Politics › Re: Power Supply Drops To 2,665MW Due To Explosions, Gas Constraint by Adminisher: 11:59am On Mar 01, 2016
LordAdam:
Don't mind them. It was under GEJ that the first coal electricity production plant was commissioned by a private company. I wonder if that project will be continued, now that Buhari is there. Or if more coal plants will be commissioned by Buhari.

No expert has said we cannot use coal electricity in Nigeria or that we would not derive the same benefits countries like US, China, South Africa and the rest of the world is deriving from using coal to produce electricity.

The worse part is that Nigeria has a very huge market for electricity. The total estimated demand including industries according to MAN is at least 100,000 MW. Then Nigeria can export electricity to the entire West Africa, spreading our influence and bringing in more revenue.

-Lord
Please let us be factual.

There was exactly ZERO construction or commissioning of coal fired plants during Jonathans time. All i remember is an MOU.
Infact the ex minister of power signed more MOUs than contract agreements throughout his term.

Coal is the best and easiest solution but GEJ did nothing to turn around the coal mining sector . All Buhari has done is also mere good intentions as well.

i have said it one million times. investment in embedded power generation is surest way to go. NERC should license independent power operators that can build smaller power plants that ranging from 1megawatts to 59 megawatts to be deployed to large residential estates such as Festac, Gowon estate, Shagari estateand Jonathan estate. cut off the inefficiency associated with grid transmission. Lagos state pioneered it, Anambra state is already started building such facility that for estates such as Ngozika estates in Awka. we really need to investing in off-grid energy solution that's the way forward.
You actually think the world will allow you to do embedded power? No way. Go and read Kyoto and the latest targets. Ten 50MW stations pollute five times more than one 500MW station. If you say you will solve the problem by adding flue gas treatment, the cost of each power plant will double. Embedded power still requires connection to the grid so it is "NEPA substation" kind of thing everywhere.
Osinbajo has brought a better solution . Solar energy at 5MW per apartment and you pay small, small over many years. After each battery bank replacement your bill goes up slightly then comes down again

When people like you are blowing up gas pipelines, you think Buhari will queue at the filling station with plastic container to buy petrol.
Yes if i were Buhari, i would put the whole region on lock down. Full militarization of the place. Let them come and fight Nigerian Army. Since they think they will win, it will last years and they will lose everything . Young people will grow from teenage to thirties fighting. Then they will kniw what curse of war is about.
Maybe that is what the North needs to catch up with the rest of the country.

Generally speaking i am inclined to people suffering when they glorify war. Go and ask kids in Syria. They have lost everything and all the parties fighting will never ever ever get what they are fighting for

The government should invest more on dams.
-It is more reliable and more stable.
-It is less prone to vandalism.
Gas supply has always been an issue in Nigeria year in year out due to vandalism, it is about time we think outside the box and do things differently.
They are looking for money for Mambila dam. I think three clean coal power plabts can be streamed in three years in Enugu or Ajaokuta. Funny enough , a project like Ajaokuta would have been producing gases and heat energy to fire 1000MW

Ovamboland:
The writer only succeded in deceiving himself with his opening of non-affiliation and went right on to repeat the campaign lines used by PDP to denigrate and insult Buhari's candidacy.

He further exposed himself when he eulogized Jonathan for freedom enjoyed by the press thereby cheapening the sacrifice made by ordinary Nigerians of all walks who confronted the most vile military dictatorship we ever had under Abacha going as far as what is termed guerrilla journalism. Our reporters were so valiant, and many were simply killed by the the state then, that the Abdulsalami administration was unable to maintain any further crackdown on media freedom. To reduce that heroics to the magnanimity of Jonathan or even Obasanjo is a big fallacy by the writer. Under both leaders and Yar'adua, there were spurts of intimidation of the media though never large scale as seen before.

The truth is unconstitutional governments like military types can only pretend to guarantee citizen's constitutional rights. Whether the direct in your face dictatorship type led by Buhari from 1983, who sets up tribunals to try accused, or make draconian laws to gag whomsoever will be against their agenda and try to live by their own laws. Or the one who came smiling in 1985, ruling by deceit and subterfuge, repeal the gagging laws but operate according to it anyway, sends letter bombs to it's opponents or accused, or asked us all to tighten our belts but wound up with 50 bedroom mansions, private jets and huge private financial investments.

In all a poorly written campaign material to support the then ruling government's desire for another term, without in insight or farsighted statements. All the allegations of suppression of the press, of women and religious conversion (not mentioned by writer) has not happened
This is exactly what i am saying. It might appear to be a good piece to fresh graduates from UNN or FUTO but it is shallow in the extreme.

Another big lie being told is that the problem of Nigeria can be solved by some kind of "financial innovation" the talent for which was only granted by God to PDP as a party and a select few other people including Jonathan as a person and three others NOI.
LOL. I laugh in kenery language. This is as credible as saying only the thief can manufacture and deliver back to the car that he stole in the first place.

The reality of life and the situation of Nigeria is harsher than this. We have to restructure at a deeply personal level , change paradigms about life and go back to agriculture and production. Farming, small scale manufacturing preferably using only raw materials.
We need to work hard and fight corruption. Young people have to force themselves to learn new skills preferably those that are in direct demsnd in industry. A university degree is probably going to be a disadvantage soon.

This article is intellectually blank. A personal opinion shared by a certain folk from the SE part if Nigeria. What i find funny abiut parochial world views is not the narrowness of them but the lack of reality. The writer obviously thinks Nigeria is defined by a few cities , its needs summarised by the needs of the urban midfle class and time will freeze itself for these demographics.

After he wrote the article, i am sure a lot has happehed. Buhari won the elections, the bottom dropped out of the oil market, Jonathans appointees were mostly all found to be corrupt and Naira lost most of its value . All the smug, self deception has vanished. Nigeria before Buhari was fake. A half educated middle class jerking themselves around thinking they were going places with a currency whose value was deternined by the market performance of volatile commodity. Nigeria was deceiving itself big time throughout the PDP regime.

There is no modern economics. There is production, creation of value, supply chain, global sales , earning of foreign exchange and re investment of same. We cannot jerry-rig success without hard work, discipline and lack of corruption.

Thanks @theshadyexpress, this is but a fraction of roads reconstructed under Dr Jonathan.
Great article.
Reconstructed. We want to see NEW roads.

Let me also tell you. The East west road contract has been awarded about six times by PDP governments, the money chopped and then the contract re awarded. When they really want to scam, they award a road contract, appropriate the money, secure a chinese loan for the same project, then later convert it into PPP.

The things that PDP did with roads in Nigeria are ten times more criminal than Dasuki gate. Osinbajo was not scratching the surface

What about Kawu Baraje, a Chairman of Nigeria Railway Corporation in most part of GEJ era that led nPDP to APC? Is he absolved?

What about the light rail fraud of Fashola and Amaechi in Lagos and Rivers respectively? Are they clean?

On the subject, the investigators/prosecutors should do their work and go to court BUT APC shouldn't seek to score cheap point with this. Beside, the Transport minister under GEJ and NRA are to respond.
You are owning corruption subliminally when you post this. My advice to most Jonathan supporters or SE/ SS people is to separate the man/people from the party or tribe to protect the party or tribe. There are many incorruptible and uncorrupted PDP members yet many APC memvers if you gave them Nigeria to run, it would be like "Gone in sixty seconds" and it is our treasury that i am talking about o.. not a sportscar.

The Senate President is APC, yet PDP supporters find themselves defending him. Whyhuh?

Nigeria has a steady hand now. Good luck Jonathan was running a loose ship. He was even too afraid to go and read his own budgets. That was how clueless that President was. Only five ministers knew what they were doing and for them, they started too late, Aganga or had their policies destroyed poli thieves e. g Adesina whose agric progranme was arguably all flash but was furthet wrecked by importation of rice and palm oil.
Politics › Re: APC Zombies Are The Most Unstable Creature On Planet Earth by Adminisher: 5:28am On Feb 29, 2016
APC is a very intellectual party. Their supporters are smart, young , urban dwelling professionals. It is easy for them to understand that there is no difference in policy thrust in the 5k for the worst unemployed youth which is the VP's pet programne and Buhari's insistence that the young people do some work for it. So what will happen eventually is public construction works by direct labour and a minimum salary of 18k per youth.

The programme is already in the budget anyway so it appears the PDP zombies are the ones in la la land about it.

These are the kinds of investments the Buhari government should not depend on or reckon with. " the bureaucracy lacks depth". Do you understand what that means?. GEJ stripped the civil service of ability to function as the FG was completely privatised. I know for instance that Okonjo was working with only international consultancy companies throughout -like Mckinsey whilst turning the bureaucracy to mere file pushers. Jonathan's government also stripped the ministries of files and key information. Buhari is actually building a government from the scratch.
