PietroRick: I agree with the general direction of the point you are making. It makes sense but saying we will need to replace Godin in 6-12 months is a bit of a stretch.
We would have to consider ourselves extremely unlucky If we do not get 3 years out of him, the kind of bad luck that would be akin to having your 100m player suffer a double leg break or a career changing knee injury few matches into his 1st season.
Also I believe if we have the chance to get someone like messi to come play for us for the next 3 seasons, nobody would consider his age and the need for his replacement shortly after for obvious reasons.
Comparing messis potential contribution to this our team to what Godin will do to our defense may also be a bit of a stretch but it is to understand the general direction of my thinking. Pace has never been a key component of Godins game.
I am also tired of being asked to pay premium for being a few months late to awareness of a player: Maguire, milenkovic, Militao, Skriniar, zagadou(free transfer in the summer) the list goes on and on.
In those 2-3 years, we should then be able buy quality players for that position without even waiting for him to go kaput and without looking desperate. Part of why we almost always overpay for players is that we always look desperate, and the selling club feeds on this. Godin is going to be 33 next month and you think you will get 3 yrs from him in the EPL? His lack of pace has not been an issue because all his teams play low blocks and especially international football is played at a slower pace. Bringing him at 33 to a faster league, with a less defensive formation, lots of space in defense with high flying full backs will be suicidal. The first quality we should be looking for in CBs in this new system is pace. Godin would have made more sense under Mourinho but in this system with space as big as Niger State in our defence buying him will be a mistake. And yes, comparing him to Messi is outrageous. Messi is a GOAT candidate, Godin is not even in the discussion for top 10 CBs. |

patrickmuf: Rojo and Jones have to go, how do you get injured all the time sitting on the bench or maybe they're just after their weekly wages, a pay as you play contract should be drafted for them if they must stay... I hope we end the match as a contest in the first half so that OGS won't think twice about bringing in the youngsters. Just read that Greenwood is injured. Not sure about Gomes. I never liked Rojo and even i have given up on Jones being injury free. I don’t mind both leaving at the end of the season. The greatest ability is availability and I am tired of Jones raising my hopes only to go back to hospital. I really, really hope Chong gets extended minutes. |

patrickmuf: United squad vs Reading:
Romero, Grant
Dalot, Young, Jones, Lindelof, Darmian
Garner, McTominay, Pereira, Fellaini, Fred, Mata
Rashford, Lukaku, Martial, Sanchez, Chong
#MUFC
Afrodoc, I hope we get to see Garner and Chong at some point. A blistering start to the match and they might have their chance today. I don't know why Greenwood and Gomes are not in the squad and we are really slim at the moment when you look at our CB options? Where's Rojo? He's been missing one too many games. Rojo is injured as usual. I would like to see more of Chong and Perreira in this game. I don’t know why Greenwood has not made any of the recent squads. Garner’s rise this season has been exponential but I am not sure he is physically ready. |

Creatrixity: I say, if we can't get Kalidou Koulibaly or Matthijs de Ligt, we get Akanji. Anyone who has watched him play this season will understand why he is rated highly.
Mobile, really good with the ball at his feet and also pretty good at reading play and breaking up attacks with interceptions.
Only negative in my opinion is that Dortmund may only sell for maga level prices being German Yahoo Boys and all. I like Akanji. Zagadou is not bad as well and will only get better, and he is left footed. Umtiti is left footed as well, i have always liked Varane. Koulibaly has been playing like a boss. These are the kind of players we should be after because we know Pep will keep breaking the bank for any position on the pitch. We can't compete with that by chasing overaged players on a free transfer. |

SIRcumalot: Godin is on his way to inter. Good. A defending who is getting slower by the day should not move to the fastest league in his 34th year. There are many established, good quality in the 20s. |

PietroRick: we are talking about Godin here o and not Boateng or Koscielny. Or has something happened to Godin in the last 6 months that I've missed? It is not until something happens to a player. We need to learn to be proactive rather than reactive. I am not interested in someone that will need replacing in 6 to 12 months. Everybody gets old and the fall is often without warning. There is no skill that Godin has shown me that Baresi and co didn’t have in multiples, and even they had to go. There are at least 5 defenders I will take ahead of him despite his quality. He is old and reaching that age when players kaput. He is not the quickest and might not fancy the high line we are playing now. If we buy him it will be another Zlatan/Schweini scenario. |

PietroRick: that man has at least 2 years to give at the highest level, for free I would jump all over it We should have learnt our lessons from Schweinsteiger and Zlatan. We need long term solutions and not all these short term fixes that people are talking about. You spend 6 months chasing a player and finally get him, only to start another 6 months of chasing his replacement in a year or two. |

SIRcumalot: What about Godin ? I read that he and AT. Madrid can't seem to agree on salary and he could leave on a free. We should be all over that. Diego Goin is turning 33 next month. We can't be loading the club with aged men that will need to be replaced by next year. With the way things are now i don't think it is wise for us to be any player above 28yrs of age. This Dalot and Zlatan/Alexis pattern of buys is not the right way to go. |

Oasis007: How good is Toby Alderweireld?! He's gonna be available for £25m in the Summer, hence I presume he can be bought for £30+ in this Transfer Window. Spurs just extended his contract to an extra year so I don’t think they will be selling. Plus he is turning 30 this year. There are equally good CBs who are in their mid 20s. Koulibaly, Umtiti, Varane, the Dortmund CBs are more appealing to me. |

All valid points, fellow Bluuus.
1) Recall Baba Rahman from his loan to replace the inconsistent Alonso.
2) Recall Bakayoko and Lewis Baker from their loan to play double pivot.
3) Sell Kante, he does not fit Sarriball. Sell Jorginho, he is a defensive liability.
4) Sell Hazard, he does not want to be here anyway.
5) Recall Miazga and Omeruo from their loan to play as ball playing CBs to replace the error prone Luiz and Rudiga.
6) Finally play Willian in his natural position as a fake 9.....erm false 9 rather.
My 2 cents.

I don't know if it's lack of match fitness or sharpness or he is just completely and totally finished.. Whatever it is, I hope he never starts for us again, especially when Mata is on the pitch That was not a good call by OGS as neither Mata and Valencia can beat their man 1v1 on the outside and whip in good crosses consistently. Why do we want to be storing up on geriatric full backs? This is an issue that Pep addressed sharperly when he got to Man City.
We should offload Valencia at the end of this season and either allow the younger ones we have develop into the role or buy another RB. Young can stay for one more season.
We can't go into next season depending on 34yr old full backs abeg. |

patrickmuf: Valencia obviously has not gotten the memo yet, he thinks it's still Mourinho, his attacking play was zero. He'll definitely improve as he was one of the victims of Mourinho's ultra defensive approach to games.
Jones is still Jones, always that one nervy moment with him in the starting 11.
Rashford was kind of annoying today, he found himself in good positions but made the wrong decision often, credit to him, he kept going.
Lukaku was hungry and scored a typical poachers goal, Sanchez was rusty but with time, he'll come good.
Biggest credit has to go to Ole not just for his subs but his tactical set up, we managed to limit the crosses from the wings without being overly defensive (Mourinho, take note)...
Unto the next, Spurs it is at Wembley...The first real test but I am optimistic of our chances. Glory Glory Manchester United Valencia is DONE. The guy is 33 and has lost the extra bit of acceleration that made him serviceable. When a player with low technical ability and dependent on speed declines they become useless. |

MRTA7: Just a quick one. I know Rabiot,Ndombele are amazing players but what does this mean for our current pool of midfielders? Especially when you consider we just signed Fred? (looking a bad signing in hindsight although its early) Matic can't play every minute of every game. Fellaini can phuck off. We need someone with a higher ceiling than Herrera although the Spaniard can remain as a very useful squad player. Fred is looking like a bad deal at the moment. |

nihilistjnr: Depends.
I contract in IT via a limited company. It's mainly a vehicle for tax efficiency but I do have to make some business decisions...the most important being choosing which contracts to take.
Prior to that I sold things on the side and made a small profit.
I find this a lot easier than 20+ years of full time education. Our points are quite similar. The major factor should be your aptitude. Don’t just enter a business because school is boring or you are struggling a bit, without considering whether you have the qualities to be successful in that particular kind of business. |

nihilistjnr: do you have empirical evidence for this?. When I say generally speaking, I mean on the average. If you have 2 students of equal intellect the more serious one is more likely to score higher marks. There are many examples from school. Also amongst the mediocre students the serious ones amongst them spent maybe an extra year or 2 before graduating while the ones blazing weed and chasing girls were kicked out of school and never graduated. |

Such a nigga might end up selling food and making a very tidy sum from it before trying something else.
Business fail for any number of reasons no doubt, but for some people, sales are more intuitive than PN okeke.
Just because someone found school hard, doesn't mean that they may find running a business equally difficult. You are still not getting the point. We are not saying once you find school hard you must find business hard. The skill sets needed to make it in each field are not identical. However generally speaking your input is more likely to dictate your output in school, compared to business in which you can do almost everything the right way and still end up a failure. On the average school is easier and more reliable, though there are definitely people who find business easier based on their particular skills set. |

There is a formula to academic success that guarantees almost 70% of the time, is there any formula to business success? Very true. For the average person if you are serious in school and do what you are supposed to do you are likely to be ok at least. There is a formula to it. Going into business is another dimension. The same formula that made you a millionaire can make you pauper in less than a year due to external forces. |

business in the end boils down to buying and selling for profit, and I know many olodos in the strictest sense of the word who are very good at business. I don’t think that’s what he is saying though. The point is that just because you are struggling in school does not mean you should just jump into any kind business thinking it will be easy. If you don’t have the acumen and good fortune you fit wreck. And generally speaking school is easier than business. For an average person how well you do in school is under your control but in business there are so many variables that you can’t predict. You are right that there is little correlation between academic excellence and business acumen though. |
