I eventually corrected that notion but my primary point was that the English teams have never dominated Europe the way the Spaniards and Italians have. Whatever reason one might give this is highly debatable but it won't take away the fact that the Italians and Spaniards have always been much stronger than the English teams.
That is very debatable, it depends on what indices you want to use.
Spain has 16 titles but just 2 winners, Italy 12 titles but just 3 winners while England has 12 titles from 5 different winners showing depth and variety.
And in terms of dominant periods only England has ever dominated to the point of winning the European cup 6 years in a row. Spain went 5 years in a row and I believe the longest straight dominance by Italy was 3 years.

Lol
So many inaccurate statements all over the place.

Donjazet was wrong in his statement saying apart from 04-10 English teams had not dominated. The greatest era for English teams was not 04-10 it was actually 77-84 when they were rotating the European Cup title amongst themselves.

And of course Ibime was wrong, there were English clubs in the European cup in the late 50s and early 60s.
NO EUROPEAN CLUB , English or otherwise could have stopped the Real Madrid team of the 50s.

Silva does look good. He has all the skills, tends to hold on to the ball too long though. He might struggle with the pace of the EPL.

True, I guess that's an even bigger reason he should be one of our targets this season. I was hoping we'd sign him for RB last summer.
Ok, didn't really rate him that highly as a RB. I liked Aurier friom PSG last season out of the Ligue 1 RBs

actually it was just smalling that was woeful, rojo has been exceptional this season and deserves to start every game, since shaw isn't playing, rojo at left back would be just fine with bailly and Jones at cb
Rojo at LB is not too bad if Shaw remains out of the team for reasons best known to JM. But Bailly n Jones should be 1st choice CB for now and please TFM should start getting minutes at RB instead of Young, Darmian et al.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 2:17pm On Feb 20, 2017
I didn't watch the game but it seems the boys played really woefully from the posts here.
Smalling and Rojo don't really surprise me cos in my opinion they should be 3rd and 4th choice CBs. The problem with Jones and Bailly is relative lack of height and Jones fitness issues. In terms of pace, positioning, intelligence and ability on the ball they are ahead of Smalling n Rojo
And I think the usefulness of Carrick is coming to an end so Pogba and Herrera should be our first choice until the end of this season with Mikki at the no10, Martial from the left, Zlatan at 9 and either Mata or Rashford playing on the right.
Like someone said earlier JM has to be spot on with his rotation from now on cos we have got a deluge of matches coming and most are against tough opposition.

Di Maria that PSG fans have booed several times this season and the French press has criticised severally, the same Di Maria that Madrid fans booed year after year until his last season, the same Di Maria that was great 1 week and uttterly hopeless the next week while at United.

That guy is a scam artist, he is the MMM of football players. Always flattering to deceive and enticing you to invest but when it is time to PH he more often than not goes missing.
If you want to win a LEAGUE title you don't need players that blow hot and cold like him you need consistent players that will give you regular 3points. There is no need scoring 2 goals and an assist in 1 match then going 4,5 matches in which controlling the ball seems like Nuclear physics.

In the other 12yrs only Ranieri had enough time and he blooded like huth and co until Mourinho booted them out

Shebi van gaal had 2yrs at man utd, in Chelsea The other part of the 12yrs
After Mourinho, Avram Grant spent 8 months left for Scolari who spent 6 months and left for Hiddink
Hiddink spent 6 months and left for Carlo

Carlo spent 2 yrs and left for Avb who spent 8 months and left for RDM who spent 8 months and left for Benitez who spent 6 months and left for Mourinho who did 2 and half years. Back to Hiddink for 6 months now to Conte

Summary the only coaches who have spent a season in the past 15yrs at Chelsea are 2 Mourinho and Carlo. If Conte finishes this season he will be the 3rd longest serving coach at Chelsea since 2004. 13yrs ago.

So if Mourinho who spent 6yrs didn't blood anyone is it coaches who spent 6 months?
But I am not blaming any of those managers. The fault lies with Roman and his lackeys. They have been the constants in those years not JM who managed Chelsea for only about 33% of the period we are talking about.
Ryan Bertrand who had some potential went on 9 loans in 9 years and over a senior eligibility period of 9 years played about 30 matches for them.
Torres your friend played week in week out despite only being as potent as Lord Varys, while young talented strikers like Lukaku and Sturridge were not given much opportunity.
What happened to Rashford is not possible with the Chelsea set up.

While JM was away how many coaches spent up to a full year in Chelsea
You are clutching at straws in order to blame your enemy Mourinho.
How many decades did Giggs, Moyes and Van Gaal manage at United before blooding player after player.
That instability tells you that the problem is with decision makers at the top.
The fact is that in the 18 yrs since JT made his debut Chelsea has not produced any youth team regular in the team and Mourinho managed only 6 of those years...... what happened to the other 12 years ?

I think a coach determines whether you groom or not, Van Gaal in Madrid will look for youths even if its from the street and coaches like Mourinho on the other side dont have that much patience.

If Van Gaal was the coach of Chelsea for the Mourinho years, they most likely wot win as much but theyll have more youths

In many cases winning and promoting youths are like 2 sides, you can only have oe unless you are fortunate
The point is that when Mourinho was in far away Milan and Madrid Chelsea still did not produce any youth team player.
The constant k is not JM but Roman who is ready to sack coaches at any time. All Chelsea managers by default are on borrowed time and sitting on time bombs. In that scenario how many coaches will want to groom youth knowing that such a policy might lose you matches in the short term and as a consequence lose you your job.
You think if SAF did not have job security he would have pushed out Mark Hughes, Paul ince, kanchelskis et al en masse just to blood his Fergie's fledglings ?

P.S This is not in any way denying the fact that the risk averse JM does not really give youth players enough opportunity. I am just stating that Chelsea's problem with youth promotion goes beyond JM

In the pre Roman era there were some youth here and there. like Jody Morris the Lampard lite, Carlton Cole, Keenan, Robert Huth and most were shown out before Jose completed his first tenure

From Roman lets say 15yrs, Jose has coached for like half of that. The next coach in tenure is Carlo with 2 seasons. In the last 20yrs only Terry can be said to have come from the youth setup thats why he was sustained for long despite several mediocre performances to hang on to the Mr Chelsea from academy tag
Every team produces a few youth team players now and then. It is also easy for small and mid level teams to groom youth team players and Chelsea pre Roman belonged to that category.
But the teams known for grooming youth will do so whether they are battling relegation or fighting for titles. Chelsea is not known for that.
Otu oshi players like Gibson, O'Shea, Luke Chadwick played more matches for United than talents like Mcceachran at Chelsea.

Maybe you were expecting too much from Coquelin for starters because he has never been the sharpest tool in the shed. Secondly even better defenders dey typically larimo whenever Robben is involved
Robben's move is the closest thing to Kareem's sky hook that we have in modern football and very few people respect Robben like i do. Most times Robben sells them on the potential of an outside move first before cutting inside or he is just too fast for the defender who knows what is coming but can't stop it. Other times when he is isolated 1 v 1 against a defender he takes him into his torture chamber until the defender with twisted gut does not know where he is.
In this case Coquelin rushed towards Robben's Right foot as if it was Antonio "only right foot" Valencia.
It is not a big issue sha, i was just shocked that someone who has TV in his house would make it even easier for a killer like Robben who does not need any help.

You know that is Robben's only go to move. Can you stop it? Nope
That is not the point. It is one thing for Robben one of the modern greats to beat you with his go to move i.e is signature left curler, it is another thing for an alainironu like Coquelin to rush at Robben marking his RIGHT foot and making it even easier for him.
If you watch the replay the way Coquelin rushed to mark out Robben's right foot and left the inside channel for him was shocking. It was like he thought Robben was Antonio Valencia, that is why i said he must have a radio and not a TV.

SAF for no agree that kind deal. What is the target in that deal? So even if it took Martial 4 seasons to score those number of goals, Monaco would still have earned that money.
You wey no know ball from time nko? cheesy

We bought Bebe for 7million pounds in August 2010 when just 5 WEEKS EARLIER WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN HIM FOR FREE!
And he then played a grand total of 7 matches and scored 2 goals, that is 1m pounds per match.....or 3.5 million pounds per goal. Martial has already played 10 times the number of matches Bebe played and scored 12 times the number of goals Bebe scored.........The Bebe deal was WORSE

Yeah...but because of the boys potential it would be nice having him around for the league cup, dead rubber premier league games as well as even in some group stage Europa league matches! If he can develop at united he can become an even better player!

I just hope the money, rings and things does not do his head in IF we can get him! This boy can start for a premier league team as I dey look am sef....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxl4m6bJMj4
Mourinho is not playing a 16yr old in any match. Fosu Mensah and Tuanzebe that are 2x this boy's size and 3 years older can't get a sniff, no way Mourinho is tampering with his DEFENCE by inserting a youngling even if it is for Papa Ajasco Cup.
Apart from that my point is that the days of United stockpiling potential are gone for now. We need to buy peak players, reduce risk of failure and compete for titles RIGHT NOW. Buy Guerreiro from Dortmund( or someone of a similar profile) and let him compete with Shaw.

Me I don't know about other guys here but I watch a lot of championship football! I also like scouting out potential players from there so I wanted to know if anyone else thinks this 16 year old kid that has been doing big things in fulham at left back should be nabbed by us in the summer!

Luke shaw really needs competition in that role and no one else from the feeder team looks as dynamic as this "Ryan sessegnon" chap! Forget english hype syndrome this boy Plays as if he has played in the premier league before! Pace, passing, fearless, good defending, calm attitude and goals....all at 16? Someone should watch their next game and see if na black label don dey worry me since august or if the boy get am truly! shocked
I hear he is good for his age but he is not what we need now, he presently looks like an "i never chop" lol. What we need now at LB is somebody who is at the top of his game in his mid 20s like Raphael Guerreiro, Layvin Kurzawa, Danny Rose e.t.c . No more experiments with teenage English buys who may or may not work out in 5 years time.
We can't afford to waste more time. If by the end of this season Shaw still can't get into the team then we should go into the market and get a proper ADULT left back next season to battle it out with Shaw and may the better man win.

There is nothing Di Maria did yesterday that he has not done before. The problem with Di Maria is not lack of quality but lack of consistency. Shine today and be crappy tomorrow. That is allowable if you are playing in a good team with other great players around to pick up the slack when you are off form. However he came to a struggling United side in which he was the big money signing meant to play at a consistently high level to elevate the team and he could not do that. Consistency has never been Di Maria's strong suit, even this season at PSG he has received a large dose of criticism from fans and the media because of his lack of consistency.

£7m for Bebe, nothing wrong with that. SAF admitted he never saw him play but was told he had to hurry not miss out on him.

We bought defenders that period for £12 to £16m. So £7m was not too bad for a forward player.

The rest things you said, I say okay. May be we could say SAF had powers.
That Bebenlo was not worth cartons of beer. It is not about being a forward or defender, it is about being a player at all. Bebe is barely up to professional standards and that money was a complete waste. My point is the Martial money at this early stage in his United career is already money well spent compared to the Bebe money....so don't go saying Fergie won't have agreed to such deals.

All these points you noted would have qualified to be judged Rashford with if he's actually been given half the chance Zlatan has gotten on the CF position. Jesus achieved all that coz he was actually playing, and on top of that, he was playing in his position. Rashford has been played out of position in virtually all his games for us this season except against Wigan and few minutes against Leceister before he moved back to the wings. So Rashford can't be blamed cos he's been given any decent shot at CF.
My point exactly. You have an old man striker and he keeps playing 90 minutes come rain or shine. We are leading by 2 or 3 goals Zlatan plays 90 minutes, we are losing by 2 or 3 goals Zlatan plays 90minutes, Zlatan is stinking up the joint to high heavens and wasting clear cut chances he plays 90minutes.....MR keeps watching from the best seat in the house or when he comes on it is to help track overlapping full backs.
He has not been given decent opportunity this season in his preferred position. Funny thing is that it is in everybody's favour to manage Zlatan's minutes appropriately.
