Nigerians always going into a frenzy when ever they hear a new scandal.
This panama scandal mostly affects only politicians because of questionable sources of funds, and in some countries as citizens you are to declare all your income for taxation no matter where the money is invested. But the so called tax havens are so secretive that the home country government can't get information or correct information on the amount of money owned by an individual or company, that is what they are talking about.

Do you have such laws in Nigeria?

There are British and American workers in Nigeria whose salaries are taxed in their home countries, is it applicable to Nigerians working abroad?

On a more serious note...we do not know what the Nigerian law says about offshore companies. It may become difficult to prosecute UNLESS...we can prove that said offshore companies were

1.Warehousing looted money

2.Warehousing money that should have been declared to the Govt for taxation purposes.

Inasmuch as I want to see corrupt people in jail.....we should tread carefully. Unless we can prove that public official A had put looted funds with Mossack Fonseca....it may be difficult to prove a case.

for, example in Philippines the government taxes all forex inflows into the country, but it is not the same in Nigeria. People just walk into the bank and collect their money, except for the bank charges which most times are paid at point of transfer.

This is an internationally accepted way of reflating an economy without causing inflation. This method ties money to the creation of new value ( roads, bridges, sewage systems, power, water provision etc). The method Nigeria has used through independence is " trickle down" economics by which a few people receive massive sums of money in the HOPE that it will get to the base of the pyramid. This method on the other hand seeks firstly to provide income to the people at the base of the pyramid while financing infrastructure for business. Secondly the amounts being given to these beneficiaries will have a multiplier on other businesses such as food sellers, agriculture production, and other citizens. Thirdly the amounts received by these people in the initial chain is unlikely to become either dollarized or to experience Capital flight outside Nigeria

Some people believe this government has no economic policy and they are wrong. Here is the policy:
1. Reject devaluation of the naira. Devaluation only works for exporting countries not import driven economies like Nigeria
2. Diversify the economy through points 3 and 4 below.
3. Create incentive for local products by defending certain local industries using high import tariffs and low official dollar allocation
4. Stimulate the local economy through intervention funds specially calibrated for the 100m plus Nigerians at the base of the pyramid
5. Reduce deficit through the effective mobilization of cash ( taxes i.e. stamp duty, single government account)
Of course 1-4 disfavor importation and trading which is essentially what goes on in Nigeria. Nigeria is basically an international outpost for the world's goods. This has really hurt Nigeria. The change in policy will hurt a lot of people in the short term. But in the long term creativity and innovation will create new sustainable jobs that profit from rather than being victims of international trade.

The economy is in critical shape and the government has placed a bet on the Nigerian people, not a few oligarchs. [b]Everyone between 21-35 has to stop thinking job and start thinking enterprise. [/b]That's where the opportunities are and believe me with a strong business model, partnerships to scale, a well defined customer segment, this age group can take on the world ( IF they stop slavishly following celebrity life and take responsibility for their own lives instead if moaning and doing nothing)

My company funds start ups and I can tell you it's easier to fund in Ghana or East Africa because most young people here either lack fundamental skills or are not creative enough in a positive sense.

I continue to believe though - we've had some successes - and they have been stellar. Avoiding discouragement and a victim mentality is the first step. Afghanistan still makes the world's most expensive carpets but they've been at war for the last forty odd years. It's not the circumstances but the heart and mind.

So you want people who cannot raise capital to think enterprise while those with enough funds/cash get the government jobs.

Recently, someone here on Nairaland posted a thread the other day lamenting on how teachers he hired to write the JAMB exams for him failed the exam. LOL!!. A teacher failing his own subject!!. What else do we need to know education in Africa is a big joke?.

This's why we need to revert back to our natural way of learning, i.e studying in our native languages. Asians in the eighties discovered the problem with western education and they made a U-turn, took their destiny in their own hands, and reverted back to their natural way of learning. And since Malaysians, Indonesians, Thai, e.t.c made this decision their fortunes changed, and they sped fast towards development leaving us behind.

Western education isn't made for your own good. It was created at the late 1800 century when colonial powers were under pressure from the African people to leave Africa. But, before leaving, they figured out that if they left us without teaching us their languages they'll not have any means of exploiting us in absentia. Therefore, they made sure they installed their model of education all over Africa, forcing the African people and making it a point for every African school to adopt English or French as a compulsory subject in schools (Rome previously used this as a strategy for destroying culture during their hay days in Europe). When the language of a people is destroyed, their culture will also be destroyed over some hundreds or thousands of years. Get it?. Meaning that our native languages would go into extinction over a hundred or thousands years, and we'll practically become foreigners in our land!!. This way they'll constantly create brainwashed Euro-Afro hybrid elites (neither European nor African in mindset) who act as a conduit for further exploitation of Africa. This's like training a puppy (dog) to behave exactly how you want it to behave.

Ultimately, what western education brings to a people are; first: destruction of language, second: destruction of culture, third: intellectual slavery, fourth: poverty.

The only way we can have true education and development in Africa is to abandon western education and create our own model of education. Same way we abandoned Hollywood movies in the early 90's and created our own movie industry (Nollywood). Yes, we can!!. By the way, the ''wood'' in Nollywood itself is a signature of intellectual slavery, a product of western education.

I grew up researching this topic (pedagogy) without even realizing what I was doing, cause I was born in a library. I've spent years researching this stuff, and literally shed tears the day I realized I' am an educated fool. Then, I began to debrainwash myself.

If I have my way and get a record label that believe in my type of music, I'll change the way education happen in Africa.
