Foreign AffairsDo The United States Have The Right To Attack Other Countries? by AjalaJ(op): 2:31pm On Jun 21, 2019
What gives America the right to invade foreign nations, and change their governments? Should this be allowed?

Dude, I thought we settled the question 2,400 years ago, during the Peloponnesian wars: “we shall not trouble you with specious pretenses … since you know as well as we do that right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must.”

According to Thucydides, that is what a certain Democratic Empire, Athens, told the citizens of another state in response to their refusal to support Athenian “interests” in the region. Shortly after, Athenian soldiers invaded Melos, massacred countless innocent men and sold their wives and children into slavery.

Your mistake here is the attention paid to post-hoc explanations which invoke imaginary “rights” to justify brutal invasions or subjugation of weaker peoples. America is strong. That’s the end of it.

And like all Empires, America is more than happy to crush anyone who challenges its power. And the goodies the position of strength affords those in power to keep citizens relatively satisfied. At least enough that they will not revolt. As always, there is no shortage of philosophers to justify the endeavor and politicians to sucker the public into supporting war.

It’s really quite simple. Politics is about power. In order to stay in power, one must make certain sacrifices. A war will do wonderful things to shore up the support of those you need to stay in power, whether they be private business interests or just a good old leech on the misguided patriotism of the masses. When an invasion can help the big guy remain in power, or otherwise promote his influence (or at least gives him good reason to think it will) we go to war. Sometimes, it doesn’t even blow up in our faces. At least not yet. Think about Germany, Japan and South-Korea. More often, it’s the same spectacle of immoral barbarity Empires have always engaged in. Iraq, the Gulf, Vietnam, Latin America and coming to a place near you: Iran.

Of course, when the big guy has no reason to think that a war will serve his power, we are principled isolationists. We can even stand by, refrain from the urge to spread Democracy and Freedom, as 800,000 people are slaughtered in the span of a few weeks.

Car Talk"Why Manual Cars Are Better Than Automatic Cars" by AjalaJ(op): 4:44pm On May 25, 2019
What are some benefits to having a manual transmission car?

They continue to be less expensive to purchase, where they are available.

Small cars, with small engines, perform better with a manual transmission.

Manual transmissions are easier to repair than a traditional automatic transmission.

The clutch provides an extra measure of control that makes a manual transmission more pleasurable to drive for many people.

A manual transmission car is less likely to be stolen in locales where most people do not learn to drive manual.

They are the most commonly available rental cars in many parts of the world. You’ll pay extra for an automatic in many places.

CultureThe Most Popular Useless Belief by AjalaJ(op): 1:19pm On May 13, 2019
What are the most popular false beliefs? Please specify which group(s) you're referring to.

The most popular false beliefs are going to be things that are widely accepted and only the most insensitive of skeptics would approach. I can't really do it without feeling like I'm taking a swing at a deadly hornet's nest with a stick, like some sort of horrible birthday party pinata mishap. I'll do it today, though.

-The World: The Fallacy of Faith
The world uses religion as a vehicle to spread lies in the name of a higher purpose. No religion is free from this corruption and control of information is a must. Faith is the denial of observation so that belief can be preserved. So, my number one on this list religion.

-My Region: The Muting of the Voice of the American South
The people here are of a majority belief that the American Civil War had only one reason, which is a fight over slavery. It's like saying that the American Revolution started over a 3% tax increase. The reality was that it was a fight against a strong federal government trying to tell them that they couldn't trade with Great Britain, as well as many other strict regulations. One of those happened to be slavery, which actually functioned much differently in the North than it did the South. Also, treatment of slaves was much worse in northern states and this was used as propaganda to say how bad the people of the South were for resisting the economic sanctions.

I didn't learn this in school. I had to study it on my own with help from some very smart, very socially progressive academics. I'm not supporting slavery by saying this, but revisionist history is in the works right now to take away the symbol of those who tried to throw off the yoke of militant centralization of our federal government that was occurring without representation. The "Rebel Battle-flag" is supposed to be a symbol of the pride of those who remember what happened so that we don't repeat it. Its use by fringe hate groups demeans it and has been fought over long and hard, but apparently not hard enough.

Now, suddenly, when we are facing an intensifying of federal power, our symbol of rebellion is coming under attack via propaganda and lobbying. The Confederate flag is not a symbol of hate. Anyone who says so has taken either the side of the bleating media sheep, or the side of the vicious wolves who once used it to predate on minorities decades ago and have a pitiful size and strength. Stop stirring up trouble by attacking the pride of the South. It's the last thing anyone needs and it is a distraction from the fact that we are entering another World War in the Middle East, one we really can't participate in.

PropertiesProblems With Real Estate by AjalaJ(op): 1:00pm On Apr 26, 2019
What are the disadvantages of owning a mansion?

There are some great answers here, I’ll tackle another angle. Maybe I’m old fashioned and conservative.

I’m a big fan of living beneath your means. A mansion is the antithesis of that, a peacock home with little utility. I strongly prefer a small, well-built and “cozy” environment to spend my time and raise my family.

I don’t see a mansion as a much better investment than a yacht, expensive to buy, maintain, and if you’re lucky you can sell for what you bought it for. I’m no real estate agent but my guess is there are much larger swings in luxury property values based on the economy.

Also, what do you actually do in a house? How far do you want to walk to get to the bedroom or bathroom, how many flights of stairs do you feel like traversing?

The expenses are obvious, every square foot is that much more to clean, maintain, put a roof on, and provide HVAC for. AND pay taxes on smiley

In disclosure, I live in a 1470 square foot ranch with a partially finished basement, so about 2000 square feet of living space with my wife, 2 kids, 2 cats, dog and parrot and I never feel like we’re lacking for room.

My favorite saying “The richest man alive is the one who realizes he has enough”. Really sings to me!

CelebritiesSaheed Osupa - King Of Kings? by AjalaJ(op): 1:49pm On Apr 04, 2019
Saheed Osupa is rating himself or is allowing himself to be rated more than he is.

I wrote about this in the past, telling all who care, abut his limitations.

Once again, I can’t deny his success and talent. But… He’s not the best musician in Nigeria (not to mention the whole world).

He cannot sing all the genres of music that are available across the world. How many languages does he even understand? Can he gather a large crow in Chile? Why call himself King of music?

He’s not the most popular either. His voice is not the best. He’s not the richest musician, even in Nigeria.

If Pasuma is taunting him by giving himself titles like. Ijaya, Oganla, Oga Oba, Gaozu Zaman, etc, Osupa should not be giving or allowed himself to be given titles that can only be attributed to God.

I know he and his followers tend to adopt titles that counter Pasuma’s titles. But why did he call himself or someone called him “King of Kings?”

That title is too much. God Almighty is the King of kings. And he’s a jealous God. When someone is rating himself more than he really is, that’s a kind of psychological issue. .

We’re all dust and ashes. There’s nothing we become now, that someone in the past or somewhere has not become better than that.

I rest my case.

TravelThese Are The Countries That Don’t Have Airlines by AjalaJ(op): 4:06am On Mar 21, 2019
Which countries don't have an airline?

There are currently 9 sovereign countries without an airline.

Andorra - There are no airports in Andorra, so there are no airlines based there.

Barbados - there used to be 3 airlines based in Barbados: Carib Express, REDjet, and Trans Island Air. However, they’ve all ceased operations, with the most recent being startup airline REDjet ceasing on 2012. However, there are still 14 foreign airlines flying from Canada, America, the UK, Germany, Panama, and many Caribbean countries to Barbados via Grantley Adams International Airport.

Liechtenstein - There are no airports in Liechtenstein, so there are no airlines based there.
Micronesia - There used to be an airline named Air Micronesia (later known as Continental Micronesia) based there, which was a subsidiary of Continental Airlines. However, after the United-Continental merger, United Airlines took over all Continental Micronesia operations on 2010. There are 4 international airports in Micronesia. They are in Chuuk, Kosrae, Yap, and Pohnpei. Air Niugini, United Airlines, and Nauru Airlines have services to Micronesia from Papua New Guinea, Marshall Islands, Hawaii, Guam, and Nauru. They also operate domestic flights within Micronesia en route to their base country.

Guinea-Bissau - Guinea-Bissau used to have a national airline called Air Bissau, but they ceased operations in 1998. However, ASKY Airlines, euroAtlantic Airways, Royal Air Maroc, TAP Air Portugal, and Transair operate flights from Senegal, Togo, Portugal, Cape Verde, and Morocco to Osvaldo Vieira International Airport, the only airport with commercial flights in Guinea-Bissau.

Liberia - There used to be an airline based in Liberia named Air Liberia. However, they have ceased operations since 1990. However, 6 foreign African airlines and 2 European airlines (KLM and Brussels Airlines) operate flights from Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Belgium, Sierra Leone, Kenya, Netherlands, and Morocco to Roberts International Airport, the only airport with commercial flights in Liberia.

San Marino - There are no airports in San Marino, so there are no airlines based there.

Tuvalu - There has never been an airline based in Tuvalu. However, Fiji Airways operate flights from Nadi and Suva in Fiji to Funafuti International Airport, the only airport in Tuvalu.

Vatican City - There are no airports in Vatican City, so there are no airlines based there.

Despite Monaco not having any airports, they have two airlines based in their country: Monacair and Heli Air Monaco. This is because they have a heliport, and Monacair and Heli Air Moncao operate helicopter services from Monaco to nearby French cities.
