Smh Before you write on any issue I'd advice that you make proper research into the subject matter. One thing you must realise is that the only constant thing in life is change and when. In today's medical world due to the ever growing health challenges and nEed for better care other professionals in the health sector don't just stop at getting first degrees, they are specializing in different areas in their chosen fields to better eqyip them do peform their fxn better. All this is geared towards better patients care. Unfortunately Nigerian Drs see it as a threat to them because they feel if others are granted consultancy rights they will come to their level. There is no point disputing the fact that Drs are leaders in the health care team. The mark of a true leader is to do your job and ensure that ur team mates also do theirs. They cannot do so if they are nor trained to. Nigerian Drs should come down from their egocentric world and emulate what other countries are doing then we would be the better for it. I'll ask why is it that they are always quick to go on strike with any liTtle misunderstanding? Why can't they try every other possible means b4 resrting to strike? what JOHESU is demanding for Is not out of place but it is happening all over the world. As far as I'm concerned this matter is not worth the lives that have been lost and are still being lost everyday due to this strike. |
THE National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has fallen foul of Section 2 of the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007 by not remitting to the federation account an operational surplus amounting to N1.439 billion as demanded by Law, the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) has said. FRC noted that the Act made it mandatory for government agencies such as NAFDAC to remit certain percentage of their operational surplus to the Federation Account. “Notwithstanding the provisions of any written law governing the corporation, each corporation shall establish a general reserve fund and shall allocate thereto at the end of each financial year one-fifth of its operating surplus for the year,” the section provided. “The balance of the operating surplus shall be paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federal Government not later than one month following the statutory deadline for publishing each corporation’s accounts.” Speaking in Abuja yesterday on issues relating to NAFDAC’s Audited Financial Statements of 2007 to 2009, the FRC Head of Policy and Standard, Mohammed Ola Tijani, said: “We have reviewed your accounts from 2007 to 2009 and discovered that you have to pay N1.439 billion to the federation account as demanded by law.” According to Tijani, “a close look at NAFDAC’s account shows that it generated N491, 252 million surplus in 2007, N857, 132 million in 2008 and N607, 680 million in 2009 but paid N64, 048 million to the federation account in 2007, N93 million in 2008 and N105, 000 million respectively. “The account books also indicate that NAFDAC’s 2007 outstanding stood at N427, 204 million, N763, 565 million in 2008 and N502, 680 million in 2009. Meanwhile, the Acting Chairman of FRC, Victor Chinemeren Muruako, has warned that NAFDAC would be sanctioned if it delays the payments. He said: “I would have appreciated if the DG of NAFDAC was here. “I will only appeal to your management to hurriedly pay this money to government’s purse, failure of which will make us to write damaging reports on your agency.” However, he asked NAFDAC representatives to consult with their Director-General on the date for payment. Responding, the Director of Finance and Accounts and representative of NAFDAC, Mr. Ademola Mogbojumi, said the team would relay the message his boss, Dr. Paul Ohi, for prompt action. drchingy: People can lie ooo.Oh shattap!!! Any first class pharmacist can work ANYWHERE.. Watch the capital ANYWHERE! |
drobadebayo: Stopping Implementation of a policy that will constitute anarchy and suing NMA to court by johesu are widely distinct. How come implementation of the policy will constitute anarchy but SGF won't? How come Nigeria is not ripe for consultant pharmacist and nurses but ripe for Surgeon General? For me, both parties are selfish and don't have the interest of the public at heart. |

phantom: we have been doing successful kidney transplants in this country.should I furnish links??Answer the question! Would you have him transplant his organ in Nigeria or go abroad! Yes? No? |
armadeo: pls don't quote eye surgery its as common as mosquitoes in Nigeria, as for organ transplant i don't believe you understand the logistics that follow it( there is a reason that it is not common here in Nigeria) so leave it at that.If you, or les say your cousin (God forbid) has a kidney or liver transplant to do, will you allow your colleagues perform magic on him or send him abroad? |
I'm so voting for Jimi Agbaje! |
Vote for Jimi Agbaje! He has my votes already. |

Lmaoooo!!! Hilarious! |
phantom: childish! in your hurry to embarrass doctors, you didn't even read the article.Did you miss this part? doctor’s negligence was first observed by a High Court judge in 2007 when the doctor, who specialises in obstetrics and gynaecology sent a mother home with pain killers for a headache when she had a fatal blood clot. |
Cool.. |
Samgreguc: the guy is simply saying that accuracy in his job description is what matters not fighting to do the work of a Physician and by so doing don't u think the patient will be affected positively?Sam, God bless you. I'm tired of explaining to the guy. |
sigolisis: Same in pharmacy, I really don't have time to dissect this. A Consultant Pharmacist goes through a similar training rigour after internship and NYSC @ the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacy for a specialty in say Paediatrics or CVD for not less than 6 years.God bless you jor! |
Lmaooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ![]() The acts they get away with, cover it up because a doctor is the CMD. Pls the whole world see this. I dare you to open a thread for people who have lost their loved ones due to doctor's negligence and see how many people we are talking about. Negligence is the middle name of Nigerian medical doctors, they're presently the only ones calling the shots, that's the only reason they get away with the death of innocent patients. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2689359/Anguish-parents-newborn-twin-died-bungling-locum-struggled-speak-English.html Mods, do the needful. |
Royver: Who provides the equipment?Question for the gods. Last bullet: Go on strike to improve your practice. |
sainty2k3: Sorry bros , but pks stop confusing people, a postgraduate training, that's residency in pharmacy makes u a fellow of the highly esteemed college and not necessarily the title consultant ,if u have any link to prove that is what makes a consultant pharmacist pls lemme know.I don't mind if we're are not giving the title consultant. For the reason that, a postgraduate course doesn't make you a consultant in the US doesn't apply to Africa. Here, you need to go through a postgraduate college to become one. That said, whatever process it takes, the roles are the same everywhere. To hell with the title!!! |
Royver: I am currently in a seminar now where we are discussing purchasing a Genexpert machine for use in the easy diagnosis of tuberculosis. It cost N5.2million to purchase. With this machine it will be easy to specifically diagnose tuberculosis no matter how small the sample is, and this will be of immense benefit in people living with HIV/AIDS especially in a country like ours. This is the reply I wanted from the op. How do you think it would be if you channeled this energy into provision of equipments for surgery? |
jpphilips: It is done on a daily basis at one trauma center at Emenike street in PH (cant rem the name), both Nigerian consultants and some brown experts work there, you can take a trip there if you like.I didn't say u're the right candidate for the question. I just asked if you needed the surgery, say eye surgery or Kidney transplant. Would you have a Nigerian medical doctor perform magic on you. |
centje:It's my pleasure sir ![]() |
centje: what's your pointWhat about when you have an eye surgery? Organ transplant? Would you allow a Nigerian medical doctor perform magic on you? Op pls answer! My point is pls strike to improve your practice! Not too stop others from improving their practice! We are tired of going to India. |
jpphilips: There you go again, if there are already existing unproductive hierarchy and cadre in nursing, why do you want more by asking for consultancy? How come you know so much? You're a patient oo ![]() |
chucs: I was looking for unbiased and neutral opinion. There can't be a neutral opinion. It's either you want to improve patient care(JOHESU), or you want us to maintain the status quo(NMA). Our healthcare is presently ranked 196/198 in the world or so, remember that. |
jpphilips: Simple question behooves simple answer, I may not be a health practitioner doesn't mean I left my common sense abroad. One question. If you had a thyroid removal surgery to do, or appendicitis. Or say a cancer removing surgery, would you allow a Nigerian medical doctor do this on you? |
Just look how the geriatric pharmacists in the US put it: What Can a Senior Care Pharmacist Do for You? Printer-friendly version Senior Care Pharmacists are skilled health care professionals who have specialized training in the medication-related needs of seniors. This field of study is called geriatric pharmacotherapy. Special Skills of Senior Care Pharmacists In their roles as medication therapy management (MTM) experts, senior care pharmacists: hold their patients’ interest above all others; take responsibility for their patients’ medication- related needs; ensure that their patients’ medications are the most appropriate, the safest possible, the most effective, and are used correctly; and identify, resolve, and prevent medication-related problems. Typically, senior care pharmacists accomplish this through a comprehensive consultation that provides a thorough, one-on-one review of all of your medications -- prescription, over-the- counter, herbal, and nutritional. But senior care pharmacists go well beyond reviewing medications. A senior care pharmacist has studied and acquired extensive knowledge about and experience in: -Observing and properly assessing the health of seniors; -Advocating healthy living practices and disease prevention for seniors; -Recognizing and understanding diseases and conditions common in the senior population; Identifying medication-related problems that can cause, aggravate, or contribute to common geriatric problems; -Making it easier for seniors to take their medications properly by labeling, packaging and organizing prescription drugs better; and Understanding the role of the caregiver, the financial challenges that seniors can face, and the importance of choosing appropriate care. Some also have demonstrated their special knowledge and training by becoming board-certified geriatric pharmacists. Improving Your Quality of Life In addition to possessing skills specifically tailored to seniors’ needs, senior care pharmacists have a different perspective from most physicians and pharmacists. There’s a tendency for physicians to prescribe and pharmacists to dispense medications for a senior. But a senior care pharmacist would first look to see if the symptom might itself be a side effect of a current medication. What does this mean for you? It’s simple: Do your medications make you sleepy? Is your thinking foggy? Do you feel anxious, confused, or depressed? Do you feel light-headed? Do you sleep poorly at night? All of these symptoms may be related to taking your medications. A senior care pharmacist will evaluate the overall picture of how your medications are affecting your quality of life. This can make a real difference for you and your family! What Services a Senior Care Pharmacist Provides A senior care pharmacist provides one-on-one consultation with you and your family, often in your home or an office, for a reasonable fee. A senior care pharmacist can: Provide professional, unhurried visits, and medication information that is understandable to you, your family, and caregivers Identify and reduce medicated-related problems, such as side effects and drug interactions Eliminate unnecessary medications Simplifying the system for taking medications Offer ideas for improving medication compliance and maintaining the best health Reduce medication costs Serve as your advocate with your physician to ensure the use of the most appropriate medications Promote wellness and disease prevention Identify untreated problems, such as incontinence and depression Watch This Video Watch this video to learn more about what a senior care pharmacist can do for you. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-7ic197sUc In Conclusion In short, a senior care pharmacist can help you stay healthy through appropriate, safe, and effective medication use. jpphilips: You cannot be paid as a consultant just because you are responsible for just an ailment, haba! consultant for HIV pharm, consultant Kidney nurse, consultant cosmetic cleaner, the whole thing should sound ridiculous to you (Hope you didn't chip in the HIV clause to scare meIf at this point, you're still talking about owning the patient, then I have no more words for you. |
