That's life sha, the harder you work, the lesser you earn.

The lesser you work, the higher you earn.

Your "life theory" no work for people like me oooo. What I earn today, though not billions, I am able to command it through heavy, heavy hard work over the years plus God blessing the heavy, heavy sleepless hard work.

Your theory of "the lesser you work, the higher you earn", it surely won't work for people like me oo.

I had to respond to you.

Don't fool yourself bro, sorry if I am harsh. If you're top in education the same way Hazard is top in football, you will be making millions just a few years after working, yes working, in certain areas or even owning your business. I know of boys making millions of dollars per year, yes they went the education route.

Don't fool yourself (the word fool is not meant to curse you but to push you). If it's education you have, I hope it's not too late for you to be a top, world class student the same way Hazard is a top, world class player.

All the best

I pity those of you that are not "daughters-in-law" to a governor.

The truth is, if you are from a poor family, decent grade in school remains your best bet to a decent post-school life.

Lol, Jarus, what you've said cannot be truer. I tell them, I tell people this same thing. Do not use exceptions as rules. Ceteris paribus, it is easier to make it with decent-to-top grades than with none.

I tell my family members and younger friends, don't come and be a burden to me oo. Do what you do excellently well, and then I will splash resources on you to support you..

Meanwhile, one of your "egg heads" (I forget his name now) was invited all the way from naija to Boston for the HBS African conference this year. I had an interesting conversation with him. Humble guy. He seems to be intersecting technology with asset management in a nice way, said he resigned his oil job. Perhaps another billionaire in the making.

Young people, push and do your best - push more if you are from a background of lack. Eventually, your chances of succeeding will be higher.

Actually some education are societally valueless. Like this one. That man will be retiring soon if not already. Given his age ( he talked about studying in the era of Old Western Region), his PhD which took 25 years to obtain in 2016, will only be useful for less than 5 years. That's total crap.

Lol, he has since been useful. Sometimes you don't need a PhD to be useful or to do research at the very highest level.

Wasted life and a wasted generation!

Education in Nigeria is a scam!

There is something which is so terrible about the education system in our public institutions, some lecturers derive pleasure in seeing students wasting away all in a bid to acquire a certificate.

No, this is not wasted!! NO talk so.

That guy produce some very top guys doing great things in Naija and elsewhere.

I am one of the products smiley

This man was a solid lecturer of differential equations and mechanics in those days at Lag. I respect this man so well because in the early 2000's when I took my average secondary school results to Unilag to try and see who can advise me, he was one of the people who took me into his office and gave me one or two pieces of advice.

This man na solid man, congrats Dr Adeniyan. We hail thee!

Is this for real?

I mean a page has an average of 300 words.

So you're saying you want to pay 50 Kobo per word?

And what's with all the qualification requirements?

Or are Indians now on Nairaland?

Your organization name should be changed to Slaver's Bay

Stop saying what you know nothing about. Where was it stated that a page has 300 words? Or must a page have 300 words? Some of you just attempt so hard to sound smart.

As I told one of your likes, you're not better than the people working for us.

so are you going to define the success of a group just because one man is successful..that is what the tv people show you..Nigerians are top brains in the US/UK but how many are they?

the reality is that they are not plenty just few. how many Nigerians are top brains in the us/uk compare to the millions of white and black americans working in the US? what the media just showed you is an outliner among a certain group, even our top Nigerian brains cant compete with millions of UK/American native-born doing similar stuff because they control the system.

the only place where you will see an abundance of top brains is not abroad but in your home country(Nigeria)

Your argument sounds correct and makes sense. However, I am not using one broom to sweep all. The point is, many Nigerians are doing well abroad just as many are NOT doing well. The same is true for Nigerians in Nigeria.

Or perhaps my views are very biased because these are mostly the Nigerians I know of here..

Lol
Thou I hate arguments
You earn 120k annually, how does your savings looks?
And you think 120k is a lot of money abroad ?

Italy lol
I'm actually taking about Canada

When I earned 130K (NET), roughly 190K( GROSS), I could save HALF of my pay. You can't force me to conform to the thesis you're trying to propagate. Good job is hard everywhere. if you get very nice job in Naija or Abroad, you can save well, even after all expenses.

It's not all gloom and doom...Naija boys are earning 600K, after tax, 400K. This is true for some who hit the big jobs.

I agree that majority of Nigerians will not be in that category, but the same argument is true for Nigerians in Nigeria. Most will not earn 1M per month working salary work.

So, yes, even a GROSS salary of 120K is a very nice salary in the US. It puts you in the TOP 15-20% of earners in the country, in the US, "one" of the richest countries in the world.

I'm sure you lived abroad, so you can easily verify these numbers..

That's why I hardly comment on a situation like this.
Expecting advice from Nigerians grin

U did exactly like me.
I worked my ass off abroad 'one of d best country in d world o' that's when I realized those countries are overhyped. The pay looks good but not enough after paying house rent, foods and TP.
God saved me I returned to see the opportunities I left behind.
I thank God
I'm visiting that country 3 times a year now on 2wks stay each

You for state the country now, lol

In America, if you get top jobs, 120K is doable. At some point, I earned 130K and could easily save nearly half..This na ontop after meeting heavy responsibilities from a myriad of friends and family..

So, again, the abroad matter. Italy na developed country, I lived there, but I won't go settle there...Your description fits places like Italy

Bro come to USA. If you can find a way to come to the USA, you won’t regret it. Although the job is not that easy especially for international student on F1, but trust me if you have a masters degree in STEM, there is hope for you. Infact most of the STEM guys I know already got high paying jobs at Fortune 500 companies.

I know the US visa ain’t easy, but if you can find a way to get here, you won’t regret it.

Although the US is not without its faults, I partially agree with you on the above.

In general, the OP is better in the US or even UK as a PhD student than Germany. Africans with German PhDs hardly get jobs in Germany...This is not so in the UK rara. I have boys who will be professors in a few years at UK schools....

i love that bolded statement..most nigerians won't get that statement..they think if they go abroad, the white man will start giving them the good jobs, what they forgot is that you also have your own country, they have their and every country motive in this world is to maintain future prosperity among their own native..that is what nigerians dont understand..as a nigerian you are always a foreigner to them even if you assimilate, the most lucrative jobs will be given to their white citizens first before they can consider you that is why i laugh when Nigerians shout racism and discrimination when a less qualified white gets a job over a qualified Nigerian or Africans ..it is their country not yours, if you want similar special treatment build your country

It depends on where you are. Top Nigerian brains/even above average Nigerians brains in the US/UK I know of are actually working solid job.

The other day, they featured this naija guy on bloomberg or one of these finance stations. I can tell you, that guy easily makes 600K. He is not even 40 in my estimation. Pure Naija

So, it depends on the abroad. Germany, while being one of the best countries I have lived, is not known to offer that kind of opportunities to outside-EU people.
