Members and Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in their numbers, trooped to the streets of Osogbo, Osun State capital expressing displeasure over the judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal.

*Ugwuanyi coerces civil servants, shuts down the State services for G5 rally*

Information slipping out from dissatisfied civil servants across Enugu State reveals that the PDP-led State government under the leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi instructed all civil servants to shut down work activities and turn up at Okpara Square for the People Democratic Party rally.

The report is that the State Secretariat, public schools - both primary and secondary and even markets in Enugu State have been closed for the day under the guise of enabling people to pick up their PVCs when in reality, they are being forced to create an impression that the PDP candidate and the party, Peter Mbah is widely accepted by Enugu people.

This comes after two days of IPOB imposed sit-at-home in the state.

Given the abysmal performance of the PDP-led administration in the past seven years, there is hardly any expectations for proper decision-making by this incumbent governor. But it would seem that Ugwuanyi, in partnership with his chosen successor, Peter Mbah, has completely abandoned actual governance and democratic propriety for the chance to renew another four years of failure.

The civil servants are heading to Okpara Square to mark an attendance sheet and avoid punishment from the government.
However, the grumbling amongst them is a clear sign that the People’s Democratic Party has broken the camel's back with this last straw of oppression.

Politics“A Strategic Food Reserve As A Key Initiative In The Overall Plan For Food Secur by akelicious(op): 2:21pm On Dec 31, 2022
A Strategic Food Reserve as a key initiative in the overall plan for food security in Enugu state” - Frank Nweke Jr

The holiday season is generally a time of merriment and laughter with family and friends expecting to gather around tables of food and drinks.

For many of our brothers and sisters in Enugu State, this is not the reality. From my trips around the State and the requests I have received online and offline, it is apparent that the majority of people are barely making it through the season. The Nigerian Poverty Map by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics reports that 63.1% of our people live in abject poverty. This is heartbreaking. As always, I encourage us to be our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers at all times, especially now. However, no matter how much we do as private citizens, it cannot cover what can be achieved through the rightful deployment of the resources of the government, which belongs to the people. This is why I am running to become the governor because I understand in clear terms that public resources are meant to improve the lives of our people, and not for a few private pockets.

Reflecting on the economic situation and its impact on the season has further highlighted the need for a multi-sectoral food security strategy with coordinated actions across various sectors from security to agriculture, education, health and nutrition, infrastructure, and social services.

These areas are core to my plan for reigniting the coal city, with clearly articulated steps to implement them. While working to entrench these structural and sustainable changes to improve the State’s Per Capita Income, I also see the need to provide respite for residents in the most underserved communities.

To that end, we will set up an Enugu Strategic Food Reserve (ESFR) for Enugu State when elected into the office of the governor in 2023, God-willing. The primary aim of this initiative is to provide succour to low-income earners and vulnerable communities with one centre in each senatorial zone.

With our goal being to ensure that nobody goes hungry, we will have a robust data-driven plan to place families on a food distribution program for specific durations. However, the Enugu Strategic Food Reserve (ESFR) will not be a purely charitable venture. It will be designed as a social enterprise to serve more than one purpose.

Through the ESFR, we will provide a ready market for thousands of farmers as we purchase and store farm produce from them. It will also serve as a needed storage facility to salvage a portion of the estimated 40% of agricultural produce lost to the unavailability of good storage facilities. Working with the Agricultural innovation Centers that we set up across the six Agricultural zones & Leveraging agricultural co-operatives, we will ensure profitability to our farmers for their improved farm yields.

During the rainy and festive seasons that are notorious for price hikes, we will use the ESFR to moderate food prices by strategically releasing stored grains and other key food items into the market and selling them at affordable rates to indigent communities. This will be done bearing in mind the need for profitability for traders as well.

The creation of a food reserve that is safe and has the capacity to serve our goals will require the involvement of experts, good management and sizeable funding. But with clarity of purpose, transparency, the right stakeholder engagement and the right contractors, it is achievable.

We will begin the process by working with local leaders within selected communities and engaging our Research and Development Institutes, leveraging the academic advantage we have as a State.

Overall, we aim to pursue a holistic economic strategy to significantly improve the quality of life of residents and will always look for innovative ways to achieve this goal, either in the short term or for the long haul.

Politics2023: PDP Comes 4th In Enugu Online Governorship Poll, As Labour Sustains Lead by akelicious(op):
Enugu2023: PDP comes 4th in Enugu online governorship poll, as Labour sustains lead

Signs that the people of Enugu State have totally rejected the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have continued to emerge, with the ruling party in the state placing a distant fourth position in an online poll seeking to determine who would become the Governor of the State in the 2023 elections.

The poll, the first of its kind conducted by Energy FM 105.5, sought to find out who the preferred candidate of the respondents was. After two weeks, the poll, which had respondents voting only once, saw the Labour Party Governorship candidate in the State, Barr Chijioke Edeoga massing 24.2 percent of the votes, while C. D. Ogbe, of the Action Alliance, came second, with 16.2 percent of the votes.

Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Uche Nnaji, was the third most preferred candidate, closing with 4.2 percent of the votes, while the ruling PDP’s candidate, Barr Peter Mbah, won the hearts of only 4.1 percent of votes to return as the 4th most preferred candidate, closely followed by, Frank Nweke Jr. of APGA, and Chris Agu, the candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the one of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

Energy FM, which announced the results in a statement published Monday evening said: "After the collation of results by our in-house panel, Labour Party came tops with 24.2% of the votes, while Action Alliance came second with 16.2% of the votes; APC completed the third position with 4.2% of the total votes; other parties that scored 4th, 5th and 6th were PDP, APGA, and PRP respectively....with invalid votes making up 10% of the total online votes."

It is the third time polls are pointing toward LP's Edeoga as the candidate expected to win the governorship election in Enugu State in March 2023.
Until a new electoral law came into force early this year, Enugu had remained a one-party state, as the PDP had always had it easy winning all elections in the state. However, with the amendments to the Electoral Laws of the country, guaranteeing the integrity of voting, the people of the state appear willing to speak their minds at the polls, with poll after poll pointing to the desire of the people for a total departure from the past.

The emergence of Barr Chijjioke Edeoga as the Labour Party Gubernatorial candidate for Enugu State has since raised the bar in political campaign messaging in the state. Edeoga has sustained an engagement strategy that is endearing him to the people. A look at his campaign calendar indicates that he plans to visit all the wards in the state. If he completes this, he would be the first person seeking to be elected as governor to visit all council wards in the state for campaigns.

People the Edeoga phenomenon changed the narrative, it was traditional for people that emerged as PDP candidates for elections to begin to celebrate victory immediately after party nominations. But with the people increasingly demanding a new order, all the political parties in the state appear to be working hard to win the votes of the people.

Having superintended the affairs of the state since the return of democracy in 1999, with little to show for their stewardship, it is becoming increasingly hard for the PDP to find convincing anchor for their messages, a situation that is clearly manifesting in the outcome of the Energy FM poll, and other previous polls.

PoliticsEnugu 2023: Nweke Assures Nsukka People Transparent, If Elected As Governor by akelicious(op): 4:43pm On Dec 19, 2022
Frank Nweke Jr, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Enugu State, on Sunday assured Nsukka people that his government will fulfill the promise of providing critical infrastructure and instituting a visionary, transparent, God-fearing and people-oriented leadership come 2023.

Nweke made the assurance as the people pledged their support to him for his visionary leadership qualities and impeccable track record at a town hall meeting at the Nsukka Civic Center, Obachara Nsukka. The people used the occasion to enumerate their needs to him.

Listing the woes that the people have faced under the leadership of the PDP-led government in Enugu State over the years, Hon Uchenna Ugwuanyi, APGA House of Assembly candidate for Nsukka West, said that Igbos are being marginalized in Nigeria. Hence the people need a political force like APGA to get what belongs to them. He pointed out that there are no functional rail lines in Igbo land unlike in other regions of the country adding that such can only be redressed by voting in Nweke and other APGA candidates because they are truly for the people.

On his part, Hon Emeka Agbala, APGA House of Assembly candidate for Nsukka East, told the people that a vote for Frank Nweke Jr is a vote for him. He said that the aspiration of the APGA governorship candidate is to fix the place and not short change the poor masses like the current ruling party in Enugu State.

Other residents such as Elder Emmanuel Obeta; a woman leader, Mrs. Lebechi Onah; youth leaders, Comrade Joseph Ejike and Jacinta Onyekelu listed bad roads, lack of water, lack of electricity, insecurity and unemployment after year’s of formal education, amongst others as the problems they currently face.

Assuring the people that his government will make provision of those basic amenities a priority, Frank Nweke Jr noted the very bad state of roads in the area and indeed in sections of the entire state. He also decried the lack of water across the state assuring he would address them squarely.

"For our roads, we are clear on how to approach the rehabilitation and construction of roads in the State through a Strategic Road Construction and Rehabilitation Programme.

“Water availability and good access roads are also critical to economic growth as well as personal comfort and we already have plans to revive the Adada water scheme with a water distribution plan to serve towns and cities in Enugu North, while designing new water supply systems with existing water bodies in different communities.”

Frank Nweke Jr said that with working infrastructure, as well as the right policies, companies will be confident enough to set up their businesses in the State and provide jobs to solve the problem of unemployment.

He also assured the people that his government will stop the diversion of local government funds, which the government of the day does presently. He would ensure that only competent, visionary, knowledgeable and honest individuals are allowed to run the local government.

Frank Nweke Jr, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Enugu State, on Thursday reiterated his commitment to leverage the agricultural advantage of the region to boost economic transformation.

He said this while assuring the people of Adaba Community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area that the needs they had enumerated to him were a top priority for him.

A youth leader and member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Engr. Chimezie Agu said the PDP government had failed to keep their promises to Adaba and its surrounding communities in Uzo-Uwani, hence the youths vowed to throw their weight behind the All Progressives Grand Alliance in the coming elections. He listed agricultural machines and other inputs, a functional market and good roads as the pressing needs of the people acknowledging their overwhelming support for Nweke and APGA.

In his response, Frank Nweke Jr began by promising a firm resolution to the terror of herdsmen attacks, ensuring that itinerant farmers could return to their trade without fear. They would also be provided with extension services through Agricultural Innovation Centers set up across the State.

"We will help you to set up agricultural co-operatives and work through these to widen access to factors of production such as capital, capacity building, equipment, land, seedlings for rural farmers, people transitioning from the civil service and a new generation of agro-food entrepreneurs.

"We will also revive the era of farming estates and attract large scale farmers in order to open up the entire Uzo-Uwani to accelerate development. These settlements will have all the needed infrastructure needed to live comfortably such as good roads, water, healthcare, schools, markets and more. This will speed up rural development and reduce congestion in the major cities"

Nweke also said the community’s broken down roads will receive priority attention under his administration’s Strategic Road Construction and Rehabilitation Programme, noting its importance for the transportation of agricultural produce from the farms to markets.

Secure Your Future by Participating In the Selection of Credible Leadership – Frank Nweke Jr, Urges Enugu Youths

Frank Nweke Jr, the trailblazing governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), on Saturday urged youths to secure their future by taking interest in politics and participating in the selection of credible leadership.
Nweke, who is now the toast of Enugu people given the immense goodwill he enjoys everywhere he goes, made the statement at the main auditorium of the Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu as Special Guest of Honor for “My Vote, My Voice” a themed choral competition event for young people who want to be part of the democratic process.
The event, put together by Enugu Literary Society and the West African Broadcasting Academy and supported by Ford Foundation, was to encourage young people to vote using music as a motivating factor.
According to the Director of the Society, Mr. Ike Okere, the competition was in three stages and Saturday marked the finals with prices to the tune of N1 million, N750,000, and N500,000 awarded to the first, second and third positions respectively for groups of singers with the best jingles for voters awareness.
In his address at the occasion, Frank Nweke Jr expressed his excitement and pleasure with the youths for their engaging presentations.
“Just listening to all of you makes me even more determined to become your Governor in 2023. What you have done gives credence to my faith in the young people of Enugu, in your skills, your capacity, in your creative genius and in what Enugu can become with the right leadership.
“I am particularly happy at the new political consciousness that you have as young people and your participation in the political arena."
Frank Nweke Jr maintained that that leadership can only emerge when the youths participate in the selection of credible leadership otherwise they would lose their voice, hence the theme “My Vote, My Voice” particularly appealed to him.
“That is the power that you have, and I urge you to exercise that power in 2023 and vote wisely across board from Federal to State level,” he said

Frank Nweke Jr, the Gubernatorial Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has restated his commitment to only appoint the best hands to form the next government of Enugu if elected into office in 2023.

He made this promise on Tuesday, at the opening of the 2022 Law Week of the Enugu branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) themed “The Role of Lawyers in Transitional Democracy”.

Addressing his key thrust to deliver quality leadership and governance in Enugu, the APGA governorship-hopeful said that his goal was to build a team of competent individuals with the capacity and character to deliver on every promise made to the people.

"I will not award contracts from my office as the Governor. I will create the system and structure that allows my team to work with autonomy. This will also include the Local Government Areas. Funds meant for them will not be hijacked.

Enugu2023: I’ll Turn The Waste Dump At Ugwu Onyeama To Green Wealth If Elected – Frank Nweke

Frank Nweke Jr, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance has revealed his plans to relocate the dumpsite at Ugwu Onyeama and turn Enugu’s waste into wealth.

Lamenting the state of the dumpsite and its position at the entrance of the capital city, the governorship candidate highlighted the risks the open dump site posed for citizens in the State in a statement released to the Press on Monday, December 5, 2022.

“The waste dump at Ugwu Onyeama is an open sore. It’s the shame of Enugu, that the first thing that confronts citizens and visitors into our beautiful state capital is this open waste dump, under perpetual incineration with smoke polluting the air, constituting a health hazard to all.

“It directly contaminates a river which flows through the location and the water is consumed downstream. This dump is a potent testimony to the visionless-ness and ineptitude of the current PDP administration in the state and underscores the importance of quality leadership in public governance.”

Going further, he enumerated twelve key steps he would take to address the problem of sanitation in the State if elected as the governor in the 2023 elections.

1. Immediately stopping the open incineration of waste at this site and reclaim and remedy the already contaminated land.
2. Resuscitate - ESWAMA by appointing competent management for the agency.
3. Resuscitate the public waste collection system through the deployment of the appropriate modern equipment
4. Establish a modern waste management and transfer system and a sorting site - properly engineered to avoid pollution and soil contamination. Waste will not be dumped on our roads or their sides.
5. Work with the private sector to establish waste to gas and power plants and a recycling plants for waste that cannot be converted to power such as plastics.
6. Embark on a massive public values orientation program to mobilize citizens to partner with government to clean our state through a 3R campaign - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
7. Establish an incentive reward system to encourage communities and neighborhoods to compete to clean our communities.
8. Emplace a deliberate policy to protect our environment and green our communities.
9. Mainstream the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in our schools and communities, and a holistic Environmental Sustainability and Sanitation program into our education curriculum.
10. Over the next four years, invest in a comprehensive WASH policy & programs to ensure that all 17 Local Government Areas in Enugu State are ODF certified (Open Defecation Free).
11. Work with stakeholders and the State House of Assembly to enact and implement legislation on climate action, single use plastic, and overall environmental sustainability.
12. Invest in a strategic and sustainable Tree planting campaign of economic trees to address deforestation and improve Enugu's economy and environment. And make Enugu one of the top ten Green and Clean places in Africa.

PoliticsEnugu 2023: PDP Your Time’s Up, Enough Is Enough by akelicious(op): 1:33pm On Dec 05, 2022
_Goebbelisation - The evil art of mass-producing lies to kill the truth._

As the reality of the impending rejection by the people of Enugu at the 2023 polls begins to dawn on the Enugu PDP, the propaganda machinery of the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Peter Mbah has gone into overdrive with a Goebbel plan - an intensive propaganda campaign mimicking the infamous Nazi propagandist, Josef Goebbels who famously said _“If you repeat a lie often enough, people will believe it, and you will even come to believe it yourself”_

Consumers of news have noticed the massive upsurge in almost a second by second claims of phantom endorsements of Peter Mbah by shadow groups and the strenuous efforts to create new narratives ‘on the go’.

A good example is what happened in Isi-Uzo recently where Peter Mbah was booed and pelted with ‘pure’ water and stones, yet his Goebbel crew managed to spin the story into an endorsement.

The last seven and half years of the Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi-led PDP administration in Enugu state is a categorical disaster and albatross to the party and their candidates, especially Peter Mbah who is still struggling to push his own tainted mandate past his throat.

In the past 7years, Enugu has become a shadow of itself - the modern sanitation and transportation system put in place by former Governor Sullivan Chime which brought an influx of tourists and leisure seekers into Enugu has become extinct. Enugu is today one of the dirtiest states in the country.

Under the PDP, Enugu has become the 3rd poorest state in the country in terms of GDP and 60% (2.6 million out of the state’s population of approx 5 million) of the citizens are poor according to BudgIT and NBS, respectively.

Enugu owes 69 billion Naira domestically and another $124 million, making us the 20th most indebted state in Nigeria. A gubernatorial candidate of an opposition party alleges that the PDP administration has finalised plans to illegally take additional loans of 30 billion Naira before the end of their administration.

Roads, transportation, environment have all suffered neglect, making both human and vehicular traffic, extremely difficult and expensive. We have IDP camps springing up in different parts of the State due to attacks on entire communities and food insecurity has equally reached an all-time high. Yet, we have a sitting Governor whose abiding interest is anything else he can grab from the State’s coffers before he leaves.

PDP’s Ugwuanyi is a serial land grabber. Under no other administration has the land use act been abused with such reckless abandon and mismanaged for personal benefit. The administration is known to instigate conflicts in communities and amongst families in order to acquire lands in dispute. About 5000 petitions and court cases are currently pending with various security agencies and before courts within and outside the state.

The time is up for Enugu PDP. The political class and the citizens are determined to remind Ugwuanyi and his co-travellers in the PDP that power belongs to the people and that it is not the place of one man who confessed to receiving payment for the PDP guber ticket to pick and impose one man on the entire state.

While Peter Mbah and his Goebbel crew learned Josef’s primary propaganda lesson, repeating lies to burnish their image and confuse people, they failed to take in the most important lesson of all, _“There will come a day when all the lies will collapse under their own weight, and the truth will again triumph.”_

The time has come. The people of Enugu have woken up and the truth of the devastation and impoverishment of the past seven and half years under the PDP administration will be severely punished in 2023.

PoliticsGovt Neglected Us - Nkanu East Table Their Needs To Frank Nweke Jr by akelicious(op): 7:54pm On Dec 03, 2022
Indigenes from various communities in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State on Tuesday trooped out in their numbers to table their needs, discuss solutions and to pledge unalloyed support for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Frank Nweke Jr and candidates for other positions from the party.

In a resumption of ward-to-ward campaign suspended before to honor victims of deadly herdsmen attack in Isi-Uzo communities, Nweke visited the communities of Amagunze, Nkerefi and Nume-Unateze in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. The people trooped out from these communities in response to the call by the trail-blazing APGA candidates to state their needs so as to share with them his plans to solving them.

However, it was all stories of woes as the hapless indigenes recount depravations they have suffered in the hands of the PDP-led government in the state for years. They are particularly angered about the deception of the government who made promises but never kept them. They complained about lack of clean water supply, lack of electricity, very bad sections of their roads, lack of teachers for the schools as well as very poor learning environment.

The case of Nkerefi is very pathetic. The community has been without electric power supply for the past 24 years, a situation Nweke said he never thought would still exists today. The community has no water supply hence they rely on a body of stagnant water for their daily needs.

The very bad roads, dry, dusty, bumpy and abandoned, especially the case in Nume-Unateze, are indicative of the high-level depravity of the people currently in government. That our people are still living under such excruciating condition where there is no access to clean water, no power supply, no teachers for the schools and so on, after the over two decades of PDP-led government means the party has failed woefully, hence it should be booted out.

Fortunately, there seems to be an appreciable level of consciousness amongst the people that either they reject the corrupt system or the corrupt system will destroy them. The people are now ready to identify genuine candidates who have proven record of accomplishments, someone whose words are his bond, someone who offers transparency and accountability in governance. It is such a candidate personified in Nweke that the women, like Mrs. Eziamaka Aniobi, have vowed to give their votes.

As one navigates the impossible roads under the scorching sun across a community that has no clean water, no electricity, no teachers in their schools, no jobs, no conducive learning environment in this 21st century, it comes to mind that the stake is very high. It has gone beyond politics; it is now a struggle to save the people from evil men who play politics with the destiny of the entire communities. It is a fight that all men of goodwill must fight else evil would triumph over good.

This is why Frank Nweke Jr is the man to support and vote for this coming election. With patience, he explained his plans to address the concerns raised by the citizens and vowed to ensure that all their basic necessities for life are met.

He remained pragmatic in his promises, yet ambitious in his determination to provide the needed infrastructure for each community.

APGA Deputy Gov. Candidate Dr. Edith Ugwuanyi Assures Women of Adequate Representation, Protection of Collective Interest in Frank Nweke Jr’s Government Come 2023

The Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Enugu State, Dr. Edith Ugwuanyi on Tuesday assured Enugu State women of adequate representation and protection of their collective interests when Frank Nweke Jr becomes Governor in 2023.
Dr. Ugwuanyi, an accomplished professional nurse and a reputable business executive, gave the assurance while addressing women who trooped out in their large numbers from the various communities of Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state to welcome the APGA team who had come to listen to their needs and discuss plans to meet them.
The Deputy Governorship candidate used the occasion to urge the women to join hands with her to commend the governorship candidate of APGA, Nweke Jr, for choosing a woman of character and caliber, a woman who is highly informed like herself, to be his running mate knowing that she would deliver for the women and children of the state in particular.
The state party Chairman, Ndubuisi Enechionyia, had earlier observed that it was only Nweke that dimmed it fit to choose a woman as his running mate for Governor. This indicates that he knows the worth of women and their invaluable role in driving development in the society.
In his earlier address, Nweke had lauded the sterling qualities of Dr. Ugwuanyi who apart from being an accomplished professional is a people-oriented person who would be reminding him of the promises they have made to the people in the unlikely event that he forgets.
The women who took turns to speak stressed the need for a maternity hospital in the area and the need for water and electricity all of which are basic needs that the PDP-led government has failed to provide the people in nearly 24 years. They said they are tired of the ruling party and their lies over the years and are now ready to cast their votes for the party that truly belongs to the people. They expressed pleasure that Nweke selected a woman as his Deputy Governorship candidate praying that God will grant them success in their quest for a better Enugu State.

Nweke and Dr Ugwuanyi were resolute in their response to deliver on the facilities and infrastructure needed to give them a good quality of life.
Apart from Nweke and his running mate, Dr. Ugwuanyi, other APGA candidates and top party members on the campaign train were the House of Representative Candidate for Nkanu East, Dickson Orji, the House of Representative Candidate for Enugu North and South, Nonso Nnamani, the House of Assembly Candidate for Nkanu East Constituency, Hon. Samson Okereke, the APGA State Woman Leader, Hon. Ngozi Ugwu, amongst others.

*Enugu2023: Suspension of APGA Campaign Tours In Response to Rising Insecurity.*

Following the incessant and rising cases of insecurity in the State and most recently, the grotesque attacks on our brothers and sisters at Agu-Amede, Mgbuji, Umujiovu, Abor communities in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State by suspected herdsmen, the All Progressives Grand Alliance has suspended our gubernatorial campaign activities for the next few days.

We strongly condemn these acts of criminality and terrorism and offer our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the communities and the entire State.

The incessant attacks on our citizens and in particular, farming communities have gone beyond worrisome and resolute actions must be taken by the PDP-led administration to arrest the situation, have the perpetrators punished and ensure that these communities are properly restored to a sense of normalcy.

The safety of every resident of Enugu must be the priority and in these trying times, we call on everyone to maintain a spirit of compassion and unity.

PoliticsNDDC: Ogbuku’s Appointment As NDDC MD Heralds A New Dawn by akelicious(op): 12:12pm On Nov 24, 2022
For far too long, the Niger Delta region has suffered deprivation and degradation without commensurate redeeming attention. This has resulted in a slow pace of growth in the region, notwithstanding the government's genuine effort at provoking economic prosperity for the people.

Over time, the people have agitated for more government attention, with better funding to address development deficits and gaps that have grown over the years. Most importantly, they have also called for men and women with requisite knowledge, experience, capacity, commitment, exposure, integrity and right vision to tackle the seemingly intractable challenges.

The Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, the interventionist agency established to oversee regional development, has been criticised repeatedly by the people for not meeting the expectations and needs of the people, of an organisation administered by such people of proven competence and commitment, towards improving the living conditions of the people. And the urgency has grown over the years, to ensure that NDDC realises its mandate of a sustainable regional development that offers lasting solutions to the socio-economic difficulties of the Niger Delta.

Consequently, the quest for credible persons to mount the saddle of leadership of the twenty-two-year old agency has predicated on attempts to correct persistent wrongs, redress injustices and inequities, as well as facilitate the region's rapid and sustainable development into one that is economically prosperous, socially stable, ecologically regenerative and politically peaceful, in line with NDDC's core mandate.

President Muhammadu Buhari has shown, over the years, a commendable attention towards the development of the Niger Delta region, as well as a deep concern for the people, by working to strengthen the Commission, to be better equipped to discharge its mandate to the people. While the recent forensic audit has unmasked years of mismanagement of resources and opportunities, the recent appointment of a new board for the NDDC signposts government’s commitment rebuildingthe fortunes of the NDDC and the region.

And the new board, announced on Wednesday, November 23, appears peopled by men in whom the Niger Delta can begin to entrust their support, belief and trust, to meet their needs and satisfy longstanding yearnings. It heralds a new dawn.

Indeed, the appointment of Mrs Laureta Onochie (Delta State) as Chairman of the governing board, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku (Bayelsa State) as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, as well as the Executive Directors of Finance and Projects, state and regional representatives, is a direct response to the obligation of fast-tracking the development of the region and improving the living condition of the people.

Of special mention must be the appointment of Dr. Ogbuku as the Commission's chief administrative officer. As its managing director and chief executive officer, his would be the daunting task of ensuring that NDDC is steered towards the path of credible intervention in the affairs of the region. A man of proven integrity, administrative competence, commitment to the Niger Delta, with great man management skills, his is a well-deserved appointment. It reflects the deep commitment of the APC-led government toward restoring the much-needed confidence and faith necessary for rebuilding the Niger Delta region.

There is no doubt that the appointment of Dr. Ogbuku will bring a fresh breath of effective, efficient and professional tenure in the management of the Commission. He comes fully equipped to make a difference. With over twenty years of experience and expertise in crisis management and capacity building, Dr. Ogbuku has consistently carved a niche for himself. In most of what he has achieved, and in all responsibilities bestowed on him, there have been distinct marks of distinction and achievement.

Armed with a Ph.D in Political & Administrative Studies and a Master's in Development Studies, it is certain that he will utilize his vast intellectual resources to strengthen the Commission and execute its mandate in ways that will be remarkably different. A product of the Niger Delta struggle, a student union activist and one-time Public Relations Officer of Ijaw Youths Council (IYC), Central Zone, Dr. Ogbuku has always shown deep concern about the plight of the Niger Delta region. Hence, the Ogbia-born strategist and administrator is well-armed to undertake his new assignment with deep knowledge in conflict resolution, youth leadership development, as well as personnel management in both the private and public sectors of the Nigerian economy.

As a humanist, the Political Science and Administrative Studies graduate of the University of Port Harcourt has continually demonstrated the zeal to positively affect the life of his people, evidenced when he served as Chief of Staff under the Chief Timipre Sylva administration in Bayelsa State between 2007 and 2012.

A passionately focused and self-motivated entrepreneur, he takes investment in agriculture very seriously. Already, there is growing hope that his tenure will bring important divestments towards improving agriculture and aquaculture in the region, in ways that will positively impact the traditional livelihoods of the people. As the United Nations has prescribed, the sure proof of sustainable development lies in the sustainable livelihoods of the people. There is also hope that he will impact positively on the environment. There is indeed a lot to hope for, for the Commission and for the region.

Ogbuku, who is a traditional ruler in Ayakoro town in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, was once a Personal Assistant to the Special Assistant to the Minister of Petroleum, from 2005 and 2007, a task that further broadened the sphere of his experience. The brand new NDDC MD was until his recent appointment, a Senior Special Assistant on Niger Delta Affairs to the Deputy President of the Senate, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege.

Born in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Dr. Ogbuku had his early education at Government Secondary School, Borokiri, and Christ the King Primary School, Oromineke, D-Line, all in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He is happily married with children.
