saengine: My point exactly!! Stop going around telling the world that Nigerian OPV's will be 4 times more deadly than Frigates when you yourself also don't have any technical details regarding what weapons they will carry, since as you say the ships are under construction.
..

no i wont stop, i have my reasons. you dont have to agree with me because we use our brains differently. i am @Agugust and you are @Saengine, i cannot change to become you and think like you.

a modular weapon built by a country is a platform that is built to change role and combat ability in one day, you attack that country hoping to meet an easy weapon, then the defending country re-modularizes and you face a 4 times more d.eadly weapon, and you wish you never challenged them.

only F00LS go to war against modular weapons without calculating the d.eadly effect of re-modularization by the enemy.

thats how army generals think, they dont think like south africans who dont know what a modular weapon is, and in theie own backward thinking it does not pose any new threat....and that is what they are built to do...pose a sudden new threat.

buy/build a modular Type 056 warship with no missile yesterday. face war threat today. re-modularize it tommorow with YJ-83 missiles 4 times more d.angerous than valour class frigate Exocet missiles. win a war the enemy expected you to lose.

i dont have to post comment to satisfy any south african including you. nairaland is a free forum, i post for anybody who wants to add to his private knwoledge. period

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust:
saengine: Yes this is what the Chinese Navy will carry. ALL sources which talk about these ships and the Nigerian Navy only talk about 76 and 30mm guns, even your Nigerian Navy website. If the Nigerian version of the Type 056 is the same, why did the author of that link put "blood relation". You are merely getting the cousin of the Chinese version.

too early to speak about a ship that is still under costruction far one year away from delivery, or you have full details of the nigerian version with a source to prove it
? it is bigger, heavier, and longer travel range than the smaller china's version.

you have all technical details ? or the navy told you on that website that the list is all they will arm the ships with ? those are basic armaments of Type 056 that cannot be absent or else it will become a civilian ship, 76mm gun, 30mm gun, basic and least armament.

final decision on missile types may not have been made as at now and so it cannot be mentioned. nigerian NNS ARADU is a German built warship armed with Italian missiles. also the chinese YJ sieries of missiles have more than 10 very different versions available and its may not be decided yet which of the chinese missiles will be loaded or if to load european missiles on them.

Egypt is flying its 150 F-7 jets today with Frnace's R550 Magic missiles not chinese PL-9 missile.

if you have proof of all that is on board warships that are under construction, then post the source so that i can see how you know an unborn baby in the womb does not resemble his father by face. you have oracle powers to predict tomorrow you cannot see today ?

the modern trend in advanced countries now is to build small warships that are modular, meaning they can perform multi-role operations for both peace time and war time.

south african navy has no modular warship and i guess that is why you dont ever understand what a modular multi-role warship is. they are meant to be quickly re-armed in one day if a new threat emerges.

valour frigate is not suitable for round the clock patrol because of the cost and that is why south africa has already had to replace one ship's engines in a few years. OPV has capacity to work hard regularly in peace time patrol, and if it is modular multi-role ship like type 056, then its role changes to full combat in war time. i see more wisdom in that than to buy big ships that have only war duty and drain heavy resources in peace time.

south africa is feeling the heavy financial burden of its european weapons fron Gripen jet to Valour frigate. every country has its own type of defence/weapons policy. its a matter of choice.

wait for nigerian stealth warships to arrive if you want 100% proof of their missiles, anything you say now will be mere speculation or your private belief only.

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust:
saengine: The Chinese sold Nigeria those missiles because you guys were dumb enough to buy them. The F-7s China has are different and more capable than the F-7s Nigeria bought. There isnt one kind of F7. Your generals bought missiles with a range further than the jets radar. Assuming your radar will even pick up enemy fighters.
you say china's $5 million year 1990 versions are more capable than nigeria $15 million year 2008 versions, because in your own brain technology does not advance forward, it always reverses backward. right ?

show us clear source that states the technical details of china's F-7 jets and that of nigeria so that we can compare both and prove how 'truthful' you are that china's own is more advanced

....we are waiting for your post, do it if you have the courage of a man, source...technical details proof...post it.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 12:31pm On Jun 27, 2013
saengine: PL-9 with F-7 radar? Who are you trying to fool? Do Nigerian F7 pilots have look-and-shoot capable helmets? Now you want to say you have the best SRAAM in the world? Haha...ok then.

You are just trying to talk around the point because you cant find any link which suggests Nigeria will carry missiles on its OPV's like you claimed. The weblink you posted would not have said Nigeria is getting type P18N OPV's if they had the same capability that the Chinese Type 056 Corvettes. They just share a similar design, not weapons. If you say that they will do it in secret then there's no point to this whole forum. SA is secretly developing a nuclear weapon that will take out Nigeria....sorry there is no weblink, it is secret...haha.
the air force marshals of china and nigeria that agreed to arm the F-7 jet with one of the best missiles in the world are 100 times more technically competent than you are in your bedroom, they are masters of air combat, but you are not.

china is still flying her own 360 units of F-7 jets till today and near future, armed with the same missiles PL-9 as nigeria. i dont know when you personally became a better military technocrat than a whole China.

if your own level of intelligence tells you that any missile you cannot find on internet does not exist then you should pity yourself, i wont waste my emotions to pity you.

if you have doubt, then wait till april year 2015 to confirm when SIPRI database will list weapons that came to nigeria in january to dcember 2014.

i dont care what you think in your civilian mind, the military is 100 times smarter than you are. when you become chief of naval staff of south africa, invest 500 million dollars like nigeria to buy and build 4 modern warships without any single 1 million dollar missile to arm them, and retire all your old missile armed warships at the same time with all their missiles, then build a modern year 2015 navy worth billions of dollars that has no single missile available.

maybe that is the limit of how smart you can think. grin

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust:
saengine: Quote from your own link

" At least two versions of OPV having blood relationship with Type 056 have been sold to other countries. One is Royal Thai Navy's Pattani class OPV, and the other one is an enlarged version of Type 056 with 1800 full loaded, which have been ordered by Nigerian Navy and are called P18N.

On the other hand, two corvette version of Type 056 have been sold to Bangladesh Navy."

As far as I see, Nigeria is not getting the missile corvette. Just the OPV with similar design.

Even on the official Nigerian Navy website, all i see is 76mm gun and 30mm cannon. http://www.navy.mil.ng/General-News/13.news#.UcwTTDdUaCU
same way nigerian military did not tell anybody they are test firing long range missiles at epe lagoon, lagos.

same way that nigerian navy website never told us it has 40 Exocet MM38 anti-ship missiles, Otomat anti-ship missiles, Seacat and also Aspide ant-aircraft missiles.

http://weaponsystems.net/weapon.php?weapon=HH10%20-%20Exocet

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selenia_Aspide

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Cat

same way that source did not tell you it is a modular warship that is build to perform all roles from OPV to frigate.

quote : " Type 056 is the first Chinese warship with module design, which makes it cover the roles from OPV to multi-role frigate."

source : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_056_corvette

big countries like nigeria are not f.ools, if you attack such country that has a modular weapon that it built, it will re-modularise to effectively combat a new threat as each type of threat emerges. valour frigate is not a modular warship.

you too will you sit down and be looking at new threat when you have a home built modular weapon ? who wants to lose a war ?

same way nigeria announced it bought a cheap/temporary/low level F-7 jet fighter and never announce it is loaded with one of the most modern and best 4th generation jet fighter SRAAM missiles in the world today, d.eadly PL-9 missile.

nigeria has got the building of that warship at home in lagos, they will do and undo with it and tell nobody about it.

any one who likes to judge and limit a powerful country`s military to what they disclose on internet will get a shock in real combat. where are nigeria`s 300 new d.eadly untra-modern navy fast attack-assault gunboats on UN, SIPRI, IISS arms sales log ? 95% of them are not published since year 2008 when they entered nigerian navy fleet. anyone who assumes they dont exist is a F00L that wants to R.I.P. before old age

Msauza: That source above about SA military strength tells green lies. Here under is the credible university source;

http://www.iss.org.za/Pubs/ASR/4No6/Mortimer.html
your above source is old and out-dated year 1995 information. also that your very own source says south african military was 85,000 in 1995 and will be reduced due to the excess numbers starting from 1996, i quote

"During the planning of the SANDF, it soon became clear that the integrated force would far exceed future defence needs and thus rationalisation was foreseen. Rationalisation is defined as down-sizing and right-sizing"

south african military size is now reduced to about 60,000 including reserves as at today year 2013.

paniki: Maybe you are right. I'm just talking about military healthcare.
no military has a field hospital in battle zone equal to a standard city hospital. only life saving emergency medicals are done at front-line, if not enough, the wounded soldiers are evacuated back to base, then to homeland city hospitals.

nigerian society is different from south africa, our military can use a private hospital with a special facility if need be, but nigerian military hospitals are far better than nigerian civilian hospitals. i have been to nigerian air force military hospital at sam ethnan air force base, ikeja lagos...very very good.

thanks bro.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust:
Thiza: @AGAUGUST....Remember each country has its own priorities which are determined by a threat and defenece doctrine. South Africa does not need 50 Rooivalk helicopters due to the absence of convential threat. South Africa does not need 1 000 artillery pieces to protect its borders. Egypt does since it is facing direct and long term threat from Israel. Egypt has had two direct confrantation with Israel whith both wars lost by Egypt.

In absence of direct convential threat...South Africa faces a new long term and direct threat emmanating from unemployment, poverty, housing, health and other social ills. Therefore our defenec priorities cahnges and the best defence moves form expenditure on military hardware which may never be used into the mediate threats.

Hence South Africa has made extensive progress in building a better life for all than Egypt...Egypt spends nearly 10 Billion Dollars a year on defence and less than 150 Million Dollars on Health.....WHERE IS PROPER PLANNING AND UPLIFTMENT OF EGYPTIANShuh?

Many South African have posted pictures of economic upliftment and progress that South Africa has been able to achieved since 1994 than the entire Nigerians on this thread. I hope many would begin to ask a simple question...is pride on weapons and capacity better than fighting poverty and social diprivationhuh All the countries mentioned on military prowerness have worst povert level than South Africa......SOME DO NOT HAVE ELECTRICITY FOR MORE THAN 6 HOURS A DAY AND YET ARE HAPPING ABOUT THEIR EXPENDITURE ON DEFENCE...WHY NOT USE THE MONEY FOR BUILDING MORE POWER PLANTS AND IMPROVE ROADS ETC.......SOUTH AFRICA IS UNVAILING A MASSIVE DRY COAL FIRED POWER PLANT IN MEDUPI AT THE END OF THE YEAR AND WOULD BE OPENING ANOTHER POWER PLANT NEXT YEAR JUNE CALLED KUSILE.....IN 2023 A SECOND NUCLEAR POWER PLANT WOULD COME ONLINE AND AT THE END OF 2030 SIX MORE NUCLEAR POWER STATION WOULD BE ON LINE.
now you have change the story because i got you by surprise. grin grin

Thiza: @AGAUGUST....Remember each country has its own priorities which are determined by a threat and defenece doctrine. South Africa does not need 50 Rooivalk helicopters due to the absence of convential threat. South Africa does not need 1 000 artillery pieces to protect its borders.
since you now say that south africa does not have weapons like egypt because you dont need that much weapons, then....

nigeria too does not need Gripen jets in west african region of weaker neighbours like Togo republic. nigeria does not need Submarines because there is no such threat against us. simple

Thiza: @ agaugust I repeat once more again show me Nigerian world class produced weapons and stop mentioning other countries. Since you do not have photos just mentioned them and countries of exports....NOT FOREIGN BROUGHT WEAPONS.....NIGERIAN PRODUCTS...DESIGN AND PRODUCED BY NIGERIA......PROUDLY NIGERIA
as you claim south africa does not need many weapons like egypt, also know that....

nigeria too does not need a large DENEL weapons manufacturing industry like south africa that is looking for export market. true

nigeria only needs the type of heavy weapons DICON produces domestically for us to face threat of local t.errorits. fact

equation now balanced. i have made you to answer your own question by yourself. thanks grin

paniki: Regarding military health, the South African Military Health Service is in charge of Nelson Mandela's health and so far they have done a good job of keeping him alive without sending him overseas as is expected from other African countries. Mandela was first treated at 1 military hospital, the same hospital were the 27 SANDF soldiers wounded by Seleka were treated and only one has since died.
UN building staff in abuja wounded in the t.errorist a.ttacks were flown to south africa for 'better' medical treatment but they died in south african 'better' hospitals.

nigerian doctors are better than south african doctors. south africa has more numbers of world class hospitals than nigeria, thats all. there are many american and european world class hospitals in nigeria where the oil workers get treatment....i have been to ChevronTexaco hospital in Gbagada Lagos far behind that Deeper Life Bible Church, world class equipment and all nigerian staff 100%.

there are several such world class hospitals in nigeria but mostly private owned, igbinedion hospital, st. nicholas hospital, eko hospital, lagoon/hygeia hospitals, etc

saengine: Can any Nigerian tell me what weapons your 2 new OPV arriving next year will carry? All I see from the net is one 72mm gun and one 30mm cannon. With the rest being small arms.
whats your own source ? the new nigerian navy stealth warships are chinese Type 056 guided missile frigates one built by china and the second built by nigeria in lagos. dont let anybody deceive you, those ships are the most d.angerous in all africa, 4 times more dangerous than a valour frigate.

who will waste about half a billion dollars cash to buy and build 4 modern stealth navy warships armed with only guns and cannon like old time world war II vessels ? nigeria is not a F00L like some people imagine.

Msauza: Lies! Nigeria is slightly above 100 000 compared to 78 000 SA force + over 35 000 reservists. Why are you only putting more of your concentration on the Griffins? SA has considerable number of reservists pilots and What about the hawks as well? Computers have replaced manpower and not to mention computer controlled drones which can do the job far better than Griffins. Tell me how can 200 000 men deal with just over 1000 well armed drones? Probably the drones will start to beat the dog until the owner comes out.

Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 9:16am On Jun 27, 2013
OneQuestion: This is a military thread, is it not?

Do soldiers not get hurt out in the battlefield? Do these soldiers not need to be cared for and brought back home? Strong militaries have strong medics and strong military medical facilities.

Strong militaries have the ability to evacuate their injures while giving them primary care.

Now I ask - its a very simple question - who has these capabilities and who does not?

Pictures please. It's a humble request.

Question two - do soldiers not disobey rules of engagement sometimes? Do soldiers not misbehave and fail to listen their commanders sometimes? Do soldiers not get excited and kill indiscriminately sometimes? When this happens, is it not a threat to the ability to maintain a chain of command?

Strong militaries have strong martial law.

This has nothing to do with the beauty of buildings. It has everything to do with the strength of the system.

If you do not have an answer, simply say so.

The question is very relevant and very simple.

Who has the strongest military in africa? So, who has these things? Who has a solid base who does not? Please.
my opinion....egypt, nigeria, south africa, algeria, and morocco will have very good military medical corp...about equal or close to world class.

discipline, nigeria is good. several military court-martials have taken place recently for soldiers misdemeanor in domestic conflict zones at home.
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 9:14am On Jun 27, 2013
OneQuestion: You would've come across better if you had asked for clarification, as you need it.

Court martial or military law has nothing to do with other countries. It's an internal system of discipline - founded in codified or military law.

So I ask again. Who has it and who does not? Who has competence in prosecuting wrong doing and who does not? Who has a robust court martial system and who does not? Discipline.

If you cannot answer the question, fine. Say so.

Secondly, you have ignored question A. Medical facilities. Who has them and who does not? Who can maintain morale by properly looking after their fallen and wounded combatants.

May we please have pictures to support claims made.

Morale and discipline. This is what the questions talk to. May the questions please be answered. This is just a request of mine.
as i said, will be answered in a few days. are you yankee ?
Foreign AffairsRe: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by agaugust: 9:13am On Jun 27, 2013
OneQuestion: Alright Africans. Seen your pictures. You got guns.

Now, I have one question:

A) Once the enemy's guns have done damage, who does and who does not have the ability to (a) recover (b) look after and (c) treat their wonded? Who can and who cannot do right by their fallen men? Who has and who does not have proper medical care for their combatants?

B) might as well ask a second question - who has proper military law and prosecution capabilities to discipline wayward soldiers?

Together A) and B) talk to morale and discipline. Therefore, important.

May my question be answered please and not ignored.

I only signed up to ask this one question and am leaving. I will watch to see if it has been answered.

May I please have pictures posted of military medical capability and court martial (legal) abilities.
okay, we will answer your questions, however, since you want photos and sources to prove, i will need some days to attempt to 'assemble' those because nigerian military does not like making public photos of itself. may i just chip this in ? nigerian military has some of the best medical doctors and nurses in the world comparable to those of america. military medical equipment, nigeria is quite good, but far less sophisticated than america in that regard. disciple, nigerian military lawyers are world class, and we have very good court-martial systems.

like my friend @Patriot4 mentioned, it is very sad that the disciple in american military is very poor because the male soldiers have R.aped about half a million female soldiers including married women and get away with it...free as as the air. i watched a full hour TV documentary of these crying women just last month, so very sad, married women R.aped.

estimated, almost 20,000 american women soldiers get R.aped by their own soldier men with no justice ever done.

I know you trying to knock off the military manpower issue because Nigerian has 200,000 armed forces personnel and south Africa 60,000. You are already afraid of Nigeria's more than 3 times bigger number of soldiers that will white-wash south Africa worse than seleka rebels grin

This calls for a new round of discussions on this forum, it has been in my mind for many months now, I guess time has come to discuss this reality based topic.

Its not a copy and paste stuff, it requires practical thinking.

Henry120: OFF TOPIC

China's order for SU-35's reach 100, instead of 24. Contracts signed at the paris air show.

The SU-35 has the ability to pick out/ detect air targets at a distance of 400 km and has a combat radius of 1,600km.
nice russian jet SU-35 for china. the chinese are also building their own great J-20 stealth jet fighter locally too.

nigeria is very close to china now and they have been giving us good technology transfer for heavy weapons so that nigeria can build them in our own country and maintain them fully at home.

i pity south africans when they laugh at nigerian new weapons made in china. even america cannot defeat china today. weapons closely match, and getting closer in power and technology every new day.

korean war 1953, america faced china in combat, and ran away from chinese army, when yankee k.illed 100 chinese soldiers a fresh 200 will appear, america ran away from the battle front-line. i pity our south african friends who say numbers dont matter in war if they face mighty nigeria....go and ask america to tell you their chinese experience...urban/city warfare is a game of men/numbers.

china made J-20 stealth jet fighter the fear of china made weapons is the beginning of common sense

saengine: My mistake. It means the NAF has never, and will never conduct long distance operations outside the borders of Nigeria using their helicopters. And I don't means neighbouring countries. Even the U.S and U.K put their helicopters in heavy transport aircraft, and assemble on sight. And im guessing all Nigerian APV's are also driven to places like Mali? Not taken by air? Just asking.
let me joke a little....

fly south african air force 8 Gripen jets from pretoria to lagos too and lets see how they will not drop d.ead from the sky when fuel finish grin grin grin

well chief, nigerian alpha jets fought in liberian war. aircraft travel through friendly countries and re-fuel by stop-overs. if not, the navy ships them, NNS THUNDER and many other nigerian navy ships will be able to carry a squadron of our Mi-35 Hind helicopter gunships around the world.

few countries in the world have 'unlimited' air freight capability, even mighty France does NOT have it.

long distance war is not easy because you may need to cross over another country's airspace to reach your target/enemy. america and NATO used saudi arabia as base for gulf war, also they used Itay and Germany etc as airbase for Bosnia war.

no country can do and undo, we all need help from ally nations. cheers bro !

Even the U.S and U.K put their helicopters in heavy transport aircraft, and assemble on sight. And im guessing all Nigerian APV's are also driven to places like Mali? Not taken by air? Just asking.
let me joke a little....

fly south african air force 8 Gripen jets from pretoria to lagos too and lets see how they will not drop d.ead from the sky when fuel finish grin grin grin

well chief, nigerian alpha jets fought in liberian war. aircraft travel through friendly countries and re-fuel by stop-overs. if not, the navy ships them, NNS THUNDER and many other nigerian navy ships will be able to carry a squadron of our Mi-35 Hind helicopter gunships around the world.

few countries in the world have 'unlimited' air freight capability, even mighty France does NOT have it.

long distance war is not easy because you may need to cross over another country's airspace to reach your target/enemy. america and NATO used saudi arabia as base for gulf war, also they used Italy and Germany etc as airbase for Bosnia war.

no country can do and undo, we all need help from ally nations. cheers bro !

saengine: Back to my other question.....how will Nigerian OPV be able to defeat Frigates, only with a 72mm gun and 30mm cannon?
nigerian navy's 4 brand new stealth OPV's, 2 of them are the most dangerous warships in all africa, y.our nightmares have just started.

that topic will be treated another day...but you owe me school fees, 6 months overdue. can we negotiate ? i am single and searching...you have fine sister age 18 + ? i can waive your school fees, trade by barter grin

Henry120: West africa is the most un equal. Not a single west african country comes close to nigeria. North africa has some of the most modern armed forces in africa. With egypt, algeria and Morocco leading the pack. Uganda is steadily building her military. Equatorial guinea, though small, is building quite a sizeable navy.

To be honest, africa needs to develop strong military institutions, built on the tenets of democracy and not a bunch of coup plotters.

Every continent/region has a major military nation or 2 or more

North america = united states
Europe. = russia/germany/ UK/ france
Asia. = china, india, japan, pakistan south korea
Middle east. = iran, saudi arabia( even though in the case of saudi arabia, most of their personnel are a bunch of cowards, they still got state of the art equipment)

South america. = brazil

Africa = none, zilch, zero, huh

we need to build militaries, encourage partnerships with african local defence industries. So as to be able to compete with the rest of the world, instead of spying on each other all the time, like nigeria and south africa do.
Big bros, i hail o !

lets add north korea to this, nuclear missile power, ranked in world top 15. Asia. = china, india, japan, pakistan south korea ,

lets add egypt to this, 240 F-16 jets and almost 30,000 Tanks/APC/IFV/Artillery, ranked in world top 15. Africa = none, zilch, zero, huh

lets upgrade the level of saudi arabia, it is extremely well armed, 350 Tornado jets, F-15 jets, Eurofighter Typhoon jets.

lets add laughter to this grin grin. we need to build militaries, instead of spying on each other all the time, like nigeria and south africa do.

souldust: what part of Africa can we say is a bit more balanced militarily i.e, no one is clear superior? Is it north, south, east, west or central Africa?
north africa is the strongest region : sudan, morocco, algeria, egypt.

west africa : nigeria

east africa : ethiopia , eritrea, uganda

central africa : none

southern africa : angola, south africa

that is africa's top ten military powers in reality. kenya, tanzania, zimbabwe, ghana, libya, all struggle for next positions.

Fynline: At last the tread has come back to life
yoruba proverb says :

a leper cannot handle and milk a cow because he has no fingers, but he can waste a bucket full of other people's cow milk by dipping his diseased fingers into it so nobody can drink ! grin
