http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/breaking_news/article01 http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/news/article02 UPDATED AT 18.05 GMT Residents allege al-Qaeda inputs as crisis rages in Kano Residents of Panshekara, the flashpoint of Tuesday's clash between Moslem fanatics and the police in Kano, which left no fewer than 21 policemen dead, have alleged that those that perpetrated the act were members of the Al-Qaeda Islamic organisation. They were said to have sneaked into Kano at about 3 a.m. on Tuesday A resident, Mallam Aminu Bashir recalled the modus operandi of the militants saying: "They speak Hausa, English, and Arabic. Some of them look like Sudanese, some like Chadian and some like the people of Maiduguri. They should be up to 500 and their age range between 20 and 40. There were also their children and their wives who carry AK 47 riffles. They initially delivered 30 minutes to an hour lecture and they said there was a time Mallam Jafar was killed in his mosque. Then they say that there was another Imam that was killed too. So, they say why, is it there is no security in Nigeria. Why can this happen and election would take place?" The Guardian gathered that the fight was still raging on Wednesday as more soldiers were being deployed from Kaduna to Kano to restore normalcy. |
more folks like him are needed in Nigerian politics, he wont participate in next dispensation because PDP does not want honest leadership. Some of these experienced legislators are let go and replaced with political stooges. Which way Nigeria |
Seun How would you feel if SSS visited your office and carted away your computers. Simply because your were posting some dissenting opinions on your website? I always tell you that you are biased when you talk about Atiku and OBJ. You always portray Atiku as Nigeria's greatest evil. OBJ is no less. Press freedom should be respected. If not, SSS maybe knocking on your door mext. |
We live in bigger houses but have smaller minds to accept dissent. We drive big cars, but still lack compassion to drive love. We live in a bigger world and we care less for human lives. We care more for animals than human lives. We live an age where double income gets but we are more wretched. We live in age where IPODs are a way of life, but we are morally bankrupt and numb. We think live longer, but we still lack self-restraint to detect good from evil. We live in a free world but we are still chained by lack of decency. We are more ready to destroy than to build. We are more ready to fight than to dialogue. We feel a sense of entitlement that we are better than others. May God grant these bereaved families the fortitude to bear these tragedies. |
That’s why politicians will always ply on our fears to perpetuate rigging. Our situation cannot change withour siddon -dey- look attitude. Things cannot change if we dont fight for them. Its not the intention of the captor to let the captive free, the captive MUST demand freedom from his master |

@sista If a Ghanaian talks about his/her country, most Nigerians will not join and say that Ghana is really bad because we have the same situation in Nigeria, but if a Nigerian talks bad about his country, fellow Africans will follow suit and beat up Nigeria. I had a Somalian who told me that it was cool to kill and burn down houses in his country but so un-cool for Nigeria to be corrupt. Not that I am saying that corruption should thrive in Nigeria. Here is another example; Liberia got into a civil war, Nigeria went in and sank billions of dollars to restores peace. No economic or political interests attached, but Ex-Liberian president, Charles Taylor hated Nigerians with a passion, he glorified in capturing and killing Nigerians most of whom were journalists. Nigeria helped Liberia return to democracy and Charles Taylor became president and he went back to his old ways of doing things. When the world said no to his government, he sought for asylum in Nigeria. ie use me and dump me. Liberians even killed Nigerians. This is the same thing with Sierra Leone @kenyaposter I don’t want Nigeria to be like Kenya because there is no difference between the two. The same way a Kenyan will not believe a Nigerian who is preaching against corruption is the same way I will see a Kenyan who is anti corruption in Nigeria. I want Nigeria to fight corruption like Botswana and South Africa. When we talk about Nigerians let’s be holistic. Let us talk about a Nigerian whose company was profiled in FORBES Magazine as #272 American Largest 400 private companies since Oprah did not say that. His company is the 2nd largest minority business in America. Let’s talk about a Nigerian who designed latest GM electric car – The Volt. Let’s talk about faceless, nameless and struggling Nigerians. When we talk about Nigeria let us remember that two states in Nigeria are more populous than Kenya. So even if 50 % of Nigerians are bad, it still means that 70 millions Nigerians are good .ie two times the size of Kenya. Do Colombians get beaten up for all American drug problems? How many times has Queen Oprah done a show on South American drug lords? How many times has Oprah done a show on the plight of women in Saudi Arabia or Islamofascism? Only TI has got the indices to measure corruption and Kenya measures in the lowest percentile like Nigeria. You are back at it again always proclaiming self-righteousness. Your country is better than mine. It does not make any difference that Anti corruption Czar , Mr John Githongo, in your country fled to UK. Neither does it make a difference that Barack Obama's camera men were extorted by Kenyan police. If you like keep wallowing in the notion that Kenya is better Nigeria. Kenya is only one country ahead of Nigerian in TI's ranking. It’s high time you guys started talking about your issues. http://www.forbes.com/lists/2006/21/biz_06privates_Camac--International_NG9G.html http://www.usatoday.com/money/companies/management/2007-01-08-entre-lawal_x.htm https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-38880.0.html http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0781359.html |
But FG did not award the contract to eastern contractors. besides ministry of works in the east is not contolled by easterners. The bigger picture is that lagos contractors should be held responsible by lagos engineers. What is the function of his ministry? |
planner @, That was a really good one. "OPERATION TO EXTERMINATE ALL IGBOS" we need to talk to Sacha Baron Cohen "Borat" to make a movie about Igbos they way he did about Jews . So many were chanting kill the Jews unbeknownst to them that Borat was satirizing their actions Jakumo@ There you go again, tactfully avoiding my question of your tribe and yet could spew hatred and ethnic phobia in your post. Kenya poster @ You also need to familiarize yourself with more struggling Nigerians abroad. Separate Nigerian movies from realities, I don’t know the type of Nigerians you are hanging out with, but most of them do not even have an apartment. There are more UNsuccessful Nigerians abroad than successful ones. By the way I had a Kenyan friend who thought that every Nigerian stole oil money. I hope you are not one of them. There are more poor Nigerians than rich Nigerians. As per the sate of our country, most Nigerians detest the way things are going, but I did not notice that among my Kenyan friends. My best Kenyan friends always took me to cleaners on Nigeria issues until I was rescued by a Kenyan ally who stated that Kenya was equally corrupt. Kenya is as corrupt as Nigeria. I don’t know why African countries feel that they are better. I bet you can never hear Nigerians talk about African countries because there are so many things going on in their country, but it looks like African countries are so much fixated on Nigerians. I tell you something that Nigerians would not allow someone to rule them for about 24 yrs the way Arap Moi did. This holier than though attitude has got to stop. Pot calling kettle charcoal |
Jakumo state your tribe and lets continue the debate |
http://www.vanguardngr.com/articles/2002/cover/april07/17042007/f217042007.html Uba wins in Anambra INEC early yesterday released the result of last Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Anambra State, and declared Dr. Andy Uba of the PDP winner of the governorship election. Declaring Uba winner, the state INEC Commissioner, Alhaji Nasiru Ayilara, also announced that PDP won 28 of the 30 House of Assembly seats, while election into the remaining two seats in Nnewi North and Nnewi South Constituency were cancelled for alleged irregularities. Ayilara said Uba polled 1,093,004 votes and met all other requirements to be declared the winner of the election. A breakdown of the election figures showed that Dame Virgy Etiaba of APGA polled 71,296 votes, Mrs. Njideka Anyadike of ADC polled, 14,562 votes, Dr. Alex Obiogbolu of APS polled 13,957 votes, and DPP’s candidate, Chief Osita Ezenwa got 13,133. Others, according to INEC, are Chief John Onyebuchi of Labour Party who polled 9,192 votes, Victor Anigbata of NDP got 8,060 votes, Mr. Arthur Nwandu of PMP polled 6,684, Valentine Nwabufor of BNPP polled 6,020 votes, Lawson Aroh of PPP got 4,261, Stanley Okeke of CDC got 6,695, Emeka Okafor of PPA 8,058, Mbanefo Mike of RPA polled 2,548 and Uchenna Obinwunne of CPP got 1,951 votes. Awka, the state capital and the state as a whole remained calm yesterday. A faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo led by Chief Ifeanyi Enechukwu, who succeeded Prof. Joe Irukwu in acting capacity, dismissed the position of the opposition, Sunday, that there was no election in Anambra State. Enechukwu said there was election in the whole South-East states, except in, which was cancelled, and congratulated those who won their various elective positions especially Dr. Andy Uba |
http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=75736 Ehindero: Chris Uba Was a Security Risk • FG, UN move to check post-election crisis From Onyebuchi Ezigbo and Funmi Peter-Omale in Abuja and Francis Ugwoke in Enugu, 04.17.2007 Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, said yesterday that his men picked up Chief Chris Uba of Anambra State last weekend because he was a security risk to the conduct of a free and fair election in the state. The Federal Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) have also unveiled strategies aimed at managing post-election crisis in the country. This is being driven in the country by the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) in conjunction with the UN agency. Briefing newsmen on the election in Abuja, Ehindero said, apart from the arrest of Uba, the police also picked up over 300 persons for various electoral malpractices across the states and the Federal Capital Territory last week. In the words of the Inspector General of Police, "Chris Uba was a security risk and I won't say more than that. But we intend to release him anytime from now, probably today." Uba, younger brother of the Anambra State Governor-elect, Mr. Andy Uba, was released last night. According to Ehindero, about 100 cases bordering on electoral malpractices were recorded. "Over 300 persons were arrested and we are still collating. 20 people lost their lives, including some policemen while 30 others were wounded. We recovered over 25 arms and ammunition." While noting that his officers and men had so far resisted using force in quelling disturbances, he however cautioned that the Police would no longer watch while men and officers of the force are being wasted". Reacting to allegations by the INEC that security agencies should be blamed for the mayhem witnessed in some states, he said, "I have discussed with Maurice Iwu on the incidents that happened in Enugu. We will rather not allow lives to be wasted than to take action that would results into death. It is not a weakness on the part of the police; we are just trying to be civil. "But henceforth, we will not allow miscreants and thugs to unleash terror. A DSP was killed in Kogi State because he rescued INEC officials, we will not shoot but we won't allow our officers to be wasted. "I have directed my men on any arsonist that is caught should be arrested or even be shot if necessary. The law is very clear on this, if somebody is committing an offence punishable seven years and above and cannot be prevented or stopped, the law says such people could be shot. "That is what the law says and we won't hesitate to use it." On reported cases of demonstrations in Okenne, Kogi State, Nasarawa State and some parts of Edo State, the Inspector General of Police said mobile policemen have been drafted to bring the situation under control. "In Nasarawa Eggon, the supporters of those who lost the election blocked the road and we sent men there. Same for Okenne, we have sent two units of mobile policemen to dislodge the protesters. "These are conducts we cannot tolerate. Of course in Edo, there are some demonstrations in Auchi but the situation has been arrested." He stressed that the former governor of Osun State, Chief Bisi Akande, has no immunity under the law, "and because he has been caught with illegal possession of firearms, he would be prosecuted. Nobody is above the law." Meanwhile, the police authority yesterday released Uba, who was arrested and taken to Abuja last week Friday. Uba, who confirmed his release in a chat with newsmen, said that he was surprised that no charge was brought against him by the Inspector-General of Police who ordered his arrest and detention. He also said that nobody told him why he was invited to Abuja on the eve of the last Saturday election. According to him, "I am still a member of PDP and I will never work against the party. I only disagreed with the manner in which they snatched the structure of the party in Anambra State which I nurtured to prominence". On his experience while in detention, Uba said, "when we arrived the IG's office at Abuja last Friday afternoon, I was asked to remain there and wait for the police chief whom they said ordered my invitation. "The IG later met with me and said that he personally invited me to his office and said that I was not under arrest. When I asked why he invited me, he could not give any reason. I was only told to remain there." Meanwhile, the Federal Government and the United Nations Development Prog-ramme (UNDP) have also unveiled strategies aimed at managing post-election crisis in the country. This is being driven in the country by the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) in conjunction with the UN agency. Director-General of IPCR, Dr. Joseph Golwa, while unfolding the agenda in Abuja, said the plan is to capture and retain the attention of the youths who are the most vulnerable segment of the society in terms of the capacity to unleash violence. "The strategy is to fully engage the youths in positive activities during and after the elections that will prevent their exploitation by politicians as well as encourage positive thinking and attitude during and after the elections", he said. He said the UNDP and IPCR have organized stakeholder dialogue sessions, capacity building for the election tribunal judges and peace education and reward programmes for positive attitudes by youths in violence prone areas of the country. Under the trouble shooting programme, the agencies are to execute projects like the 'Youth for Peaceful Elections (YPE) incentives designed to build the capacity of young people between the ages of 18 - 30 in the area of creative thinking and the 'Play for Peace (PFP) incentive' for youths in the rural areas. According to the D-G, the Play for Peace programme targets youths at the grassroots level that will participate in a soccer competition across the country. The first soccer competition is expected to kick-off on May 5 for the North Central zone. The YPE programme encourages unemployed youths to submit their literary or art works on topics depicting violence and the role of youths in mainstreaming peace in the society. Awards ranging from three months internship at the UNDP, laptops and ipod will be given to winners. Also as part of the grand finale of the project, there will be an art exhibition of the selected art works in August while those not selected will be sold at the exhibition and proceeds given to artists. The representative of UNDP in Nigeria, Hon. Jackie Weatherspoon said the report of a nation-wide study on causes of electoral violence points to ethnicity, endorsement of a particular candidate by leaders over other contestants and outright imposition of candidates as likely conflict factors. Others are shortcomings on the part of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) in failing to discharge its functions very well, misuse of law enforcement agents at the polling stations and falsification of election result. |
Afam, can you in your theories tell us how to hold Chris and Andy Uba responsible, if they have federal support. Your statement is akin to Ex Minister of Works; Sen. Ogunleye who said that Igbo engineers were responsible for road projects going on in the South east. How could Anambrians hold Ubas when Anambra's highest law enforcement officer- Governor was kidnapped by Federal police not by roadside thugs. You hold Chimaroke responsible when he does not deliver basic services not when Jim's thugs supported by federal troops destroyed govt house and ESBS . Governors do not have power over commissioners of police. |
Gunman kills 32 in Virginia Tech rampage By SUE LINDSEY, Associated Press Writer 17 minutes ago A gunman massacred 32 people at Virginia Tech in the deadliest shooting rampage in modern U.S. history Monday, cutting down his victims in two attacks two hours apart before the university could grasp what was happening and warn students. The bloodbath ended with the gunman committing suicide, bringing the death toll to 33 and stamping the campus in the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains with unspeakable tragedy, perhaps forever. Investigators gave no motive for the attack. The gunman's name was not immediately released, and it was not known whether he was a student. "Today the university was struck with a tragedy that we consider of monumental proportions," Virginia Tech President Charles Steger said. "The university is shocked and indeed horrified." But he was also faced with difficult questions about the university's handling of the emergency and whether it did enough to warn students and protect them after the first burst of gunfire. Some students bitterly complained they got no warning from the university until an e-mail that arrived more than two hours after the first shots rang out. Wielding two handguns and carrying multiple clips of ammunition, the killer opened fire about 7:15 a.m. on the fourth floor of West Ambler Johnston, a high-rise coed dormitory, then stormed Norris Hall, a classroom building a half-mile away on the other side of the 2,600-acre campus. Some of the doors at Norris Hall were found chained from the inside, apparently by the gunman. Two people died in a dorm room, and 31 others were killed in Norris Hall, including the gunman, who put a bullet in his head. At least 15 people were hurt, some seriously. Students jumped from windows in panic. Alec Calhoun, a 20-year-old junior, said he was in a 9:05 a.m. mechanics class when he and classmates heard a thunderous sound from the classroom next door — "what sounded like an enormous hammer." Screams followed an instant later, and the banging continued. When students realized the sounds were gunshots, Calhoun said, he started flipping over desks for hiding places. Others dashed to the windows of the second-floor classroom, kicking out the screens and jumping from the ledge of Room 204, he said. "I must've been the eighth or ninth person who jumped, and I think I was the last," said Calhoun, of Waynesboro, Va. He landed in a bush and ran. Calhoun said that the two students behind him were shot, but that he believed they survived. Just before he climbed out the window, Calhoun said, he turned to look at the professor, who had stayed behind, perhaps to block the door. The instructor was killed, he said. At an evening news conference, Police Chief Wendell Flinchum refused to dismiss the possibility that a co-conspirator or second shooter was involved. He said police had interviewed a male who was a "person of interest" in the dorm shooting who knew one of the victims, but he declined to give details. "I'm not saying there's a gunman on the loose," Flinchum said. Ballistics tests will help explain what happened, he said. Sheree Mixell, a spokeswoman for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said the evidence was being moved to the agency's national lab in Annandale. At least one firearm was turned over, she said. Mixell would not comment on what types of weapons were used or whether the gunman was a student. Young people and faculty members carried out some of the wounded themselves, without waiting for ambulances to arrive. Many found themselves trapped behind chained and padlocked doors. SWAT team members with helmets, flak jackets and assault rifles swarmed over the campus. A student used his cell-phone camera to record the sound of bullets echoing through a stone building. Trey Perkins, who was sitting in a German class in Norris Hall, told The Washington Post that the gunman barged into the room at about 9:50 a.m. and opened fire for about a minute and a half, squeezing off about 30 shots. The gunman first shot the professor in the head and then fired on the students, Perkins said. The gunman was about 19 years old and had a "very serious but very calm look on his face," he said. "Everyone hit the floor at that moment," said Perkins, 20, of Yorktown, Va., a sophomore studying mechanical engineering. "And the shots seemed like it lasted forever." Erin Sheehan, who was also in the German class, told the student newspaper, the Collegiate Times, that she was one of only four of about two dozen people in the class to walk out of the room. The rest were dead or wounded, she said. She said the gunman "was just a normal-looking kid, Asian, but he had on a Boy Scout-type outfit. He wore a tan button-up vest, and this black vest, maybe it was for ammo or something." Students said that there were no public-address announcements after the first shots. Many said they learned of the first shooting in an e-mail that arrived shortly before the gunman struck again. "I think the university has blood on their hands because of their lack of action after the first incident," said Billy Bason, 18, who lives on the seventh floor of the dorm. Steger defended the university's conduct, saying authorities believed that the shooting at the dorm was a domestic dispute and mistakenly thought the gunman had fled the campus. "We had no reason to suspect any other incident was going to occur," he said. Steger emphasized that the university closed off the dorm after the first attack and decided to rely on e-mail and other electronic means to spread the word, but said that with 11,000 people driving onto campus first thing in the morning, it was difficult to get the word out. He said that before the e-mail went out, the university began telephoning resident advisers in the dorms and sent people to knock on doors. Students were warned to stay inside and away from the windows. "We can only make decisions based on the information you had at the time. You don't have hours to reflect on it," Steger said. Some students and Laura Wedin, a student programs manager at Virginia Tech, said their first notification came in an e-mail at 9:26 a.m., more than two hours after the first shooting. The e-mail had few details. It read: "A shooting incident occurred at West Amber Johnston earlier this morning. Police are on the scene and are investigating." The message warned students to be cautious and contact police about anything suspicious. Edmund Henneke, associate dean of engineering, said that he was in the classroom building and that he and colleagues had just read the e-mail advisory and were discussing it when he heard gunfire. He said that moments later SWAT team members rushed them downstairs, but that the doors were chained and padlocked from the inside. They left the building through an unlocked construction area. Until Monday, the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history was in Killeen, Texas, in 1991, when George Hennard plowed his pickup truck into a Luby's Cafeteria and shot 23 people to death, then himself. The massacre Monday took place almost eight years to the day after the Columbine High bloodbath near Littleton, Colo. On April 20, 1999, two teenagers killed 12 fellow students and a teacher before taking their own lives. Previously, the deadliest campus shooting in U.S. history was a rampage in 1966 at the University of Texas at Austin, where Charles Whitman climbed the clock tower and opened fire. He killed 16 people before police shot him to death. Founded in 1872, Virginia Tech is about 160 miles west of Richmond. With more than 25,000 full-time students, it has the state's largest full-time student population. It is best known for its engineering school and its powerhouse Hokies football team. The campus is centered on the Drill Field, a grassy field where military cadets practice. The dorm and the classroom building are on opposites sides of the Drill Field. President Bush offered his prayers to the victims and the people of Virginia, saying the tragedy would be felt in every community in the country. After the shootings, all campus entrances were closed, and classes were canceled through Tuesday. The university set up a spot for families to reunite with their children. It also made counselors available and planned an assembly Tuesday. Police said there had been bomb threats on campus over the past two weeks but said they had not determined a link to the shootings. It was second time in less than a year that the campus was closed because of a shooting. In August, the opening day of classes was canceled when an escaped jail inmate allegedly killed a hospital guard off campus and fled to the Tech area. A sheriff's deputy was killed just off campus. The accused gunman, William Morva, faces capital murder charges. Among Monday's dead was Ryan Clark, a student from Martinez, Ga., with several majors who carried a 4.0 grade-point average, said Vernon Collins, coroner in Columbia County, Ga. At a hastily arranged service Monday night at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Susan Verbrugge gazed out at about 150 bowed heads. "Death has come trundling into our life, a sudden and savage entity laying waste to our hearts and making desolate our minds," Verbrugge said during a prayer. "We need now the consolation only you can give." After the service, Clark's friend Gregory Walton, a 25-year-old who graduated last year, said he feared his nightmare had just begun. "I knew when the number was so large that I would know at least one person on that list," said Walton, a banquet manager. "I don't want to look at that list. I don't want to. "It's just, it's going to be horrible, and it's going to get worse before it gets better." |
just go ahead and marry him. If you do, i will really send you a wedding gift. |
@samsilo, dont allude to sentiments. provide historical facts. If indeed that your sentiments are true, why is it that your state has not developed under Hausa or Yoruba slavery. I don’t even hear you talk about Odi massacre, it was only Chuba Okadigbo who condemned and later visited Odi community. May be you can start another thread. What did Igbos do to Calabar nay South South that would be called imperialism. I watched Oputa Panel and all your grievances were directed toward Huasa-Fulani leadership. Why didn’t your leaders state the way they were treated by Igbos during the sitting of Oputa Panel Have you asked Igbos how they were treated by your people who occupied properties, businesses and communitied they had not toiled for? Have you asked the Igbos how they were treated when your folks allowed federal troops in your territories in order for Biafra to be captured? How do you feel that your folks gave away Bakassi Penisula in order for Biafra to fall? I know that some of your folks are happy that decision to give Bakassi away has resulted in giving your own people to Camerou?. Abadoned property act was entrenched in constitution for your people to take over Igbos properties. Ken Saro Wiwa later saw what Igbos had fought for. Why is MEND fighting today the monster Igbos had confronted? |
OBJ has no power under the constitution to cancel elections. They should shift the elections by 1-2 weeks in order to make provisions for the supreme court's ruling. Peter Obi, Fayose, and Atiku have proven that judiciary is on the right track. This ruling has set a precedent that politicians including Atiku and Co cannot witch-hunt their political enemies with INEC and EFCC. Kudos to judiciary for saving democracy in Nigeria |
This is free and anonymous forum where people can say anything. Seun started a thread on how to curb scams originating from Nigeria. Most people commented positively, but the originator of this thread "Sweet T'' profiled Igbos in his opening comments so people have to fight back. Someone whose tribe is insulted does not go about talking Nigerian development because if your home is good, your community is good and your country reflects it. This topic is premised on Igbos involvement in scams in Nigeria, so the premise is flawed, you cannot beat a child and ask her/him not to cry. |
Eze Igbo is for Igbos in Calabar not for all people in Calabar. As for tales of imperialism during civil wars, the truth has vindicated Igbos. I know that some of your folks will always blame Igbos even though you are still fighting the same enemies Igbos fought against. May be they are Igbo cloned enemies or Igbo instigated enemies. Good luck in wallowing in ethnic phobia. I have challenged you to show me where Igbos caused trouble in Nigeria due Eze Igbo installation; instead you resorted to highlighting educational achievements of Obong. I am very certain that nobody will tell you that I really don’t like your people because of political correctness, but actions speak louder than voice. Some folks like you think IGBOS MAY TAKE OVER which is not possible because they go home during Xmas and New Yam festival. |
These Igbo bashers dont want to state their tribes in order for us to see how their tribes have developed Nigeria and Igbos have retrogressed Nigeria. 419 is part of Nigerian problems, most foreigners know Nigeria as a country of corrupt leadership, not Igbos. Nigerian scams are offshoot of our corrupt leadership. I bet that Alams of Bayelsa made more news in the UK than Nigerian scams. I bet that Atiku and Jefferson scandal damaged our image more than 419 in the US. I guess that Andy Uba's indictment in the US caused more harm to our national image than 419 in the US. OBJ's involvement with Andy Uba's money ferrying activity brought a lot of shame to Nigeria. Let's not forget that these politicians who steal our resources stash them in foreign banks which are owned by these people who call us scammers. They call scammers because our politicians stash money abroad and live in pathetic conditions. Why on earth would a first lady of a rich country like Nigeria die in Spain of complications from plastic surgery? because they keep our money in foreign accounts and neglect our health infrastructures. Atiku had to be flown abroad for simple knee dislocation. Yar'dua had to be flown abroad for simple exhaustion. Is this not scamming when you steal from yourself? Nigeria cannot change without a political leadership that is ready to stamp out corruption. Leadership by example; Mr. Festus Mogae of Bostwana ,his minister go to banks to obtain BTA as required by law. Botswana is least corrupt country in Africa. Corruption starts from leadership and followers buy into it. When we praise public officials for stealing public funds, it reinforces the notion that stealing is cool. The reason why much attention is focused on Nigeria is because we shoulder a lot of responsibilities in the continent. Our failures represent dashed hopes of about a quarter Africans |
Thank God this ruling has saved the electoral process. Can INEC respect the law? Chris Ngige won his case against INEC, but he was still not included. Why do people always assume that Atiku can win without elections? Let's go to the polls and see, but PDP's concern is that He- Atiku knows all their game plans from rigging, stealing of ballot boxes and thuggery. I bet that He will match fire for fire. I will not have a second thought for not voting Atiku or PDP, but I know there are some folks who will vote him. Let's not disenfranchise them of their rights |
Jakumo and Co Keepon blaming Igbos for Nigerian problems. Just follow my instructions, list your tribe ,tell us your prominent people in Nigerian government that are performing. Igbos get beaten for Nigerian ills. You want to tell me that TI's ranking of Nigeria as one of the most corrupt countries in the world is attributable to igbos. Alams arrest in london was caused by Igbos. Afolabi, Sagem and national ID scam was caused by Igbos, Atiku and OBJ scandal was caused by Igbos. http://www.nigerianmuse.com/essays/?u=Ten_top_corruption_cases.htm 10 Top Corruption Cases in Nigeria as of April 4, 2005. Do your calculation and tell me if all Igbos should be prosecuted for “perpetuating” these crimes |
@Bankole. Why dont you move your family to Umuahia. You preach one Nigeria and you have never checked hands across River Niger. You are spewing phobia. You have the right to leave anywhere in Nigeria, why would Igbos be bashed for your inability to live beyond your ethnic enclave if we really believe in one Nigeria |
http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0605/21/cp.02.html. http://www2.oprah.com/index_du.jhtml BOYDEN: I've had several tell me it's so easy to do, no one gets hurt and it's somewhat our system's fault. GRIFFIN: In the case of Bank One, authorities say three Nigerian immigrants, Morris Brown Okolo, Joseph Yinka (ph) Sobode, and Idowu Ishola were among the ring leaders. count how many igbo names. Sweet d. Why don't you tell us your state. if Okonjo Iweala performs, she is a Nigerian not Igbo. Has it ever occured to you that Iweala, Soludo, Akunyili, Ezekwesili and Ndukwe ,Telecom Boss are all Igbos. List your tribe and show us your ourstanding sons and daughters in government |
But Brian Ross did not tell you that there is an Agency called EFCC fighting this ugly trend. |
@ Londoncool Another way of avoiding Nigerian issues. Igbos were married non to Igbos before civil war and it did not save any situation. Some Germans were married to Jews but did not save any situation. Some Urhobos were married to Ijaws. Likewise Ife and Modakeke. The point is that Eze Igbo can only function in Igbo cultural functions, period. Not to usurp the traditional role of Obong. Keep spewing hatred. Can Obong perform kola nut rituals or New Yam festival for Igbos in Calabar? If you dont think that Igbos can allow to have Oba or Obong in their states, why dont you go and live in Igboland? Igbos are not your problem for not knowing other cultures in Nigeria. |
its even unfortunate that "Sweet T " originated this post is from Texas and yet did not know that CNN's "How to Rob a Bank" showed Nigerians of other tribes with only 1 Igbo. @ 4play. I wonder why you highlighted my post, hmm! The difference here is that you believe that Igbos are cause of scams in Nigeria. What’s the difference between your views and that of Don Imus? Racist remarks. It’s a pity that this spoiler from ABC's lopsided view on Nigeria. Mr. Ross went to Lagos and called it crime infested city without showing many American companies that are part of the crime ridden community. I am waiting to see on Oprah Show how violent crimes like rape, gang and armed robberies have affected her adopted country South Africa; at least Nigeria trails South Africa in these areas. Or is this double a standard or for the good of TV rating? I would have wanted Oprah and her crew to tell us what corruption means when Paul Wolfowitz, World Bank president gave his girlfriend a job with a pay package that is greater than that of the US Secretary of States. Oprah should also tell us how Halliburton paid $2.4 million in bribes to evade taxes in Nigeria. |
