So, the guy has finally agreed? That we even spent time debating this is another wonder. Maybe the person seconding his motion needs to do a u-turn too. |
sbucareer:My dear, learn to make statements you are sure of. What has superman got to do with the discussion? That someone can do something well and on time too does not make the person a superman, the person may have taken time to learn what he needed to learn. As for being eager to undertake tasks just to get paid, I can assure you that not everyone is like that. I removed the link to my business website over 4 months ago because of the number of requests I get especially from this forum for web projects ranging from basic static websites to dynamic (database driven web projects). Over 70% of requests are usually turned down at my firm so do not mistake my comments to mean soliciting for the job as I cannot even accept any new jobs (that require programming) for the next 2 months. sbucareer:Please know when to draw a line between wants and needs in any application you may want to develop. Even google started with just one thing in mind, search. And that explains why nothing concrete will come out of any arrangement until the developer and the owner are very clear on what needs to be done and how those things should be done. sbucareer:Grouping users and access rights are the simplest of tasks if you asked me. Yes, anyone can login to the system and view all the finance record or student records if the owner wants such functionalities. I did state earlier that a fundamental and complete knowledge about data manipulation is all that is required to web enable any business process. sbucareer:I do not know if you have tested all the enrolment software out there to come out with such statement. To differentiate one book from another all that is required is to have parameters that must be unique for a particular book like author name, isbn, date published, title. It is very unlikely for you to have 2 books with exactly the same parameters as the ones stated. sbucareer:Again, it is important to know where the responsibility of the web developer ends and where that of the business owner begins. Conditional statements will always take care of the different scenarios you are painting above. From preventing students from borrowing books based on their graduation date to alerting the administrators and even sending reminders to the student, if statements will make this work and less than 30 lines of code will do. Of course, in the absence of a good developer a ready made version makes sense. If you truly write codes from scratch then you will realize that it is far easier to develop own own that to tweak another. The key word is understanding what goes on under the hood, not using an authoring tool that masks the dirty work that makes the web do things. sbucareer:Everyone must not follow Bill Gates and his style, Youtube was set up by two people that were even working as employees at Paypal. Can one person develop the entire Youtube site? Yes. Can someone do so under 1 month? Yes. Can one person develop google search site with the algorithms? Yes. My point is this, that you cannot do something does not mean that others cannot do it. |
sbucareer:That I did not meet your expectation does not make my views wrong and I will show you why in my response to the next quote. sbucareer:Put differently, Iweala did well, not so? If you agree that she did well then what naturally follows is that the present government can as well be given credit for any achievements she may have recorded. Maybe you failed to understand my post, you should have asked me to clarify rather than assuming wrongly. I never stated nor remotely implied that Iweala did not do anything good. In fact, my post was using her records or achievements to point out the bias in the way people rate others based on whether they like the person or not. Can anyone praise Iweala and still maintain that the present government did nothing right? This question is the crux of my comments, nothing more, nothing less. |
Big B1:Many of these people supporting Atiku today lost out in the power tussle in the PDP so naturally there is a common denominator here. Big B1:Would you rather he killed him or what? |
mihai:I honestly believe that you have fed yourself a whole lot of wrong information and you are basing your discussion on the wrong information. Paying for imported goods is not the same as goods brought in by Nigerians abroad unless they are businessmen. True, there are Nigerians that want to leave the country just as there are others that do not want to leave the country. As for the statement in bold above, I believe it naturally follows that someone like you that left the country and is still complaining everyday about Nigeria is the one that is doomed. I am also certain that the country you reside in do not produce all the clothes you put on, so I don't see what your point is as regards jeans. |
You cannot discuss this thread without OBJ, even the title basically is about OBJ blocking Iweala's opportunity. My concern is about people that maintain that OBJ did not do anything positive but will easily shower praises on Iweala who was part of the government unless they are showing her for some private business. I will rate OBJ over 50% anyday by the way. |
If wishes were horses. That you could shamelessly associate your posts with truth shows that you are really sick. |
@adconline, I needed to draw out the bias and unnecessary sentiments people base their arguements on. I cannot understand how someone will shower praises for Okonjo Iweala for doing very well while she was the Finance Minister on one hand and yet say that the present government failed in every sector. Each time you ask people (who hold such views) to reconcile the irreconcilable statements they begin to stammer. It seems a lot of people will do or say anything to paint someone black if they don't like the person even if the person has done good things or praise someone to high heavens if they like the person regardless of the person's failures. Personally, if OBJ is being held responsible for any failed policies of this government then it makes perfect sense to also give him credit for any successful policy. |
Unfortunately, on this forum what you say is inconsequential because the forum will be a disaster if we all have to come down to your level to discuss threads. Why not take time to learn stuff you don't know? |
TayoD:Education surely does not equal knowledge and someone as dumb as you is just confused, hope you never be in a position to guide someone in your life for example have a kid grow up under your watch. |
sbucareer:I think you have given a very detailed advice and good one too but I dare say that a single person can provide the solution. Tasks can only be as complex as the owner wants it to be. If all the tasks, functionalities and features are clearly spelt out and understood by both the owner and the developer, developing a solution by even one person is not only doable but easy depending on the level of expertise on any programming language. Programming is all about data manipulation and anyone that understands any programming language to the extent that he/she can do anything with data can build any application. Put differently, a task that may seem difficult to one person may seem easy to another person. |
Why don't you make use of a developer that will simply code what you want as it gives you 100% flexibility, power and control over what you want? It seems easier to download and tweak codes but the surest route is to make a script do what you want at all times and in most cases coding from scratch might even be faster. |
Interesting post. Can anyone answer this question - Did Okonjo Iweala record any positive achievements while she was the Finance Minister in Nigeria that would warrant her to be considered for the UN VP position? |
nigeria1:Please, get yourself a more reliable server or better still get a dedicated server and stop talking about anyone attacking your server as that may be seeking for cheap publicity. The satellite pictures you are talking about, do you know anything about the date the pictures were taken? |
Big B1:So, because Big B1 said so, we must accept it as a statement of fact abi? Nigeria is getting more and more interesting by the day. |
Wonders shall never end. So the reason for Lagos State not releasing its own result is not the issue of unconstitutionality again? Now, the new song is that it is waiting for the break down. Put differently, what is unconstitutional now to release will automatically become constitutional when it goes into detail with the break down. Nigeria, I hail thee with the type of conspiracy theories, rumours, assumptions or misinformation. |
buluti:My apology for using the word people as against the specific individuals that the description fits so well. However, I am sometimes disaapointed at the way you dismiss the killing of hundreds of thousands of Iraqis based on the lies of Bush as a mistake, it is insulting to the innocent people that were killed unless you really believe that their lives are worth nothing simply because they are arabs. |
4 Play:Gbam!!! It is anyone's fault but BAE, interesting. 4 Play:So, bribe offering is ok as long as it gets the contract? 4 Play:Real source of the problem? Ok, let us leave Western bashing and concentrate on China and Eastern Europe bashing. 4 Play:Weapons to deal with the ND problem? Please enlighten us. 4 Play:Harliburton is an American company and it is heavily involved in this. Both Exxonmobil and Shell have records of bribe offering. 4 Play:Because Nigeria is interested in those that can do the job and not just a matter of patronage. Railways, telecoms, solar systems, medicines etc are areas that Asian countries/companies can do very well compared to the US or British companies. |
Will you prefer a PH based web hosting company that charges ok (by your standards) but with unreliable services to an non PH based web hosting provider with very reliable web hosting company? What advantages lie with a PH based hosting provider? If you ask me I will say none without any equivocations whatsoever. I host more than 100 websites and my web hosting company is in the US and I do not have any problems whatsoever. Just thinking aloud here. I will rellay like to know what the advantages are (if any) as I may learn a thing or two from those advantages. |
@buluti, @ Afam here we go again you still are calling demography and migration theories sentiments and biased, am not an engineer but in the social sciences when a pattern is established over different samples it is construed as a theory, the higher the price the lower the quantity demanded is sentiments: is it? and also its like differentiating 7x squared getting 14x and calling it sentiments, when something can be empirically verified it can be regarded as a theory not sentiments. I really don't know what you call verifiable reason? the onus is the other way around, the NPC is the one that should be proving not the critics.I don't know how you came about the conlusion you reached above unless you are deliberately trying misinform anyone. Demography and migration theories cannot be a substitute for actual measurement in anything for that matter not just a census. Emerical analysis, postulations, inter/intrapolations are carried out as a guide and that is when actual data isn't available. That you are willing to discard an actual data collected in favour of theories and non factual computations beats my imagination silly. And it is not the duty of INEC to prove that the critics are wrong, it is the duty of the critics to prove that INEC is wrong and thus far, nothing concrete has been said as to why the INEC results should be discarded in favour of any alternative result. For your information, there is nothing unconstitutional for any state to conduct its own head count for the sole purpose of using it for the development of the state. That you are excusing or labeling the act itself unconstitutional, maybe to provide cover for the unwillingness of Lagos state to release the result is at best deceiving and unfortunate. |
asoderock:@asoderock, Thanks for the information, I wonder how people try to distance Bush from the carnage in Iraq today. How can people be so myopic, misinformed, stupid in thinking all at the same time? Is it not funny that Bush who is responsible for the clearly avoidable deaths of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi based on lies can be excused but the 911 attack that claimed about 3000 lives can be used to kill unlimited number of people. Unless we are being told that the life of 1 american is worth 1000 lives in Iraq or in the arab world. @the mad dog called tayod, There is no point trying to lie your way through who started insulting each other as the forum can easily act as a reference point to trace anything. Liars like you do not deserve to be using any public forum for that matter until you purge yourself of your uncountable lies. |
Grandstanding and sometimes empty words. Hear this loud and clear, regardless of what Nigerians abroad say, the onus lies on Nigerians living in Nigeria to effect changes in Nigeria. If anyone cannot live with this simple fact of life then the person can continue making sensational statements and going round in circles. |
Is it not funny that a state that conducted a parallel census working in teams with the NPC officials has refused to release its own results while rejecting the ones released by NPC? If it is unconstitutional for Lagos to announce the results of the census it conducted in Lagos then it is unconstitutional for it to even reject the ones released by NPC for daring to go against the Federal government. But of course, we should believe anyone that rejects the census results even if no single verifiable reason is given to support such a position. |
@egbon, I agree that INEC boss should have been fired for overseeing a wasteful and inefficient registration excercise. If done properly, up to 50 million Nigerians can be registered in a month but when they engage in things/technology they know very little about what do you expect? @jas_o I also agree that Baba should leave and hand over to an interim government is we really need time to get the election done properly. |
McKren:I have made it clear to him before but what do you expect from someone that has already been completely and dangerously brainwashed. I hope people like him never have anything to do with Nigeria, let them stay back and continue to live in confusion, lies and misinformations. |
davidylan:Anyone that understands anything better than you do isn't a mr know-it-all, it is just a case of being bold enough to accept responsibilities of what one knows and what one doesn't know. While many of us are willing to learn and discuss issues we understand you are carried away with baseless statements and sometimes incohrent submissions. Do focus on your exams so you don't become a liability. @Donzman, I believe you are dead wrong in your position that non Phd holders can not lecture in the university. Though it is not necessary some of us actually have certificates from well respected universities in the West and we know that all the lecturers don't have Phds. Unless you are talking about a different West or even Taribo West for that matter. |
Coming from a 22yr old, it can be excused. Hope you don't continue this way as you grow older else you will become a disaster. |
All well and good, the advice still remains valid that only when you are finding it hard to make a point do you engage in name calling, maybe you are still too young and immature to understand what you do or say. As you rightly reproduced my post, the reference was to people you label apologists, maybe you are too confused to notice that. Hopefully, time may help you. |
Can someone answer this question without sentiments or bias? If INEC is unable to conclude the voters registration excercise and we still have Nigerians that are eligible to vote that are not yet registered, would it be better to shift the election to allow for more time to get eligible voters registered or do we just carryon with the election regardless of the problems with the current registration excercise just to make sure that a new government comes in come May 29 2007? Can we focus on real susbstance in what we do in Nigeria and avoid being teleguided by the media or politicians? Can't we discuss issues without suspicions, bad blood or hate? |
From my inbox, happy reading. The part that deals with lies being used to justify a lot of wars is soooooo real. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Last Article By Denis Mueller This will be my last article. It has been a pleasure writing and selecting articles for this column. Seven years ago I posted the first article. What we have tried to do is to illustrate that history is an evolving story that has a point of view. I am a documentary filmmaker who is the co-producer of the film, "Howard Zinn: You Can't be Neutral on a Moving Train," which you can find anywhere on the net. This is why you saw so many articles by Dr. Zinn in this column. One of the things I have tried to emphasize is that wars are accompanied by lies and deceit. This is a historical fact. We may argue that those lies are necessary but they are still lies. I believe that history illustrates that the people are ahead of the curve when it comes to change and that power never gives away power without a struggle, so it is important for us to always keep pressure on the politicians. That being said what history tells us about our present dilemma is that we have not bothered to look at history when making our judgments concerning the present. For the past three articles we have seen how Iraq has always been a violent place, which somehow was overlooked by our leaders. I come out of the Vietnam generation and cannot understand the thinking of someone like Bush. Some have speculated as to why a certain segment of the population, which I guess includes me, grows fangs when seeing Bush. I let you in on a little secret. It is because we, of the Vietnam generation, cannot believe one of our own gleefully walked into a situation that has more catastrophic possibilities than anything since the Cuban missile crises. They were so arrogant in dismissing criticism that all of us who knew this was a disaster from the beginning have watched this train wreck happen in utter disbelief. Here are a couple of observations that I have made through the years and I propose we follow them in the future. 1. Never elect anyone for president from Texas again. We have had LBJ and Bush leading us in failed wars so that is enough. 2. We have learned from history never to trust politicians when it comes to war. They are most likely lying. Bush, LBJ, Polk and Wilson have all lied to the country about their true intentions. 3. The mainstream press will not bother explaining anything about the history of the country we are presently invading, so it is your responsibility to find out about their history for yourself. So this is it. I am still around and kicking just keep an eye out for my films. Peace! Attention Forgotten History Readers! Today is the final edition of Forgotten History, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy GopherCentral's other flagship publication dealing with historical and current world issues. 4 Play:I have seen dead Nigerians brought home after being violently killed in foreign countries. I guess Nigerians should not bother travelling to any country because the same fate might befall them. 4 Play:Please, why do people leave Nigeria for other countries? In some cases we have Nigerians that are ill informed about the reality outside Nigeria and they end up doing jobs that are demeaning, some become hired assasins, criminals, prostitutes, road sweepers etc. Interestingly, those who believe that Nigeria is useless and are residing outside Nigeria are the same ones that will discuss Nigeria as if they knew what they were saying, comments laden with misinformations, inconsquential statements and sometimes vague ones. This is why I insist that only Nigerians living in Nigeria can change the country and not people who may not have a clue of the true situation talking carelessly. |
