nani667: In my opinion Januzaj didn't flop at all tho... Dude was good... Had tons of potential, at some point he was the one that was singlehandedly carrying us during the day's of Moyes.... It was just a matter of mismanagement after Moyes left and he was eventually Sold.... Negative managers didn't let him shine... That dude was much better than Lingard
His sale really Pained me sha.... Dude would have been rocking that RW now
What you just explained is the reason for his flopping. Like I said earlier there are many reasons that can make a player flop, and not all are due to the player.
The uselessness of the team and the mismanagement by coaching staff were major reasons why he flopped, but saying he did not flop is false.
Lana1: Or maybe it's a case of the top English teams not trusting their youth players enough to give them a chance.
They would rather buy Dalot than use Tuanzebe while they keep sending TFM on loan after loan.....same way they killed Perreira's prospects and almost used loan to finish that one.
Mbappe was 17/18 same age as Greenwood when he took Ligue 1 by the balls. And just in case anyone wants to argue that Ligue 1 is a farmer's league, they guy has already proven himself in the Champions League and World Cup. At least if we wont rate Ligue 1, we can at least rate Bundesliga. Jadon Sancho is another example. Sancho is 18 and a starter for Dortmund and he has 6 goals and is leading the league with 9 assists.
United needs to start taking risks and give some of these youth players a chance. Who knows, Greenwood might be the long term solution to that RW and we wont even have to spend a dime.
Using Youth players is all about risks and if it pays off, then it will be to the club's benefit in the long run. Eg. Kane, TAA. I really hope we get to see the likes of TFM, Gomes, Chong & Greenwood getting some serious minutes in the first team from next season. At least not all of them fit flop like Macheda or Januzaj.
You have made good points. If they give him a debut I am fine with it, but there is no need to rush things at the moment. Maybe they feel from the training sessions that he is not physically ready, I don’t know. What i know is that if OGS and Mike Phelan are certain he is ready they will hand him a debut.
Mason Greenwood seems to be on a level superior to his U-18 team mates. I understand he shouldn’t be rushed but waiting too long could stunt his growth and development.
Chong, Gomez and a few others have experienced 1st team football already. Shouldn’t Mason get that same taste to keep him hungry?
I’m not asking that he be thrusted into the first team and placed under intense pressure to deliver.
You do have a point and he has played for the under 23 side as well and scored goals for them.
He just turned 17 in October and there is no rush since we have 5 or 6 senior players fighting for 3 spots in attack. He just got promoted to full under 18 in August and then jumped to under 23 a few months ago, if they can be patient and not rush him again I think he will be ready by next season.
pazienza: This is painful, but Arsenal fans must realise that we have been deceived and taken for fools by the triumvirate of Kroenke, Wenger and Gazidis.
During our early days in Emirates, we were told to endure crappy results occasioned by constant loss of our star players, with proceeds from their sales not reinvested into the club.
Wenger reassured us that we were in no financial position to spend on buying Big players or give our Big players pay rise to entice them into staying with us. We were told that it was a temporary situation, and that once the stadium debt were paid off, that we would be in better financial position to challenge for top honors.
13yrs down the line, the club have finished paying off the stadium debt, but we are being outspent by the likes of Everton in transfer market. We had gone from the ridiculous ones to the pathetic one's. Meanwhile, Wenger and Gazidis are no longer here, they had collected their own share of Kroenke pay offs, while the Arsenal fans are forced to deal with the mess this club has become.
Excellent write up. Could be the script for 13 years a slave.
Leyqute: OGS, Phelan and Kieran McKn should already be thinking about integrating Greenwood into the first XI. They could put him on the bench in dead rubber games this season and edge him in bit by bit next season.
That boy could be the solution to the RW. I think he'll do well as a RWF.
He can play RWF, LWF, CF, and can also lay as a 10 (actually played more 10 before he moved to under 18 last year). I think they are being very cautious with him because they can't afford to mess this one up. Also with the number of forwards we have in the first team now they can afford to be patient and give him time to grow (he is only 17 and is so much bigger than when i first saw him 2 yrs ago).
People that have been watching him since he was 10 are still not sure about what his better foot is. He takes free kicks, corner kicks and penalties with his his right, dribbles with his left and i have seen him score mutiple goals outside 18 with both feet. His two-footedness makes his step overs more effective because he is effective in either direction. Check out his 1st and 3rd goals against Chelsea.
Unlimited22: I heard there's no too quality African keeper in the EPL, and there has never been any to compare with Salah.
Where is Bruce Grobelaar from?
Bruce Grobbelaar was at his peak in the 80s pre-EPL, and even when he was at his peak he was arguably the weak link in that Liverpool side. He was no Ray Clemence that's for sure.
elrony: Dude uses his left like Nicolas Pepe, but even more his supposedly weaker right foot issa venom..
You said he's 17?
Yup, just turned 17. If Chong, Gomes, and Greenwood ALL fail then they need to tear down the youth program and build again from scratch.
There is nothing like a sure thing in youth football, but he is mighty close. I'm talking Pogba, Ravel Morrison level. The caveat is that for different reasons, out of our most talented youth players that i have seen e.g Guiseppe Rossi, Pogba, Ravel Morrison, James Wilson, Adnan Januzaj e.t.c ONLY Pogba has achieved his potential.
There are so many factors that come into play when transitioning from youth team to senior football, and talent is only one of many of such factors. Injury can derail in the case of Wilson, Will Keane, Rossi. Indiscipline and lack of focus in the case of Adnan, Macheda. Sociopathic behaviour, lack of discipline, criminal activities in the case of Morrison. It can be a poor coaching staff or a manager who does not believe in young talent or even a team that is in free fall and too much is required of the young player too soon like Adnan's case.
Mason Greenwood with 2 free kicks and an assist in victory against Liverpool Under 18, coming from 2 goals down to win 3-2. Goals and assist were with his "weaker" right foot.
Lana1: Afrodoc2 i read Mislinat will be leaving Arsenal before the end of the season. Maybe Woodward don tempt am to come to United as DoF.
Yes. It appears there was a power play between Raul Sanllehi and him, and he felt he did not have enough say in things.
I think it would be wishful thinking to hope that he will be coming to us, especially cos i have not read any serious links. I believe Paul Mitchell is more likely, and he did a decent job at Southampton and Spurs before moving to the Bundesliga.
There are several options, not just those 2. The main thing is getting a man with connections in the transfer market and a track record of building attack minded teams AND making sure player acquisitions is out of Woodward's hands.
tenmariner: Did anyone noticed lingard almost cost us yesterday. He was always yanked off the ball during a counter attack. Going forward, IMO, I strongly feel man u cannot rely on lingard in the CM position. The time his weak link up play will cost us could be imminent.
Lingard almost cost us nothing in terms of game play. He played well, but some people just never ever see anything good in the boy. He might not be Lionel Messi but he is Jesse Lingod the moonwalker, and we like him like that.
lekkie073: counter attacking has always been one of the core United ways of playing. no system is fail proof and as such, can be beaten. for the fact that the system has worked effectively against small teams and big teams alike says a lot.
I am not just talking about the counterattacking football in general but about the tactic of the front 3 players(especially the wide men) almost never coming back to help the full backs.
The overload on the full backs is incredible in this system but the advantage is that we often have 3 of our players against 2 of the opposition defenders during our counters.
It is a gamble that has worked so far but that overload on our full backs can’t be allowed to continue.
Oasis007: I really enjoy it bruh. Football is losing its value. it's more about Money now, no more Passion for the Game!
Football used to be like Spartacus (blood and sand), but now it's simply more or less black Panther (comic play).
Roy Keane was the best. Imagine the coach said, “no training this morning, you guys must be tired from the travel” but Keano said no that training must hold.
liveLongNprospa: For Damian.. I really feel like he can do a good job at cb during cup games. It's a hunch tho
The moment we get proper CBs that can stay fit Darmian should leave. The only things he has going for him are versatility and fitness. But it is versatility in mediocrity, and that fitness is only so important because the rest of our defenders bar Lindelof and Young are sicklers.
My argument is not about benching Martial for Lingard. Both players play in different positions.
But if they’re competing for the same spot I’d put Martial on the bench at the moment and allow someone else to offer what he always offers until Ayinde gets back to form.
Mata isn’t offering much at the moment, that’s why Lingard gets the nod.
That being said, we still need someone on the right side who will offer more than what Lingard is offering and be consistent with it.
Well said. This is not really about Lingard, but about the more talented players that have for multiple reasons refused to play up to their potential standard. When we get someone on that right side with the level of consistent quality we need Lingard can go to the bench, while Mata can move on.
Personally I think it is time Mata, Valencia, Fellaini, Darmian et al left the team. We need to eradicate all the slow poisons in the team. We need speed and technique.
The major problem is ensuring that their replacements are of a higher level than them.
Martial has refused to be consistent since he signed for Man U... As for Alexis.. Age is definitely not his friend and just maybe we can say he has declined abit due to his injury.
Until the end of the season UNLESS Alexis or Martial find a way of regaining their form and playing on the right side. Because as it stands it is Rashford and Lukaku competing for CF, Alexis and Martial LWF, Lingard and Mata RWF.
Lingard should not normally be a starter in the team. We probably need to buy a much better player for that right side and have Lingard come off the bench. However with the poor form of Martial and Sanchez i will start Lingard ahead of them FOR NOW.
Ibime: Shevchenko is 2nd from left na. I dey find Opong Weah and Rijkaard. Which kain racism be this na?
Oh I didn’t see him. Opong Weah no too shine consistently like that for them. And that his WPOTY apart from being a bit of a Modric was all about timing.
The best players i ever saw for Milan were Van Basten, Baresi, Maldini and Gulit.
