Nigerians. They have spent billions on roads, most roads are in shambles. Let’s analyze Nigerian income since 1999. Let us measure generated income with delivery of public services to Nigerians from 1999 to date. I know that my English is not good, but it does not take a rocket scientist to know that the gains that might have been made during OBJ’s institutional reforms have all been wiped away by inflation A bottle of coke in 1999 was N10; today it is above N30 resulting in about 300% increase and our standard of living has not appreciated to that same level. A liter of petrol was about N11 in 1999, it is above N60 as of today. Not speaking good English does not becloud my sense of reasoning to see that things have not commensurably improved. Whether we like it or not, this administration has not fared well in infrastructural development. |
pls run a background check on these companies before you send your package. its better not to fall into wrong hands than hiring a lawyer. you can check bbbonline.org or local directory. |
babyosisis Has monogamy stopped promiscuity? Nope. Let's hold all types of marriages to the same standard and you will see that none is supreme. I have never mentioned African in all my posts since polygamy and polyandry go beyond African culture. If we go by your argument that monogamy is the best form of marriage: why do so many monogamous couples go outside the rules of monogamy to enjoy polygamy? About 50% of marriages that end in divorce are caused by infidelity in the US. If marriage is a union of a man and woman, why does the west accept gay unions? May be you don’t know that there are more monogamous relationships than polygamous relationships, which implies that infidelity is highly prevalent among monogamous couples. Monogamous infidelity breeds more diseases and unwanted children than polygamous relationships. You are looking at monogamy from an idealistic perspective instead of looking at it from a realistic perspective, that's why people say for better for worse when they don’t mean it. And you are telling me it's the best thing when people test run marriages- thinking that if it does not work, we get a divorce. Ok if we say to the West, you should stick to your vow - for better for worse-, they say that we are intolerant and uncivilized. I even met a single mom of four kids from four different men who had the effrontery to frown at polygamy. Wait a minute; it’s acceptable in the west to have as many kids as possible outside wedlock while polygamy is a crime? What do U call people who are in a multiple relationship? You have a lot of women who double date and it becomes a crime when people want to get married. If you define polygamy as a man having sexual relationship with multiple women, many men are guilty of this and so are women who are sexually involved with more than one man. In Nigerian universities, most girls have school boyfriends who satisfy their sexual, emotion and physical needs and at the same have business and working class men or married men who meet their financial needs. NB: You have tactfully avoided my reference to polyandry- one woman, several men. I hope you put men who are engaged in this type of union as a people whose rights are also violated in your subsequent post. |
because Gana thinks that Nigerians suffer from amnesia. He was fired by Baba because He had arranged for Archbishop of Abuja to deliver a sermon during Democracy Day. The bishop lashed out at Baba and his cohorts who were supporting 3 rd term agenda. Trust Baba, he does not like reprimand or challenge, so instead of confronting the Bishop, he fired Gana. So he is politically jobless, that's why he is seeking for attention. If PDP failed as he said, he was part of that failure. I can vividly remember what he said in PH during presidential elections 2003 on fuel scarcity. “That Nigerians do not resent us because some disgruntled elements are sabotaging government efforts" |
Babyosisi, Why not stick to the topic instead of insinuating that I got issues with Christianity. I reminded folks who used bible as their basis of argument that someone read the same bible and acted to the contrary. On the other hand, I am of the opinion that western ideology should mot serve as a yardstick for measuring what is good or bad. Does it mean that Muslims who practice polygamy are evil and do not have any benefit? Does it mean that some Nepalese who practice polyandry are wrong? But remember that there is a culture where a woman shares several men. –polyandry. We ve got to stop this idea of defining right or wrong from Billy O’Reilly’s perspective. Is there any science to show that polygamous marriages fare less? Here are some of the benefits of marriage. It serves as agent of procreation. It serves as an agent of socialization. Society building, Work Force development, Family etc Polygamy fits into these aforementioned conditions. You are trying to tie polygamy to harzards that might have been created by monogamous relationships. If you tell me that you have imbibed western perspective (Meology) Me and myself, Me and my family, then polygamy may be the worst thing ever. Do promiscuous couples keep to this monogamous rule of one man, one woman? People in the west are living polygamously when they are involved with more than one person; the law only allows them to be married to one person at a time. Most people are not doing this on their own volition, but because the law will not allow them. Monogamous people go around the law to mate other people which is not against the law, but could be viewed as polygamy. This is shear hypocrisy. |
USPS is not a guaranteed way of sending items to Nigeria. I really had a nasty experience with USPS and NIPOST. Their tracking system is not real time. It can only track within US. Items are delivered to NIPOST which in turn delivers to you. |
Sometimes it amazes me how people comment on this site. Just to prolong this discussion. OBJ has never hidden his disdain for Ngige. While he - OBJ - was on a state visit in Anambra, He told Gov. Peter Obi point blank that he would never be Anambra governor beyond May 29, 2007. Few days later Peter Obi was impeached. May be we are not making sense to say that OBJ has a vested interest in Anambra state. |
In Achebe's words: “President Olusegun Obasanjo has taken Nigeria as low as she has ever gone. This will surprise foreign ‘friends’ of Nigeria who may believe the myth that Obasanjo has been fighting to end corruption in the country and to bring democracy to its citizens. Nigerians know better. The Senate indicted him and Atiku. His presidential jet was used to ferry money across to the US by his cohort- Andy Ubah. OBJ bought N200 million shares in Transcorp while still in office. “President Obasanjo has had the opportunity to rule Nigeria for three years (1976-79) as an unelected military dictator and later for two terms of eight years as a retired general/civilian (1999-2007). People don’t exactly remember what Obasanjo did in his first civilian incarnation. His second coming, however, was a different matter. He unfolded a gigantic scheme for staying in power beyond his tenure. Did he not want to stay beyond 2007? This led to the feud between him and Atiku He set up agencies with long titles like the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent National Electoral Commission. It soon became clear, however, that these devices were not intended to curb the crimes they enumerated but to go after people who disagree with the President, especially on his desire to extend his tenure. Adedibu, Bode Gorge, Peter Odili, Andy Uba, Tony Anenih have not been indicted by any government agency. Is this not selective prosecution? “Perhaps the strangest of these events took place in my own state, Anambra, where a governor was kidnapped by a criminal gang who claimed that they had ‘fixed’ the election and earned the right to receive the state budgetary allocation. Former PDP Chairman, Audu Ogbeh was forced to resign becuase he did not support Ubas and OBJ. Whatever the merit of this bizarre story the governor refused to turn over the allocation to these thieves and began to spend it on building roads and bridges which nobody had done in decades. He began to pay pension to retired civil servants who had not been paid in years. Anambra State was transformed overnight. No where else in Nigeria had such a change happened. Governor Ngige became the people’s governor. We all know that Ngige outperformed most of the governors Ngige was even ranked higher than PDP Presidential -Cadidate- Yar'dua. “One would have thought that our anti-corruption president, Chief Obasanjo, would have embraced Governor Ngige as a fellow fighter against corruption. But no.The fellows demanding the state revenue were Obasanjo’s friends who in anger set about burning down and destroying state property while the Police stood at a distance, watching. Did Chris Uba and his agents not set govt house and broadcasting houses on fire? Did they not kidnap Ngige to get their way? Did they not force Anambra Accountant General at gun point in Abuja to sign for transfer of funds from Anambra account to Uba’s accounts? “I have told this story again although we all know it. I am retelling it because as it goes with Anambra, so will it go with Nigeria. “As Nigeria gets ready for the election of Governors, Anambra State is in a quandary. President Obasanjo’s hatchet man for elections is determined that only one candidate will be allowed to run in the state and has gone ahead to disqualify everybody else so that the President’s favourite man will be alone in the field. If this plan goes through, it would amount to nothing less than the disenfranchisement of the people of Anambra State. Peter Obi and Chris Ngige cannot stand in the forthcoming election because INEC, headed by Mr. Iwu who was recommended by Andy Uba disqualified them. “ |
Terracota. I am soo sorry for my poor grammar. English is not my first language.” Maybe" is soo unEnglish. Thanks for teaching me. So, back to the point. You listed some of OBJ's wonderful achievements and I listed some of his failures and you went ballistic. A comparison is based on two or more known conditions. Why do I have to prove to you that exchange rate was at @ N88 per dollar before OBJ came into office? Why don’t you provide contrary evidence as I have done? The same basis you employed in enumerating OBJ's achievement without statistical or empirical evidence is what I used to highlight OBJ's flaws. The fact is that OBJ has received more from Nigeria and has done little. To whom much is given, much is expected. It irks me to see some folks who think that Nigerians deserve less simply because their idol is the president. Are we saying that OBJ is the greatest thing to have happened in Nigeria politically? Or does it mean that Nigeria cannot do better? Even Achebe is concerned about his home sate and how OBJ and Ubas want to acquire Anambra as their property. Nobody has ever said anything about this. |
Terracota May be you live in space. I wish you would compare standard of living to what was obtainable before OJB came to power. Compare also power generation pre -OBJ and what it is today. May be using federal police to destroy Anambra State is one of OBJ's achievements- lol Compare the prices crude oil pre- OBJ and what its today. Compare about $200 Billion generated by OBJ and what was generated pre -OBJ and tell me if quality of life has appreciated commensurably with income generation. Compare our road network before OBJ and what its today Compare sectarian violence before OBJ and now. Compare exchange rate @ 88 Naira before OBJ and N130. Compare plane crashes before OBJ and now Compare political violence before OBJ and now. Compare political patronage and cronyism before OBJ and Now. I would have wanted you to tell me that TuFace would match Achebe in intellectual capability. Yes, OBJ can write a book, but not an authority in literature, But Achebe founded a party in Nigeria; the difference here is that Obasanjo has not founded any political organization in Nigeria. |
thank you TAYO. Communication is a two way thing- |
Teracotta. I was not surprised to see how you compared Nigerian TuFace with Chinua Achebe. This thread has not been watered down to that extent. Comparing intellectual power that is known beyond Nigeria with local Nigerian artistes. Most of these artistes cannot even wrtite their own memoirs let alone writing a book. Ramsey Nouh cannot act without a script written by someone . eg Achebe |
@Egbon In my own opinion, this writing from Chinua Achebe is just another way of openly endorsing Dr. Ngige - why has this man been silent for a while? Is Chinua Achebe just noticing all the flaws in this government. Because Chinua Achebe is a renowed poet and "the most widely read author of the 20th century" does not necessarily mean that he his politically savvy May be Achebe should have endorsed Andy and Chris Uba. He has never been silent on Nigerian issues. He refused to accept a presidential award from OBJ. Tercotta@ His perspective on Nigerian politics is no meaningful than DBanj or Tuface or some other celebrity. In fact, I'd be more likely to listen to those two since they've actually lived through OBJ's two terms in office. If u were writing a paper on Nigerian politics and you quoted TuFace and your friend quoted Achebe, your friend would have an authoritative citation because Achebe was involved politically in Nigeria. He was a member of a political organization, wrote a book “The Problem with Nigeria" |

horrors of polygamy supported and advanced by west? people used bible as their basis of argument , so I had to remind them of church's checkered pasts and inconsistencies when it bothered on their morality. you maintain your posistion simply becuase you believe in western teachings, so that does not mean that it should be abhorred. South Easterners are most likely to tell you that polygamy is evil because Igbos destroyed all the traditional belief systems and adopted European religion as the only way to God. |
@Mamajama why all the personal attach, can we focus on the issue. What issues are we talking about since Achebe has no business talking about Nigerian issues. It looks like we got a lot of ITK's (I Too Know) in this forum well if ACHEBE does live in the USA, then he has no business talking about Nigerian politics, he is not there and should not be taken serious. that is my view. You have contradicted yourself. Don’t you live in the US? And you always comment on Nigerian issues. I don’t know why we always attack the messenger instead of the message. I believe that a septuagenarian like Achebe should be taken seriously when ever he talks. Why don’t we dissect and analyze his message so as to fathom where he has erred? We lack sense of decency and diplomacy in Nigeria, that's why we follow likes of OBJ, ATIKU, ORJI KALU, IBB, Wada Nas, Aresekola, Adedibu and UBAS. These are the people we have entrusted with the leadership and we have relegated intellectuals to the background. No nation has ever aspired to greatness with intellectual vacuum or apathy. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP |
Topsido Can you tell us your qualification as to know that Achebe is stupid. Have you met him in your life? I wonder who is really stupid, Achebe who is a world class author, or someone who is posting anonymously on Nairaland. If you had said what Achebe said, you would have sounded stupid because of your unpopularity. It seems that you did not read carefully, Achebe does not live in UK but US. Get your binoculars before posting |

Christ did not really advocate for tithe. There was a verse where he admonished his would be follower to sell all his belongings and give to the needy not to the church. |
