Now that the insults are done with I must say thank you for the padding comment, found that very useful.

Gamine:
Dude,

what gives? Early morning and your already running hot.

Site===Product, ok.

Improve the color scheme, site is haphazard.

'padding around your text', doesnt answer this??
1. Site is not equal to a product. A website is an online platform to sell, inform, offer feedback, share, educate etc

2. Thanks for the color scheme comment but in reality your opinion does not count on this one especially as color scheme improvement is highly subjective and certainly is not definitive.

3. Site is haphazard is another comment that is neither here nor there so I will ignore.

4. Padding around the text. Yes, I have done just that. But you have still not answered my question as regards what padding values are regarded as standard values.

You must understand that while you believe you have the right to use words anyhow you like others may choose to exercise such rights too.

well, gamine got a point with the padding there
We must learn to communicate. Asking for reviews is not the same thing as asking for unnecessary insults.

I didn't notice the padding issue (which I have sorted out) but for her to ask if I have ever heard about padding was totally unwarranted and inappropriate.

Let me repeat this - asking for a review does not give anyone any right to insult anyone.

Personally, I don't insult people but when insulted I always respond in kind.

So, the issue is not whether she has a point with the padding issue but her insulting remarks which I believe I have responded to accordingly.

This is how we go about abusing people just because we believe we have the right to do so.

Gamine:
Yeah thats the comment, how can we review a product
when we don't know what it does.
Review on what exactly?
I did not ask you to review the product which is onspeed. I asked for site review so stick to it or don't bother. I don't want to spend my time exchanging posts on irrelevant issues because I usually don't let sly remarks go unanswered.

I offer reviews here and I no better not to attempt to insult the intelligence of the poster by making the type of remarks you made the first time.

Gamine:
Padding around your text, makes things more viewer-friendly
I informed you that I know what padding means in my earlier post. I asked a question as regards what you consider adequate as regards padding.

Quite understandable. I asked for comments or reviews.

Hello,

Comments and reviews for a new project needed.

Interswitch integration should be sorted out in the next couple of hours or preferably days but apart from that the bulk of the work has been done.

Content for policy and terms should be added later in the day.

I use Dreamweaver to handle simple straight forward tasks everyday but I am not limited by the inherent limitation of dreamweaver itself because I simple revert to writing raw codes and navigating through logic.

The most important thing is for the programmer to understand whatever underlying code he/she may come across.

As a matter of fact most authoring tools have problems that seasoned programmers end up tweaking themselves unless they intend to wait for the software maker to release updates.

If you want to know the extent of problems inherent in some of the popular tools out there just visit the software owners website and see the support or forum section (if they are even bold enough to setup one) and you will be shocked at the number of mistakes, errors and bugs that even the latest releases of popular tools come with.

I agree with this. The thing about IT is that if you don't take the time to learn and understand it then be prepared to run into avoidable problems as issues would come up when you least expected and it becomes worse if you don't even understand what went wrong talk less of knowing how to fix it.

They are the top hosting companies as regards the number of domains they have registered.

This has nothing to do with being the best or prove that they are the best.

I think the ads by the side stoodout more than the main content itself. otherwise nice idea, maybe a little graphics (well done) wont hurt.  wink
I agree completely with your observations. I will work on them before the day runs out.

The newly registered domain name may not have fully propagated on the internet and it usually takes up to 48 hrs in some cases.

You should begin to worry if after 48hrs the domain is not resolving to your host based on the DNS information you have updated.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria To Dredge Niger River - What's Your Take? by Afam(m): 8:25pm On Sep 12, 2009
Jakumo:
During every year's rainy season, and in numerous junctures along its winding course southward through central and southern Nigeria, the River Niger spreads out into shallow seasonal floodplains, where nutrient-rich sedimentary deposits carried by the flow rejuvenate a vast, meandering ribbon of farmland, whose cultivation has fed significant populations of Nigerians for generations.

The proposed plan to dredge the River Niger, if actualized,  will concentrate the flow of water into a centralized narrow shipping canal, whose depth will prevent the occurrence of that natural annual flooding over of seasonal farmland, denying the crops planted there that vital flow of river-borne fertilizer, and placing at grave peril the livelihoods of all communities who rely on the continued viability of that farming for sustenance.

As the River Niger fans out into the multitudinous tributaries of the Niger Delta, her seasonal flooding of rain forest and swamps has for eons created the ideal conditions for those areas to serve as nature's aquatic incubator, where new generations of numerous fresh water and marine fish and shellfish species emerge, migrate and mature, to sustain both traditional community fishing activities, as well as industrial marine fishing fleets on the high seas.

The damage caused to these fragile eco-systems by oil pollution from the Niger Delta oil fields, though massive, will PALE in comparison to the systematic annihilation of all bio-diversity in the River Niger basin that would result if the threat to dredge the entire course of that river is carried out with the kind of industrialized thoroughness that is possible using modern dredging equipment.  Whatever may be the personal or regional economic returns envisioned by those currently scrambling for contracts to dredge the River Niger, THE COST, measured in human lives and livelihoods, as well as in destroyed aquatic specie breeding grounds, will be orders of magnitude more severe.
Propaganda without any facts backing them up.

We must not turn every issue to a Niger Delta issue where the people from Niger Delta think that every other Nigerian wants to benefit from the region.

The River Niger runs runs across many states of the federation and the benefits of the dredging far outweigh any problems that may come with it.

@larez,

Thanks for your comments on this issue.

I agree completely that Nigerians or indeed Africans have refused to do what works best for them rather they prefer to take what foreigners or developed nations say as the ultimate even when these countries push their selfish interests while masking them as sincere advice or concern for Africans.

WebmastersIntroducing Nigeriawebsiteblunders.com by Afam(op): 6:10pm On Sep 12, 2009
Hello,

Recent threads about errors and blunders on some websites here got me thinking - why not develop a website strictly for the purpose of listing website blunders while giving both web developers and clients the opportunity to meet under the same platform?

Registered members, web developers and clients can

list their website projects in the web directory
list blunders found on some websites
ask for website reviews
list events relating to web development
create profiles
maintain blogs

I have also listed the site in the review section so feel free to offer your reviews.

The web development industry has a lot of opportunities and for us to take advantage of these opportunities we must demonstrate that Nigerians can deliver on website projects.

Comments and criticisms are welcome as usual.

Afam respects other people's views?

You probably don't read the foreign affairs section.
The wonderful thing about a discussion forum is that it gives one the opportunity to tell the world how narrow minded one is.

For your information and understanding note the following

1. If you have a stupid view on an issue I will not respect it.

2. Being entitled to your own opinion does not mean that others must accept them.

3. The problem you have is fundamental and what this means is that you think people must respect any views you may have no matter how warped those views are.

A question that will expose your hypocrisy

Considering the fact that the FG's positions on national issues don't go down well with the masses as many of us disagree with those position does it then mean that Nigerians don't respect other peoples views?

Get real, until you learn to debate or argue based on facts, logic and common sense your views will be summarily discarded anytime they fall short of basic reasoning.

However, I must let you know that the correctness or otherwise of any issue has absolutely nothing to do with your acceptance.

Enjoy the weekend!

Afam,

Is it possible to make the photo gallery more interactive by either using a javascript lib or on the pop up, adding "next" and "previous" buttons. Though I would personally go for the latter, either way, I think better interactivity will be something that site visitors would surely appreciate.

In other news, I did a google for your site and though it didn't come up, I noticed that it was referenced at ttp://nigeriavillagesquare.com - by you cool

Finally, I noticed that you don't have any keywords, description, and the site isn't registered with google webmasters and analytics. Though probably late in the game, all these would surely help in helping the site rank highly. The latter in particular would help you with data gathering would you could further use to sell the site (where hits came from, how long people were on the site, etc).

Thanks.
Thanks.

However, when it comes to google I have a very weird position on google that is why I don't do adwords, adsense, metadata stuff, keywords etc.

Not sure you would want to read my view on google especially as many website owners have abandoned the important task of making their websites useful for the customers and instead are busy chasing google around and trying to please google while forgetting that google is a business entity implementing strategies and features to help its own business.

On the gallery stuff, I may most likely add the navigation links on the pop up once I am less busy. I have been writing codes all day.

Okay, for the benefits of Nigerians that envision themselves in South Africa. Either for business, study, medical, tourist, religious, marketing research, holiday etc I have some great information's for them.
There are alot of Nigerians applying for different country visa and the intending country embassies refuses them the visa.
Therefore, No any embassies in the world have the right to refuse anybody visa because economic wise they are making money from the applicant.
These are some of the reason(s) why they refuse applicant a visa
1. Physical appearance ( don't forget the adage that says the way you look, that is the way you will be attending to)
2. the way you respond to questions
3. your documents
4. application form
5. not adhere to lay down rules
6. no good intention
7. not involving God in their plan
8. no good plans
9. no genuine require documents

I would have love to share more tips on how I obtain my first south africa visa and how you too can! but I have created a free loaded report on that. if you are interested in the report don't hesitate to mail me on therichson@gmail.com or call me +2348096754252, +2348061314784. Are you here to talk about how to obtain VISA or to complain about the Nigeria Police?

It seems you have not told us the full story as regards the police thing you started this thread with.

The last the Tunisians scored where was Taye Taiwo and why where the defenders running away from the goal scorer as he approached the 6yard box?

What happened to the young but compact team that beat France and Kenya 3 - 0?

Out of 4 games so far Nigeria won just one and drew 3.

Now, what is common in the 3 matches we drew?

The insistence to use the trio - Mikel Obi, Joseph Yobo and Taye Taiwo because Amodu is scared of losing while forgetting that the people that have won matches for us in the recent past are the younger guys in the team like Chiejine that handled the same No 3 position that Taye Taiwo is always overlapping from without having the strength and stamina to return to the wing and without anyone covering up for him when he vacates his wing.

Why is it that we find it difficult to do the right things or stick with a winning team?
WebmastersRe: Advice - Have 2 Proposals Ready For New Projects by Afam(op): 11:46am On Sep 09, 2009
Being able to consistently develop websites and applications without having problems is not an easy task considering a lot of factors that come into play. From factors you have control over to those you don't.

However, it is possible to develop some principles and and stick to those principles.

I must state here that what works for Mr A may not work for Mrs B so there is certainly no "one size fits all" solution here.

Feel free to trash the advice below and if you like them implement at your own risk. Put differently, I am not offering any warranty on them.

Closing deals is not really easy but from past experiences I have come to insist on the following

1. Always remain professional - stress the fact that you must be compensated well for professional services rendered

2. Never do a free demo or presentation - I have lost projects due to this but at the end of the day some of them return after bad experiences with others and for those that don't come back to you they respect you even though they don't like your guts. I tell them time is money and that I could develop a static website from start to finish by the time I come back from any free demo or presentation.

3. Insist on reasonable payment schedule. I usually ask for 100% before commencing on any project but when we have a clash of company policies I insist and settle for 70% advance, post a copy on a testing server and allow the client to see and comment on the project as it is being developed and once everything is certified ok by the client I get the 30% balance before moving the project to the client's server. That way the client cannot use the live project until my money is 100% paid. The cost of chasing people for balance is rather high as you will be the one making the calls or paying for transport.

4. Be ready to refund part payments if the client becomes too difficult to work with or if he/she continues to ask you to integrate or add extra features that he/she is not ready to pay for. I have had to refund hundreds of thousands of naira on some occasions anytime I notice that the project may bring problems because I will not take any insults regardless of how much I am being paid for the project and I will not implement extra features without charging for them. I usually tell clients that throw insults around that the money they paid was for the project and does not give them any right to insult me and that if they want me to forward a quote that will cover insults they should just let me know and I will send to them.

Trust me, the road is certainly not easy but worth the stress and very rewarding.

This is the whole essence of the web - convenience.

Again, it would be nice if the Gani Family had access to this.
I sent the website address to some of the media houses but I doubt if any published it thus far since the day the website was setup.

I sent the same website in the body of comments I wrote on www.234next.com and www.saharareporters.com on articles/news on late Gani but none of the comments were displayed.

Obviously, these guys may feel that because they are not the initiators of the project they would not like to publish even though the project is not a commercial based one but a freewill gesture to celebrate a worthy Nigerian.

However, after reading this last comment I searched for contact address of his chambers and called a GSM line I saw there. Someone picked up the phone and I told the person about this website that has been on since Saturday where people can post news, photos and sign condolence register.

The person stated they were having a mass for him at the court and tried to copy down the website address, thanked me for the gesture and promised to inform those that needs to know about the website.

Honestly, the day Nigerians will have access to relevant information that is free from unnecessary selfish controls and politics is the day things will begin to get better in this country.

Even on the internet people control and filter out genuine, useful and authentic information for their selfish ends.

Sad scenario here.

The emphasis is on reliability and safety of unit, connected loads and personnel.
