OmniPotens:If I missed it then you should have taken it up immediately you saw it and in doing so it should be clear to all. I respond to things I want to respond to and based on some of her comments I even stated that the brand/website she was basing her comments on can be reproduced from scratch in 30 minutes or so from design to database and applicable programming. So, if I could state that what will stop me from commenting on any other issue I want to comment on? This forum does not belong to me neither was her remark directed at me so if you see a negative comment directed at web developers you have the right to comment on it. Wondering why I did not and yet you didn't is something I cannot understand. Even this thread you started have you noticed the number of replies and views before the main purpose of the thread became clear based on your last response? Also remember that this forum or board is not an association neither is anyone the mouthpiece of web developers and no one is being paid to defend any position here so user participation is completely out of free will and optional. |
For the records 1. Has anyone accused Dele of corruption? 2. Has anyone claimed that he is corrupt? 3. Has anyone linked OVATIOn to corruption? I am putting these questions down because it seems that some retards here don't even have any understanding of the issue on ground as regards Dele's magazine and his column at Thisday. |
rikkyjen:Thank God we are being brought back to the issues. Unfortunately, we may only see insults as replies to this post above especially by people that cannot defend their positions on issues. |
~Sauron~:Some have eyes but cannot see. Some have brains but cannot use them. Your olodoness is becoming too embarrassing. ~Sauron~:Must you see everything through a tribal prism? And who is laughing with this clown? Only a mad man initiates and laughs at his stupid dry comments that he may foolishly call jokes. |
~Sauron~:Tribalism ke? Hmm, this guy should just take otapiapia and go to sleep. The typical strategy of a confused person - make all sorts of accusations and allegations no matter how stupid while avoiding the core issues. ~Sauron~:Igbo boys? Good, this is how envy and jealousy are manifested. Wetin Igbo boys do you Mr Clown? Making progress while you argue and insult people from morning till night? |
~Sauron~:Seems this pig is using the internet well, at least to vent his frustrations lest he dies of self inflicted pains. Maybe a product of a broken and extremely disorganized home. Sorry ehn. I didn't know you have much bigger problems than I had thought. ~Sauron~:The write up above goes to show that you clearly do not understand the issue at all. When asked a question you are expected to provide answers to the question. You are not allowed to ask your own question based on your limited knowledge and then proceed to answer the question no one asked you in the first instance. Has anyone ever questioned the quality of the OVATION magazine here? Are you on drugs? Everyone must not agree with you especially when you are unable to process information intelligently. Can someone tell this clown what the issue is in any language he can understand? |
~Sauron~:How dare you abuse others when you have displayed an extremely low level of reasoning and comprehension here? Who stated or even remotely implied that Dele was corrupt? How on earth did the magazine and the word corrupt end up being used in one question? Are you really this daft? You cannot hide your stupidity by abusing anyone that does not expressly agrees with your myopic comments here. ~Sauron~:If you get home today tell your father that he is a sheep shagger. Nope, your right starts and stops where people who tolerate you allow it to start and stop. With me, I will put you exactly where you belong - trash can. |
~Sauron~:Hmm, wait oooo, if someone puts down something that seems (or is) twisted are you saying no one should or can make a statement that the statement is (or looks) twisted? You may be better off asking the guy to explain or justify the comment. I can bet you that no corrupt Nigerian wants to be seen as corrupt or will even agree he/she is corrupt. Just thinking allowed here as I cannot understand how someone that has used very bad words on people on this thread is telling another not to state that his reasoning is twisted. We must learn to understand where our rights stop and where the rights of others begin. @topic, It is becoming rather unfortunate that some people have twisted the issue and turned this into a case of hate, envy, jealousy etc while conveniently avoiding the core issues that bother on Dele's column where he seems to be blaming corrupt Nigerians even when he celebrates them in his magazine. |
Moves:Of course, he had to show humility because he may have realized that there are independent minded people who say things as they are and who will not tolerate his insults in the earlier response. Put differently, the shock he got that Nigerians are wiser than he thought gave room for what you call humility. nobilia:Don't generalize because not everyone has done (or is doing) a u-turn on this issue. I am simply too shocked at some comments here to even comment on them. I take sides on issues based on principles and my support or conscience is not for sale. His handling of the criticisms was very poor as he failed to address the issues raised but instead reduced the whole wahala to people being frustrated, not in tune with the current trend, being envious of his OVATION etc. |
From my inbox. Interesting but disturbing trend. Obama may just be another Bush in a different frame. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ----------------------------------------------------------- Liberation – Not A Fictitious State by Hasan Abu Nimah Late last month, Salam Fayyad, the appointed Palestinian Authority (PA) prime minister in Ramallah, made a surprise announcement: he declared his intention to establish a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip before the end of 2011 regardless of the outcome of negotiations with Israel. Fayyad told the London Times that he would work to build "facts on the ground, consistent with having our state emerge as a fact that cannot be denied." His plan was further elaborated in a lengthy document grandly titled "Program of the Thirteenth Government of the Palestinian National Authority." The plan contains all sorts of ambitious ideas: an inter- national airport in the Jordan Valley, new rail links to neighboring states, generous tax incentives to attract foreign investment, and of course strengthening the "security forces." It also speaks boldly of liberating the Palestinian economy from its dependence on Israel, and reducing dependence on foreign aid. This may sound attractive to some, but Fayyad has neither the political clout nor the financial means to propose such far-reaching plans without a green light from Washington or Tel Aviv. Fayyad aims to project an image of a competent Palestinian administration already mastering the craft of running a state. He boasts, for instance, that the PA he heads has worked to "develop effective institutions of government based on the principles of good governance, accountability and transparency." But what is really taking shape in the West Bank today is a police state, where all sources of opposition or resistance -- real or suspected -- to either the PA regime, or the Israeli occupation are being systematically repressed by US-funded and trained Palestinian "security forces" in full coordination with Israel. Gaza remains under tight siege because of its refusal to submit to this regime. In describing the Palestinian utopia he hopes to create, Fayyad's plan declares that "Palestine will be a stable democratic state with a multi-party political system. Transfer of governing authority is smooth, peaceful and regular in accordance with the will of the people, expressed through free and fair elections conducted in accordance with the law." A perfect opportunity to demonstrate such an exemplary transfer would have been right after the January 2006 election which as the entire world knows Hamas won fairly and cleanly. Instead, those who monopolize the PA leader- ship today colluded with outside powers first to cripple and overthrow the elected Hamas government, and then the "national unity government" formed by the Mecca Agreement in early 2007, entrenching the current internal Palestinian division. (Fayyad's own party won just two percent at the 2006 election, and his appointment as prime minister by PA leader Mahmoud Abbas was never -- as required by law -- approved by the Palestinian Legislative Council, dozens of whose elected members remain behind Israeli prison bars.) From 1994 to 2006, more than eight billion US dollars were pumped into the Palestinian economy, making Palestinians the most aid-dependent people on earth, as Anne Le More showed in her important book International Assistance to the Palestinians after Oslo: Political Guilt; Wasted Money (London, Routledge, 2008). The PA received this aid ostensibly to build Palestinian institutions, improve socioeconomic development and support the creation of an independent state. The result however is that Palestinians are more destitute and aid-dependent than ever before, their institutions are totally dysfunctional, and their state remains a distant fantasy. PA corruption and mismanagement played a big part in squandering this wealth, but by far the largest wealth destroyer was and remains the Israeli occupation. Contrary to what Fayyad imagines, you cannot "end the occupation, despite the occupation." A telling fact Le More reveals is that the previous "programs" of the PA (except those offered by the Hamas-led governments) were written and approved by international donor agencies and officials and then given to the PA to present back to the same donors who wrote them as if they were actually written by the PA! Everything we see suggests Fayyad's latest scheme follows exactly the same pattern. What is particularly troubling this time is that the plan appears to coincide with a number of other initiatives and trial balloons that present a real danger to the prospects for Palestinian liberation from permanent Israeli subjugation. Recently, the International Middle East Media Center, an independent Palestinian news organization, published what it said was the leaked outline of a peace plan to be presented by US President Barack Obama. That plan included international armed forces in most of the Palestinian "state"; Israeli annexation of large parts of East Jerusalem; that "All Palestinian factions would be dissolved and transformed into political parties"; all large Israeli settlements would remain under permanent Israeli control; the Palestinian state would be largely demilitarized and Israel would retain control of its airspace; intensified Palestinian-Israeli "security coordination"; and the entity would not be permitted to have military alliances with other regional countries. On the central issue of the right of return for Palestinian refugees, the alleged Obama plan allows only an agreed number of refugees to return, not to their original homes, but only to the West Bank, particularly to the cities of Ramallah and Nablus. It is impossible to confirm that this leaked document actually originates with the Obama administration. What gives that claim credibility, however, is the plan's very close resemblance to a published proposal sent to Obama last November by a bipartisan group of US elder statesmen headed by former US national security advisors Brent Scowcroft and Zbigniew Brzezinski. Moreover, recent press reports indicate a lively debate within the Obama Administration about whether the US should itself publish specific proposals for a final settlement once negotiations resume; so there is little doubt that concrete proposals are circulating. Indeed there is little of substance to distinguish these various plans from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's concept of "economic peace" and a demilitarized Palestinian statelet under overall Israeli control, with no right of return for refugees. And, since all seem to agree that the Jordan Valley -- land and sky -- would remain under indefinite Israeli control, so would Fayyad's airport. Similar gimmicks have been tried before: who remembers all the early Oslo years' hullabaloo about the Gaza International Airport that operated briefly under strict Israeli control before Israel destroyed it, and the promised Gaza seaport whose construction Israel forbade? There are two linked explanations for why Fayyad's plan was launched now. US Middle East envoy George Mitchell has repeatedly defined his goal as a "prompt resumption and early conclusion" of negotiations. If the kinds of recycled ideas coming from the alleged Obama plan, the Scowcroft-Brzezinski document, or Netanyahu, are to have any chance, they need to look as if there is a Palestinian constituency for them. It is Fayyad's role to provide this. The second explanation relates to the ongoing struggle over who will succeed Mahmoud Abbas as president of the PA. It has become clear that Fayyad, a former World Bank official unknown to Palestinians before he was boosted by the George W. Bush Administration, appears to be the current favorite of the US and other PA sponsors. Channel- ing more aid through Fayyad may be these donors' way of strengthening Fayyad against challengers from Abbas' Fatah faction (Fayyad is not a member of Fatah) who have no intention of relinquishing their chokehold on the PA patronage machine. Many in the region and beyond hoped the Obama Administr- ation would be a real honest broker, at last bringing American pressure to bear on Israel, so that Palestinians might be liberated. But instead, the new administration is acting as an efficient laundry service for Israeli ideas; first they become American ones, and then a Palestinian puppet is brought in to wear them. This is not the first scheme aimed at extinguishing Palestinian rights under the guise of a "peace process," though it is most disappointing that the Obama Administration seems to have learned nothing from the failures of its predecessors. But just as before, the Palestinian people in their country and in the Diaspora will stand stubbornly in the way of these efforts. They know that real justice, not symbolic and fictitious statehood, remains the only pillar on which peace can be built. ----------------------------------------------------------- Hasan Abu Nimah is the former permanent representative of Jordan at the United Nations. ------------------------------------------------------------ ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ |
Moves:The content in bold refers, obviously you did not read his earlier response/reply or that you read it and chose to ignore the insults. |
Jarus:Seems you have forgotten the insults and bad remarks he made about people who disagreed with him earlier on the same subject matter. You don't insult people and expect them to thread softly. I don't believe in insults (either direction) but on Dele's response and handling of the issue I must state that it falls short of expectation considering the number of years he has spent in the journalism business. I hope he has learned a thing or two from the exchanges anyway. Meanwhile, it seems it is now an established fact that he rarely concludes a piece without putting down MKO's name. Na wah ooo. |
naijaking1:Is the guy really from Enugu state? |
OgidiBoy:Nigeria is on 230V. Any appliance that requires 0.22amps in the US with 115V will require 0.11amps at 230V. However, the appliance must be ready to work with 230V to work. |
These companies and their websites with so many errors. Sent an email to UBA on my inability to access the Udirect website as the login button doesn't work, have been trying since last week. They responded and confirmed that the address was ok. I normally use Chrome or Firefox and have been trying to login without any luck. Then it occurred to me it might be a browser compatibility problem and I then fired up IE8 that I have but rarely use and the application worked just fine. I sent a reply telling them that the application worked when I used IE and made it clear that for a bank it is poor style to have a major application working in a particular browser and not all or most of the browsers out there. |
I have IE8 running and the most up to date versions of any software I use and that is because I play around with a lot of technologies. I am even running virtual desktops on my laptop with multiple operating systems. |
I guess I also need clarification as regards what the original poster means by latest technologies and what time frame he believes one must embrace the latest technologies otherwise the person can be said to be lagging behind. In fact to help the debate, what are these new technologies so that we can have a common reference point? @yawatide, When did these companies implement the latest technologies when compared to when these technologies came out? Even as successful as google is anytime it ventures into any new technology it tags the solution as beta and tells you that nothing is guaranteed and that the solution may be discontinued at their discretion. My point is that once money is involved the owner of the business would not want to gamble with what has not been tested and proven ok to warrant spending money. NB: Do not use the 2 - 3 years to hammer me because I just posted a known fact when it comes to the world's most successful and popular operating system and its rated of adoption especially when new versions are released. |
therock32:Why don't you upload a version of the application online (with limited functionality if need be) so that you will have a wider audience as regards advertisement and recommendation. Do you intend to write schools and visit them to show them what you have developed? Just trying to figure a cost effective way of getting the message out because any money spent without a corresponding sale will mean that you will be losing money instead of making money and I am sure that is not what you have set out to do. |
Latest technologies do not always mean better technologies. In fact, reliable solutions do not rely on latest technologies as anything may and can go wrong which might impact a business negatively. For me, I focus on what has been tested and proven. Tested technologies are more reliable and that explains why big organisations usually wait up to 2, 3 or more years to switch to a new version of technology like Windows operating system. There are companies that have not used anything more current than Windows XP yet, Vista has come and gone and we are talking about Windows 7. Smaller businesses and individuals are more likely to embrace and use latest technologies because the risks are not as high as those big organisations are exposed to if something goes wrong. |
EnobongOS:I don't have any but based on experience I will make some points that you are very free to discard. 1. Unless you run a generic company where every single aspect of what needs to be automated or web enabled is common to as many generic companies out there as possible chances are that you will need a highly customized/tweaked solution or a new solution built from scratch based on your requirements. 2. I built a software for an oil servicing firm about 2 - 3 years ago from scratch and before doing so I was informed by the company that two companies had earlier done presentations of some off the shelf products they had with them and they were not satisfied with what the solutions had to offer. They told me this because they asked me to do a demo and I responded that I must be paid to do any demo because I will spend my time and energy to develop one and as such I don't do free demos. (Well, I guess the fact that someone that knows them too well recommended me for the project made them not to show me the door as the boss could not hide the shock that someone had the guts to insist he will not do any free demos when 2 companies had done demos for them). I simply told them that I can web enable any business process they want to enable that it all depends on them to tell me exactly what they want. What happened? Had some discussions with them concerning the features and functionalities including access control, agreed on what made perfect sense and the cheque was signed, project developed and delivered within the stipulated time frame (under 30 days) and everyone was happy. 3. So, just realize that many people who get off the shelf products end up not getting what they want unless of course what they need to do remains very common. Considering the fact that once payments are made for projects like these you rarely get your money back so it is better you arm yourself with enough relevant information to be able to make a buying decision. Sometimes, it is cost effective to develop a software solution from scratch than to attempt to tweak an already existing one. |
37ports:This is what happens when someone wants to hear what he/she wants to hear as against what the person should hear. If you have a contract then get a lawyer to take a good look at it before deciding to do anything because in the real sense can you prove that they have not done (or are not doing) what you paid them to do? N5M for a 3 years contract and today is the first time I am hearing about this website? Well, do what makes the most sense to you because ultimately whatever decision you may take only you will bear the full consequences. Good luck. |
Printing our money abroad may also give the printers the freedom to print naira since all it will cost them is the cost of printing the money, not so? |
No wahala. Enjoy the rest of the week. |
That was why I stated that by the time this bank wahala is over new media houses would have been opened, existing ones would have made a lot of money and in the process the reading, listening or watching public would have been fed with all sorts of information from outright lies to conspiracy theories and to imaginations of the writers. At the end of the day the average Nigerian who should be better informed may just become more confused and inconsistent based on conflicting reports by media houses on the same thing. We are still far from responsible or investigative journalism in this country. |
Akanniade:Without meaning to disrespect you I will state the following based on your comments. 1. You used to build inverters but don't do so now. Why? Is it that you could not get it right and as such have taken a position that because you could not get it right no other person could? 2. You stated on another thread that you have tried inverters from India and China and that they are not reliable at all. Your 2 years of using inverters including building yourself and buying imported inverters don't give you the right or the expertise to make categorical statements about inverters. 3. The inverter I use in my office was built locally and I have never used a generator in my office for over 5 years and hardly use a generator in my house. This means that we do things right, we build reliable inverters and offer meaningful enforceable warranties on them. Your comment on reinventing the wheel will not be delved into because that often quoted phrase is one of the major reasons why the inverters you have bought from China and India have always failed even when these inverters are built in semi or fully automated production lines with state of the art machine tools. Akanniade:The 3rd post on this thread was made by me so I don't see why you are asking what my take is on the guy's claim. No one knows everything about technology so dismissing a claim simply because you are not aware is not the way to go as you may be wrong. I asked the poster relevant questions as anyone should. |
Never knew it would be easy to prove that you lack any form of credibility. Have you noticed how you have carefully avoided the facts and have instead chosen to stick with words like "may", "reason", "likely" and "justify"? As they say when issues come to logic some people begin to see ghosts. As information flow and access increases by the day people like you who will shamelessly agree that your people are foolish just because a northerner stated so will be easily identified just as I have stated that the Igbos must look for the enemies within who masquerade as politicians, contractors and internet warriors like this man. An Igbo man cannot discuss what he thinks others think of the Igbo but a shameless Igbo man who effortlessly agree that his people are foolish just because a northerner stated so? God forbid the day I will have to see the Igbos for what they are through the words of non Igbos. You are a shameless Igbo man. You have done enough to prove that indeed your credibility is lower than zero. Or, did you miss out the part where your savior and mentor stated that the Igbos are foolish people? |
I thought he gave his approval to EFCC. While making valid claims we should also update the reading public on what is going on lest we make decisions based on incorrect statements. |
Onlytruth:You have no right to tell me about objectivity here. You are referencing a northerner because you believe he supports your position, right? Does his support equate to being right? What of the countless number of northerners that hold opposing views to that of Sanusi? Would you also support Sanusi if he makes a u-turn tomorrow? Your point is your point, Sanusi's point is his. I have a right to have mine. The correctness or otherwise of my points have nothing to do with you agreeing to the points. I am sure if I travel to the SE and pick up a membership card from MASSOB you will turn around and claim that my points make sense. Please, spare me the rhetorics and discuss issues based on facts. I don't have time for double speak and I am not lazy to the extent that I allow people to think for me. Present information based on facts and allow people to make up their minds. You cannot think for anyone. Having said that, this nation must realise that Igbos have more than paid for their foolishness. The quote above was taken from what you reproduced as Sanusi's support for your views. Is it not a shame that you agree with a comment from a northerner that the Igbos are foolish? In your bid to justify what cannot be justified you have made it clear that you are ok with a northerner telling you that your tribe, your ethnic group and your people are foolish. Maybe your people are foolish, mine are not foolish. The Igbos may have made mistakes, they may have been too arrogant but foolish is something I cannot use to describe the Igbos. Until you are able to prove to us that indeed the Igbos are foolish people I will simply see you as another Igboman who is ready to sell his birthright just to please non Igbos. |
@topic, Can you please state a single reason why you think Ribadu was a fraud? |
rhymz:My friend, I am not a northerner or a south westerner so cannot speak for them, in fact I don't even have the right to speak for the south easterners. Every post I make here is based on the fact that I am Igbo and have a right to comment on issues concerning the Igbos. I am not unaware of the envy or jealousy that existed even before the war because even from some members on this forum I have read where the Igbos were accused of being arrogant and flaunting their wealth because a lot of Igbos were doing well as far back as before the independence. I have also been a victim of the so called quota system and other policies that are being initiated and supported to under develop the south east with active and passive connivance with our own people just for their own selfish ends. I guess its time we focused our attention on the enemy within as that may be the worst enemy. Onlytruth:The content in bold refers, if there is one thing I am sure you cannot question in any way and by any reasonable standard it is my thought process so in as much as you may disagree with my views I would suggest you challenge any positions you have any problems with than advice me to think carefully because I am not a people pleaser neither am I going to become a hypocrite just to be seen as a good Igbo man. I say it as it is and I have no apologies for doing that. I am ever ready to fight and defend my position based on truth, not because someone somewhere is lying about something and expects me to fight based on misinformation or unnecessary sentiments. And on survival strategies let it be known that I do not belong to any group or movement but rather I advocate the training of the mind, knowledge acquisition and obtaining relevant skills that are in demand especially in IT related field because this is one area where favoritism don't last and in the final analysis people, bodies or governments would look for you to pay you to do projects regardless of tribe or ethnic group. |
biggjoe:When a group is accused and someone within the group believes he/she is innocent of the allegation or accusation it makes perfect sense for the person to state his/her case otherwise it will be wrongly assumed that every member of the group is guilty of whatever accusation. So, I had to repeatedly point out my stand on the issue because I was not guilty of what you were accusing the members here of doing. |
biggjoe:You made an accusation and that accusation has been proven to be false because my position and comments proved you wrong. Rather than accept your mistake you are trying to justify it. This is the attitude of a typical Nigerian who would rather go to war, lie, defend anything than accept a simple mistake. Only an insane mind would believe that someone who queried why the person being accused has not responded to the accusation and went ahead to prove that the person actually visited the forum, edited his earlier post while the exchanges were going on but refused to respond to the allegations would be seen as someone taking sides with the person being accused. We have a huge problem as a people and it is even a bigger problem that we cannot find the courage to admit our mistakes when we make them. Works like "think" and "likely" have no place when people are talking about facts especially when people are disagreeing on issues. Your personal opinion on anything cannot be a substitute for fact. |
