judiciarypalava: This native doctors, sorry mediocre doctors, in fact doctors in this forum must be from the sun. Playing politics will not take you guys any where, the earlier you guys accept that you are drastically loosing the battle and think of how to amend your mistakes in time the better.
Edo NMA protesting to shut down private hospitals is the height of it. You guys are gradually incurring the anger of the masses. May be the arrogant nature that most of you guys exhibit in the cause of your job in most of the government hospital will not allow a fair judgment.
For your information, the masses are getting use to the situation so you guys should not do additional funny thing that would shift the fight from Fed to the public. A word is enough for the wise.
Don't mind the useless doctors who are even demanding FG pay compensation to the dead doctor working in a private clinic and earning her pay. grin grin grin
So anytime people die from accidents due to driver over speeding FG should pay. grin grin grin
If people fail exams, FG should pay. grin grin grin

Not likely, because

Chinese government allow and indirectly encourage their citizens to infringe on people's copyright and patents. Whatever grows the economy (Excluding hard drugs, nacotics) without harming Chinese citizens, no wahala, carry go.

Morotov1: I am quoting your post for posterity before the content is changed.
Coming to a public forum like nairaland to unknowingly acknowledge the allegation of fellow Nigerians that consultants don't come to work is really something to be marvel at . If working 3 out of 5 working days isn't lazying about then I wonder what is.
No matter how exhausted you are, you're duty bound to perform in your line of duty or resign. The bankers and all those that works in private firms will attest to this but the chase is different in government owned firms.
Being a consultant equivalent of attending physicians in US entails a lot of responsibilities and less luxury time for self and family.
God bless you my brother. cool cool cool

bushdoc9919: As I told you.....if you want a well equipped hospital with good facilities....well, first most of the facilties needed are made abroad. So,importing them will cost money. Next, we have to maintain the facilities. That costs money.Thirdly, because of no light and no water...we have to provide water and light. That costs money (In India....light and water is stable....at least in the big cities because....they have nuclear power. ). Then you have to pay the staff....not just the docs...well. That costs money.

For me....the problem is that we do not have adequate water and power supply....and that eats up most of the running costs of many a hospital. Then....we have to,as I said earlier....import things like theater equipment, x-ray machines, EKG's,dialysis machines, etc.(If Nigeria was an industrial economy....we would be manufacturing these things.). Finally, repairs when they break down. Because we have a scarcity of good technicians (thanks to the fact that everybody thinks that technical school is for dull people)...we have to import techies from outside...and that costs money.

And guess who will be paying for all that (Hint-it isn't the government).

Despite that...we do have some good world class private hospitals (Ekocorp, Cedarcrest, Diff,Nisa). But....if we want more of them....we have to get the light and power back on line. We have to industrialize....so that we can manufacture medical equipment at home. We have to train more master technicians. We have to increase the number of docs, nurses, lab technicians, etc. And we need a truly National Health Insurance scheme....not a scheme for just salaried workers.

And you Nigerians have to be prepared to pay out of pocket costs that would be much higher than what you pay for 'govt hospitals'.
OK lets go private hospitals, since th government can't fund the govt hospitals. grin grin grin

Nitel already had towers in all major cities and LGA in Nigeria, all networked through microwave was given free license to operate GSM services while others paid million of dollars for the licences yet they couldn't compete with the private telcos. Today they have gone into oblivion.

Same thing is happening to Nipost, others are making a killing Nipost with offices in all major towns and cities cant compete just becuase the employees think they are next thing to God in Nigeria.

The government should privatize the hospitals angry angry angry

You fight for bad conditions in government hospitals whereas some private hospitals/clinics are nothing to write home about. AFter running test and doing most of the diagnosis in the government hospitals then patients are referred to the private hospitals/clinics angry angry angry

Its a good thing I don't go close to hospital. grin grin grin

This action will only affect people who have been brainwashed to think the living depend on the hospital. wink wink wink

Dreambeat: It would be too petty of me to trade insults with you because I consider it infra dig. Read about how much money Nigerians contribute to the India economy annually through medical tourism for ailments that could easily be managed in this country. Money that could be invested in our economy and increase employment. Just put the necessary facilities in place, that is all we ask of the government.

oluks05: AUGUST 16, 2014 BY JESUSEGUN ALAGBE

The Ministry of Health’s spokesperson, Dan Nwomeh, said Nigeria needs to sign the proposed National Health Bill
into law before organ trade transactions get out of hand. He clamoured for the prompt signing of the bill into law for
the regulation of organ transplant in the country.
He said, “We hear rumours about the trade, but the truth of the matter is that we have a big problem at hand, and this
is because there is no law regulating organ transplant in Nigeria. There is no law at all now, and what can the
Ministry of Health do when there is no law?
“That is why we have been canvassing for the signing of the National Health Bill. If the bill is signed into law,
important health issues like organ transplant and fertility medicine will be regulated. It will not be done in the secret.
“But while we are waiting for the National Health Bill to be signed into law, everything depends on the practitioners to
do the proper thing. You cannot say someone who is into the organ trafficking business has committed an offence
since there is no law yet that is against or regulating it.”
Nwomeh added that the Ministry of Health would continue to canvass for the signing of the National Health Bill into
law.
He said, “The health minister and the Ministry of Health will continue to push forward until this particular bill is
signed into law. Until such happens, there are bound to be shady businesses like that.”
The Vice-President of the Commonwealth Medical Association and former President of the Nigerian Medical
Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele, corroborated the comment of the health ministry.
He said that the bill takes into account provisions for the regulation of organ transplant and fertility medicine in the
country. He said if the bill is not signed, the perpetrators would continue to have a field day.
Enabulele said, “Right now, organ trade is commoner outside the country, especially in India, and so it is not
unexpected that the business there is booming due to the fact that people from other countries go there to do it.
“It is definitely illegal and a criminal act, but in the absence of regulation, no one can be blamed. People are doing
many things underground and even if you apprehend them, under what law are you going to charge them? What
penalties will be levied on them?
“In terms of the robustness of the trade in Nigeria, I think one is certainly not very much aware of how it is, but I
know that the usual destination point is India because that is where all sorts of trafficking take place.
“This is one of the reasons that when I was the president of the Nigerian Medical Association, I actively supported the
passage of the National Health Bill because it has the provisions for the regulation of organ transaction, including the
kidney, to make sure there are rules and strict adherence to the guidelines for organ transactions, unlike having an
unregulated market where anything happens.
“It is even now important that there is acceleration in terms of getting the President’s assent to harmonise the
National Health Bill to prevent the burgeoning of illegal organ transactions. If it is happening, it is the sign that there
needs to be some sort of regulation.
“If the guidelines are not there, there will be an astronomical increase in criminal activities in organ transplant due to
the level of poverty. Many unwilling donors will end up in the hands of fraudsters. If people must donate their organs,
then it must be according to certain guidelines.
“Normally, organs are not what to be donated for a fee, it should be voluntary out of empathy for a victim (either a
relative or friend) just like blood donation. It should be out of one’s empathic disposition.
“Guidelines must be put in place to prevent extortions like this whether they are doing it because of poverty or not. A
framework must be put in place to regulate organ transplant in the country through the signing of the health bill.”
Enabulele emphasised that there was nothing wrong in donating human organs, but that it should be done voluntarily
and freely under the regulation of the law.

As soon as Akpos (now matthew) went home, he took a beer in the fridge, dipped it into the water 3 times.
Matthew: You are now a new creation. Your old name is gone. Your new name is 'Orange.'
