Will not be engaging in a never ending round of links. The information was presented as the CNN presenters were stating them. Here was a live program and I am sure none of the links you had made available thus far was even written when I posted the thread. That you have written versions of the story on the web without the exact words used by the CNN presenters does not make my post wrong and common sense should have made that clear enough. Your respond though is not totally unexpected. |
batu:Atleast, the source of the information was made public and was not even wrong as there was actual live video footage. That you think you are not ignorant does not make it so, I have seen many that have resorted to name calling only to disappear when responded to in kind. Unfortunately, there is no single reasonable comment on the issue that warrants being taken seriously as your brain can only process name calling, at least based on your comments thus far. Well, for someone that has posted in the Religion section 5 times (out of a total of 7 posts on this forum) I believe you may be another religious bigot waiting to see Islam, Israel or Arab before hitting the reply button and vomitting words based on warped sense of reasoning. |
In order to avoid making conclusions prematurely, I followed the link presented by the person that knows what is so untrue about the post but did not find anything to support the statement. As usual, we see statements that are convenient to us as reasonable statements and others as baseless. For over 25 minutes CNN focused on a live coverage of the incident as it was unfolding and I even pointed that out when someone wanted a link to the story and now that a website had posted it's own version of the incident some people claim the original post is so untrue, what a shame but not totally unexpected coming from someone that has been wrong on over 75% of issues he had gotten himself involved in. Pictures and videos (live pictures and commentaries) are far better in judging the correctness or otherwise of events since articles coming out of controlled media will ultimately sieve out information it does not want the public to see. The initial release of Saddam's execution and the subsequent release of the full (unedited version) video are cases in point. As for anyone living in denial, it is like a case of someone being eaten up by a disease, dying slowly but surely. |
More often than not, I have heard the typical Nigerian christian proclaim total and unconditional support for anything Israel does no matter how bad, usually citing the bible as a reference and the problem as God's fulfillment of His promise to Israel to occupy other people's lands. From my inbox, enjoy. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The video clip we are linking to shows a face of extreme Zionism which is becoming more commonplace. The video is of a drunken twenty-something Israeli settler threatening a British film crew and giving his views on Jesus. It is a shocking display of vulgarity. Yes, he is drunk. We call this the "Mel Gibson defense". Watch this video that is being seen by hundreds of thousands of people. It just might be more powerful than any essay ever written. Here is the direct link to the video: http://www.evtv1.com/player.aspx?itemnum=6595 |
omofineboy:Unfortunately, we have a government that will readily please the West than Nigerians. Sometimes I wished Abacha was still alive. On the EFCC report, almost all the politicians and businessmen in Nigeria are dirty so drawing up a list is not a big deal because it will be easy to establish cases against these men. But for US and EU to demand proof goes to show that they think too much of themselves. |
ono:Instead of following your advice you have relocated to another country. Why don't you practice what you preach? |
My friend, someone asked you to use your almighty satellite picture to show him his house in Festac, Lagos State and you could not, citing that you do not know Festac well and instead proceeded to show him Onitsha. In terms of credibility, you are found wanting. Show us the Festac house or hold your peace. You are eager to show NPC proof that the census was wrong yet a simple task of pointing out a house using satellite images even with the exact address is too difficult for you to accomplish. Make we hear word abeg, na people like you go do gra gra for Aso rock come win contract to work only to disappear after collecting mobilization. |
Seizing a man's land and claiming sovereignty over it is illegal and will continue to be so. Meanwhile the issue of soveriegnty does not even arise because some Arab members of the Israeli Parliament (another misnomer, only made possible because Israel is occupying arab lands so would not mind having Arabs in the cabinet) came and helped to negotiate peace after Olmert rejected advice from even core Israelis to avoid such provocative actions. Just as the Hezbollah issue played out and at the end of the day demystified the once dreaded Israeli force, too much provocation may ultimately expose Israel to increased hatred and maybe violent confrontations that they may still lose. |
US and EU? Absolute trash. They have no rights under the sun to ask Nigeria to make available any proof whatsoever. Do they really think that other countries are mere branch offices ready to take instructions from them or what? |
Sorry, it's on air right now on CNN, it's been given full coverage for over 20 minutes now. It is also important to note that the lastest problem between Israel and Palestine was caused by Sharon's visit to the same site in September 2000. The world sits and watches only to start drawing up unnecessary sentiments when the situations gets out of hand. Worshippers below 45 years have been denied access to the mosque as I write this. |
This is good for our democracy and goes to show that Nigeria is not a lawless society as many misinformed people would rather have us believe. At least, we have seen many court rulings that went against the interest of OBJ and it is encouraging. |
This is how is starts, some provocative actions, ignores all protests even by Arab ambassadors and Palestinians, shots fired, people killed and another round of blood letting. Non muslims entering mosques especially when relations are far from cordial is condemnable. Israel should not be fuelling the crisis in the middle east because it has the support of the US because the US may surprise them one day by aligning with Iran, Hezbollah and even Hamas just to protect its own interest and the loser will be Israel. |
Cool responses. You learn by trying even if you don't get it the first few times. |
If the likes of Alami and Asari are seen as heros by MEND then I dare say that they do not even know what they want. As regards taking up arms against a government, it amounts to a declaration of war and no sane government will allow such to stand. The FG will not come and build schools and open bank accounts for the people in the Niger Delta, the monthly allocations are squandered by their leaders and instead of asking their leaders to account for their money they are busy buying arms to the fight everybody as the guy who was interviewed by Jeff on CNN stated. Meanwhile, if Nigeria will disintegrate soon then it will be fuelled by the likes of the US who will effortlessly speed up the process if only they are guaranteed free access to our oil as the middle east is becoming too hot for them. |
@Texazzpete, Honestly, you have made so many incorrect statements ranging from the strenght of the Iraqi army to the issue of countires being allowed to keep nuclear weapons. Apart from the 5 countries what about India, Israel and Pakistan? What is the essence of the NPT if any country can opt out of it or not even sign it and develop nuclear weapons as much as it wants to? Supporting hypocrisy and double standards of the West while being awake to issues in the middle east is not ideal. Meanwhile, I hope you stop calling those of us that believe in either complete destruction of the nukes or free access to any country that wants to develop them idiots because no one has monopoly of insults and believe me, I give back as much as I receive. |
Nigeria is indeed a strange place. Asking for the source of wealth of someone that suddenly became mega rich has now turned into a matter of "everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion". Tomorrow the same people will complain about looting and corruption. Sad case. |
Big B1:You never disappoint when it comes to IBB. I am not totally against IBB or anyone for that matter as I do not believe in blanket commendation nor condemnation. I blame or praise based on actions. The bias and sentiments you display when IBB is mentioned will make it difficult for people to believe you regardless of how you attempt to promote a better Nigeria, hope you see things the way they really are. |
@BigB1, Can you state just 2 things IBB may have done wrong that he needs to redeem himself from? Personally, asking for another possible 8 years to make amends is asking for too much, Nigeria does not have such time for second chances. |
Big B1:@BigB1, Interesting comments from you. But it is on record that IBB disqualified a lot of politicians especially presidential aspirants just moments before general elections in one of the delayed transition programmes of the IBB government. Again I ask you, why do you see the actions of OBJ as wrong while those of IBB are always excused by you? |
Big B1:Do you also agree that IBB qualifies to be on the list based on information in the public domain especially the missing gulf war money? Just follow your concsience and answer YES or NO with valid reasons. I siddon dey wait for ya reply. |
@BigB1, You are boxing yorself into a very tight corner as regards credibility since you are ready to bet your life on the credibility of IBB and Adenuga. I may not know the relationship you have with IBB and/or his friends but the way and manner you shrug off accusations (both real and percieved) against IBB on the one hand and always talking about a better tomorrow on the other hand and even more importantly always pointing out the shortcomings of OBJ led government shows that you are certainly far from honest in your submissions. Enjoy! |
texazzpete:No, I believe only IAEA can put forward such evidence based on inspection. It is either the US is destroying its nuclear arsenal (which I believe is non starter), doing nothing (most unlikely) or is adding to its arsenal (most likely as it keeps developing more sophisticated weapons across board). On Iran, based on IAEA inspection, Iran cannot be said to be developing nuclear weapons yet because the US believes that it is developing them then the world must be fed such baseless lies and non existent scenarios. Even the same IAEA made it clear that there was not any evidence that Iraq had WMD yet the all knowing US waged an illegal war based on the WMD lie and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqi's are dead. Again, if any country believes it is stable enough to own nuclear weapons then any other country reserves the right to develop its own too. Enough of the hypocrisy, double standards, lies and misinformation being spread in the world. |
Well, with the spread and inclusion of the president's friends and supporters it will be difficult to tag this list witch-hunting as is usually the case when anyone is accused of any offence in Naija. |
McDoe:@McDoe, Thanks for your post, no one wants to pull him down. All his positive contributions to Nigeria are well documented but equally important is the need for Nigerians to know how he came about his wealth. If he had for example stolen billions of naira and using it to run businesses that employ Nigerians with a total worth of less than N1B then he is robbing Peter to pay Paul and such should not be allowed to stand. If on the other hand, his past or source of wealth is clear then he remains the best Nigerian businessman today for his investments and job opportunities created. @BigB1, Your posts are usually interesting until you get to talk about IBB and Adenuga and believe me, the bias and sentiments know no bounds. |
texazzpete:Why twisting the logic? No body wants everyone to own nuclear weapons, we want all nuclear weapons destroyed. But if one country feels it reserves the right to own it and continue to develop more with impunity then any country may as well seek to own its own nuclear arsenal. Yes, I would want Nigeria to own one too since some countries already intimidate, maim or kill others that do not have them. |
@Donzman, You ain't seen anything yet as regards how low and ridiculous these people can go to make points that are virtually useless. Now we have a new definition of NPT which spells out that the 5 countries are left to negotiate reduction amongst themselves. I hope the world will be spared the works of these spin doctors. |
PeeDaVinci:Put differently, it is ok for some countries to have them and wrong for others to have them. As long as the powerful nations continue to develop them and use them as status weapons or intimidating others, the less powerful nations will continue to seek to own them as owning nuclear weapons these days seems the fastest way to get the likes of the US off your back. NPT is not just about not developing nuclear weapons, it is also about getting rid of nuclear arsenals and as at today the US and Iran are both in breach of the NPT (the case of the US is even more concrete as it continues to build them whereas no proof exist yet as to Iran building a nuclear weapon). |
Big B1:Since it seems you know Adenuga too well, can you tell us the source of his wealth? That he is investing in Nigeria is one thing (and very commendable too) and the source of his wealth is another (and it should not be a mystery lest someone is using money meant for Nigeria to run a private business). |
Where there is a will there is usually a way. Unfortunately, those who may be thinking in the line of doing something possible to make things work keep themselves busy with the blame game and pointing of fingers which ultimately amount to nothing. Ofcourse, anyone that plans to rig the election will not want such a thing to work but we have the media that are allowed to move around on election day. This is not one, two or three people can make happen, it is not going to be easy to do but for sure it is doable and only those that believe it can be done can really work towards this. The INEC link is cool on paper but with the government funding it and the simple fact that there may not be a coordination of these results outside the LGA or State level, the final results can easily be manipulated if they wanted to do so. Thanks for your time. |
@BigB1, Personally I do not have issues with Nigerians that invest in Nigeria rather than keep their money in foreign vaults but if/when issues come up that tend to ask questions as regards the source of wealth of these Nigerians, we should be ready to ask the hard questions and answers should be made available too. Enjoy! |
Please tell us why Yar'adua is a bad choice. He has been in office for 8 years now without any single allegation of corruption or embezzlement, rather he is the only governor that posted a budget surplus of over N6B when other governors are looting and asking for more all the time. Maybe Buhari has changed or repented according to you, maybe we should also give IBB a chance since he will be interested in redeeming his image, maybe OBJ may have learnt something too and deserves another chance. If anyone cannot point out just one thing that Yar'adua has done wrong in a country where elected leaders are prone to do wrong than they are to do right then you should let this man be, at least he is the most decent politician we have seen in a very long time in Nigeria. |
Tonyblu:That's a tough one unless you get decent people to run INEC. Tonyblu:I won't bet a single kobo on this one, hence the need to have an independent body that can provide the same information. Asking for the polling stations and the list of candidates to me is not an issue as the information should ordinarily be in the public domain. Tonyblu:A database driven web application with people that are ready to sacrifice their time (or get paid for it) in going to the polling station and objectively returning the results declared at the polling stations. The results will be fed into the database and computed effortlessly. Basically, this is what NPC did with the census only that many do not trust them with the results and this is why it would have made sense for the Lagos state government to have released its own results since they counted the same thing that the NPC counted in Lagos instead of making sensational statements about rejections and nothing concrete on exposing the falsification (if any). A lot of people have access to emails these days and having thousands of people return via email or calls the declared/announced results in all the polling stations in Nigeria is not only doable but will put INEC in a position that it deserves to be put in with the attendant checks and balances. |
