Business / KWASU Tops CAC Business Registration Chart In Nigeria by Adefaze(m): 11:10am On Mar 12, 2017 |
The Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has topped the business registration chart of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria. This was brought to the fore by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor AbdulRasheed Na’Allah at the opening ceremony of the 5th Entrepreneurship Directors’ Conference (EDC), organised by the Centre for Entrepreneurship. According to Na’Allah, the University has recorded enormous achievements in the area of entrepreneurship, part of which he said, is the training of its students to become entrepreneurs, adding that it is mandatory for all students of the University to have registered businesses before they can graduate. While encouraging students to focus more on entrepreneurship as they would make more money from it than the salaries they would earn in many organistaions, he noted that the University would create an Incubation Centre for the students in support of their businesses. He said the Incubation Centre would house secretariat services and all the students would need to start up full-fledged businesses after graduation. The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted that KWASU is the first and only University in Nigeria with a degree in Entrepreneurship and that the intention was to produce certified teachers in Entrepreneurship. Also speaking at the event, the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship, KWASU, Dr. Hakeem Ajonbadi, saidthe 2016 EDC was to invoke the thought processes and tools that generate effective and productive entrepreneurship to act as major catalysts for social and economic progress. Ajonbadi explained that the conference which is a forum for Directors of Entrepreneurship Centres of various tertiary institutions in the country had a goal to effect both incremental and structural changes. Lamenting the high lending rate of banks, he said“governments reduced budget deficits but apply greater pressure on sometimes the most vulnerable in society; economies seek innovative solutions but government and firms ignore possibilities for democratising opportunity search and realisation. " We seek global solutions but appear to entrench local problems; and the world is seen sometimes as technologically flat but spatially and contextually spiky. The forum will deliberate on ecological, financial, technological, governance and leadership issues.’’ He stated further that the conference would provide a launch platform for an entrepreneurial resolution of the problems of social sustainability and economic security. In addition, Dr. Muritala Awodun, the pioneer Director of the Centre and Chairman, Kwara State Internal Revenue Services, said the conference was conceived by KWASU five years ago with the aim of bringing together Directors of Centres for Entrepreneurship in various tertiary institutions to have a forum to share opinions and discuss ways to better the various Centres for Entrepreneurship that were more or less imposed on most of those tertiary institutions by the National Universities Commission(NUC) five or six years ago. ``At that time, there was a lot of confusion in the air and most institutions didn’t really know what to do or how to go about it and since KWASU had started the Centre for Entrepreneurship two years before imposition by the NUC on the other institutions, we felt that it would be nice for us to bring all the Directors together and we will have a common frontier to exchange ideas and learn from one another,’’ he said. While regretting that the turnout of Directors at the conference is deteriorating over the years and seeking redress, Awodun urged the Centre to work more closely with the community and get feedbacks from them as they are the consumers of its products and services. The conference had as its theme‘Consolidating Stakeholders’ Synergy for Sustainable Entrepreneurship Development in the Nigeria Tertiary Education’. lalasticlala seun http://kwasu.edu.ng/index.php/edc-2016-kwasu-tops-cac-business-registration-chart-in-nigeria

Crime / 20-year-old Steals Motorcycle At Police Headquarters In Osogbo by Adefaze(m): 4:44pm On Oct 20, 2016 |
A Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has sentenced 20-year-old Abeeb Wasiu to three months’ imprisonment for stealing a motorcycle from the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo. The convict was, however, given the option to pay a fine of N10,000. A police prosecutor, Mr. Mereti Wilson, had told the court when the suspect was arraigned that Wasiu stole a motorcycle, marked, SGB 767 QB, belonging to one Wodi Michael from the police headquarters on August 23, 2016, at about 11am. The prosecutor told the court that the offence contravened Section 303 and was punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, volume II, Law of Osun State, Nigeria. The charge read, “That you, Abeeb Wasiu, on August 23, 2016, at about 11am, at the Osun State Police Command Headquarters, Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did steal one Boxer Bajaj motorcycle, with number plate, SGB 767QB; chassis no, MD 218AZ6DWM64355; and engine no DUZYWDM93608, property of one Wodi Michael, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 383 (1) and punishable under Section 390 ( 10A) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 11, Law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.” Waisu, who had no counsel, pleaded guilty to the offence and begged for clemency. The magistrate, Mrs. A. Bashiru, sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment or a fine of N10,000. source: http://www.adefazeblog.com/2016/10/20-year-old-steals-motorcycle-at-police.html Mynd44, OAM4,lalasticlala |

Education / My Experience As A Scholar In A Course I Never Applied For - Alao Tope by Adefaze(m): 2:14pm On Aug 09, 2016 |
It is that time of the year again where students are offered admissions into different University of their choice. Note I said “University of their choice”. Some are lucky to be offered the course they have passion for why some might be fortunate to get those they didn’t apply for. I was among the second category when I was offered admission into the prestigious University of Ilorin to study a course I didn’t applied for, Geology. I actually applied to study Electrical and Electronics Engineering with the hope of becoming the next generation Engineer and my dream to produce new electronics that will change the climate of technology in this country. For those who are experienced, they might have thought that my definition for Electronic engineering in this country might be different from what it was. It was on a good morning when I received a call from my friend who told me I have been offered admission to study Geology. I was happy to hear I finally got admission after waiting for some months at home. But I never knew the meaning of Geology, so I went to search a dictionary to check out the meaning of Geology, where I got to know that it is the study of the earth and it physical phenomenon. With my attitude of wanting to know more about my environment coupled with the desperation to gain admission into the University, I accepted the admission and got serious about it. At the beginning of the semester I have already finished a whole text on GNS which I got from a friend of mine who got admission before me. Later on in the semester I visited the library every day to learn new things to get fresh idea on how the earth work. These I think helped build a strong foundation for myself. With my passion increasing for the study of the earth, I took various courses during my 100level days, some physics, chemistry and mathematics, which doesn’t pose a threat to me since I originally wanted to study engineering. It was until second semester that I started offering Geology courses now I can use all that I’ve have learnt during my first semester days to pass my exams easily. When my result was released, I was expecting to make average grades, but to my surprise I got 8 A’s and 2 B’s during my first semester and lots of A’s during my second semester too. But I was not sure then if I got the best result in my department. It was a nice experience for me, as I received free goodies from school which includes huge cash and free accommodation, hopefully till the end of my programme. I only got to know I am the scholar on the convocation day. This is my story and I hope it motivate you irrespective of your status, whether you have been offered admission of your choice or something else. Always remember that no discipline is a waste of time. It will definitely add some values to your life. Education / What's Next After Secondary School?? by Adefaze(m): 1:52pm On Jul 28, 2016 |
http://www.adefazeblog.com/2016/07/life-after-high-college-school-secondary-university.html Congratulation to the newly graduated high school students, Class of 2016! A big well done applause to you. You’ve adhered through your secondary school years, and have made it out the other side. Well done! Again. Just like me, you’re left thinking “what’s the next thing to do?”. You dont have to worry coz this post is for those of you who just graduated from secondary school and are preparing to continue your journey to either a university, polytechnic or colleges of education. Whether you loved or hated your school, you still can’t forget that school building and structure that you called home. Graduation can be a bit of memory. Suddenly you’re not a secondary school student anymore, and you’re not a university student yet. You’re just an adult, but you’re (maybe) still living at home with your parents/guardian. You’ve just accomplished one of life’s greatest important events, and you have the next on the range of experience. The period between my graduation and the first day of polytechnic was one of the longest, slowest, and best moments of my life. I graduated in early July 2012, but my Polytechnic in Ede, didn’t resume until late November that same year. More than four months of undefined time was ahead of me, and I was nearly crazy trying to figure out what to do with all those empty days. Here’s my advice on what to do with your time between secondary school graduation and higher education. It’s somewhat based on what I did, and somewhat based on what I wish I’d done. I recommend you take the time both to look back and to plan forward. What to do during those period before higher institution 1. READ! READ!! Yea! Read lot of books. The period before I went to polytechnic, I booked an appointment to meet of one of my old tutors, asking for recommendations on what to do before going to polytechnic. His advice which I think was helpful was that I should dust my textbooks and start reading broadly again. The key thing is, you’ll be reading more in higher institution than you ever have in your entire life. Let reading be your habit. Read some books you might see again, or might help you identify areas of particular interest. Read something on a subject or you’ve never encountered before. Find something different and exciting. And read and read and read. 2. TRAVEL Whether you can take a long distance trip with friends or family, or whether this means just wandering through different parts of your city where you grew up. Go see the tourist attractions in your hometown. Visit museums, amusement parks, zoos. Get lost somewhere near home, and find your way back. Travel by bike, on foot, on a road trip. Travel to a different state. Just do something new. Traveling is a great way to take advantage of this time, and you'll be glad of the stories when everyone asks what you’re doing with this period. Learn to travel, and see what you find. 3. SPEND TIME WITH FAMILY AND OLD FRIENDS Spend some time with all the people who are important to you. Your relationship with these set of people will inevitably change when you leave for school. Some friends you keep, and some will fade a bit. Take time to build some new memories with everyone who has been helpful to your journey up until this point. 4. WORK I highly recommend a part time job. Ideally a somewhat flexible one. Do it for the adventures that money will buy, or the experience you can put on your CV because sometimes even not fun jobs can lead to cool opportunities in the future. 5. ACQUIRE SKILLS Do a bit of preparation, Learn to do something: To cook some basic meals, Learn some computer packages, and learn some basic tech fixes and troubleshooting while you’re at it. If you’ll be driving at school, find out how to look after your car if you haven’t already. Take a little survey of all of the things grown ups have to do to make one week smoothly follow the one before. Can you do these things? If not, this is a great moment to ask for help while still at home. 6. CLEAN UP Mostly what I mean by this is, pack up all the childhood stuff that is less meaningful to you now. That doesn’t mean throwing everything away unless you absolutely have to, I know I had about eleven pairs of under wears I hadn’t put on in years, but was keeping, just in case. If it’s important, keep it. If it’s not, pack it up, give it away, or dispose it. You’ll be happy to have less untidy stuff to deal with when you come back. 7. DREAM Dream about wonderful and beautiful stuff. Write some lists of things you hope you’ll do someday. Make lists of skills you want to learn and concepts you’d like to understand. Write out places you’d like to visit and experiences you’d like to have. Do some dreaming and some scheming. Let yourself go down paths of wild imaginings. Keep these mostly to yourself, or to particularly close friends. This is not a list of set-in-stone plans for your life. This is letting yourself imagine all that could be, and should be kept for reference and inspiration. Keep these lists. Write down their dates. Write new ones as time goes on. Then you’ll never be stuck for ideas when you find yourself with time on your hands. 8. LEARN NEW THINGS Learn one new thing, from start to finish. Maybe it’s something practical, like how to create a website or how to speak different languages or First Aid. Or how to sing, play drums or guitar. Learn how to motivate yourself and how to manage your time, and also, teaching yourself something is awesome. 9. SAY THANK YOU Take a bit of time to appreciate and affirm all those who have supported you in life thus far. Send thank-you greetings, letters or emails. Thank old teachers, tutors, bosses, family friends, mentors, and friends. This is good practice at all times in your life, but particularly when closing one chapter and moving to the next. Write a list and send a few words to all those who’ve helped you so far. Showing gratitude is one of the truest virtues, and thanking the people who have helped you is one of the best things you can do for making the world a better place. 10. DON’T WORRY Try really, really hard not to worry. University will have its own challenges too, but you will find your suitable place. Make friends, get through your classes, and generally find your way through. Relax, deep breaths, and enjoy this period!. http://www.adefazeblog.com/2016/07/life-after-high-college-school-secondary-university.html If this article is helpful, please check out my other post Seven Reasons Why You'll Always Be Broke As Student and The Best Way To Deal With A Bad Result cc Fynestboi, olawalebabs, Richiez, lalasticlala, seun. |

Education / Basic Skills You Must Learn Now Before Going To Any Higher Institution by Adefaze(m): 7:31pm On Jul 22, 2016 |
One thing is clear, higher institution is a lot different than secondary school. Not only when it comes to academics, but your personal lifestyle as well. You no longer have immediate access to your parents who cook your meals, watch your clothes, pick you up from school and assist you with other things that go by unnoticed.
