Celebrities › Re: Most Nollywood Actors And Actresses Are Poor by adconline(m): 5:12pm On Jul 01, 2006
Orikinla,
I wish that you did not tribalise this issue. Wal-Mart employees are least paid in the US about $7/hr, but Walton's family is the richest in the World. Their combined wealth surpasses that of Bill Gates and Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffet. This does not mean that they have shortchanged their employees. Since its called labor market, they must obey forces of demand and supply. We have a lot of movie actors and actresses in Naija, which to some extent depletes their wages and their bargaining power. Fact; what determines price, the willingness of the buyer to buy at all cost would put more money into the seller's hand and the willingness of the seller to sale at all cost will save the buyer some money.

Please Igbos are not the only people in Nollywood. I did not hear you say that all the politicians who have illegally acquired wealth should be investigated. Why is that only the trees that bear good fruits do people throw stone at? Mind you no actor or actress in the world is a billionaire, but many producers and director are- Steven Spielberg,George Lucas, and CO. They pay actors, because they are their employers.

As per stand of living, this is very relative to our economic indices. Mind you that PPP (purchasing power parity) is not the same. They do not need to live in Ikoyi to be rich given the nature of their income. One thing about our system is that It’s cash oriented and you cannot live  beyond your income. So no credit check or down payment.  Abeg 4million Naira is a lot of money everywhere- about $35,000 for a country with an income per capita of $400/per annum. Remember these are the same people who buy these movies.

Did someone say that OJ built a house for $2 million or Naira? Which OJ? Simpson or OJ Productions?

Mister why was your tirade directed against Igbos. Can you please adhere to the subject of discussion instead of propagating your racist views. I thought we were all matured. Mr Tyler Perry is also greedy. It seems you do not know the difference between an actor and a producer. Nkem Owoh does not produce or direct movies. I think one of us is not well , that's not me.
Phones › Re: Got A Call From An American Phone Number From Naija by adconline(op): 6:11am On Jun 21, 2006
It was a VOIP call from Naija with an American assigned area code. I had done this before with a 708 number and somebody from Naija picked the call. I think it has a callback technology like 800 numbers where someone from India will be acting like Paris Hilton, but with an India accent. This technolgy fascinates me. I got to know this because I offered to call him back to save him some money and it was very clear and easy.

I just got a call from a friend with an American Area Code. He told me he was calling from Naija 4real. I called him back with the same number and we spoke for some minutes and yet I got billed me as a local call. What's the technology behind this and who are the providers? How does it work? I am still surprised

Politics › Re: Is Nigeria Worth Dying For? by adconline(m): 12:13pm On Jun 17, 2006
If I were to die for  a country, that will not be  Nigeria. Do not get me wrong I'm very patriotic. Nigeria as a country has not given unconditionally for it be died for.  It has not provided social services as enshrined in the constitution for its citizenry. Its leaders have time and time told  us that there is better  place  to save our money, to go to school, to for a medical check up and vacation.

look at the things  I can die for, my faith. my mum., dad, family,  and a worthy cause.  I remember Zik's address to the nation where he said that Nigeria should longer be regarded as an expression of geography, but  a reality. Nigeria is  still an expression of geography created for an administrative convenience.

I can die for a worthy cause to save Nigeria from abyss  of desolation , but not Nigeria.

cmon we are grown ups. do you need to smack a guy you see in your girlfriend's house? I was not brought that way. Mind you he never said that he paid for the apartment. They were all visitors.
Guy, you ve got to consider your options. Resist the guy's offer first and see what becomes of your girl's position.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Barcelona Fc Are 2005/2006 UEFA Champions! Arsenal Defeated: (in Pics) by adconline(m): 7:52am On May 18, 2006
Gunners outclassed Barca during the first half, but lost form during the second half. Henry's selfish style also contributed to their failure. He had two great chances to lead comfortably, but tossed them away. It was a good fight. The officiating was below UEFA standard. I think its high time referee's decisions are subjected to  an electronic/video evaluation. Until this is done, Americans will forever chide soccer
Romance › Re: Need Help On Office Romance Problem by adconline(m): 4:26pm On May 17, 2006
Hey,
U got to be really careful, cos most email conversations are prone to eavesdropping. You may think that your email exchanges are secure, but they  go through a central server which is manned by your IT administrator. I do not know know what kind of network platform your company is employing, but  most companies use intranet, so its very easy for a third party to access your mail.

Finally, is it really worth it to flirt with this fellow and lose your job? Most hard working people are not the richest, but smartest people. Do not work hard, but  work smart.
Romance › Re: Can There Be True Love Without Money? by adconline(m): 6:09pm On Apr 29, 2006
Well said , I have this Webster Lexicon Dictionary with my favourite quote " its often said that money will not buy you everything, but  have you ever tried buying without money". I guess  you will then know the  value of money. Please money is a facilitator. Unless you meant that  money was not used to woo  you over. Check out  all the movie tickets, gifts, eat outs, good looks and lots more. Being in love makes you  most times to compete and impress your partner. These you got to with some money.
Politics › Re: Obasanjo Bashing: Have Your Say! by adconline(m): 5:48pm On Apr 29, 2006
Democracy they say is a journey not a destination. It does not revolve around personality but institutions. If OBJ had wanted he could have created those channels through which democracy can flourish. Let's look at security and rule of law. Nigeria is not safer than he met it in 1999. Bola Ige was killed in his own home , up till today no one has been held accountable. His govt dilly-dallied this case until Bola Ige’s family became frustrated as alleged by Muyiwa Ige. If this govt could find out who killed   Mr Ige, Chief Prosector and Attorney General, then who is to be trusted?

Marshall Harry was murdered on Wednesday, 5th March 2003 at his Abuja residence.  He was a former National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-South, Niger Delta.  He later decamped to ANPP before 2003 general elections. Mysteries surrounding his death are yet to be unraveled.
Alfred Aminasaori Kala Dikibo was murdered on the night of Friday, February 6, 2004. Until death Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-South.  This govt still does not have any clue.

Latest in our memories, Abubukar Rimi's wife was murdered in a cold blood. No one is taking responsibility. This is a fundamental failure of this govt. The core reason why govt is in place is to protect its citizenry.

Government is a collection of people's will entrusted into the hands of elected officials that would in turn carry out those intentions according to the   wishes of the people.
It’s very delusional to assert that OBJ is indispensable to Nigeria. Reasons;  he was dragged into presidency by  our military and feudal class and he has always acted to protect those vested interests. He really never wanted to become a President “ he said, how many presidents do want to produce out of me ?’’ He never prepared to lead Nigeria, never had a mindset of becoming a president. By the way, he became a Head of State by default- Murtala Muhhamed was assassinated for him to ascend into that throne.  This is like sending your son to a medical school, even though he never aspired to become a medical doctor. You just paid his way through. I got a question- would you allow him to perform any form of surgery on you?  You better fill in the blank space. `

This govt does have any regard for the law. He has continually disobeyed court rulings. Case in point ; Lagos state govt Vs Federal govt. This even made Chief Justice of the Federation to cry foul. I want us to know that the democracy was coined by someone and implemented by some other people. This world runs by conventions; time zones, latitudes, longitudes, etc. We can decide to come up with our own time zone or country code; instead we choose to follow a precedent. We need to set democratic precedents by respecting our constitution. OBJ could lay the foundation   for a viable democratic society. What makes us think that any administration that comes after him will  not change the constitution?  Let us remember that Hitler was democratically elected, like  wise Robert Mugabe, so were Hosni Mubarak of Egypt,   Omar Bongo of Gabon  and Yoweri Museveni  of Uganda, etc` We need to  set  some democratic precedents and conventions that will always be strictly adhered to.

It is an insult to over one hundred million Nigerians that they cannot  produce a reputable  leader yet this  nation that has  produced likes   former Common Wealth Secretary General, former Rotary International   President,  noble laureate,  former World Bank vice president, notable scientists, legal luminaries, and lots more. Nigeria is not devoid of talent to lead us to the promise land, but devoid of political will to open up the political space to allow for new blood. We can do better.
