The Boko Haram Islamic group has confirmed the death of Abubakar Shekau, it’s erstwhile leader and the emergence of a new one in a short video recently released to the media. In the video, its presumed new Commander, Bakura Modu aka Sahaba enjoined members of the outlawed group to remain firm and not be discouraged by recent events. Abubakar was reportedly killed during infighting with the rival Islamic State for West African Province (ISWAP) last month. The ISWAP commander, Abu Musab Al-Barnawi, claimed Shekau killed himself while on the run from the group fighters. Newsmen report that in the video released in Arabic, the new Boko Haram commander urged his faction’s commanders to remain loyal despite the loss of Shekau, who was regarded as an iconic figure in the terrorists’ ranks. In the video, Bakura was flanked by scores of armed fighters as he addressed the camera. He said: “Commanders of Jama’atu Ahlu Sunna Lidda’awati Wal Jihad. Be steadfast and draw your swords, spreading your jihad, decapitating the enemy. “Don’t allow what befalls you these days to weaken your resolve on the jihad you are waging. This is because Allah has not forsaken your efforts.” He also encouraged Boko Haram commanders to reject Barnawi. Bakura’s faction is one of the Boko Haram elements operating in the Lake Chad area where they have access to porous borders with Chad and Niger. However, ISWAP fighters have taken over Shekau’s stronghold in the Sambisa forest in their bid for consolidation. https://www.akelicious.net/breaking-boko-haram-gets-new-leader/

The House of Representatives Committee on Youths says there is no plan to scrap the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC). The chairman of the committee, Yemi Adaramodu, said this in Abuja Thursday at the official unveiling of nine books on NYSC and maiden NYSC film in commemoration of the 48th anniversary of the scheme. According to him, the NYSC is the most successful national programme for fostering Nigeria’s unity. A bill sponsored by Awaji-Inombek Abiante, which had scaled the second reading at the lower chamber, called for the scrapping of the NYSC. But Adaramodu yesterday said: “Anybody is free to sponsor a bill, but the speaker and the rest of the house believe that the scheme has come to stay in Nigeria. “The scheme is going nowhere and it is not the plan of the National Assembly to scrap it. I want to let you know that we’re with you and for you. We’re fully with you, we’re together.” Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule said there was no reason to abolish the NYSC, stressing that “Just as there’s no price for security, there is also no price for unity, and the NYSC defines the unity of Nigeria.” A former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), said the NYSC had exposed corps members to life-changing opportunities and impacted the nation positively. Gowon called on the Federal Government to think of ways to strengthen the scheme with funds. He commended the NYSC for putting together works and data about the scheme as literature to enable the public read and have knowledge about it. NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, said the scheme had remained the most successful national programme established to address basic challenges that usually confront a developing nation and diverse society such as Nigeria. He said the documentation of the activities and achievements of the NYSC was to enrich Nigerians with the knowledge of Nigerians and non-Nigerians about the scheme, thereby engendering a greater appreciation of its relevance and achievements. https://www.akelicious.net/reps-drop-plan-to-scrap-nysc/

The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ambassador Professor George Obiozor played host to the British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Peter Thomas at the Ohanaeze Ndigbo National Secretariat, GRA, Enugu. Chief Alex Chiedozie Ogbonnia, Ohanaeze’s spokesperson disclosed this in a press statement. Obiozor used the opportunity to commend the British government for cordial relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, adding that the United Kingdom is home to a lot of Nigerians. Obiozor reminded the British diplomat that of all the countries in Europe, the British are the most involved in the affairs of Nigeria. He commended the various interventions of the Department for International Development (DFID) in Nigeria and hoped that they will not be discouraged by the current wave of violence in Nigeria. Prof. Obiozor used the opportunity to explain that since about two months ago, the Devil has visited the South East of Nigeria. Obiozor recalled that the South East was the most exemplary in peace and security; the most organized with a vigorous grassroots economic activity until most recently. He explained that the Igbo are a unique set of people in terms of hard work, ingenuity, perseverance and inventiveness, adding that whatever you deny the Igbo, they struggle and get it by themselves. He regretted that these spates of violence are occurring when the call for Igbo presidency in 2023 has gained traction from probability to possibility. He enumerated the causes of agitations in the South East and the need for restructuring of Nigeria to reflect true federalism. He emphasized that Nigeria owes equity and justice to the South East and that the Igbos are the most federating group of people in Nigeria. The Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Peter Thomas had earlier stated that the essence of his visit was to find out from the Igbo Leader why the South East has suddenly become violent. The diplomat expressed concern that peace in Nigeria is of utmost importance to the United Kingdom and believed that the visit will go a long way to enlighten him on the facts on ground. Others in the delegation are the Regional Co-ordinator, South East/ South South, Olachi Chuks Ronnie and James Guntent. In his vote of thanks, the Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ambassador Okey Emuchay, MFR commended the delegation for their timely fact finding mission and praised their courage for braving both the real and imagined insecurity situation in the South East. https://www.akelicious.net/ohanaeze-receives-british-high-commissioner-in-enugu-state/

Former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has expressed regret that he was part of a system that failed to produce good leadership in the country. Jega who was in charge as INEC boss when Buhari emerged as winner of a controversial 2015 presidential election in the country, said that Nigeria cannot continue to allow bad people to govern or misgovern them any more. Speaking during the inauguration of a 35-man People’s Redemption Party (PRP) Policy Advisory Committee (PPAC), in Abuja, he said the country needs serious political cleansing which would also require every Nigerian to not repeat past mistakes. I believe that all Nigerians can no longer sit on the fence as everybody needs to contribute to the cleansing of politics in Nigeria. There should be no fence-sitters; our future is at stake. We cannot allow bad people to continue to govern us or misgovern us and continue to wreck our country and its future,” he said. The former INEC boss previously said every Nigerian deserves a better life and it is the government’s responsibility to ensure that. He advised that if it becomes clear that leaders in the country are unable to improve the lives of the people, they have no reason to be in power. Jega who made the statement during a lecture organized by the Hudaibiyya Centre held at the Aminu Kano College of Legal and Islamic Studies in Kano, said it was unfortunate that leaders’ nonchalant attitude to the masses woes thrive in Nigeria, ‘‘whereas these are what other nations have been fighting to erase from their system. If a leader fails, it is up to the public to ensure that they vote them out”. Jega added that there is an urgent need for the Buhari-led administration to come up with measures that would address insecurity and instability in various sectors of the nation. Another person to similarly express regrets over the current leadership failure in the country, is former Sports minister, Solomon Dalung. Dalung who served under the Buhari administration, expressed regrets that the government under which he once served, has failed the Nigerian people. Dalung who made the statement in an interview with BBC Hausa, said despite having worked with the Buhari government during his first term in office, and is still a card carrying member of the APC, he is not afraid to speak truth to power. He said the current state of the nation is frightening as Nigerians are forced to seek alternative means of survival in their own country as government doesn’t exist. He said, “In the north, if you are a Muslim and you want to travel, you must pray, fast for days before embarking on the journey. If you are Christian and you want to travel, you must fast and pray for days before you travel. Even if the journey is successful, you will still go to the hospital because of high blood pressure arising from fear during the journey. We have never experienced this kind of situation. Imagine in the north, before you go to your farm, you will have to pay gunmen to allow you farm. If you want to harvest your farm produced, you will still have to pay gunmen before they allow you to harvest. ... vows to overhaul healthcare in Anambra State Raph Udeh Top PDP aspirant and foremost pain Doctor in the world, Dr. Godwin Maduka has continued to make a shocking revelation about the substandard quality of medication administered on patients in Nigeria with the caution that if this trend continued unabated, common and treatable diseases will continue to become fatal. He lamented that the COVID 19 pandemic exposed the gross inadequacy of modern medical equipment available in our hospitals, basic equipment like oxygen plants etc. Dr. Godwin Maduka stated this at interactive sessions with delegates in 14 LGAs of Anambra on how best to position the party for victory during the forthcoming Anambra Governorship election slated for 6th November , 2021. He charged party faithful, particularly delegates to make the right decision and selection during primaries, a candidate who not only understands the deplorable situation of things but has the capacity and the will power to rescue Anambra from the brink, restore her glory and set her on the road to unparalleled development should be elected. He reiterated his resolve to change the narratives in the healthcare sector by driving the kind of reforms that will attract critical players in the sector from all over the world. He reminded the delegates that a sound and robust health sector is a precursor to an economically vibrant state, for health is wealth. He assured delegates that he was the only candidate with global network and the concomitant will to change the face of Anambra State and make it a poster child for innovations and performance. He recounted how recently he took some of the medicines produced in Nigeria to his lab in the US and discovered that most of the active ingredients were not in their right proportion, thereby affecting their efficacy. Dr Maduka stated that part of his mission in Anambra is to make the state a hub for medical tourism and a top investment destination in Nigeria. According to him, "Changing the narrative in the healthcare sector is easy because this is our natural habitat. We have done it in the US with our six hospitals there. Without sounding boastful , I'm one of the critical players in American health sector. You have seen with your eyes too, what I'm trying to do in healthcare sector in Nigeria with the International Medical Research Institute, Umuchukwu which will be the most sophisticated in this part of the world with the kind of state of the art medical equipment we want to install. You can also attest to our resolve and our capacity by what we have done with Trinity International hospital Umuchukwu and the caliber of people we have sent abroad for training and all of these are done in my private capacity and personal resources. Imagine how much more we can achieve when we mount the saddle of leadership in the state initiating, shaping, directing and implementing governmental policies." https://www.akelicious.net/most-of-the-medications-we-use-in-nigeria-are-poison-dr-godwin-maduka/

Today the Imo state Government through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has made a shocking finding and revelation where a warehouse was discovered with millions of naira worth of properties meant for the development of the state. Conducting the media men round the warehouse, the Hon. Commissioner for Commerce and Industry Comr. Simon Ebegbulem revealed that it is unfortunate that anybody or group of persons can decide to rob the people of their common wealth all for their selfish interest and for personal aggrandizement. The shocking discovery was made following the directive of the governor, Sen. Hope Uzodimma who in the past has revealed the many atrocities of the Rochas Okorocha’s administration of which this is one of it and his firm resolve to ensure that all government looted properties are recovered. It is evident that the shared prosperity government and its 3R mantra initiative is very much focused on getting the state to work again by recovering all that has been stolen by crude politicians. The warehouse which is located at Aba/Owerri road is loaded with solar panels and its components, traffic lights, inverters, street lights, decorative trees, heavy machinery, mixers, sewing machines. Fresh tracks of trailer tyres were seen on the spot which shows that some items have been moved from the warehouse already. By this singular act of the state government, it has read the riot act to looters and those in possession of government properties illegally to return it now or risk prosecution. https://www.akelicious.net/imo-state-govt-discovers-warehouse-loaded-with-govt-properties-photos/

IPOB Rejects Governors’ Security Outfit In S-East, Insists Only Its ESN Will Protect Zone The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has rejected the vigilante security outfit proposed by the South East governors and warned parents not to allow their children enroll into the outfit. The separatists said their opposition to the governors’ outfit was because IPOB believes that the Igbo governors were being teleguided by forces that do not have Igbo interest at heart. In a statement issued by the spokesman of IPOB, Emma Powerful on Thursday, the Group said only its own Eastern Security Network (ESN) would be allowed to operate in the South east. They went on to pour vituperations on the South East governors, calling them Efulefus (loafers). In the statement titled: “No parallel regional security outfit will be allowed to operate alongside ESN in Biafra land”, it said, “We the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) under the command and leadership of our great Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to warn South East governors particularly Gov Dave Umahi (Ebonyi state Governor and Chairman of South East Governors’ Forum) to jettison the proposed new security outfit they intend to launch based on the advice of the Fulani-controlled Federal Government of Nigeria. “We know that their intention is to counter the formidable Eastern Security Network, ESN, protecting and defending Biafrans against terrorists and invaders responsible for the senseless attacks, rapings and wanton killings of our mothers, wives and sisters in our farmlands and forests. “We warn these clueless governors in our region not to heed the mischievous advice and attempt by Miyetti Allah and Sokoto caliphate intended to compromise the security of Biafrans. “Any Miyetti Allah vigilante group under any nomenclature formed by Dave Umahi and his fellow Efulefu governors as well as Ohaneze will be resisted by the people of Old Eastern region”, it warned. Addressing parents, IPOB said: “We, therefore, advise every Biafran father and mother to caution their children against joining Umahi’s vigilante group as such an outfit is already the enemy of the people. “Their agenda is sinister and anti- Biafra. Remember that the real masterminds of the plot – the Fulani cabal running the failed contraption called Nigeria – having been emboldened by their success in installing one of their stooges as Ohaneze President, are now set to control Biafraland but ESN and IPOB have remained their only nightmare. “No wonder Fulani can buy Efulefu Eastern leaders so cheaply. They know that the likes of Umahi are blinded by inordinate political ambitions. “But to their disappointment, our people are now alive to their responsibilities and won’t allow Miyetti Allah to control the security architecture of the East as they are now attempting to take over Amotekun in the West. “We are happy to aver that the grand conspiracy by our oppressors to take over the South with the help of compromised leaders is dead on arrival!”, IPOB insisted. In emphasizing its opposition to the proposed security outfit, the separatist group said, “We declare without equivocation, that any other group parading as South East and South South Security outfit will not be allowed to operate on Biafra soil. “Our people have already launched their own defense line – ESN – as our self-acclaimed leaders were nowhere to be found when it counted most. “Anyone who enlists in any treacherous security outfit sponsored by Fulani stooges in our land to desteblize our territory, will regret such a decision.’ IPOB also alleged that the newly elected President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Ambassador George Obiozor was foisted on the Igbo umbrella socio-cultural organisation. Said the statement, “IPOB sounded the warning long ago that Miyetti Allah was going to foist George Obizor as President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo but many didn’t believe us. “Today has that not happened? Now they have moved to form security outfit for us because our governors and political leaders are blinded by their greed and selfish political ambitions but the move is dead on arrival! “Remember that the same Miyetti Allah demanded to join Amotekun vigilante but Yoruba people, aware of their evil motive, bluntly turned down their request. “It’s very shameful that instead of supporting the people to strengthen ESN, South East Governors led by governor Dave Umahi are hobnobbing with Miyetti Allah to compromise the security of the East. “It’s only a fool that will hire his enemy to midwife the birth of his only son. “Our message is simply this: IPOB will not allow terrorists any breeding ground on Biafra forests and farmlands. The rapings, killings and unprovoked attacks by these vampires must stop throughout Biafra territory. “Anyone against this irreversible resolve of the people to defend themselves against foreign occupation will be crushed! “ESN has been launched with the mandate of securing BIAFRA land, and no force can disband this great movement until it’s done with its mandate!” IPOB vowed. https://www.akelicious.net/ipob-rejects-governors-security-outfit-in-s-east-insists-only-its-esn-will-protect-zone/

As Gov. Hope Uzodimma is assiduously working towards the rebranding, upgrading and sanitization of the Civil Service system against corruption and every form of maladministration, it is very much clear that it will not be an easy ride especially when sharp practices virtually run in the civil service DNA. The Governor amongst many other sectors of the state is very passionate about the civil service since it is the engine that powers the economical drive of the state. It is often said that a moribund civil service is tantamount to a snail pace economy either at the federal or state level and for the shared prosperity to get to all and sundry, there is need to reawaken the patriotic spirit of our civil servants. The shared prosperity government of Gov. Hope Uzodimma since inception has prioritized the welfare of Imomo workers through the payment of salaries, renovation and steady power supply of and in the state secretariat, provision of a mass transit coaster bus to take civil servants tho and fro to work. These and many more are amongst the few things government is doing to ensure that there is no room for lapses or sharp practices in the system. It is expected that while fighting corruption, corruption will eventually fight back but Gov. Hope Uzodimma is more than ready to fight to a stand still any form of corrupt practices or persons that will jeopardize or sabotage the efforts of the state government in making imo civil service a world class of global best practices. Civil servants in the state should as a matter of dedication, commitment and sincerity to duty align with the new order of government for the civil service and ensure the eschew unnecessary excuses to work and unethical practices in line with the 3R mantra initiative that will continuously put smile on their faces. For the economy of the state to move forward beyond where it is now, both the state government and civil servants in the state must have to work in tandem and synergize on different courses that can move the state forward and this is what Gov. Hope Uzodimma is ready to do for a purposeful judicious use of the meager resources in the state. https://www.akelicious.net/gov-hope-uzodimma-asks-civil-servants-in-the-state-to-align-with-new-government-order/

southniyikaye:VIOLENT YOUTH PROTESTS: ANTITHESIS TO PEACE AND PROGRESS The North-South Progressive Movement (NOSOP) has carefully monitored the #ENDSARS protests in some parts of the country with a concrete 5 points demand presented to the Federal Government. The youths outraged by the brutality of that special unit of the Nigerian Police Force protested in unison for its disbandment to which the government concede and announced the immediate disbandment of SARS. The youths remained on the streets in protest and unfortunately some were mowed down by soldiers’ bullet at the Lekki Toll Gate on 20 th October, 2020. This barbaric shooting and murder of armless protesting youths by trigger happy soldiers outraged the youths and led to escalation of protests in most Southern States. We at NOSOP condemn in very strong terms the killing of armless youths protesting against a cause they felt strongly and passionately about. Protest is a recognized means of expressing public opinion and the right to peaceful assembly is a constitutional guaranteed right in Nigeria. However, it is regrettable that hoodlums and miscreants hid under the cover of EndSARS protest to unleash destruction of public infrastructure and economic assets including private investments of hardworking Nigerians. This unfortunate incident made it inevitable for some States to impose dusk to dawn curfew to restore peace and order with the attendant economic losses and disruption of public services. It is the view of NOSOP that the gain achieved by the initial peaceful protest will amount to nothing but wasted efforts if the protests persist. It is in the interest of the protesters and government as well as the citizenry to ensure that there is absolute peace in the country. There can be no meaningful achievement in an atmosphere of chaos and instability. The country is currently grappling with enormous leadership and developmental challenges and adding to the challenge will put the country at a risk of collapse of the economy and national cohesion. Granted that Nigeria is not where it should be but the desired level cannot be attained by acts which are inimical to peace and unity or by resort to criminality. On behalf of the Nigerian youths, NOSOP offers to lead the engagement with the government on implementation of the demands of Nigerian youths. We realize the huge task of governance and the fact that a lot depends on funding. We advise the government to prioritize the demands of our youths and take concrete, precise and measurable steps to addressing their demands. Furthermore, we appeal to the youths to heed the advice of Mr. President as contained in the Presidential broadcast of October 22, 2020 to withdraw from the streets. We appeal also to the security and law enforcement agencies to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians and ensure that law abiding citizens go about their businesses without let or hindrance. NOSOP enjoins Nigerians to maintain peace and show tolerance in these challenging moments. This too will pass. May God continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The South East National Vice President of the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) Prince Petrus Obi, has described the body as a union without a president as the certificate forgery case which has marred the union rages on. Obi who made this known while addressing journalists in Enugu on Friday said the purported emergence of Mr Chris Isiguzo as the president of the union was a disaster which has led the union into crisis. He described Isiguzo as an imposter who has till date failed to present the basic academic qualification required for membership of the union. He said: "There is no president of NUJ in Nigeria. This is because the person that is there has no requisite qualifications to be there. He doesn't possess the qualification to be a journalist. He does not have School Certificate. He doesn't have the required Ordinary National Diploma in Mass Communication". "Therefore he lacks the locus to be suspending people everywhere. I am still the Vice President of NUJ South East. Wale Odusile is still a member of NUJ. Chibota Edozie is still the National Vice President of NAWOJ in the South East". He commended NUJ members in Imo State for standing their grounds by setting up a caretaker committes which has promptly taken over the council secretariat in the state. "I congratulate the people of Imo for standing their grounds against his plans to impose leadership on the majority of people who have said no. He has defied every part of NUJ constitution. Garba Shehu, spokesman of President Muhammadu Buhari, has reacted to the increase in petrol price, saying the product sold at a higher rate when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in power. Writing via his Twitter handle on Tuesday, the presidential spokesman said petrol sold for as much as N600 per litre under PDP. The federal government through the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC) recently increased the ex-depot price of petrol from N138.62 to N151.56 per litre. Following the increment, petrol marketers raised the price of the product from N148 to between N158 and N162 per litre. This happened days after electricity distribution companies (DisCos) in the country began the implementation of the new cost-reflective electricity tariff. The hike was condemned by many Nigerians and groups. The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) had said the government did nothing to help citizens cope with the devastating economic impact of the pandemic. The PDP, on its part, described the increment as “callous, cruel and punishing“, and demanded that it should be reversed to avert “a national crisis.” But Shehu accused the main opposition party of deceit. “Don’t allow the PDP to deceive you. Amidst acute shortages, they sold petrol at N600 per litre on Easter Sunday in 2013 (See Punch published on that day),” he tweeted alongside a newspaper publication. The presidential aide, however, came under attack over the comment, with many accusing him of unjustly justifying the petrol price hike. One user by the name Benson asked him to cover his head “in shame” for making such remarks. “@GarShehu is this a way of justifying the increase in fuel pump price? Was the N600 official price?” he asked. “You should cover your face in shame. Apc was voted for all its promises, and here we are today.” Ada King, another user, asked: “So what is your point exactly? This is why Nigeria can never ever get better because these so-called leaders would rather dwell in the past and continue to do nothing than make any positive difference. “Since 2015 all you do is blame, blame & blame. Is that why you’re in Govt?” Another user accused him of making such remarks because he gets such services as the supply of petrol for free. “You all get all these on a platter and if you manage to buy some, it is still the nation’s money. You will surely not remain in power, https://www.akelicious.net/petrol-sold-at-n600-per-litre-under-pdp-garba-sheu/

If the President’s nephew and one of his closest advisers, Mallam Mamman Daura, were a Christian and a Southerner, I am 110 per cent sure that his recent proposition that for 2023 and beyond, Nigerians should not think about zoning the presidency any more but should consider only merit, would not have raised any eyebrows from some Nigerians, especially Southerners. I am also 110 percent sure that the columnists, opinion leaders and political activists who have written or spoken in condemnation of him would have done the reverse. They would have written glowing pieces hailing him as one of the few living statesmen, patriots and nationalists still around, actively and patriotically trying to shape the destiny of the nation. In my own small corner where I sit to monitor the affairs of my country, the question that came to my mind is: why did Christian and Southern commentators interpret his advocacy to mean that men and women of merit and competence can be found only in the North and the people who can have a chance to have a shot at the presidency if only it is conceded to them through zoning or other affirmative measures, are to be found only in the South? As a Christian and Southerner, I find this position deeply insulting. Don’t we have people who can have reasoned arguments devoid of insults and regional posturing by agreeing with him but saying at the same time that the South, especially the South East which I think should be supported by all Nigerians to produce the next president for the sake of justice, peace and stability, has a surfeit of ‘meritorious’ presidential materials? In fact, if Nigeria were not resting on a tripod and the case was left open for any Southerner to be considered, I would have humbly presented my humble self, if no one else is willing to look in my direction. For, apart from thefactthatIamnotIbo,Idonot see what I lack as a very meritorious, competent and suitable presidential material. Presidential candidates and presidents don’t have horns! The story of our utter brokenness can be seen in the fact that we Nigerians can no longer have any reasoned consensus about where our nation should go so that it will be good for everyone to fulfil his or her destiny devoid of the tensions, stress and suspicion that have enveloped the land today. My own proposition is that the talent, treasure and technique for governance are evenly distributed and that a minority of minorities like me have what it takes to provide adequate direction for this nation even better than some of those who have been privileged by God to sit on that seat in the past. It is true that it took the USA a very long time after her Civil War for ‘’Northerners’’ to concede power to the South. But Nigeria is not the USA and it will not do for chauvinists whether in the north or west of our country to tender the argument of the USA example in support of the North producing a president again in 2023 and beyond or for the West to want it. It is simply not fair to the Ibos who are one leg of the Nigerian tripod. A two-stone contraption cannot provide the needed balance for a pot to cook the family meal. It will fall and spill the family’s precious food! We need a three-stone tripod. What I feel is that it is in the best interest of the North for its leaders to make it clear that it is the unmistakable turn of the South East to produce the next president of our country. And the North should do this now in their interest and in the interest of the country. No one from the North should further heat the polity by tendering the inciting old argument that power is never peacefully surrendered to anyone. My gentle warning is that if the North makes the mistake of allowing fate or the power and guile of Southerners to accede to power, that power will not return peacefully to the North again in the nearest future. We oracles of God do not want our prophecies to come to pass; we do not want to say ‘’we told you so’’ because when people do not learn by counsel but through awful experience, the results are often quite costly. I believe that it is only after the Ibos take their turn that anyone, whether north or south, can now comfortably talks about ‘merit’. As things are now it is unmistakably the turn of the Ibos and none should say or post anything on the social or mainstream media wondering whether any one will be comfortable entrusting presidential powers into the hands of the Ibos as my friend and former comrade Naseer Kura did recently on Facebook. Such a gambit is dangerous as it is highly inciting and inflammable. As far as I can see Ibo people are not more roguish or saintly than the Hausa- Fulanis or the Yoruba or anybody else in Nigeria. We all are an admixture of good and bad people like all people of God on planet earth. One of the redeeming steps Buhari should take immediately is to find a way to politely tell the Jagaban of Borgu kingdom, Bola Tinubu, that Nigeria at this moment does not favour a Hausa-Yoruba political ping pong. And that he should, therefore, shelve his presidential ambition in the interest of peace and the continued existence of Nigeria as one political entity. Such a step will restore his sagging image as a nationalist and a man of fairness and justice. If the North and other Nigerians want me to also exercise my right by mentioning who I consider suitable Ibo presidential materials, I will do so now without equivocation. My number one is Peter Obi, the two Nwodo brothers and Dr. Sam Amadi. There are, of course, many others but for me, these are great Ibo men who can be great presidents. I further state that Peter Obi is the greatest of them all. However you want to define merit this man has it and has demonstrated it. And however you want to define representation or zoning, this man eminently qualifies on that count too. My humble advice to my Ibo brethren is that there should quickly meet, dissolve all their differences and pick Peter Obi and present him to Nigerians as their choice and ask Nigerians to crown him as our president of Ibo extraction. President Buhari on his part should accept Peter Obi without any pre- conditions such as that he should declare for his party APC before he can support him. In fact political leaders on both the APC and PDP platforms should do what the military of General Abdulsallam Abubakar did in 1998 by deciding that only two Ibo men will be each of their presidential candidates in 2023. I bet that if Buhari sends a clear message, through his famous body language but to me more appropriately through an open declaration, that he is in favour of an Ibo president for 2023, his approval rating will go sky high and many of the political problems he has now will just disappear overnight. I say so because his leadership failures have been deepened by despair and suspicion that his succession will create huge problems for the country because he will insist on a Muslim Northerner of Fulani extraction on his party platform. This suspicion is widely held across the nation, including some of those who are thought to be potential beneficiaries who are alarmed about the consequences. On the issue of Nigeria’s tripod, I don’t know whether it is Fate (God) or Satan that has so far severely tried three Nigerian presidents-Obasanjo, Jonathan and now Buhari- to see their statesmanship abilities or the lack of it. When Obasanjo came in in 1999, there was no Ibo man properly elected on the platform of his party to be made Senate president to be number three man. Obasanjo had to bend over backwards to ensure that while he a Yoruba was number one and Atiku, a Hausa-Fulani, was number two, an Ibo man should be number three. Obasanjo accomplished that and obeyed the unstated Nigerian tripod law. Jonathan was confronted by a similar challenge. He is a Christian- Southerner and his deputy a Muslim- Northerner. By some strong force beyond his political competence to control, the number three position, the Senate Presidency, went to a Christian Middle Belter and not to a Yoruba man. He was also outsmarted by some political young Turks in the Federal House of Representatives who swung the number four position in the country’s political pecking order to one of their own from a wrong place leaving the Yorubas without even the fourth position! This failure of the Yorubas to get their ‘due share’ was blamed on Jonathan and he suffered this albatross throughout his stay. It eventually cost him the presidency in 2015 as the Yorubas felt they had no portion in Nigeria under Jonathan and for the first time in the country’s history aligned with the Hausa Fulani to keep the Ibos out of the power loop at the centre. For Buhari, his failure to give the Ibos a feeling of belonging is so obvious that millions of Ibo feel that he still harbours the Civil War animus against their tribe. That is why Buhari must take the extraordinary step of showing the Ibos that even if he personally hates them as widely perceives, he has no other option but to do what is necessary not for the sake of the Ibos but for the sake of Nigeria. This is what is called statesmanship. Nigeria needs Buhari’s statesmanship at this time more than anything else he may do now or at any other time. https://www.akelicious.net/2023-presidency-if-mamman-daura-were-a-christian-and-a-southerner/
