Which type of bible were early Europeans and missionaries reading when they were trading and holding slaves? Which type of bible was Church of England using when it was deeply involved in slavery? Which type of bible was Catholic Church reading when Jews were massacred by Nazis? Which type of bible were slave traders reading in Elmina Castle -Ghana while holding slaves in dungeon? Which type of bible are most churches in the west reading that they cannot condemn homosexuality?

We really have to expand our horizon when it comes to religion and cultures. Are you telling me that my great grand father who practiced polygamy was evil; simply because you believe that your bible says so, even though Solomon married hundreds of women and God made him the wisest man on earth. We have to shift from this Eurocentric perspective of presenting historical facts. Jesus is depicted as a white man even though He was from Middle East. Nearly all the saints are white. Modern Christendom evolved from Roman Catholic church- with Roman Empire influenced teachings, and Canon Law is a creed of Catholic Church. Western laws are premised on Canon- Law.

yes, look at what is happening in Church of England- Anglican church- They cannot take a stand on homosexuality because its part of western life style. Had it be polygamy or traditional African beliefs, they would have taken a stand. Anything that is anachronistic to western philosophy is  regarded as evil.
Politics › Jeryy Gana thinks that he is Smarter Than Nigerians? by adconline(op): 5:44am On Apr 02, 2007
Jeryy Gana is condenming OBJ's government he was part of.  I think he is hoping that the will be part of  incoming government. Any government in power (AGIP). I used to call him  minister of lieology.

I  think that these thieves think  that Nigerians are not smart enough to unravel the truth.

Has  monogamy stopped promiscuity? Nope. Has monogamy stopped STD's  Nope. So, what's the  fuzz about  encouraging infidelity? We are leaving on borrowed concept of marriage. Before colonization, Africans had their marriage institutions.Monogamy was introduced in Nigeria by our colonial masters- British.

Its a religious thing not supposed to be  included  in our constitution given the fact that there are Muslims, Atheists, Animists and Traditionalists.

Some women are seeing it from feminist perspective, but  there is also polyandry- one woman -many men. This is practiced in some parts of  Nepal and Tibet. I really hate this western concept of telling people what's right and what's wrong. If  you were a pagan,  would  you need  western concept of marriage  to define your beliefs? On the other hand, if we say that homosexuality is a social  aberration, westerners will say that we are primitive and uncivilized.
Culture › Re: Your Views On Polygamy? by adconline(m): 9:39pm On Apr 01, 2007
This is western idea, not human rights. Laws are based on practicality, principles, precedents, religion and cultures. Can you tell me in the UN Human Rights Charter where it proscribes polygamy or polyandry? Human rights charter upholds the rights to freedom of association and religion. Neither polygamy nor polyandry trades spouses as goods. This is a flawed concept.

Could it not be some of the reasons why these folks are bereft of ideas. best Nigerians political orators delivered good governance to Nigerians. think of Awo, Zik and co.

I remember a member of National Assembly, Bugaje for chastising his fellow members for being incoherent and devoid of ideas during debates

@ Spoilt.
divorce rate is lower because culturally we don't encourage divorce.(think what it'll do to the precious family name

So are you saying we should adopt this type of love even where it has failed in the west and it's failing?   Is divorce not legal in Nigeria?  So,    our cultures allow polygamy.

Western Polygamy is outlawed because their legal system is a derivative of Canon Law which forbids polygamy. Should we deny people legal rights to freedom of association and religion simply because the West abhors polygamy? If gays are protected under the law, why can't polygamists and polyandrist be protected? Since everybody is not a Christian, does it mean that polygamy is evil?  This is another religious farce of saying that only Christians are God's chosen people.

Let's remember that polygamy was outlawed in UK while slavery was legal. In fact Church of England was deeply involved in slavery even when it proscribed polygamy.

Culture › Re: Your Views On Polygamy? by adconline(m): 8:20pm On Apr 01, 2007
If we go by western concept of love, polygamy may not be entertained, but west is no moral authority in this regard. Let's remember that polygamy was a ploy devised to incriminate black folks in racial segregation era, while white men who were polygamous were rarely brought before the law. The Founder of Mormon Church, Joseph Smith who later became a US presidential candidate had polygamous relationships.
"Individuals have a recognized constitutional right to engage in any form of consensual sexual relationship with any number of partners. Thus, a person can live with multiple partners and even sire children from different partners so long as they do not marry. However, when that same person accepts a legal commitment for those partners "as a spouse," we jail them” USATODAY. 10/3/2004

If the British had proscribed polygamy in Nigeria, it would have been counter productive since most of their allies were northerners and polygamists.  So, do we construe "love" as a mere profession of affection as it is usually done in the West? .Someone who wants to get something from their companion professes love. Western professed love does not last, cannot break new grounds in relationships.  We believe so much in western professed love without acknowledging that it’s a total failure since marriages that are premised on this type of love have failed by 50%. Rate of divorces is about 50% in the US.

Our parents dont really talk so much about western/celebrity love, but they understand love more than some of these westerners. At least divorce rate in Nigeria is lower than what’s obtainable in the west. So I believe that a polygamist or polyandrist can love their family.

If she went out with a man without your knowledge, the she got some skeletons in her closet. Please dont lose your job, because your life is going to suck when you dont have money to do all the things you do for her. She is going to leave you when you have no money . See if you can work it with her but not endlessly hoping that she would change.
Culture › Re: Your Views On Polygamy? by adconline(m): 2:08pm On Apr 01, 2007
For someone in the US to say that they have not heard of polygamy is ludicrous. May be one of those folks on Jay Walking- Jay Leno who thinks that US got independence from God or Russia. How about Utah experience? I am a monogamous person- cant even deal with two women at a time, but that does not mean that people whose religious faith supports it should abide by their teachings.

If homosexuality is a way of life in the west, polygamy or polyandry should be viewed from the same moral prism. I believe that polygamy or polyandry is much better than infidelity in monogamous relationships.

Why do we think that folks like Hakeem Olajunwa and Oluwakandi are popular among Nigerians. Are you telling me that every Nigerian knows Hakeem more than Okocha, Keshi, Yekini, and Kanu?

Hakeem is popular in the US not in Nigeria. Unless we are talkig about Naija folks who are popular outside Nigeria.

How do you determine honesty? Remember that Andy is clean according to PDP, OBJ and EFCC. What  was  Yar'dua's performace  when all the governors were ranked. Even Chris Ngige of Anambra state  outperformed him despite all the tackles from UBA and OBJ circles. He has not governed his state well. Mass illiteracy and underdevelopment.

What did he do with 6.5 billion surplus? No hospital to treat his kidney problem since 1999.  He governs a state that has millions of people, yet only  about 500  applicants  were admitted into universities according to JAMB in 2004. Katsina state has  one of the highest illiteracy rates in Nigeria. u don't want to talk about poverty.  8 years can make a lot of impact.

JAK it looks like you did not really understand my questions? So you think that Generator traders and importers are holding OBJ  back from generating enough power for Nigerians?  This is HYPOTHESIS of the century. Generators are improvisations to black out.    So these guys are stronger than government?   I liken your post to what Jerry Gana  said during 2003 elections when there was  fuel scarcity. " that some disgruntled elements are sabotaging PDP government that's why people dont resent us" without telling Nigerians that   they were addressing a rented crowd. When your were a kid, did you hold your dad's debtors  responsible for  your father's inability to provide food for his housesold? may be OBJ is your father.

OMG. So we pay tithe without knowing what our pastors do with the money? Unbelievable.  That's why Church is a big form of investment.  I give to the needy not to pastors. These folks forget that Jesus recognised a widow's might, so it does not have to be 10% of what you have. Also God does not take gold or silver but a contrite and broken heart. God does not want a gift of a sinner, but his soul. I wonder if tithe is part of the ten commandment.

Gbooza !!! dayokanu.

Its good for someone to commit a crime and go scotfree , while its a crime to hang another man for the same crime. What happened to leadership by example? If OBJ is not held accountable for all the mis steps of his administration, who is going to be help accountable? may be my MAMA. I really dont know why people think that OBJ is the greatest thing that has ever happened to us. May be because he squandered a lot of opportunities.
