OLadi:The content in bold goes to show that the man is confused and is already looking for an exit strategy. What sort of prediction will give room for an either/or scenario? On one one, he won't rule and still on the same sentence you read "and if at all he did". And if only two of his predictions have come to pass out of so many he may have been making then it is obvious he is not good in his chosen business. My prediction? The sun will set today and it will rise tomorrow. Infact, a big man will be born today and a big man will die in 2007. And infact, I will die one day. I don't know why these people are given air time. |
I believe the muslims in the North know better as regards attacking christians based on things that happen outside Nigeria. If it indeed happens, it will be a simple case of retaliation and revenge so they should know that no one will just relax and wait for christians to be killed like that. This is part of the problem being caused by the US when its president claims that God asked him to attack Iraq, one of the countries he labelled axis of evil even though he is responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths in a war based on outright lies. |
4 Play:Wrong!!! We have christains in Iraq. The last VP under Saddam Tariq Azeez was a christain and about 3% of the whole of Iraq is made up of christains. I am sure the news on several media about the huge demonstrations mainly by the Sunnis about the hanging is enough to show that some people opposed the way the hanging of Saddam went. Even the president of Iran did state that those that armed him, supported him finally directed him to his death even though the US helped the Iranians get rid of its enemy. On death penalty proper, it was re-introduced in 2004 to pave the way for a death sentence for Saddam. |
Well stated. |
Was Saddam really a threat to world peace with a weak army and the north and southern part of Iraq designated as the no-fly zones? If Iraq had a strong army the US would not have ventured into the country for whatever reasons just as it will not contemplate attacking Iran or North Korea. Maybe you need to know why people are not happy with the way he was executed so you do not confuse it with mourning for Saddam. As for the greatest threat to world peace today Bush will effortlessy take that title as he goes bombing anything he feels like bombing only to call them mistakes while hundreds of thousands of innocent people have been sent to their early graves. |
You see, part of the problem with the execution was that it had nothing to do with any of the well documents crimes he commited and there are many but had everything to do with the Dujail case which would not stand as a crime in any sane court because all he did was sign the death warrants, same thing that Bush still performs till date. I do not support the idea of using any twisted reasons to attack the US but I believe there are a lot of correct and clear statements out in the public domain that are enough for anyone to say hey "the role of the US is condemnable or that the US supervised everything from start to finish". |
Interesting response. 1. The US is heavily involved from start to finish so it is not out of place for anyone to involve the US while discussing the death of Saddam. 2. Those who live by the sword, , an eye for an eye, etc are ways that made sense before christianity ever came into being (focusing on christianity), I actually wanted to know what the Reverend connotes as a username used by you so one can understand how to treat your comments. 3. Saddam had a trial even though many agree the trial was not a fair one. But again he was sentenced to death for siging the death warrants of people that were actually tried in the law courts. Infact, one of the 3 that were sentenced to death was the judge that headed the trial that found the over 140 people guitly and subsequent death sentence. Put differently, Saddam was killed for the same crime that Bush carries out against his people (since signing death warrants for people already convicted and sentenced to death by law courts amounts to crimes). Celebrating the death of anyone is not something anyone should be proud of doing. |
I do not think that it will make any difference afterall IBB had his kids in Nigeria and I believe same thing happened under Abacha and we all know the result of their stewardship while in office. There should be a limit to what people should demand from their leaders. People's right to choose what they want should not be removed from them because they are running for elective offices. |
Reverend:On the contrary, I believe you are the one showing happiness at the execution of someone as if the death of someone is something that one should celebrate. I have not read on this thread where anyone is supporting Saddam, unless you take any post that does not agree with your position to mean support for Saddam. The process leading to his death is improper with the US playing a very important role from funding the trial to holding him from 2003 to just 30 hours before his death. I do not know if reverend is your nickname, title or realname but reverend is associated with christainity to the best of my knowledge and can you state that your happiness at the death of someone is what christainity teaches you? |
panafrican:@Panafrican, So, you are now noticing this empty barrel that opposes anything he does not like with very warped explanations. To make matters worse, he abuses you and later turns around to make weak defences or explanations for posting nonsense. On the death penalty proper, it is interesting to know now that HIV is now being transmitted via dirty environments as if the virus lives and mutates well outside the well understood hosts. Unfortunately, some people here do not have any minds of their own as the media thinks for them are now thoroughly and irreversibly brainwashed. My prayer is that these people should not even know anyone that knows anyone that may ever be in the corrider of power in Nigeria as advices from them will certainly be as disastrous as those they blindly support till today. |
I could not believe my eyes reading from davidylan correctly pointing out certain faults or bad deeds of the US, this is a welcome development and I guess it did not escape the attention of other users of this forum. I respect people that are bold enough to point out the good and the bad rather than blanket condemnation or commendation regardless of the facts. On Saddam, 4 Play stated something about the death penalty, it will interest us to know that the death penalty was re-introduced in 2004 to pave the way for a death sentence for Saddam in a court process that was fully funded by the US, was in the US custody until 30 minutes before the hanging. The chantings and tauntings by the executioners (Shiites) both before and after the hanging put paid to the speculations and conclusions that his execution was more of a revenge mission than justice for those Saddam was responsible for their deaths. One thing is certain, the US will become more vulnerable, the US will leave Iraq in disgrace, the influence of the US in deciding what happens in other nations will reduce (and for good reasons too), more souls will be lost in Iraq. One thing I find very difficult to understand is why Bush is still the president of the US, a man that lies and doesn't understand the world around him? |
The US may have helped Iran in this case to get rid of its main enemy without knowing it. The bottomline is that Iraq will simply be another Iran with a full nation based on Islamic rule, something Saddam opposed which by the way was partly responsible for the distancing of other Arab nations to Iraq. Iraq had a christain as the VP even though the christains in that country amounted to less than 3%, churches were burnt for the first time in Iraq after the fall of Saddam, something no one would attempt under his rule. No single suicide attack was carried out in Iraq under Saddam, but today Iraq is now a haven for recruiting terrorists, thanks to the lying Bush and his co travellers. But is it correct to execute Saddam? Yes, but not for the charges he faced. His sentencing was more of a revenge and vengeance than it was for justice. Saddam should have been executed for gassing of the Kurds (even though the US provided him with the chemical weapons, part of which were previously used against Iranians) which amounted to genocide as those people were never tried for any crimes. The killing of the over 140 people in Dujail cannot stand as an offence that will result in a death penalty on the part of Saddam because those people were arrested, tried and sentenced to death after a failed assasination attempt, Saddam only signed the death warrants just like Bush today signs death warrants brought before him and just the same way the Iraqi PM signed his death warrant even when they had to bend the rule to kill Saddam as a key requirement was waived when the Iraqi President refused to sign it as he was opposed to the death penalty. If Saddam could be killed for siging the death warrants for people already condemned to death by the courts then Bush, Arnold Schwarzenneger & co should be executed for signing death warrants brought before them. Unfortunately, many of us allow the media to think for us instead of picking information from what they say and making sense of the information as no one can understand a message unless you understand the creator and the motive for the message. |
TayoD:Saddam was in the US custody from the day he was captured until 30 minutes before his death when he was released to the Shiites that were bent on executing him. The US financed the trials, even a prosecutor boasted that they had over $200M to spend in the case, Saddam was brought to court by the US, housed by the US and I wonder how on earth anyone can separate the US from what happened in Iraq the pas few days as regards Saddam. Again, the video displayed on the internet goes to show that the execution had more to do with revenge than justice. The Iraqi president refused to sign the death warrant because he was opposed to it and a decision that has not been explained till today was made that the PM's signature was enough to execute him, a promise the PM made weels earlier that Saddam would not live to see the new year. |
chidichris, You are not here to change public opinion, you are not here to think for people, your job should to provide information that spports or opposes an issue or position and then allow the readers to make up their minds based on what they read and what sense they came make out of it. I guess the reason why some of you get so angry to the point of insulting people that disagree with you is that you think people should agree with you based on what you say and when they don't you take offence and start insulting those that disagree. This is a new year and I do not think I will have the time to waste of discussions that does nothing but introduce insults when people disagree with those that incorrectly assume that their positions are the correct ones. I will advice you to always take time to read people's posts before concluding as you may completely misunderstand someone and use the same wrong conclusion to launch an attack. |
4 Play:As usual, deviating from the main issue. Would have been shocked if you did otherwise. @Easyy, Even the devil knows the bible and can quote some portions of it so do not worry too much about the actions of some of these religous bigots that are blinded by hatred while masking same. |
Easyy:@Easyy, You have not seen anything yet, these guys are ready to even blame air for not being able to translate their thoughts into meaningful contributions. I have stopped replying posts that aim to deviate from the real issues as that is the new style on board, real shame. |
Same hypocrites who think they have a right to insult others and those they insult don't have a right to respond in kind, really disgusting. No, there are many people I have disagreed with without any insults coming from them nor any responses in kind from me, and I guess you cannot be like such normal people. |
mazaje:Anyone that says or agrees with the statement that Nigeria is a nation of idiots is a bigger idiot. Nothing in my previous posts tend to support the stupid statement that Nigeria is a nation of idiots. |
mazaje:That is the problem with many Nigerians, once you do not agree with any position they hold they come out with very ridiculous conclusions. I do not know what you mean by supporting OBJ. I freely commend him for any positive thing he does and criticize him for any negative thing he does, I am not cut out for any blanket commendation or condemnation. If I take for a brief moment your style would it be correct to say that you are supporting Atiku? |
My sister, that is the world we are in and many do not see anything wrong in the one sided trial and the heavy involvement of the US even up till this moment as CNN is currently talking about the US rejecting request by the daughter to see him before facing the hangman's noose. A country in a state of war initiated by the US under false accusations is ready to kill a former president (at least 24 years) just because the US wants him dead. What goes around comes around. It has been in the news since yesterday that Israel is saying yes to Egypt's plan to ship arms to Abass loyalists since in Hamas both Israel and Abass have a common enemy. I hope Israel will remember this when the Fatah militants will use the same weapons against them when they stop fighting Hamas or when they reconcile with Hamas. |
my2cents:@My2cents, Never ever ask people to visit that site again, was the site setup for free or what? So many images that won't load and an excellent time waster. |
Anyone that says Nigeria is a nation of idiots is a very big idiot. On Audu Ogbeh, I do not have sympathy for people who commit crimes against Nigeria only turn themselves into defenders of Nigeria once they lose out in the power game. Audu Ogbeh set an unprecedented record in Nigeria for being the first party chairman to oversee the use of the military to massively rig elections to ensure that PDP won elections in 2003. Not even the PDP chairman under Abdusalami Abubakar did anything close. He should be reminded of all the atrocities he commited, being against OBJ after they fell out is not enough because we are tired of hypocrites that will support policies that are bad only to turn themselves into human rights defenders overnight. |
Still on foreign policy, why is the West not asking for Saddam not to be executed as it normally does when people they like are sentenced to death? Iraq re-introduced the death penalty in 2004 to pave way for a certain death for Saddam andit seems ok for the US that has held Saddam for 3 years even throughout the trial process that sentenced him to death. But the world seems to speak out when Libya sentenced to death some Bulgarians that were responsible for transmitting HIV to children in Libya even though the medical workers claimed the children contracted the virus from unhealthy surroundings (strange explanation). |
Night travelling is dangerous whether in terms of accidents, armed robberies or broken down vehicles. Should any of these happen help won't readily come for fear that robbers may be using some tricks to waylay others. I wonder why people will engage in potentially dangerous ventures and turn round to blame the government. It all boils down to personal responsibility, if you do not take sensible decisions to protect your own life then you don't have any reason to complain. Robberies that take place during the day have serious consequences on the state of insecurity in Nigeria and the ineffectiveness of the police, but for night travels Nigerians have a role to minimize these robberies. Just yesterday, there was news that another pipeline had been vandalised and that Nigerians were scooping fuel even when a lot of people died in a similar venture some days ago. |
@4Play, I guess I know exactly how your brain works by now. Knowing fully well that producing one will result in your asking for more than one, I proceeded to produce 3. Now, you have started another round of aimless rhetorics that end up exposing your inability to acknowledge even simple facts or realities. In order not to coin my own version of some US foreign policies I opted to visit a lot of US government websites including your wikipedia and out of all the foreign policies I saw I narrowed down to 3 that I agree with. On how a country can claim to improve lives everywhere and turn around to kill people, it shows that you are either incapable of seeing things the way they are or that you are being plain stupid. I really believe you are using this forum to learn but there is a limit to what you can learn here. I will not join you in this round of empty and aimless distractions on very clear and simple statements, try my neighbour. |
@Mazaje, I smell a great deal of inconsistency here, if you knew that Okonjo Iweala had nothing to do with the issue why bring her up in your attempt to blame OBJ? Needless to say, your answer would have made nonsense of the point you are trying to make and I believe you just realised that. The 2 quotes below are your statements. mazaje: mazaje: |
@Easyy, Add Al Qaeda to the list so that you will not be accused of bias or support for Osama. |
@chidichris, You are simply a big idiot, in your warped sense of reasoning I don't have a right to reply people that insult me, is that what your brain tells you? It is such hypocrisy and bias that is causing problems all over the world. You have insulted me here before and I replied in kind and you started to complain. Now, in replying to insults from a member of your gang you have come to state rubbish, yo are just a pig. If you have not read anything about my views on Israel/Palestine maybe its becease you are totally engrossed in looking for insults on the forum or maybe because you don't understand passable english. I have decided to ignore your incoherent posts but mind you whenever you push your insults my way I will always reply you in kind. I am sick and tired of hypocrites like you that are quick to point out other people's faults but never see their own or even acknowledge them when they are pointed out. Your type of people are better of dead, silly thing. |
McKren:Exactly, and that is why some leaders in the middle east do not have sympathy for him because he maltreated his own people and did what pleased the US that armed Iraq while it waged war with Iran. Interestingly, Saddam has just been transfered to Iraqi custody from US custody after 3 solid years. This again goes to show how independent the trial itself was when it was teleguided by the US. Maybe he may have been executed already as his lawyer claimed he was asked to come and pick up Saddam's effects or provide an address where they can be delivered. Not a good way for a leader of over 24 years to end especially at the dictate of a foreign power. |
@Mazaje, Did Okonjo Iweala record any positive achievements? |
babasin:Is OBJ responsible for the re-instatement? or babasin:The courts were never used to impeach the governor, the governor went to court to seek redress and he got it. I believe we are partly responsible for elevating OBJ to a cult like figure where nothing happens unless he is aware and it is bad. |
