“However, if a migrant becomes violent or engages in acts of terrorism as some of the herdsmen have done, the governor, being the Chief Security Officer of the State, has the power to ask them to leave. While i agree with a state asking certain people to leave the forest since they're occupying it illegally, I need to make it clear that Fulani Herdsmen are not migrants. They're just as Nigerian as anybody else. That's not to say that their excesses should not be curbed. |

Politics › Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Afam4eva(m): 10:00am On Jan 05, 2021 |
BastardWike: The part in bold is not absolutely factual. In 1950, the population of Onitsha was 74,000 while that of Abeokuta was 79,000. Now, can you compare the skyline of both cities? Onitsha has continued to evolve and now has a decent skyline while Abeokuta has stagnated. In the East, we demolish older and smaller houses to build bigger ones and that's why drone pictures of Eastern cities always tend to be more beautiful than its counterparts in the West.
First picture below is Onitsha while second picture is Abeokuta. It would have been nice to see a pic of both cities in 1950. I can assure you that Abeokuta was more developed than Onitsha during the colonial days but the reverse is the case today. So, it's not necessarily because we demolish older houses in favour of new ones but because we build houses in places where there were never any houses. |
Politics › Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Afam4eva(m): 10:34pm On Jan 04, 2021 |
BastardWike: I think limited lands available for development is partly the reason for having evolving cities and towns. Why I said so is because cities like Onitsha, Enugu and Aba have sections especially in their "town" areas that are over hundred years old yet those sections now have modern looking houses. However, Ado Ekiti and Akure are all relatively new cities yet you will still find more ghetto looking settlements than you will find in say Aba or Onitsha that are probably older. In Aba for instance, in places like Azikiwe road, Asa road, Ehi road etc. you will see people buying bungalows or one storey buildings only to demolish them and build 4 or 5 storeys. In the 1980's bungalows and one storeys we're common but now 4 and 5 storeys are envogue. Maybe, in 2050's 7 and 8 storeys will be the norm. If only our state governors are up and doing, we would be having the best cities in Nigeria. Most Igbo towns are new and i don't think there's any that is up to 100 years oold as a town. What we had were villages and hamlets. For instance, what was known as Enugu during the colonial times was what is today known as Ogui and it was still a village with very few modern building as at then. No matter how old a building in igboland is, it can't be older than building that you will have in say Benin, kano or Ibada. But i also agree with your argument that Igbos tend to demolish older buildings in favour of new ones. The same thing cannot really be done in some parts of Ibadan for example, because you can have an entire town section that are very old and have existed for over 100 years. And as far as land is concerned, this is the time for Igboland to favour upward development because we have limited land as it is and need to start building sky scrapers or atleast more modern versions of what we have in Onitsha. |
Politics › Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by Afam4eva(m): 6:50pm On Jan 04, 2021 |
BastardWike: In Igboland, we are lucky to have cities and towns that keep evolving as time goes by unlike other parts of Nigeria or even Africa where slums constitute a significant part of their cities. However, our biggest problem is that government has failed to keep pace with urbanization. You will see areas with fine houses lining up the streets yet terrible roads, open drains and zero aesthetics.
State governments should even pass a law that any house with spaces must either plant grass on it or use gravel to cover the red earth. We live in a globalized world and perception is very important. The thing is the Igbo towns and cities are newer than those from other parts of the country. That's why you see newer building in Enugu or owerri than you would see in Ibadan for example. The only down side is that our government are some of the worse in the country, so you don't get befitting roads for these new houses. Just imagine a julius berger constructed roads in Owerri, Awka or Onitsha for example. |

IDENNAA: Pay no mind. He knows what I meant when I said Anambra. Anambra is not two. Enugu was added to Anambra for convenience not because we were one people. Again, ndi Enugu na eli eke fa na Ndi Ebonyi. They are the same people. I'm sure tomorrow if Anambra is divided into 2 states, you people will start another agenda. It's just like stereotypes. Like how I used to hear about how Anambra people do blood money and this was when Enugu was part of old Anambra state. As soon as Enugu was carved out of Anambra state, all of a sudden, Enugu people stopped doing blood money just because they didn't take the 'Anambra' name. |
Culture › Re: The Best Ogene Musicians In Igboland (videos) by Afam4eva(op): 7:38pm On Dec 31, 2020 |
IDENNAA: Sorry , even during the old Anambra days we knew who we were. Our cultures are different, very different. Anambra and Enugu arent the same people not in food , traditions or language. We know who we were. There are similarities on the fringe but as you move deeper the difference becomes obvious. Enugu na eli eke!
Now, to your question. I believe I have answered it , already. We are rooted in the Omanbala traditions. When I say Omanbala I meant the today Anambra with a unique culture. Lol Aint no such thing as Omanbala tradition. Not saying towns around each other cannot be related in some way. You can keep telling yourself that to feel good or so that agenda must agenda. Wherever you go in fringes of Anambra, it bears a similarity to the state that they border. Anywhere that borders Enugu probably is similar to the communities that they border. Ihiala is probably more similar to mgbidi than they are to Onitsha and so on. Not saying there isn't some similarities between Anambra communities but you can't really call it Omanbala culture. |
