fittty: Sorry for the denial. * You shouldn't have said your friend recommended the school, *You also didn't give concrete reasons for studying Information Systems, *You should have taken at least one test even if the school didn't request for it *You being an investment adviser at a real estate firm doesn't have much relation to IT, *Your reasons for coming back wasn't strong enough as you were still gonna take on the same job for 3years which is kinda irrelevant to your intended course

Just give it another try and yes there are tons of schools that don't require tuition deposit before admission.
Yeah, I understand you buddy. Thank you for the tip and I'll keep it in mind next time.

Yvete: awww sorry. Forget about your interview for now and focus on Question 1. Write GRE, apply to a reputable school, prepare and the visa is yours.
Yeah thanks, that's the plan.

dr.slip:
Yea i remember that woman in booth 8 with blue eyes.
Bruva your responses are too generalized. Make it more specific and these are my simple rules for getting the visa.
1. Please take GRE and TOEFL. TOEFL is not so important but if you have the money do it.
2 Apply to programs that relates to your undergraduate program or @ least it should relate to your current work.
Search aggressively for schools and apply to @ least 3 using your GPA, GRE and TOEFL to gauge your chances of admission.
Prepare hard for the interview. When i mean prepare hard i mean read all the questions because in all honesty Nairaland is expo. The questions the VO will ask will not change. Its the same question evryday. Read about your course, know it inside out, know the faculty members just read evrytin readable so if the VO tries to deviate you are flexible enough to answer the questions.
Final and most importantly. .Pray harder than you have prepared for the interview. I can say this with so much confidence. It worked for 3 pple on this thread. Ronald2g1 gave me the code..i used it worked like magic. Then my broda ronakoks used it and it worked.
In summary: Prepare hard and pray harder that's the key to F-1
I'll take GRE and TOEFL right away, no doubt about that. If I'll apply for a program related to my undergraduate program, it will be GIS (Geography Information System) otherwise Info Tech remains my area of passion. I wont be at the real estate firm where I work forever you know?
I'll work more on studying for the interview and how to make my answers less generalized.
I agree with you 100% that Nairaland goes a long way to help.
Do you know where I can register for the GRE and TOEFL in Abuja and the cost?

dmoney104: @@airroseice, sori 4 nt getting your visa , dnt gve up keep try ing man, pls send me ur number I will be going 4 my interview soon @ lagos d same school(viu) I need som little help 4rm u....

Hey Guys,

I'm back again ... Like iForgot my Blackberry charger ... Jokes aside, my VISA was denied cry
I'll try to narrate my ordeal if I'm able to recollect details from ill-fated day.
It was a sunny Thursday morning in Abuja, woke up early and felt really energized (Me Mah had prayed for me and I did my push-ups, Sit-ups and what-not)
So I arrived the embassy a tad late... say 15 minutes late and I met this crowd outside, I took a seat and followed the line movement.
Fast forward to my experience with the V.O ... before I proceed I must say that I envy y'all that are able to remember the conversation with the V.O. because it's a challenge for me ... probably because I didn't get the Visa grin
Anyway, I'll never forget her cold-blue-pretty eyes in a Hurry... the V.O @ Windows 8 in the Abuja Consulate.
What I remember:

V.O: Good afternoon, Please pass your documents.
Me: Good afternoon - how are you? - Passed my documents.
V.O: I'm fine - typing stuffs into her computer.
....
V.O: What did you study for Undergraduate?
Me: Regional Planning and Geography.
V.O: How did you hear about this school?
Me: A Friend graduated from the school and recommended it.
V.O: Why Information Systems?
Me: Information Technology has always been my area of interested and my passion for it is concentrated.
V.O: What's your GRE Score?
Me: I didn't take the test because V.I.U. said I'll take a test upon my arrival.
V.O: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: V.I.U and University of Idaho (iLied here because I only applied to VIU)
V.O: Did you hear back from the other school?
Me: No I did not. (I think I messed up here)
V.O: Why did you finally decide to study information systems at V.I.U
Me: *Gave her the info-system speech*
V.O: Why did you decided to study at V.I.U over the other school?
Me: I did my research and checked out their campus and facilities, the academic and social environment, value for money and the tech advancement in the USA.
V.O: What do you do for work?
Me: I'm an investment adviser at a real estate firm.
V.O: What are you going to do after your study?
Me: I'm going to return and work for my current employer for at least 3 years but my long range goal is to set up my own I.T. firm to provide solution that bridges businesses and computer science.

I'll save you from this pathetic convo, she said she couldn't issue me the VISA at this time. I asked what the problem was but she didn't give me any specific reason. I asked how soon I could re-apply and she said to "Wait a while". I was really cordial and had all my documents ready. So tell me what you think. Also the Chat with the V.O. didn't exactly happened in that sequence.

I have a couple of questions though.

1. Can you guys please recommend an inexpensive school with good reputation in the USA that I can apply to for Masters in I.T related course?
2. Is it possible for any school to request tuition (maybe part payment) upfront and consequently send my name to the embassy for easy interview?
3. If yes to Q2, Can you please list any?

I'm going to get my Masters in I.T. and so help me God it will be in the USA; the funds is available and I have a lot of reasons to come back to Nigeria (Trust Me). I am a fighter and I don't give up easily. I like to think that I made a mistake and it can be fixed. It's funny how I handled the rejection self. Hehehe.

Please let me know your thoughts on my case before I start with my research.

With respect,
Eros.

Yvete: Lol....You sound intelligent and i think you'll interview well. People are advised to smile because it hides nervousness though an excessively smiley face may exude phoniness. Don't fret if you naturally smile, chuckle or stutter. The interview is so short so don't let nervousness get in the way. Your main goal is to overcome any presumption of immigrant intent by the VO.

The harm in trying without GRE is that test report is the easiest way to weed out 'presumably unqualified students' from an excessive number of visa applicants at the Embassy. Colleges do this too so if you are going to a well reputed college, intentions are clear. But if you are going to an institution no one has heard of, and which has not asked you to take any tests, then that makes the VO suspicious. LOR and GRE serve different purposes. Even with a US Bachelors, GRE, LOR and/or Interview are required so its reasonable for a VO to question why an Intl. Student is exempt. They might not ask for it, but go with a professional resume that relate to CIS (highlight entry-level skills) stapled behind a waiver from the college with other justifiable reasons.

Questions relating to your undergrad degree may not come up. If it does, GIS is good enough for an answer. Just create reasons why its beneficial in Nigeria and how it helps your future career goals. Come back with a testimony! grin
@Yvete Thank a lot for your contributions, I'm not quite sure of the college's (Virginia International Uni) reputation globally or out there in the U.S. but I'll be sure to add my resume to the GRE waiver from the school and so help me God I shall come back with a positive testimony on Thursday. God bless you ma'am.

Snazzygirl: @ Eros, although no one is 100% sure whether GrE/Toefl increase/decrease chances of getting F1 visa, it is safe to write one of the tests since it potrays one as a serious student cz most schools require @ least one type of standardisd test. Since ur interview date is close, try and get gre/toefl waiver from ur school so u can present it @ d embassy. Being nervous is a normal thing during interviews, u jst av to control urself. It's ok to smile but don't laugh when nothing is funny.Concerning d relationship between ur UG course and ur PG, u r in d best position to merge dem o. U can say geographic information sysytems is ur choice course and d information systems program at ur university allows u to take courses that will give u indept knowledge of geographic information systems which will make u a better candidate for GIS analyst positions and further studies on doctorate level. Saying this point might lead to dis question ..."Why didn't u apply to schools that offer geograhic information systems" .....lemme think of more answers grin
I thank you @Snazzygirl, I've sent a request to the school (Virginia Internation University) for a GRE waiver. I hope to hear back from them before the day ends. Your tips will not be forgotten you bet. I'll control the nervousness. God bless you.

First bold: That has big effect on your chance. Few escape it by chance but many didn't.
Second bold: My passport was clean without any visa, blemish-less and shinning too, also many other people that got their visas the very first time.
Third bold: You remind me of one of my best Joe song - Stutter Please, you have to control being tensed that could led to S...st...stu...stutt.......ering. Joe said the girl was lying even by stuttering.
Fourth bold: People said IT field is easy to cross to. If you look at it this way, many things are centralize on IT these days. You can relate what you called not much in geography and regional planning(Geographic Information System) to your crave for IT, magnify it, polish it well in the presence of the VO. Believe me, you are the only one that knows it's small part of geography but no one else, your brain is needed in US and that starts from their embassy. You are a graduate student, US wants people like you of good talent who when integrated into their system, more value is added to their country.

Fourth bold: Best of Luck to you all
Many thanks to you @imperiouxx I really appreciate this, I'll take your advise into consideration. I hope to come back with a testimony as my interview has been scheduled for Thursday the 13th.

Hello Fellow Nairalanders,

*sigh* I've followed the thread (Part 1 - 3) and have done a couple of researches on F1 Interview Tips and will like to outline my case.
I applied and got accepted (for the August semester) into a school in Virginia but I had to defer to the Spring of January because of work.
I got my new i-20 for the spring 2013 semester and have applied for my interview date.
I applied for an expedited date and was told that the emergency calendar will be opened for me on Monday the 10th, that's when I'll know my specific interview date.

My question however is that the university does not require GRE or TOEFEL and I didn't bother to write these exams - do you think this will reduce my chances?
Furthermore, I have never been out of the country before and my passport is fresh out of the box. Unstamped and BLANK.
I stutter when I'm tensed - my friends think I'm a confident persoon, I have confidence in myself however. *embarassed*
I studied geography and regional planning and graduated in 2009 (Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma)
Served (NYSC) in Abuja from 2010 - 2011; Got a Job @ a real estate firm (in Abuja) in Feb 2012 and want to proceed to get my MS in Information System.
How does I.S. relate to my undergraduate degree? Not much besides GIS (Geographic Information System) which I'm a huge fan of because of the computer application.
Generally I am sucker for computers and I.T. My passion for it is concentrated. Enough ranting...

Please, I could use all the advise I can get besides the "wear a genuine smile, eye contact and being concise" tips.
I understand I have to be there at least an hour before.
I'm not the best religious person there is ...
*LE SIGH* ... & oh one more thing, I smile too much. Like I laugh alot - what do you guys think?

Please Advise,
Eros.
CrimeRe: Top 10 No-go-places For Criminals In Lagos by airroseice(m): 10:38am On Nov 28, 2012
Eko Atlantic*:
By EMMANUEL UDOM

Criminals in Lagos, south-west Nigeria are reckless, restive and desperate. They want to reap where they did not sow, even as the police and other security agents are working round the clock to ensure that the former capital of Nigeria is crime free these ember months.

In the last couple of weeks, our reporter has been on under-cover mission, looking at how prepared the police, SSS operatives and other security agents are for the Christmas and New Year celebrations in terms of security.

If you say, my dear readers that this is an alarming write-up, you are correct. But, if you think I am working for the police in Lagos, then you ate dead wrong.
Below are some of the top 15 no-go-places criminals should not ever contemplate going near or else trouble, shooting, injuries or death. Lagos state police commissioner, Manko Umar has put security strategies in place to ensure that Lagos is crime-free these celebrations months.
This does not however mean that the state will be free 100% from crime. Crimes and criminalities cannot be totally eradicated from any locality, state, nation or the entire globe. It could only be reduced and checkmated. This is the gospel truth the police and other security agents as well as discerning and observing minds know too well.

1 Banking Hall-Criminal who want to rob banks in Lagos should forget the idea or be prepared for a bloody gun duel with the police. Take it or leave it, since Manko became the commissioner of police in Lagos, the state has not recorded one successful operation, in which robbers loot banks.
Though these devils in human skins have attempted on some occasions to loot banks, they failed woefully. Check crime records as opposed to propaganda, rumors and speculations at the police public relations office in Ikeja, Lagos.

2 Markets- The popular and ever busy Gotangowa, Ipodo Yaba, Idi Araba, Tejuosho, Alaba international market, Ladipo spare-part market, seme market, Idumota market have been infiltrated by police officers and SSS operatives. Off course, this is an alarming write-up and wake-up calls for criminals. Go near any of these markets and you will be dead before the end of December this year. This is what my under-cover mission has revealed

3 Cyber- cafés –Public cyber-cafes have also been infiltrated by security agents. For those yahoo boys, they are been watched directly or indirectly by security agents. This is another potential place where criminals use.

4 Hotels/Guest houses-Hotels and guest houses are potential places where criminals meet to plan their robbery operations or share their loots after a successful robbery operations. The police and CCTV are watching you.

5 Drinking joints- This is another place where potential criminals meet to unwind relax and enjoy themselves after committing all sorts of criminal and other atrocities during the day. Some Nigerians love pleasure, parties, drinks and boasting. When they have taken some bottles of beer they talk carelessly. The person sitting next to your table may as well be an under-cover police officer or SSS operatives.
So, in your best interest as a criminal, repent from your evil ways or as Manko uses to say re-locate from Lagos or else…

6 Churches/Mosques-From catholic to Methodist, pencostal to Anglican, Baptist to the nearest mosque, police and SSS operatives in Lagos have been ordered to ensure that no Boko Haram fellows come near. I do not want to mention names here, but I do know that some churches, especially in Lagos are hiring private security guards, OPC members or police to protect them physically during Sunday services.

7 Eateries-security agents have also infiltrated eateries in various parts of Lagos. Each time you go to the nearest eateries around you, observe the people there carefully and you will see what I mean. Criminals must be dealt with the police are basically everywhere these embers months. Kudos to them.

8 Embassies- All the embassy in Lagos, from independent findings by our reporter is under a close 24-hour watch by internal security, the police and SSS operatives.

9 Uncompleted buildings- The Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Badagry, Epe, Egan, Igando, Alagbado as some of the places in Lagos with bushes and uncompleted buildings. There are also uncompleted buildings in Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Lekki, etc. Criminals also use these buildings to meet plan their operations or share their loots. The police is watching you

10 Traffics- I pity criminals who think they can rob people of their money handsets and other valuable personal items during go-slows and traffics along the
third mainland bridge, Lagos-Abeokuta expressway. There are CCTVs everywhere and there are also under-cover security agents along these routes. Again, I say repent criminals.

RomanceRe: How To Overcome The Pains Of Distance Relationships by airroseice(m): 11:28am On Sep 19, 2012
bizmogul: Are you in a distance relationship? Do you worry about calling it quits but you love this person and can't let go? Your survival in a distance relationship depends on how the relationship got start. For example I spent sometime together with my girlfriend in school before I graduated and we got seperated by distance. Distance relationships could be very painful and tiring but in order to sustain it you need to apply the following.

1. There must be genuine love: I love my girl so much, right from the outset and she loves me in return despite the fact am not rich this has been the core of our relationship. Each time we talk about the past and how memorable it was being together the memories keep us alive.

2. Trust: without trust distance relationship goes dead. Trust issues begin to come up when one party begins to act differently, like myself I erased my thoughts from ‎tinking my girl has someone else; I don't think about it no matter what, its not a perfect relationship but because we trust each other we keep going on and on.

3. Don't Listen To Friends: friends sure have a way of destroying distance relationships. I remember the times when I sit over a drink with a couple of friends, they make me feel like a loser, they make me feel like a complete idiot, asking questions like do you know what she is doing now? Maybe she is having fun with some other guy while you are here being the good guy. I almost fell for all that, it almost ruined my relationship but as I earlier said, trust is what keeps me going.

4. Regular communication: keep in touch at all times, say sweet things you will normally say to her, don't let her feel you are ever tired, with various communication gadgets blackberry, facebook, mobile phone, skype communication has been made easier.

5. Send a surprise gift from a distance: you know where she stays? Why not courier a package to her with a recent picture from you, a hand written note and some gift items. It helps.

6. Jerk off/self-service and get one of those intimacy toy(s).

I will stop for now, more updates coming soon.

Controversial much and Interesting... Now here's my own 2 cents. RELIGION itself is a SCAM.

People get too sentimental over religion. & the brash decisions people make in the name of RELIGION? *spits*

I'm not an Atheist, I do believe in God but my opinion of Holiness is that it lies in the heart and not by your religion.

Most of the so-called RELIGIOUS leaders are the worst and don’t be deceived when they act all holier than thou. The have questionable characters behind closed doors. I beg us all apply wisdom in all we do.

POLITICS is deep and you need a third eye to be able see beyond their propaganda. USE YOUR HEAD!

Do your thing and live your life, the West Insulted your prophet? I’m sorry, but doesn’t your religion teach forgiveness? and perhaps judgment on the last day? Why don’t you leave things in the hands of your creator? Remember he's GREAT and will fight your battles for you. No? *shrugs*

Go about living your life in peace and happiness and most importantly do the right thing. Why don't your track down that retarded Bacile dude and slice his balls? What did the Ambassador do to deserve what he got? He has a family you know? People don't think before they act.

I couldn’t be bothered if some retard insulted my religion, but GOD HELP YOU should you insult me or my family (Na there quarrel go come).
