Zhunnurayn:Good question. The loans from China is priced between 3 to 7% for African countries including Nigeria with no strings attached, but those from IMF and world bank is priced between 15 to 35% to African countries with stringent clauses like removal of subsidy and local currency devaluation... Mind you, same IMF loans to Western countries are priced at about 1 to 4%. Back to the 'whys' : Most African leaders have resorted to borrowing from China to fund capital budgets and that doesn't board well with the Western powers. So they force African leaders to take those loans with threats of strong consequences if they dare to object. And because most African leaders got to power with the support of external (western) government, they just have to comply. Failure to do so means that such government will be toppled and overthrown or his country thrown into chaos. Another reason why African leaders take these loans is to further enhance their ability to loot unchecked and unnoticed. You only loot when there's surplus. And when the terms of those loans are implemented in full, you'd be left in an unending loop of borrowing because by the end, your currency will be worthless and cost of governance will always be higher than your revenue. Remember that bulk of the revenue would have gone into loan repayments. |
HeatSeeker:There's no truth in what he said. A poor country with the highest paid politicians in Africa and one of the best paid in the world. We can't be as poor as he described and pay our politicians so handsomely. That's like saying a family is poor, yet they own a house and live in Ikoyi VGC, ride a bullet proof SUV, most of their kids school abroad, but someone somewhere tells you that they're a poor family. A country with over 200 million population with most of them youth is not poor. Don't let them sell that narrative to you. The West are the ones dealing with us for trying to romance with China by using world bank and IMF loans to stiffen their hold on us and our economy. They force our leaders into collecting loans with crazy interest rates up to the point where our total revenue equals total cost of debts servicing. Another thing they're doing is to use poverty and insecurity to keep our population in check. It is when you eat well and live in peace that you'd want to marry and give birth, but when the country is this hard, nobody will caution anybody to limit the number of kids they'd have. With hyperinflation, how many people can afford to feed themselves, how much more feeding another grown up adult (wifes) and kids. Even if you can, security threats mean that you're either going to be a victim or you'll always watch your back. And in such situations, the chance of population explosion is minimal. If you check our population growth between 1960 till date and use that data to forecast our growth in another 50 years if we continue to increase in numbers unchecked, baba, India and China might soon have us rivaling them in terms of population, and the resources used for catering to the needs of that much people is not readily available anywhere. So, their justification to use quasi-natural causes like hunger and insecurity as a tool to checkmate our growth appears understandable. Bring it home and ask people around you how many kids they wish to have if the present inflation continues and let's hear their feedback. The bad news is that there's no government official that'll come on air to tell you all these things. You have to use your tongue to count your teeth. |
ColonelMichael:Wow...😳😯 It appears that you know so much about the Palestinian story before 1948. You also know so much about Islam already. I wish you well. Byebye 👋 |
ColonelMichael:Absolutely...! The need to learn about Islam cannot be overemphasized. Just as it's the same with learning anything else in life before building your bias for or against that thing, it'll help you make informed decision about the religion of Islam and you'd not just gulp in everything the western media throws at you hook, line and sinker. |
Jostoman:You need to unlearn and relearn whatever it is that you've learned about global politics and power, particularly as it relates to the US. Watch the video below 👇 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooMCvGlbbc4?si=gQtqPrUo2_SJTGfW |
VULCAN:WOW...😳 See who's talking.... just listen to yourself! I should go and educate myself or you should go unlearn to relearn ![]() So who are the terrorists in West Bank if I may ask? I guess they're the Christians of Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus. |
So they're terrorists in West Bank too? When will you people stop falling for cheap Israeli propaganda? There's no Hamas in West Bank. |
Beverlyjean:By the definition of the bolded above, it is safe to say the UK, France, Belgium, Germany, Israel and the US are all terrorist nations. The facts are there if it interests you to learn about. They've all killed people in hundreds of thousands or millions, but because they dictates the perception about anything, they're in charge of telling you who's supposed to be a terrorist or not. Some of the cabinet members of Netanyahu is a known terrorist by name Bengovin.... I hope I spelled it correctly. Go read and learn more and stop believing everything you see in the media space. |
Beverlyjean:If at this age and time, and couple with the plethora of materials that are available on the internet, you still see and call Palestinians terrorists, I think you'd be among the people that still think Nelson Mandela is a terrorist because he was once on the US world's terrorist watchlist until recently. Perhaps you might be the type that have crossed his/her mind to unlearning and relearning. |
AntiTerrorist:If God opens your eyes to see the truth, I'm sure you might have a rethink. Perhaps, you might even have a greater chance of making heaven being a Nigerian than being Israeli. |
I'm only here today because I dont have the means to leave. |
Which way Nigeria? |
jidestroud:Where are you coming from? And what day do you intend to go to Alaba? |
Botragelad:Do you even know what journalism entails at all? So BBC journalist that went as far as entering BH and Bandit enclaves to interview them are terrorists themselves? When Palestinian press crew go into tunnels to interview Hamas, they're considered terrorists but if CNN or BBC reporter does the same, they're called all the good adjectives related to their profession. What do you call hypocrisy again? |
Bonapart:I wish you'd take some time to research about what you're commenting on before doing so. The question you should ask yourself is that are the Muslims in the period of Hajj? |
Challenging. |
CandidAdmin:Blaming our leadership problems on hate means that you're not ready to discuss the main challenge bedeviling Nigeria on governance. As it is today, the country is deficient on qualitative leadership. It's endemic to us as Nigerians. Give anybody the chance to govern and you'll see the monster he'd become. And it cuts across. |
CandidAdmin:Nobody's attacking or going to attack you. Look, negativity is human nature and you can't separate humans from it. Some people would prefer to belly their hate while others would be vocal about it either in writing or verbally. That said, those who rule over the land are not on Nairaland or should I say when they gain leadership positions, they stop visiting. Everyone on this forum are a victim of bad governance whether we like it or not... So you shouldn't be venting your anger on people like you and I that are all suffering from the savagery effects of what the society has turned most of us into |
I think ginger farming is simpler than most other kinds of crops.... I planted some almost dried up ginger too and the result were astounding. I only water it once a day and I for a long time, we don't buy ginger in my house. I'm interested in the information you'd get. I hope someone with fast experience in it responds to your post. |
wolesmile:Oh! ..... They swear an oath of secrecy before becoming a JP? Never heard of that before though. |
wolesmile:To him, IDF and Israel do no wrong bcuz they're the chosen ones. "The Lord's people"... All their wrongdoings can be excused and overlooked. |
Moyinoluwa35:That strength you inquired about has been quashed on 20.10.2020 at Lekki Tollgate. The next generation of Nigerian youths that'll summon that strength are not yet borne. It'll take the lifetime of the last youth that of this generation that witness the Lekki event to exit this world before the next generation will ever consider the thought of rising up against the power that be. People have seen first-hand, what might be their fate if they challenge the status quo, and the worst part is that those they died defending will come back to argue and deny that the heros ever died for them. |
You must finish this story ooo... Tell us how you got into rice milling and how you were able to navigate your way even without capital. |
Padipadi:How does your postings or speaking up on Nairaland affect or impact bandits and their next attack or Hamas and Israel? Whether you speak up or not, your opinion changes nothing. Anyways, continue with your ways. |
Padipadi:And you have to decend so low to their level to make your point? |
Padipadi:Wetin concern IDF and Hamas with Naija wahala naw? Must every conflict around the world be linked to Nigeria? |
Destinygsd:Pictures make threads such as this a lot more engaging and interactive but if it's just text-based, people won't connect to your story and won't be able to live in your experience. You might want to try using a different browser. Nice work you're doing. I'm a big fan of homestead. |
Destinygsd:The native chicks and boiler ... Drop update and pictures. My guess is that you're not using a paid data subscription to upload those pictures. |
Yugoslavia247:Go and educate yourself. The conflict between Israel and Palestine is not one borne by religious differences. |
I pray to have a free time to write an objective detailed, yet concise piece about this age-old Israel and Palestine conflict. People need to educate themselves and stop this stupidity of "God's own people". There's nothing going on in the land of Palestine and Israel put together that suggests that they're God's choice people... |
Strange things happen. Canhe remember booking a flight ticket back to Nigeria or he flew down like the bird he saw in his dream? |
