adaobi123: LmaaooAtleast move it to the French Embassy in London, so that i can borrow Yuzedo's private yet and come and parry ![]() |
MacLovington: ![]() Aba-Ngwa 2060 won't be such a bad idea ![]() |
Happy Byday Asampete Nwanyi Oma. Pls move the party to Paris so that i can celebrate with you. I can't come to London ![]() |
CFCfan: Yeah, US cities really have no commercial rivals, with the exception of Dubai, Doha, and the upcoming Eko Atlantic. That's because each cities were left to develop at their own pace hence the reason why you have soo many commercial cities in the US. London and Lagos have taken a lot of juice from Britain and Nigeria respectively. They've taken what is supposed to have been shared by everyone. |
CFCfan: Those cities can also host the olympicsProbably. But if they're competing against bigger cities like Chicago, Houston, Sydney, Toronto etc then they'll fall flat. |
CFCfan: Its a city in South eastern England.Never heard of it in my life and if i havn't heard of it then it can't good enough. I only know the popular places eg Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Brixton, Glasgow, Cardiff, Belfast etc. |
CFCfan: ^^I just hope she's not your sister cos i hate when, after badmouthing someone to my friend and my friend then tells me that the person i just badmouthed is his/her sister. I like her though ![]() |
manny4life: Shey I will chop commercial? Yes I understand the commercial aspects, but Lagos or Onitsha are crowded cities without infrastructures as opposed to the commercial host nations. Lagos is fast improving her infrastructures, but is it enough to host an even where more than at least 50,000 people are expected in the country? Answer is NO.. The traffic jam alone on the highways is a no-no, the dirty streets, the uncoordinated activities including extortion and what have you gives it a FAIL. It's easier for cities like Enugu with peaceful environs to maintain decorum than Lagos. The capital involved in the upgrade of both cities are on a scale of 1:10, yet you'll be surprised that these cities have same values like Lagos does.Manny, it seems you don't understand the commercial value of the Olympics. if Enugu were to host the Olympic, where will the crowd come from? Are you aware that Enugu is to a large extent, a civil-service state? London, Rio and Tokyo are chaotic in their own rights just like Lagos though with better infrastructure. All Lagos needs to put in place are those basic infrastructure and they're good to go. For any other NIgerian city to host the Olympic games then the city will be turned into a construction site. |
CFCfan: The olympics are generally held in highly populated cities in order to guarantee a return on investment. That's why the Brits put forward London in 2005, instead of Milton-Keynes or Norwich.Abeg, na where be this? It's not like Britain had any choice than to present London cos no other city is Olympic material. It's just similar to the situation in Nigeria. It's not like in the US where over 20 cities are capable of hosting the olympics. |
piaget+skinner:If i hear say Nigeria still exist by 2080 ![]() |
CFCfan: The likes of Adesewa Josh, Cynthia Areh, Maupe Ogun, Esther Ugbodaga et al are more than pretty! This is the lady that hosts one business program right? I have a crush ![]() Maupe Ogun, Cynthia Areh and Adesewa Josh are not fine facially but dem packaging na die. |
manny4life: Abeg o, no to Lagos..Apart from St Louis in Missouri and a few other cities, most cities that have hosted the Olympic stadium are usually the commercial capital of their country. Enugu and Calabar will be a good city for it's orderliness about just like Abuja, at least to some extent, they don't have the character to host such an event. I'll even place a sportless city like Onitsha, Aba or even Ibadan before Enugu. All Lagos needs is just some cosmetics and it is good to go. |
As it stands now, only Lagos can host an Olympic games. Abuja is a low self-esteem city with no character to host such an event. |
manny4life: Ahh, Afam Nwanne'm... so you got to me like this?I would like the bolded very much but unfortunately NNewi is yet to get a stadium or should i say, a good or an Olympic stadium. Even Onitsha doesn't have a stadium. |
manny4life: They say a patient dog eats the fattest bone, so Nigeria should continue on her path economically and we'll get there with time. Granted there's a transformation agenda going on, but you know how embarrassing it will be taking light at Maiduguri stadium in the night of the opening ceremony? This is what scaress me whenever Nigerian hosts an international event. I remember being at the edge of my sofa few years ago when we hosted the under-17 world cup. I was praying in my mind "I hope NEPA does not take the light in the stadium...i hope the flood lights are working...I hope people show up in the stadium...i hope..i hope". That's what happen when you're a citizen of a dysfunctional country. |
manny4life: That Rio did it doesn't mean Nigeria by default should. Like I said, greed is a factor in business. The Olympics Committee don't give a hoot what the host nation charges, they are interested in a comfortable place where the event is held and required infrastructures in place. Rio is trying to make their money, a ticket to an event shouldn't cost an arm and a leg unless you want front row seats.I get your point and like i said, the only way the stadium will recieve a reasonable number of spectators is if the ticket is free or dirt cheap and that will only help in filling 30% of the football stadium and other sports stadium will remain empty cos we just don't have the Olympic culture.Nigeria is a one-sport country. |
manny4life: How I mean is that the average security (training, logistics, personnel, development, crime scene handling, response time) etc, on per average, London smacks Maiduguri to the FACE... Shebi isn't it the same London that has the highest Camera foot print per sq.ft? aka the highest number of CCTV installed in a comparable city of its size?Lol I'm just trolling oo. See as you take am serious. Who compares Maiduguri to Abidjan how much more London...it's funny though. I remember the government led by the greedy Northern politicians, wanting to use Bauchi as the Nigerian host city for the commonwealth games without considering these variables. |
As far as hosting the Olympic games goes, i think it's one step at a time. We have hosted the "All African Games". The next thing is the commonwealth games which our host city was beaten by one small town in Sctoland. If we can host the commonwealth games and convincingly then we're one step closing to hosting the biggest sporting event of mankind. |
manny4life: Afam, I disagree with you on that one o..Pls, have you seen the price to seats in the Rio olympics? This is not shoprite price that we'r etalking about. Of course there are Nigerians that can afford it but they're in the minority. The majority can't afford it even if their lives depended on it. |
manny4life: Oya post the pishure na....What do you mean by that? Does the London police have more security than Bokoharam? |
manny4life: More like Nigerians by default are greedy. An average Nigerian can buy a ticket to an even if it's cheap not when it's 10x the standard price. It's because they simply can't afford. Except the government will open the stadiums to all and sundry. We don't even have an olympic culture to start with as we can't even fill up a football stadium how much more a shooting or Canoeing stadium. We're just not there yet. |
I think i'll give it to CHannels or TVC. Yes, AIT too. |
adaobi123: Its not just Maiduguri....its the whole of nigeria. Nigeria ain't ready........yet. CFCfan: Nigeria will be ready by 2028The truth is that Nigeria has the financial muscle to host an olympic game but we don't have the character. I won't want a situation whereby stadiums will be virtually empty because people cannot pay for sits. I think the Olympic games prosper in countries will a large pull of upper and middle class people. |
CFCfan:That one na stadium? London dey learn where Maiduguri dey ![]() |
adaobi123: Not in this life time. What do you mean? Have you seen the stadium in Maiduguri? It's world-class. Pls let's give credit where it's due. |
Symphony007: spain is bankrupt, even if madrid won, the citizens will revolt and demand it be taken back...in a country with over 20% unemployment, spending money on olympics is the last thing on their mind. The same way Brazillians are revolting? I don't think zilch will happen had Madrid one cos they have the basic infrastructure to host the games and won't need a gargantuan budget like Rio for example. |
Tokyo is a nice city and i'm happy for them...I hope Maiduguri wins the next one. But i don't know why cities that i support keep losing out. I remember supporting New York against London and Chicago against Rio. Na wa. I think the Olympics will not go to any US city for a long time because Atlanta 96 just happened some years back. |
If this is true and the directive came from Jonathan, then it's an abuse of power. |
Abagworo: Dede the article is satirical. Afam understood the whole write-up and its about Igbos looking for a Saint while others adore their criminals. Rochas has the chances of emerging President but Igbos are fighting him and trying to prove he's not a Saint and hence does not deserve to be there but ironically Jonathan whom they are supporting is worse than Rochas in every ramification.Spot on! We seem to be the only ones always looking for the saint in our midst to represent us whereas it seems other parts of Nigeria keep rallying behind their very worst as the Nigeria of today has mandated them to do. While i'll like to see the likes of Utomi, Anyaoku, Iweala, Akunyili, Soludo represent us, i think we should not throw away the dogged fighters like Rochas and Kalu because if you look at the prominent people from other regions, they're worse than these two. It's only Igbos that don't seem to understand Nigeria very well. We keep playing kindergarten politics while others are currently earning their PHD. |
London has skyscrapers Never knew. |
I hope ideye is watching this match. |
Funny article with some truths in it. What the writer is just trying to say is that Igbos still don't know how politics in Nigeria works. |
