macklef:
Dangote is a damn oppourtunist. With all the billions he has he wants it all.
He wants to be the richest man in the world and to achieve this, naturally
U must step on other peoples growth/sucess.
Greed!!!!!!!!! Upon Vanity!!! Is long term Stupidity!!!!!!
if Dangote is repatriating the profits from his plants all over Africa back home then it should even help the value of the Naira. Nigeria is actually now a country with comparative advantage in cement production. Dangote should be exporting cement and earning forex for Nigeria as we speak.
The story needs careful investigation. How much of Dangote's wealth (18.3bn) was in Naira before the currency lost value, how much of the wealth was in dollars?. If the oil price change that affected the value of the Naira reduced his net worth due to over-exposure to Naira then he might truthfully have needed forex support to build that refinery. In any case that Refinery is a National priority project that needs all the support from government.

That will be a good move, but I doubt the President will take that path....
Please stop all these uninformed rubbish. There has always been a basin development authority in the area since the 70s. Borno and Adanawa states are still No 1 in Agriculture in Nigeria in spite of Boko Haram. The governor of that state unfolded plans for the continued development of the agriculture in the Mambila plateau sone years back even in the midst if set backs. He had been importing agricultural machinery massively from Europe as far back as 2012. There is no new "brilliant" ideas in agriculture only to knuckle down and actualky do something.

Like it is rightly said, after the wedding is over, the marriage begins.
May the tears of the coming days be averted for the sake of the elect-few who saw beyond this whole "buhari-myth". It takes more than myth and intentions to deliver good governance.
Baba in the words of one of yours, "good governance is not rocket science", so by implication it is commonsense, hence i will advise you visit the proponent of commonsense (distinguished Senator Bruce), for a deluge of "commonsense ideas" to move our nation forward.
So you actually admit that Buhari had a myth around him.
The only uncorrupted, maybe incirruptible member of the Nigerian elite. Now you are catching up. A little slow but you are getting there. Buhari is the only man who spoke openly, clearly about corruption. That coupled with an "i wont join the crowd attitude" and spartan discipline are the sources of his mystique
The man who had the most myth was Goodluck Jonathan himself , the man who was never a general or northerener but became head of state. A man like us, born poor, grew up in a normal middle class way , not outstanding in anything but at least very different . He was the man destuned to bring CHANGE
It took only two years for Goodluck to destroy thst mystique with idiotic corruption and cowardly pampering of corrupt officials.

I have been asking myself how Nigeria would have been if Goodluck had tackled the fundamental problems facing Nigeria like Buhar is doing?

Maybe the young girl FFK has just gotten married to has scattered his brains completely.

My uncle told me in 1983-84 when buhari ruled Nigeria, that it was a gory tale. He said the country was on it knees through draconian policies and flagrant abuse of power, military brutality and economic meltdown. I laughed and told him that 1983-84 is totally different from 2015, how wrong was i?

Fast forward to 2016, it dawn on me a one eyed man is the greatest seer in the land of blind men. Now i'm begining to see that which i never saw in 1983-84. Prices of commodities are rising spontaneously, fuel scarcity is back again, massive job cuts ( just yesterday a friend of mine lost his, thank God i'm a private biz guy), no lite for over 2 wks in my area (inspite paying outrageous bills by PHCN extimation), investors are pulling out of the system, just every tin negative one cud think about is associated with the present administration.
Honestly, i'm sick and tired of Nigeria.
This is the Ibo man's view. We almost paid up our debts under Buhari. We were developing our nascent local industries. I actually tell people that Buhari was responsible for all the manufacturing that developed in Aba in the mid 80s. There was no way they could have grown without his policies.

The uncle that told you that you can be successful in any thing without suffering wants to spoil your life. Please get serious

If we borrow 25billion dollars and spend it on infrastructure, Nigeria's economy will grow by leaps and bounds. Nigeria is not Venezuela. Every Nigerian is an entrepreneur. The only thing holding Nigeria back as been corruption, power, roads and railways.

Sincerely, am disappointed with MOST of the comments Fr. Mbaka made in this interview. We are suffering from severe economic recession and he is busy talking same sex marriage! angry
What has that got to do with the high rate of poverty in Nigeria as of today?? Fr. Mbaka pls if you dont want to criticise PMB by telling him the truth, pls dont just say anything @ all..

This is one major reason why Nigeria dont move forward, cause the so called of allies of those in power are busy boot-licking instead of telling the truth and fact! I wont be suprised if PMB ends up like GEJ and worse.

IMO, PMB and his executive have no single clue on how to handle the economic, social and physical crises we experiencing in Nigeria but instead of them to seek opinions on how issues will be handled, They are busy blaming with PMB busy Junkeetering from on continent to another.
Actually turn this around and think about it.
Nobody has a magic wand to solve problems of Nigeria. We voted Buhari in for discipline, probity. Anybody who tells you there is a way out for Nigeria except via hardwork, discipline and zero corruption is lying. Only an antichrist can work such fake magic and it is to people's destruction, Very soon they will pour money into the pockets of the poor through social intervention programes, they may start a massive re-skilling effort targetting technical training institutions, buying products from farmers at market rates, public works projects. All those things will still not solve the problem in a day or solve the problems without sacrifice. The days of overnight millionaires are gone. Oil price will never go up to 124 dollars a barrel again. Never.

Before you insult Fayose or defend Buhari, Kindly think about this statement within your innermost mind and tell me if its true or not.
Thank you.
Please. You judge things yourself . This man is empty.
He has an HND from a backwater polytechnic but because he is Governor and his party is in disarray , he has turned into economic expert. The PDP is a bad party but even you would agree that a party of NOI, Ekwueme, Akinjide, Donald Duke and others is in negative regression when Fayose becomes its mouthpiece.
Buhari should not devalue yet .

The Nigerian economy would not be restructure able if we devalue now. We need to nurture strategic national sectors like oil and gas, small scale manufacturing, textiles, leather and most importantly infrastructure elements like power and railways That is a lot if dollars required in the next few years.

The Ibo man who just set up a factory producing tomatoes puree in Lagos cannot be competing with the Playboy who spends millions in a night club for the same dollars in the same market .
One is value adding and productive and the other is just fun.
Dangote's project in Lagos is a strategic national resource, Mambila dam is a strategic national resource, the textile cluster in the North is a strategic resource. Aba SMEs need to be supported if they can form cooperatives to apply for forex sectorally.

Those are the serious things Buhari should concentrate hard earned foreign currency to support.

Fayose is a governor if a poor state. Actually a very poor state. How will his people cope with devaluation and its effects?.
The price of fuel alone might double if you devalue suddenly. Real incomes will fall. This ex taxi driver should be given a wide berth. Let him open his mouth and vomit but as always silence is ever golden
Politics › Re: Economists To The Rescue. What Is Your Professional Opinion On Naira Devaluation by Adminisher: 2:34am On Feb 22, 2016
Buhari should continue to run the two tier exchange rate.

No devaluation til 2019.

Nigeria would have developed into an economy that can compete then with Dangote refinery coming on stream and improved power from Mambila and other sources.
Most people making noise are just opposition party members who would make the same ridiculing noises if Buhari had devalued.
There is tremendous scope to improve our internal productivity. 50 percent of Nigerias agric production rots away. The railway sector has not started inpacting on the economy. Every thing is via roads. Never mind Jonathan's lies and propaganda. Improving the railways sincerely enough would reduce internal costs within the economy by 100 per cent.

When we have done all these things to improve internal economic productivity, we can then devalue and start competing wirh the Chinas and Bangladesh's of this world
Politics › Re: Nigeria Treasury Losing 90% Revenue Under PMB. by Adminisher: 1:46pm On Feb 21, 2016
Ole boy no vex. What kind of voodoo arithmetic are you doing that proves Nigeria is losing 90 percent revenue?
I like the way you write, it is short and sharp but almost everything else is a BIG LIE .

The Nigerians make foreign exchange when they export. That is not as simple as government revenue.
Goverment revenue is primarily from you and me paying taxes and selling oil and gas.
The foreign exchange thing kicks in only when we need to pay for imports. Nigeria does not exist for dollars. Please get things straight.
Our GDP size and the productivity within our economy ate the determinants of true value and wealth. Thete was an articke in Newsweek magazine a few years ago that the US economy was so big that they coukd grow by trading with themselves alone without internationsl trade . Please stop oversimplifying and turning an opportunity to restructure our economy into a joke.
North Korea , Iran and Russia grew their economies in an regime of internationsl sanctions in the last few years. Nigeria can survive with minimal imports.

The people you shoukd be blaming are the Jonathan administration. Do you know how nuch money Nigeria would have veen making from petrol exports and petrochemical exports if we had had a good president in place of Jonathan?

The OP took some international lies , imposed his own LIES on them and posted it as truth. Why is there such a need to whitewash this man? Is it some social psychology issues?.
Why must this ex President always be like the underdog needing protection from people he should have protected. A lot of you should ask yourselves very serious questions. People must live with consequences of their action or inaction. IBB has worn the toga of the deceitful man who destroyed the Naira, instituted corruption ,Obj is the cruel, egoist who wanted everything to involve him and nearly ran an unconstitutional third term. Even Muhammed who was dynamic is recorded in history as cruel and ruthless. Why must you guys however try to tell lies to whitewash this man, Jonathan?. Is it tribal inferiority complex?, is it that you are scared to admit that the man who was like no other former President who should have brought CHANGE failed woefully?. So it is now up to an ex President, one of the others we always knew to now do the job?
It helps to face the truth and to be honest even Jonathan himself does not support the high marks some of you guys have given him.

if you are talking of since 1960 then it'll be a crime to mention Jonathan's administration as the best. Maybe you can reduce the period to "since 2010"
That is comparing Jonathan to Yardaua, Abacha and Obj.
Obj is far better than Jonathan, Obj started all the free market stuff that Jonathan continued. All the Super ministers that tried to give a push during Jonathan regime; Aganga, Okonjo, Johnson, Adesina ..all came through Obj.
Let us be factual. Even Abacha was more decisive in governance.

Why it is important to say these things is because Nairaland is popular with young people. Leadership is very important. Even if you get things easy like the presidency of Nigeria which more qualified people died chasing with their superior intellect and money like Zik, Awo, Ojukwu and did not get, please take it serious. It is a big honour to be in charge of the destinies of 170million people . This is coming from a guy who was born in 1985. I have said it many times the best of Nigerian youth are abroad studying. It is the low IQ ones remaining here .

In the 1970s under thirty something year old soldiers , Nigeria built all her refineries. No new one has been built ever since.

Nigeria was the fastest growing economy in the world. It was Nigeria , Malaysia , South Korea competing. The oil boom that produced the fastest network of roads that Gowon built was just half of the oil price that Jonathan had to work with.

They have stolen your future and you are praising them. SHAME on you. You are reeling out Okonjo statistics from financial institutions that ripped you off. Why don't you here such glorious rubbish about India, Iran and other self sufficient countries that built the REAL sector instead off fast money financial rubbish

In the sixties igeria air ways was working, Nigerian shipping line was working. Universities were a gem. I went to my aunt 's hostel in UnIfe now OAU and it was like a three star hotel. There was intellect on display in TV programs , there was vibrancy in people.
All the leaders were young and vibrant.

You cannot hide goodness. If Jonathan's regime was good please tell me where are the factories, where are the jobs, where are the first class universities, where are the health centers.

There is a popular saying that emancipation starts with seeing the truth clearly and being honest enough to face it.
