FamilyRe: My Younger Sister Disrespects Me Alot - Help A First Born. by ajayiopy: 3:25pm On May 24, 2019
firstbornson:
Haven't done this before, but I want to know your honest, experienced and well thought out opinions. I'm really depressed but I won't take Snipper (that devil is a liar). If you don't have anything serious and reasonable to say, please, just read comments (I know as e dey be for here, sometimes).

Its quite a long read. Apologies for any grammatical or typographical error encountered.

Here is my story.

My younger sister who is staying with me disrespects me alot, and she doesn't take my advice. My parents stay very far away and I feel responsible for her. It frustrates me whenever I tell her something and she will wait to do it at her own time or not do it at all. She even sometimes abuses me indirectly.

She is 19, came to stay with me last year November, for a Predegree program, after staying at home for two years without admission. After the first semester of her program, her result was released and it was very disappointing. She made 51% in only one course of four courses, while others are below that. To be honest, I felt I failed in my responsibilities of giving her the right counsel, motivating her, and all that. All she does is press her phone all night long, that's if she isn't watching a movie with her phone. She'll sleep and wake up the next morning by 8 or 9am.

Recently, there's this guy who happens to be my late landlord's first son in the compound where we stay that she has been spending too much time with in dark corners and I can tell in my gut that he's up to no good. He doesn't go to work, school, church, nowhere. He just seats at home all day, smoking weed and any other smokable substance he can lay his hands on. Sometimes, his friends come around and they smoke and play PES 2011 on a laptop. Lest I forget, he's also a cultist. He has tried on several occasions to make me a yahoo boy, but I had to consciously refuse.

My apologies for the long read.

About a week ago, this guy asked her to cook indomie for him, and she did, using our gas, without telling me. This got me really up set. I had to take several deep breaths. I calmed down and allowed her finish. After she was done, I asked her to seat down and we started talking. While we were talking, she started responding rudely to me.

This made me hit her for the first time in 19 years (I hate hitting them). To my utmost surprise, she hit me back. That singular act made her receive a very hard beating that she sustained lots of injuries. She immediately called home and my parents where now shouting at me on phone. My dad came the next day and said lots of things. My mom said lots of things on phone which just piss me off the more, called me all sought of names. Said I shouldn't allow the devil that is controlling take me close to my sister.

Right now, I hate all of them. My dad, mum, and sister. If I was financially buoyant enough, I would have moved out of this house. I feel really depressed, being having nightmares and I so much hate the fact that am still living here.

By the way, am male, 24, studying Biochemistry, should have finished my first degree last year but I'm having an extra year (3 spill over courses).

How do I move from here? Advice me.

PoliticsRe: Hakeem Bamgbola: Nigerians Will Elect Tinubu As President In 2023 by ajayiopy: 9:58am On May 24, 2019
nairavsdollars:
Hon Hakeem Bamgbola is the Vice Chairman Lagos Central Senatorial District of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In this interview with TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI, the former State Secretary of the party speaks on developments in Lagos State and other issues of national interests. Excerpts:

The governor- elect of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu will be sworn-in in few days’ time. What are your expectations from him?

The expectations from our party members and Lagosians as a whole is that we want developments that will take the economy of Lagos state to the next level. We all know that it is the third largest economy in Africa. I believe that with the coming on board of Sanwo-Olu, Lagos might attain the top spot in the economy of Africa. There are lots of expectations in all sectors because what I consider as priority may not be the thing that matters to you. However everybody wants a state that is secured, cleaner and economically viable. I know that Sanwo-Olu will deliver on all the promises he has made. I will appeal to Lagosians to give him their cooperation so that he can perform to the expectations of all.

Governor Nasir El- Rufai of Kaduna recently came to Lagos and said there is need to retire political godfathers in Lagos. What is your take on that?

I don’t know how many godfathers he has retired in Kaduna because he never mentioned their names. He only said that he has retired all the godfathers in Kaduna state. We know that Lagos is a peculiar state and we have the leadership that guides us which has been there for us for a long time. I will only say El- Rufai is playing to the gallery. He can’t do anything about the leadership in Lagos state and we still believe in the leadership of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as our father and leader in APC, who, as governor from 1999 to 2007 laid the foundation for the Lagos of today.

Why do you think it has been difficult for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to win the governorship election in Lagos since 1999?

It is because of the leadership of Asiwaju Tinubu. He is leader that embraces everyone. He is a man with a large heart. No matter your gravity of sin, when you are remorseful and you come back to him, he forgives easily and he will even give you a greater role to play in the party. I can cite several examples in the past and present to back up this. In fact, some of our members who angrily decamped to PDP, having realised that they are in political wilderness in PDP, they came back to APC and today, they are still playing key roles in the party. Also, he doesn’t take unilateral decision. If there are serious issues in the party that needs to be addressed, Asiwaju will table it before the Governors Advisory Council (GAC). He is also accessible to everybody, irrespective of your position in the party. He is a leader who is full of empathy and will inconvenience himself to make others comfortable. That is one of the things that distinguish Asiwaju Tinubu from other leaders in the country. That is why we are like a united family in APC and we have always recorded resounding victories in the governorship and other elections conducted from 1999 till date.

What are your expectations from President Buhari as he will also begin his second term in few days’ time?

My appeal to the President is that we need to do more. He did well in his first term and that is why appreciate Nigerians renewed his mandate but he can still do more. I am glad the theme of his second term is ‘Next Level’ whereby he has promised to consolidate on the gains recorded in his first term. Also, he needs to improve on the economy. If we are sincere, the economy is not that stable for now. On his cabinet, those he will be bringing on board now must be people of vision who believe in his agenda and are ready to make sacrifices to ensure all the goals are met.

There are rumours that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu might contest the presidential election in 2023. Do you think he has what it takes to govern the country?

Like you said, it is still speculations but the general belief among Nigerians is that based on his records in Lagos State, if we can have someone like Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as President, Nigeria will benefit a lot from his leadership. People know him as visionary leader, a highly detribalised Nigerian who has a wide network across the country. They also know that he is a leader who has a knack for identifying talents and also believes in grooming new set of leaders many of whom are holding key positions in the country today. We are hopeful that in 2023, the presidency will be zoned to the South- West and if he indicates interest in contesting, I am hopeful that all over the country, Nigerians will troop out to elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu as president of this country.

PoliticsRe: What I Want To Achieve In My First 100 Days As Lagos Governor- Sanwo-olu by ajayiopy: 7:03am On May 24, 2019
nairavsdollars:
By Temidayo Akinsuyi

Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State Governor-elect, in this interactions with select journalists in Lagos speaks on his plans for Lagosians and what he intends to achieve in his first 100 days in office. TEMIDAYO AKINSUYI brings the excerpts:

By May 29, it will be 20 years of democracy in Nigeria. Looking at Lagos in the last 20 years under the progressives, do you think we have fared well?

I honestly want to agree that it’s been worth it for us as progressives. More importantly, it’s been worth it for Lagosians. If we want to be fair, this is not the Lagos we had 20 years ago. Lagos was not the 5th largest economy in Africa 20 years ago. Lagos didn’t have a lot of things that we have now 20 years ago in infrastructure, health, education. Of course, we can also say that Lagos didn’t have this many traffic and refuse 20 years ago. So, what we see is that Lagos has grown to be one of the biggest mega-cities in the world in that space and it has come with its huge opportunities and of course with a lot of challenges. I am happy that the progressives have done very well in the last 20 years. They have created wealth for Lagosians, they have also built bridges and infrastructures all around the city. New schools have been built as well as new hospitals. They have also done a lot in terms of human developments. The revenue of the state has astronomically been enhanced through quality and effective representation. When they started in 1999, history shows that it was only a little over N600m that was internally generated but today, tens of billions have been generated now.

The question we need to ask is, is that also enough for today’s challenges? It’s definitely not but in terms of population, we have seen leaps and bounds of growth. People have come different parts of this country to live in Lagos as their choice and we are glad that Lagos too has been good to all of them. The first government that came in 1999 under the able leadership of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu brought in first-class technocrats and we have seen what has come out from those technocrats in terms of excellence service delivery. From all of that team which I will humbly say to you that I was also fortunate to be part of at the later years has thrown up people at the highest level of governance in this country. I won’t mention names but some have grown to be governors, one is a vice-president and so on. It means that if we can look back and see all of these things that have come out from this small Lagos that is less than half percentage in terms of size, then we know that the progressives have done a great job and they deserve kudos. Can we do better? That is why I am sitting here. We certainly can do a whole lot better, quicker and faster.

What do you intend to achieve in office in your first 100 days?

We will be running a marathon as if we are running sprint because of the various things that we have to do. We are hoping that in our first 100 days, we will have a working government. This means that all of our cabinet and the major appointments that we need to have, we will have them running very quickly. We should begin to see huge solutions in our traffic management scheme. In infrastructures, we are already in the rainy season; so even if we want to do some extensions and some laybys, there is a limit to what can you do because once it’s raining, you can’t pour concrete. Even when you pour concrete, sun has to come for it to dry to open up that lay-by.

Some of those issues will come up but in terms of identifying those corridors that we need traffic improvement, we have already done all of that. In terms of places that we need to improve and increase waste management solutions, we would have done all that. In the first three months, we would have roll out loads of waste management banks, where like I mentioned during my campaigns, sorting has to start from your kitchen which is where we are going to be looking for those colours of bags and then we bring them out we have a work in progress relationship with the PSP.

I imagine we would have made some capital expense in terms of procurement of new compactor trucks and other equipment but that will take a while before it comes in but we would have made those commitments within those period as well. Like I also said on the solution to Apapa gridlock, I believe that we would have solved it but the sustenance of it will be an issue if we are not careful. They will keep coming then and now but on a sustainable basis, it’s going to cost us money to put people there. Those are things that we need to do. We will also begin to work around the civil service within that period because we understand that all of these things we are talking about, we need professionals in the civil service to work with. So, in terms of capacity development and skill gaps, we need to quickly identify where they are in the public service so that we can put right people in the right places. In the areas of health and education, we would have rolled out a more detailed plan on what we need to do to ensure that growth in our education system is improved. For early education, a strategy would have been crafted out to show us what we need to do as soon as the kids are coming back to school in September 2019. On the health side, the collaboration that we need to have with the private sector to ensure that health is accessible will be given priority.

Affordability of it might still be a challenge in terms of identifying the vulnerable people but accessibility is something that we need to quickly deal with. On the issue of infrastructure, we would have developed plans on what new roads we need to build. At that time, you also need to be planning for next year’s budget. All these things we need to begin to implement very quickly. On the power sector, I imagine that in our 100 days in office, we would have a clear-cut policy with all the Discos and all the Gencos on how we must ensure that Lagos gets powered up very, very quickly.

Have you been briefed by the outgoing government on the lists of uncompleted projects in the state and will you give these projects priority when you assume office?

There have been several interactions that we have had. We have a transition committee. We have seen some documents in terms outstanding, though not in the way and manner I would have wanted them given the manner in which it was presented. We wanted a lot more detailed information as to how much were they? How much have been paid? How much is outstanding and so on? We didn’t get those detailed information but I cannot continue to explain now. From next week, I can actually request for some of these things. But in terms of completion of projects, they will form priority. What doesn’t get completed doesn’t get done. So, we will ensure that we do that and do them very well. There shouldn’t be any problem on uncompleted projects by the outgoing administration.

NYSCRe: Shuaibu Ibrahim: I Will Rather Die Than Lose One Corps Member — New NYSC DG by ajayiopy: 1:59pm On May 23, 2019
Amagite3:
Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, the new Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, says he is ready to sacrifice his life to ensure that no corps member dies during the service year.

Ibrahim said this on Wednesday during a visit to the staff and corps members at the NYSC Zonal Office in Akure.

The DG, who said he was happy to be in the state, told corps members to keep themselves abreast of what was happening in their environment and be security conscious.

Ibrahim urged the corps members to take the opportunity of the entrepreneurial programmes put in place by the scheme rather than embarking on frivolous travels.

I will prefer to die than losing a corps member. Keep yourself abreast of what is happening in your country, and make a difference as a corps member.

“I want to rejig our skills acquisition programme. If you take it seriously, we have partners that are ready to lend you money. I am very passionate about the scheme and my corps members.

“I came for a youth programme, so I decided to visit you my ‘children’. What will you be remembered for when you leave this place? Try as much as possible to keep your records clean
,” he said.

Ibrahim, on the sidelines of the event, described his visit as unofficial, saying, he would look for a way by which the scheme would not depend solely on government funds.

Earlier, Mrs Grace Akpabio, the state Coordinator of NYSC, described the visit of the DG as homecoming.

Akpabio also said the Ondo State Government had been helping to improve the scheme in the state, “especially with the building of perimeter fence at the Ikare Akoko Permanent Orientation Camp.”

She used the visit to reel out some of the achievements to the DG, especially the reactivation of farm in Ita Ogbolu to teach interested corps members how to farm.

The 18th DG of the scheme assumed duty on May 17.

unclesoyo:
Two Yahoo boys in Lagos have been convicted and jailed for 6 months by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The Internet fraudsters identified as Temitope Samson and Uduogwu Freeborn Eboagwu, were sentenced by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, The agency reports.

The convicts were arraigned today on an amended two-count charge bordering on possession of fraudulent documents containing false information, an offence contrary to Section 318 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State No. 11 of 2011.

One of the counts reads:

“That you, Temitope Samson, on or about the 14th day of March, 2019 in Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, had in your possession documents containing false pretence with the heading “Google Account Profile” , wherein you falsely represented yourself as Kaliyah Salius, which representations you knew or ought to know, having regards to the circumstances of the case, that the document contains false pretence.”

Another count reads:

“That you, Uduogwu Freeborn Eboagwu, on or about the 14th day of March, 2019 in Lagos, within the Ikeja Judicial Division, had in your possession documents containing false pretence with the heading “Devoted”, wherein you falsely represented yourself as Fred Fernando, which representations you knew or ought to know, having regards to the circumstances of the case that the document contains the false pretence.”

The defendants pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against them by the Commission.

In view of their guilty pleas, prosecution counsel, Joy Amahian, urged the court to convict and sentence them according to the Criminal Law of Lagos.

However, counsel to the defendants pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, saying, “My Lord, they are first time offenders and will never go back to Internet fraud, if given an option of fine and/ or community service.”

Justice Taiwo convicted and sentenced them to six months in prison each, with an option of fine of N250, 000.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira).

Justice Taiwo also ordered that the three laptops, two phones and two cars recovered from the defendants be forfeited to the Federal Government.

You may have been seeing a lot of Toyota Vehicles on our Nigerian roads because it’s one of the brands most preferred by Nigerians. Most of these Toyota Vehicles you see were imported from countries like Dubai, USA and Canada. Most importers go for the American specification as you would always hear “American Spec.” But do you know there is Toyota cars specifically built for Nigeria?

Toyota produces vehicles to meet specific regional conditions. These usually have to do with compatibility issues relating to fuel chemical composition, terrains and general environmental conditions. Toyota Nigeria Limited sells vehicles made to operate optimally in the Nigerian market.

It is good you know that the prices of cars sold by Toyota Nigeria Limited through their accredited dealers differ from the ones you get from unofficial dealers. This is why:

Prices differ due to specification variations. Considering our harsh environment, all Toyota vehicles sold by TNL come with ‘Severe User Package’ which includes reinforced suspension, heavy duty shock absorbers, engine under-guards, etc. These are all intrinsic value built in to withstand conditions of our terrain and provide peace of mind motoring.

These models built specifically for Nigerians are the only models sold by Toyota Nigeria Limited through their accredited dealers in the country.

Below are the Toyota models specifically built for Nigeria according to Toyota Nigeria Limited

1. Toyota Yaris
2. Toyota Corolla
3. Toyota Avensis
4. Toyota Camry
5. Toyota Rush
6. Toyota Rav4
7. Toyota Avanza
8. Toyota Fortuner
9. Toyota Prado

Beginning from today (Tuesday) containers and oil tankers would start moving goods from Lagos ports through the newly acquired Railway wagons to the north.

The goods would move to the dry port in Kaduna in the North.

The transport minister Rotimi Amaechi had ordered some wagons for the Lagos-Ibadan railway for the purpose.

This measure was designed to ease traffic and gridlocks caused by heavy-duty vehicles from Lagos and roads.

The move to curb the perennial traffic jam in Apapa axis, the Nigeria Railway Corporation resolved to deploy the eighteen newly imported wagons for haulage from Apapa seaport.

The Managing Director, Nigeria Railway Corporation, NRC, Engineer Fidet Okhiria, disclosed that the newly acquired 18 wagons are to boost the inland container dry port business by moving cargos from Apapa seaport to dry ports in Kaduna and other states.

The NRC has the capacity to evacuate 20 footer and 40 footer containers from Apapa port to, Ijoko and Abeokuta, both in Ogun state and Omi-Adio railway depots, in Oyo state, for onward transfer by parked trucks.

The trucks would evacuate the containers by road to their various destinations which most often is either the inland dry port in Kaduna or Kano.
