Embattled President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Chris Isiguzo who is enmeshed in certificate scandal may be compounding his problems as some of his documents in Court may have been falsified. The trial of Isiguzo which was to come up at the Industrial Court Abuja February 12, could not hold as the judges were said to have gone for a retreat. However, Counsel to Waheed Odusile who is challenging Isiguzo's educational qualifications filed an amendment seeking to bring in the South East Vice President, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Lion Chibota Edozie as a witness in the matter. The NWAOJ Vice President had worked as a reporter in a defunct Newspaper where Isiguzo/Isinguzoro is claiming to have also worked. Isiguzo's appointment letter, which he filed in court, dated January 15, 1999, was allegedly signed by Chris Odilli, Director Corporate Affairs. But in his reply to Barr. Obinna D. Okeke's inquiry about the authenticity of the appointment letter, Mr Odilli dismissed the letter as fake. Hear him; "The letter head is fake because it's not the official letter head of Winner Newspapers and Trend Magazine. "Winner Communication LTD was the publisher of The Winner newspaper and Trend Magazine. "Winner Communication LTD, the Winner Newspaper and Trend Magazine ceased to exist before 15/1/1999, the date of the purported offer of appointment. "I did not sign or make any appointment letter for Isinguzoro Ikechukwu Christopher or any other person at all...." Former NUJ president Waheed Odusile is in court to be declared winner of the last NUJ election following the controversy surrounding Isiguzo's educational qualifications. Odusile is alleging that Isiguzo Chris who contested the election has no certificate. In his statement of defense Isiguzo swore an affidavit claiming that all the names Isiguzo Ikechukwu Christopher, Isinguzo Ikechukwu Christopher, Isinguzoro Ikechukwu Christopher. He however, decided to drop the name he answered in China, Isiguzoro Ikechukwu Christopher. Meanwhile, two of his certificates are up for examination. 1) ND (Oko) with name Isinguzo Ikechukwu C. (31/12/98) 2) HND (Oko) with the name Isinguzoro Ikechukwu C. with which he was working in Thisday until his sack, and temporary recall. The peace in the ancient town of Ubulu Ihejiofor, Oru West Local government area of Imo State has been threatened by the death of one of their sons, Ifechukwu Odenigbo in far away South Africa. 1.Lagos cannot provide jobs for all Nigerians. That's absolutely impossible. 2. Okada is never a normal means of transportation in any civilized city of the world 3. Okada was banned in Abuja and other places in the country, heaven did not fall. 4. The menace of okada in Lagos is the most reckless, most heartless and the most irresponsible adventures I have ever seen in my life. 5. Countless number of people had been sent to their early graves by the bizarre conducts of okada riders while many have become crippled or maimed by the same set of people. 6. Okada provides convenient cover for criminals to troop into Lagos on daily basis occupying all available spaces without any fixed addresses or by any means traceable yet most of them are out on all manners of missions that are quite inimical to the peace and safety of the people. They have become serious environmental nuisances deficating and urinating anywhere available. 7. A section of okada riders are so deadly that if they hit you or you hit them you're in trouble. They gang-attack at will, beating motorists to a stupor and sometimes killing them for mere traffic misunderstanding in which they are mostly guilty. Many a times, they set vehicles ablaze. Parents have been beaten in the presence of their children while women have been stripped naked in broad day light by okada gangsters. Must this happen to you before you appreciate the governor? 8. That the one that claimed to have invested N5 billion on an unconventional business like okada couldn't have meant well for the state. If there is human flesh business that thrives, he will invest in it as long as it yields money. 9. The argument concerning the plight of those who are already engaged in okada riding is not misplaced. I also sympathize with them. However, all hopes are not lost. The ban is not total. It applies only to less than 30% land area of the state. Meanwhile, we still have 35 other states in the country where anybody can also try his luck including Abuja, our collective national heritage. 10. Talking about trekking and provision of alternatives, trekking does a lot of good to our fitness and wellbeing. For over 30 years that we're growing up in times passed, there was no okada at all and yet we survived 11. In view of the foregoing, no responsible government will open it's eyes and allow this kind of obnoxious anomalies to continue unabated. In conclusion therefore, the greatest disservice Babajide Sanwoolu can do to Lagos is to unban okada. That's the last thing he should consider now no matter the pressure or even consideration for future political aspirations. What will be will be! If we fail now, future generations will inherent a highly cannibalized state in total disarray and will be left with no choice than to send curses to past leaders. https://www.akelicious.net/lagos-state-why-okada-must-go/

Chukwudi described INEC action as affront on the judiciary, an abuse of the Court Process and a conscious disregard for the rule of law. He said that IPAC viewed with serious concerns, the decision by INEC deregistering 74 political parties without observing due process and provisions of the law. “The IPAC is aware of an action instituted at the Federal High Court by 33 political Parties, who are members of the Council in Suit Number /444/2019 filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja seeking amongst other things, an Order restraining INEC from deregistering concerned political Parties pending the determination of the Suit. “The Federal High Court, upon hearing the motion for an interlocutory Injunction on the Jan. 23, 2020, adjourned for ruling on Feb. 17, 2020. “It is however reprehensible on the part of INEC to take such decision, which is an affront on the judiciary, an abuse of the Court Process and a conscious disregard for the Rule of law. “By the action purportedly taken by INEC today, the Council is of a firm view that INEC as an institution no longer has regards or respect for the rule of law in Nigeria and has lost the confidence of political parties in the political affairs of the nation. “The Council hereby calls on INEC to immediately reverse the purported decision in order not to infringe on the rights of political parties as guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As amended) By the Provisions of Sections 221 – 229, no provision is inferior or superior to the other.” Chukwudi said that Section 229 defines a political party to include an association whose activities shall include canvassing for votes in support of a candidate for election into a Local Government Council. He said that INEC as a responsible institution ought to have waited until elections were held in all 774 LGAs and 8,809 Electoral Wards in Nigeria, after the signing of the 4th Alteration to the Constitution on June 4, 2018, before assuming that a party had not won any elective position. “It is however imperative to state that we must, as individuals or agencies of government, be careful not to foist a fait accomplish on the Court. “It is important to re-emphasise the fact that 33 political parties, who are members of the Council, moved a motion in Court 3, at the Federal High Court in Abuja for an Order of interlocutory injunction restraining INEC from deregistering the concerned political Parties, pending the determination of the Suit. “The court adjourned for Ruling on Feb. 17, 2020 but the INEC proceeded in error to foist a state of helplessness on the court. “This is an affront on the judiciary and must be discouraged. The Council calls on INEC to listen to the voice of reason and immediately reverse itself on this action.” INEC had deregistered 74 out of Nigeria’s 92 political parties for their lackluster performance in the 2019 general elections. https://www.akelicious.net/parties-de-registration-ipac-calls-on-inec-to-immediately-reverse-decision/

Nanono disclosed that the dairy plants would be established at Ringim and Gujungu towns in Ringim and Taura local government councils, respectively. Also, Again, DPR seals 29 illegal gas plants in Osun. He said that the decision to establish the plants in the selected communities was in consideration of the high population of herdsmen and cattle breeders in the areas. Nanono added that a similar dairy in Dawakin-Kudu, Kano was supplying milk products to companies in Kaduna. Sebastin Uremadu is a professor of Banking and Finance, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia State. In this Interview with UDOKA AGWU, he advised those clamouring for Biafra and restructuring to rather work towards the realisation of the Igbo presidency in 2023. He also spoke on other topical issues in the country. Excerpts: What is your take on Ayo Adebanjo’s view about Nigeria’s unity and Igbo presidency? God will continue to bless Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the Afenifere leader, for being truthful and honest and for his unreserved love for unity of Nigeria. It is the Yorubas of his likes, that sincerely want the unity of Nigeria and not those who would continue to sow the seed of discord, engendering marginalisation of the Igbos and they think they are dealing hard with the Igbos not knowing that they are undoing themselves as well as weakening the strength of Nigeria by their continued working for the downfall of the Igbo ethnic group in Nigeria. Time has come for the turn of the Igbos in Nigeria to take their quota in the rotational presidency and we need good men like Pa Ayo Adebanjo, those from the North, South, East, West, Middlebelt, to join him in this noble campaign to make an Igbo president of Nigeria. God bless Chief Ayo Adebanjo and his likes in Nigeria who continuously say the truth and who seek a just cause for the nation. May they live long. READ IPOB demands evidence of arrest of soldier who killed Okada rider What is your response to those who say that zoning is dead? For NRC candidate in annulled Nigeria June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Bashir Tofa, to have said that zoning is dead in the country, saying the idea will never promote unity among Nigerians portrayed him as an unrepentant spoiler. It was his candidacy that led to the annulment of June, 1993 election, believed to have been won by his opponent, Chief M.K.O. Abiola. Having enjoyed an unstopped democratic season since we embarked on rotational presidency is in 1999, for him to claim it does not lead to unity of Nigeria is most unfair to God and this country. May God help him to repent. What is your take on those clamouring for President Muhammadu Buhari’s third term agenda? Those making such sponsored request are not only wicked but they are irresponsible and are seeking ways to destabilise the country and or derail President Muhammadu Buhari’s well nurtured administration for their selfish reasons. Do they mean that among over 200 million Nigerians, that President Buhari could not through a democratic means discover and assist to enthrone another Nigerian from the zone it is their rightful turn to produce next president of Nigeria, come 2023? I do not think any right-thinking Nigerian would seek otherwise and by so doing, offend God who saved him from a threatening illness in 2017 when Nigerians of diverse tongues, tribes and religion prayed and God answered and healed him, a miracle President Buhari himself and members of his family can never deny. READ Ebonyi State govt denies floating militia to attack IPOB Those asking him to do otherwise, definitely do not like him but for their greed and selfish motives, because they do not mean well for him nor the country; but would want to myopically benefit in their little way they have been profiting, under his presidency. It shall never augur well for such persons, Amen! They should allow President Buhari to serve his second term in office, ending in 2023. What is your view on the stand of Clark, Yakassai, Williams and Balarabe on Igbo Presidency? I must commend the Elder statesmen, Tanko Yakassai and Edwin Clark for their wise intervention towards the 2023 Igbo presidential election project and their declaration that the South East geopolitical zone should be allowed to produce the president of the country, in 2023. All the major political blocs in the country have produced the President, except the South East, and justice and equity demand that the Igbos be allowed to produce the president after which power rotation could continue. I describe Tanko Yakassai, Edwin Clark, Gen. Ishola Williams and Balarabe Musa as men of wisdom and truth. Igbos deserve the presidency of the country after President Buhari. Will you attribute APC’s loss of Imo 2019 gubernatorial election to Rochas Okorocha? APC would have won in Imo State governorship election, if not for the misbehaviour of Rochas Okorocha. And I must say that the APC national body contributed to that, because if they had wanted the APC to win the governorship seat of Imo State, they would have called Rochas Okorocha to order. It was intentional, a gang up engineered by Ahmed Tinubu and Yemi Osinbajo and they misled President Muhammadu Buhari and Oshiomhole was put at the forefront in pushing that. APC wanted to get Osun State, they went in and got it. They wanted to get Ekiti State, they went in and got it. Presently, they want to get Kogi State, they have moved heaven and earth and suppressed others and they are still projecting Yahaya Bello. Why did the APC and President Muhammadu Buhari move in to stop Rochas Okorocha from presenting his son in-law? They never wanted us, so let us not pretend, because they were scheming. READ FlashBack: Tell Buhari He Is Mad Nnamdi Kanu Speak In Boldness Do you suspect any scheming against the 2023 Igbo presidency? Yes there is; but let me tell you the truth, every scheming against the Igbo Presidency in 2023 will fail. What is your take on Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the N-power Social Fund Distribution? The scheme is a failure and lopsided. The Vice President concentrated on the South-West and parts of the North, with South benefiting little. What is your advice to Igbos on the 2023 Presidency project? I must caution our people, the Igbos against confusing the quest for presidency with calls for State of Biafra and restructuring. Igbos need presidency of the country, not Biafra or restructuring. Restructuring is a thing of the mind. It is true that Igbos have been marginalised but that does not warrant misguided demands. I will advise the Igbos to return to political alliance with the North, as was done by the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe. The South East should play mainstream politics. https://www.akelicious.net/igbos-should-forget-biafra-now/

The fiscal operations of the Federal Government in the fourth quarter of 2019, showed an estimated deficit of N1.14 trillion, compared with the proportionate quarterly budget deficit of N479.62 billion. The government had estimated an expenditure profile of N2.59 trillion for the fourth quarter of 2019, but expended N2.07 trillion, representing a 20.1 percent shortfall and 14.1 percent compared with the level in the preceding quarter. But the provisional data from Q4 Economic Report by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) revealed that while the Federal Government N2.07 trillion in the period under review, its earnings amounted to N938.72 billion. The development, which resulted to N1.14 trillion deficit financing, was below both the quarterly budget estimate, as well as the receipt in the preceding quarter by 55.6 percent and 46.0 percent, respectively. Of the N938.72 billion, Federation Account accounted for 83.8 per, cent, while Federal Government Independent Revenue, Value Added Tax (VAT), Exchange Gain and Non-oil Excess, accounted for 8.7 percent, 4.4 percent, 2.7 percent, and 0.4 percent, respectively. Still, a further breakdown of the total expenditure showed that the recurrent component accounted for 73 percent, while capital and statutory transfers accounted for 21.3 percent and 5.7 percent, repectively. An analysis the recurrent expenditure components showed that the non-debt component like salaries and others, accounted for 74.1 per cent, while debt service payments was 25.9 percent. The Federal Government and the sub-nationals (states) got tangled with the deficits when the federally-collected revenue in Q4 of 2019 settled at N2.6 trillion, which was lower than the quarterly budget of N3.76 trillion by 30.8 percent. It also fell by 10.6 percent when compared with the receipt in the preceding quarter. The decline in federally-collected revenue (gross) relative to the quarterly budget, was attributed to shortfalls in both oil and non-oil revenues.Gross oil revenue, at N1.56 trillion or 60.1 percent of the total receipts, was below the quarterly budget by 35.3 percent, but above the receipt in the preceding quarter by 16.7 percent. The decline in oil revenue relative to the quarterly budget was due to shortfalls in all its components, except domestic crude oil and gas sales.Non-oil revenue (gross) at N1.04 trillion fell below the quarterly budget of N1.34 trillion by 22.6 percent, as well as below the level in the preceding quarter by 33.9 percent. The drop in non-oil revenue relative to the quarterly budget was due to the decline in receipt from all its components, except customs and excise duties. After the statutory deductions and transfers of N517.67 billion and N450.46 billion, respectively, a net sum of N1.63 trillion was retained in the Federation Account for distribution during the quarter. Of this amount, the Federal Government received N786.35 billion; state and local governments received N398.85 billion and N307.49 billion, respectively, while the balance of N141.47 billion was transferred to the 13 percent Derivation Fund for distribution among the oil-producing states. Additionally, the Federal Government received N41.46 billion, while the state and local governments received N138.22 billion and N96.75 billion, respectively, from the VAT Pool Account. Also, the sum of N8.7 billion was drawn-down from the Non-oil Excess Account and distributed among the Federal Government, N3.99 billion; state governments, N2.02 billion; local governments, N1.56 billion; and 13 percent Derivation Fund, N1.13 billion. Similarly, N55.85 billion was shared as Exchange Gain, with the Federal Government getting N25.62 billion; state governments, N12.99 billion; local governments, N10.02 billion; and 13 percent Derivation Fund, N7.22 billion. Thus, the total statutory and VAT revenue allocation to the three tiers of government in the fourth quarter of 2019, amounted to N1.98 trillion, against the quarterly budget of N3.27 trillion. At N701.90 billion, the total allocation to state governments from the Federation Account, including the 13 percent Derivation Fund and VAT Pool Account, was lower than the quarterly budget by 40.4 percent. A breakdown of the revenue flows to the states showed that receipts from the Federation Account was N563.69 billion (80.3 percent), while the share from VAT stood at N138.22 billion (19.7 percent). President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the repeated attacks by bandits on communities in Niger State and its environs, directing the Nigerian Air Force to deploy its fighter aircraft in checking the menace. The president gave the directive in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Sunday. President Buhari described the repeated attacks which led to loss of several lives in the affected communities “as a disaster for the nation”. Also, Niger gov. condemns renewed bandits attacks on communities. He, therefore, authorized the deployment of air power to support troops and policemen deployed to the “difficult terrain,” to counter the menace of the attackers operating in the forest area bordering Kaduna, Niger and Zamfara States. In line with this directive, according to the presidential aide, the Nigerian Air Force is setting up refueling facilities at Minna, Niger State, to support the air operations. Shehu revealed that relevant military authorities had assured the president that given the improved weather conditions, a major exercise to “visually acquire targets” and launch attacks would soon follow. He said: ”President Buhari has received assurances that with the harmattan dust gradually easing its hold on the skies, fighter aircraft would this week join the efforts to provide effective air attacks against bandits, kidnappers and cattle rustlers that have been attacking remote communities around Dogon Gona forest in Niger State.” He added that the Police Command in Niger had equally given assurances that ”the planned dedicated air raids to complement the police helicopter gunship operations remain the best approach given the lack of motorized roads in the areas constantly under attack”. President Buhari commiserated with the government and people of Niger State over the attacks and loss of lives, and assured that affected communities would not be abandoned by the rest of the country. Mr Dokun Olatunde, the Executive Director of Self Reliance Economic Advancement Programme (SEAP), has urged the Federal Government to adopt a flexible policy to promote Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) in the country. Olatunde Stated this on Sunday in Ibadan at the New Year thanksgiving service and 20th anniversary of the organisation. He noted that for the future of SMEs to be bright, government needed to address the critical challenges facing the sector. Also, FRSC commander warns officers against corrupt practices. “Many businesses are not yielding profit because of multiple taxation and levies. “There is a need to provide funding support for entrepreneurs, especially start -ups. “To access loans, you need 150 per cent collateral and it has to be backed up by Certificate of Occupancy and not many SMEs can afford that,” he said. The SEAP boss also called for a downward review of electricity tariff, especially for entrepreneurs. “The cost of energy is too high, hence the huge cost of production and this is killing businesses gradually if left unchecked. “You have to be on diesel for production and when you look at the economy, this is not adding value as people are struggling to survive,” he said. He Stated that the organisation was ready to support many youths to thrive through its various programmes geared toward self reliance. “We want to see how we can build more youths to be self reliant and support them and that is why I said if the church is ready to promote youths who are graduates, it should guarantee them. “Let the church stand as guarantor for them so that they can have access to funds and achieve their vision,” he said. He said SEAP was focusing on digital microfinance to ensure members of the organisation do not fall prey to fraudsters. In his sermon at the event, Rev. Kehinde Edwards of Molete Baptist Church Ibadan, counselled the government on the need to be more purposeful and focused in fulfilling its promises to Nigerians. “We want to be seeing the dividends of democracy delivered to the masses; infrastructure should be built, health facilities should be provided and upgraded to modern technology and insecurity challenges should be addressed headlong. “The government needs to rejig its strategies so that Nigeria can be peaceful, prosperous and the people can be happy,” he said. https://www.akelicious.net/adopt-flexible-policy-to-promote-smes-seap-boss-tells-fg/

The Progressive Governors Forum, says community policing initiated by some state governments will complement the efforts of the Federal Government in tackling insecurity in the country. The Governor of Plateau, Mr Simon Lalong, said this on Friday while briefing newsmen at the end of the first quarterly meeting of the forum’s Governance Programme Steering Committee Meeting in Abuja. Lalong said the forum believes in community policing that operates within the ambit of the law. READ PCC treats 2,639 out of 3,071 complaints in Nasarawa state Lalong, who is the co-chair of the committee, said the committee was preparing a framework to enhance good governance and address insecurity in the All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled States. “Here, we are not talking about Amotekun, we are talking about general insecurity, and once we lay the foundation for the APC states and it is approved, then we will begin to talk about implementation. “What we are laying down now in the framework is general on insecurity, because we are not unmindful of the situation in the country. “That is, for every year, we make a framework and tell them these are things that are current and these are things that APC governors should adopt in terms of preparing their budget and also in governance in their states. “In general term, what we did after presentations from security agencies is, all of us appear to be talking about community policing. That one we are all agreed on. “So, we don’t want a situation where you start doing something and the federal government will say you are doing it outside the law just like what they said about Amotekun.” He said that the committee’s mandate was to design policies for implementation for good governance in APC states. READ 10 former govs who may suffer Kalu’s fate “As we pointed out during the inaugural meeting of this Steering Committee, from 2019-2023, we will want the work of the PGF Governance Programme Steering Committee to focus more on strengthening the capacity of our states to have increased commitment to implement approved initiatives.” Lalong condemned the killing of students and religious leaders by the Boko Haram, urging Nigerians to be united in fighting insurgency. Also, Co-Chairman of the committee and Governor of Jigawa, Abubakar Badaru, said that the progressives governors believed that each state knew what would work for it in protecting lives and property, depending on its peculiarity. “On Operation Amotekun, I believe the Federal Government and the South West region can find some solutions. They are engaging in dialogue and I believe they will resolve it. “I believe security situation is peculiar to each state, it depends on each state what they think will work for them. Some will want Amotekun, some dialogue, some may not need any.” READ My Take On Yahaya Bello And The Forthcoming Election In Kogi State Badaru said that the APC adminstration was working had to tackle insecurity and corruption in the country. “Above all the government is looking at social security to see how we can address insecurity and unemployment.” https://www.akelicious.net/community-policing-will-address-insecurity-says-apc-governors/

The Lagos State government, without a formal ban, has shut out motorcyclists and tricyclists from many of the state roads and bridges, with immediate effect. The order, which Channels TV said was sent to it on Monday, listed the routes where motorcycles and tricycles movement were restricted and in many cases outrightly banned. Government had published a similar list under the Babatunde Fashola administration. But it failed because of poor enforcement. Government sternly warned motorcycle and tricycle operators to refrain from operating on the forbidden roads and routes.
