@Afam

if you have plans to expand your business there is nothing wrong to access loans from a bank to do so.
That is how an organised society works.
My not using any bank loans for my businesses does not mean that I am against using bank loans. Of course, people are using bank loans and succeeding so I cannot fault the use of bank loans for businesses.

My comments were to correct a wrong notion about business and loans.

The interest rates are way too high and that is why a lot of people default as you may end up working to repay the interest and not grow the business you collected the loans for in the first place.

there are different types and levels of businesses.

He's owing N8 billion- that's a pointer.
What's my business with the amount he is owing?

His statement was that businesses cannot survive without loan, a statement that is false.

Types of businesses and levels of businesses do not in anyway justify the wrong claim.

And trying to justify or excuse the statement is also an impossible task.

First, those Nigerian facilities need to be improved. I had a cousin die at the same LASUTH  only a year ago. He only came in complaining of a fever.
That he complained of fever does not mean he had fever.

Good doctors would ask you for symptoms and not let the patient tell the doctor what the problem is. He could have been suffering from anything.

However, doctors can only work when they have enough information to do their jobs and with the average Nigerian mentality of knowing everything most times people hardly answer questions correctly until maybe things become too serious.

Fever is not a killer disease and to insinuate that someone died because LASUTH could not handle fever is ridiculous and in bad taste.
PoliticsRe: Jimoh Ibrahim: I'll Pay Today! (Oceanic Bank Loan) by Afam(m): 3:49pm On Aug 24, 2009
Jimoh Ibrahim's comment that no business can survive without bank loan is very wrong.

That quite a lot of Nigerian businessmen think that business is about buying and selling instead of ideas does not make the statement true at all.

I have never touched a bank loan and I run two businesses.

I only hope that the younger generation will take advantage of information technology to start and grow technology based businesses where what you know naturally becomes your capital and asset.

It is this same wrong idea of business that has chained a lot of Nigerian businessmen to buying and selling be it spare parts, refined petroleum or cement.

What's with Financial Times? We owe no one any explanation as regards what is best for us as a people and as a nation.

The core issues are unsecured loans that are not only non performing but were recklessly given out by so called executives that ignored all sensible precautions in giving out the loans when genuine businesses in Nigeria cannot even access up to 0.0001% of what individuals have been given without any collateral.

Exactly!!!!!
Some don't even know the difference between defaulting on loan payments and dipping hands into the treasury to loot. I still continue to maintain that accessing loan is a legitimate aspect of business. In fact the reason we are so obsessed with collateral in this country is because of our poor identity system which Mr Risk Manager will do a better job resolving in collussion with the Minster of Interior rather than terrorising Business MEN.

audit this audit that. Very soon we will start auditing those who audit the Banks.

how much food does it put on anybody's table?

this people should go and set up Business Incubators or work through the NIPC to encourage SMEs
All this noise of audit and talk about Foreign investors is waste of time

We need to grow our economy in our own way and by our selves.

There is no point instituting IMF Risk Management system if at the end of the day the process destroys the economy.

My advice for Sanusi is to put mechanisms in place to grow the economy. Not risk managing an economy which we all know needs to be nutured and grown.
For God sake we are just an economy dependent on Oil ONLY.

The CBN Governor will put his time to good use working with the Energy Ministry, Finance Ministry and Commerce and Industry Ministry to grow the economy.

Where we are headed now is we will be bugged down by Nigeria's slow  Court Process all because someone is keen to use there new office to settle previous personal scores.
Plugging the hole (in this case excessive loans without any collateral that are not being serviced) is the best thing for the economy for now.

How can you explain the fact that an individual is given up to N30B without any collateral and you have thousands of businesses that cannot even have access to N200,000.00 to invest in their businesses or to turn a viable idea into a profitable venture?

Jimoh claimed his loan was performing.
Claiming his loan was performing is not the same thing as claiming he didn't owe money. He queried the amount and claimed his loan was performing. This does not equate to denying he owed any money.

Denied they owed money or denied the amount owed?

Generally, when a person who is seriously sick (liver/heart/kidney disease) dies,
it makes sense to assume he/she died of the serious sickness unless otherwise proven.
1. Abacha was not seriously sick.

2. You can only talk about assumption if no information has been made available concerning the death and I believe that relevant information has been made available. This is over 12 years.

Can you point me to the source of this "detailed information"?  It's not on wikipedia.
Do a search on google I believe you will come across some articles on Abacha's death. Wikipedia? A public encyclopedia in my opinion cannot be a reference point for facts. It favors those that have access to tools to publish information and if the majority oppose anything then you will have overwhelming content opposing that thing there.

However, if I come across one of the articles on the detailed happenings the day he died I will post it.

On Abacha

Detailed information has been made available on his death, yes it had to do with a woman (his former girlfriend) who was given spiked viagra by a general who didn't know of the plot to kill him and not the Indian women story that the media fed Nigerians.

There was never any talk about Abacha dying of any sickness and that is my point in raising the question on this thread.

And the chairman of Inspiration FM is the same sacked CEO of Intercontinental Bank? How come GO Adeboye did not know that the chairman was running Intercontental bank aground?

Use of the word "may" in any statement or prediction actually provides a soft landing for any statement or predication that does not happen and conditions are usually attached so as to make excuses when nothing happens.

My worry is that the attention tithes and offerings are receiving in churches today is way to much, misleading and definitely not what God is interested in considering the fact that He created everything and owns everything including those who think they can impress God with their wealth. No one is focusing on salvation, we are not hearing more of lover thy neighbor or the need to resist evil no matter the consequences.

Many of the so called Christians who will use the same mouth to preach and curse, carry out wicked acts, lie and misinform are just jokers and even though they may be able to confuse men they cannot confuse God who sees through all the hypocrisies and sycophancy.

Military rule was the very form of government that brought Nigeria to its knees. 40 years of military rule led to the decay of our national infrasture, the looting of the nation's coffers, and the jailing (& execution) of pro-democratic Nigerians. But most of all, it had a very negative impact on the professionalism of the military as it planted the seeds of mistrust with the ranks.

Now this fool Nwobodo wants to incite the military to plan a coup. Maybe the govt should lock that idiot up at the detention facilities of the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DMI). That'll teach him a bit. Unam ikot.
Why are you calling an innocent man a fool?

If you don't know the difference between Nwodo and Nwobodo then you don't qualify to make any comments at all on this thread.
PoliticsRe: Atm Without Cash In Abuja Airport. by Afam(m): 8:09pm On Aug 21, 2009
I think I heard there is a new directive to remove ATMs from public places. This might be connected to the directive as the banks make money on commissions charged for withdrawals so would not want to lose such opportunities.

Well, considering the seriousness of the banks in question Nigerians would not bother too much on the use of "I" by the CBN governor. All we want is action that will help sanitize the system because another person might use the word "We" or the "CBN" without doing anything tangible.

When we were formed

Established in 2007, the African Finance Corporation (AFC) is a private sector-led investment bank and development finance institution created to help mobilize and channel required capital towards driving Africa’s economic development.

The AFC has a 21-member board with a majority from the private sector. In line with global best practices and corporate governance, twenty percent are independent directors and the additional six available board seats are reserved for share holders from other African countries.

Board of Directors
Chairman of the Board:
Professor Chukwuma C. Soludo, CFR
Governor
Central Bank of Nigeria

Director:
Mr. Andrew Alli
Chief Executive Officer
Africa Finance Corporation
The quote above is from the website at http://www.africafc.org/

I placed a call to the company and asked the person at the end of the line that I needed to confirm some information, he asked for my name and where I was calling from and I gave him the information, obviously he was communicating with someone else who I believe asked him to confirm the information I wanted and I told him I needed to confirm the current chairman of the board.

After a while he told me that the receptionist was not on seat and that I should call back on Monday by 10.00am.

For me, the article referenced above was written last year and as at that time Soludo was still the CBN governor so the most logical question to find a good answer to right now is - Who is the current chairman of the board?
PoliticsRe: Soludo Was Chairman Of AFC. They Owe N32Bn by Afam(m): 3:26pm On Aug 21, 2009
@kuramo,

Thanks for the information provided.

I made my comment based on the fact that without Soludo being the CBN governor there is no chance in hell that he would have been given a chairmanship position in the AFC.

Now, who is the current chairman of the AFC? Is the chairman still Soludo who does not have any powers as CBN governor or has the chairmanship position been given to the current CBN boss, Sanusi?

Answers to these questions will help us know the facts because I am tired of the lazy journalism that is going on where people sit in their offices and decide what they want to feed Nigerians using their media outfits.

Many thanks for your time.
